      3:53 Besides annoying it's a bit weird you can't uninstall Edge. Back in the Windows XP days Microsoft lost a court case for shipping Windows with Internet Explorer baked in. Developers of other internet browsers accused Microsoft of illegally maintaining its monopoly position. That's why you got a selection screen with a handful of internet browsers during the XP install after they lost in court.
      Assuming that specific law hasn't changed, I'm surprised Microsoft is not just doing the same thing as in 2001 but actively preventing you to uninstall Edge and making it as annoying as possible if people do decide to use another browser.

    Thankyou! This solved a huge problem for me after I'd tried so many other things: the problem was my screen fading out after just a minute, despite all Power Plan settings set to NEVER. The solution? See from 9:33 to 9:52: Change additional power settings, Turn off hard disk after (change to zero). Edit - if that still doesn't solve your fading screen issue, change the monitor display settings by turning off automatic screen brightness adjustment. Apologies if this doesn't belong here, I'm just so happy my problem is finally fixed!!!

    🏆🖥🙏 I thought actor Michael Caine was doing the audio. 😉 That's a compliment. Moving on, thanks for taking time to make a clear, concise, easy-to-understand tutorial for Windows 11 settings change recommendations. Big tech does too much harvesting of personal data and intrusion into privacy, so everyone would be wise to toggle off quite a few of the default settings. I use an Apple iMac 95% of the time, but occasionally use Windows to sync with my Android phone for music and such. Your teaching method is commendable and I really appreciated that you had no annoying rap/heavy metal/house “music” blasting away in the background- a sign of a true amateur TH-cam creator. On a different note setting your monitor to never shut off is crazy. A really great way to spend more, while shortening your monitors lifespan.
      If you have an LED or OLED you'll see burn in 10x faster, and LEDs dim the more run hours they accumulate.
      I'd rec set it to 1 hour or less.
      If you really want it on all the time, even at an hour you'll never be looking at it when it flips to power save. Functionally identical, while saving power and your monitors life.

    Excellent video, I learned a lot, and thank you for taking the time to produce this tutorial. I am so new to Win 11, yet it seems similar to Win 7. I recently had my laptop crash, hence the new one with Win 11. I was using an old Win 7 PC, that's why I'm comparing it to "7"

    • @charleshines1553
      @charleshines1553 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Windows 7 didn't have menus that make you do extra work to find the most basic things. My only gripe about Windows 7 was I had a scanner that worked with XP or earlier and there are no new drivers for it at all (the manufacturer is out of business). Even for other ones that had compatible drivers (because they were basically the same device) I could not find anything compatible for Windows 7 or newer. It still runs if I plug it into an XP machine. Lack of drivers for still functioning hardware is part of the reason we have e-waste problems.

    • @i_am_macgyver84
      @i_am_macgyver84 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@charleshines1553 While I agree with you about the e-waste. I never actually owned a pc running windows 7. (95/xp/vista/8/8.1/10/ now 11) I have been on PC's running window's 7 so I don't think this started until around Windows 8. It's like they decided to overhaul the settings menu's, then got lazy and stopped halfway through. And it has been this way ever since. Want to change video and audio settings. You have to navigate to both the new and old settings locations to set all of your settings. It's such a joke.

    Howdy. Great.
    I like win11 with a few exceptions.
    1. Win11 starts apps faster but has a recource management issue. Running several apps the last one started gets little resources and the computer looks like locked. With win10 one could see all apps advancing though the computer got sluggish.
    2. I don't like the stone-carving type icons in file manager and Paint. The 10 icons were more stylish.
    3. Upgrading to 11 my Epson V30 scanner icon was gone. Re-installing returned the icon. The icon starts the Epson GUI but the GUI:'s links to the driver are broken. Nothing happens clicking the GUI buttons. However. The icon in Control panel / devices worked. I uninstalled Epson V30 and the Control panel icon stopped working. The device manager showed the driver had gone missing. So I inserted the installation disk and ran update driver from the DVD drive. It worked. And as a final operation I created a copy of the Control panel icon onto the desktop. Now it works the way I want. Evidently 11 is jealous and won't give anything else access to the driver. Blöörrgghh.
    Regards.

    I wonder how many of these are things that in the country where i live, the setup screens will force the user to select if they want it on or off (unlike the US setup screens where it is a load of toggles, in the country where i live, the setup screens have one setting per screen, and two large boxes, and the user has to click one of the two large boxes to select if they want that setting on or off before it allows them to go onto the next one)

    I don't know ANYONE who WOULD want ads shown, so why did Microsoft structure their settings like they have? I get that in the past, people were frustrated over the display of ads without a choice, but they way Microsoft words these options is just hilarious. I have to wonder if Microsoft actually polls the public to see how many people really LIKE having ads because I have yet to find anyone, in the past 25 years I've been using the internet, that does. As for Microsoft's "brute force" tactics to force people into Edge, yeah it's annoying but honestly, Edge has better performance than Chrome. I do find it interesting though that Brian doesn't bring up better alternatives to Edge and Chrome, such as Firefox, Brave or even Vivaldi, all of which run much lighter on system resources and have much better privacy options. Better yet, they run Chromium, like Chrome and Edge, but have a lot stripped out to satisfy the people who don't want intrusions.

    I run a Ryzen 9 on a Gigabyte X570 with an RTX2070s and I recently upgraded to Windows 11, after which I've been unable to play games. Warzone doesn't play at all, Modern Warfare 2019 plays one or two games then freezes. I've run all the updates, I've updated the drivers through the GeForce XP, I even installed the AMD update that is supposed to solve for gaming related issues... all to no avail. I'm at the end of my rope really. I've been down to the RegEdit level editing 'exefile'.
    As the games start in MW2019 I'm faced with a black screen that cannot be recovered from. I'd need to force a shutdown to proceed. Everything worked perfectly under Windows 10. I think I've tried everything. 😢

    Yes I agree Microsoft should let people decide for themselves and they shouldn't force it on people regarding Microsoft edge

    What I would like are permanent ways to get and keep the classic start menu of Windows 10 or earlier and a way to force show all in all menus so I don't have to spend the day looking for settings and things I knew where to find in Windows 10. Microsloth does listen sometimes. Windows 8 was an example when they changed the start menu back to something that is more like what we would expect in Windows. I hope Windows 12 is their fix for all the bad design choices. I don't care for menus that say show more options when there was always more than enough room for them on the screen. Until I either learn to live with Windows 11's terrible UI or Microsloth hears their customers and listens to them, I plan to block Windows 11 updates in every way possible. They should have at least some sort of option to allow classic UIs where you can select the one that was in your favorite version of Windows. I am just glad that a laptop I recently bought supports both 10 and 11. It came with 11 on it really and I didn't care for it. I made a Windows 10 install media and wiped all the partitions out and installed 10. Before doing this make sure you don't need a storage driver because if you do you will need to get it and add it to the install media. You can make any folder you want for the driver as long as you can find it if Windows setup asks for it. I like to keep the driver's files all in their own folder just to prevent any weird unforseen problems. If you have other computers that need different storage drivers you can make a folder for those also. Name the folder anything you like so you can tell which one is which. Also keep in mind you don't really need that if Windows setup sees your drives, it is for when it doesn't see them and can not continue. You can also use them if for some reason you don't like the one that the setup program is using (maybe it is buggy or slow or just outdated).

    10:11....if the pc has a gpu (nvidia, amd) high performance mode actually makes it so that windows allocate performance parameters to that card (the integrated gpu in the processor is turned off)

    Nice Video Brian. I noticed you have Escape from Tarkov on your PC and I have been trying to get a fix for this game, I recently upgraded my PC which already had Windows 11 Pro downloaded onto it and I think it is causing big problems with playing Tarkov. I am constantly being disconnected from PMC, Scav Raids numerous times each raid and I'm at my wits end trying to find a fix.I've only had this PC 2 weeks 3090, i9 12th Gen which I won in a gaming raffle and haven't been able to play Tarkov properly on this PC my old 2060 super ran Tarkov fine. If you have any fixes it would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

    I don't like the Extra Copy Steps = "Show More Options!" Can I change that to to straight Copy and Paste like before in Win 10? This extra step is annoying to me.. Thanks Michael.

      A lot of websites. In particular banking or hospital websites will not open on anything other than internet explorer. So edge would be the best option as it now has internet explorer mode

    What happened to the Print Screen button? Now you have to press 3 buttons and then go to snippet and save. Too many things to do especially during a webinar when you are trying to save a slide presentation. Can someone help?
