Clipboard history is very useful, but use it with caution. With clipboard history on, when you copy (and paste) something and then copy something else, the first thing you copied is not gone. If you are in the habit of copying and pasting a password, be aware of when clipboard history will hang on to it. This is particularly important for Windows computers in public places, like in a hotel lobby.
I didn't use it from the start, because I didn't want another thing to remember to check on periodically. Then it was hacked and I was vindicated. While whatever the issue is that made it possible is fixed now, some things just shouldn't be a turned on feature for most people IMHO.
I just recommended AlomWare Toolbox in another post here, and its clipboard history has an option to NOT remember specific copied text. So if your password was "p@55w0rd", then you can set it to not remember any clips with "55" in them, and therefore your copied password of "p@55w0rd" won't be stored. It's so good!
Windows users in the European Union do not have access to core CoPilot features yet. Microsoft hasn't yet been able to comply with current EU regulations on data protection and AI.
The snipping tool copy text and the recording was amazing. Also the CTRL Copy history , mind blowing!! Definitely will use in my daily work, thank you Kevin!!!
Something I've found useful is the default Photo app has some decent editing tools - and even opens some RAW formats. It's not as powerful as Lightroom or a dedicated RAW editor, but more than sufficient for the average person.
One *MUST* activate windows clipboard history before it begins to work. Simply press at any time, and answer to enable history when prompted. Otherwise, one will copy several things, press the key combo, and rather than having a list of the items copied, be presented with the aforementioned confirmation box. Then will have to go re-copy the data. *NOTE* recent 24H2 updates may have set the clipboard history to on by default. However, anything prior to 24H2 had to confirm turning this feature on.
@ key and search for clipboard, and go into Clipboard Settings Click the slider to OFF next to Clipboard history Which conversely is another way to turn this feature on; rather than and acknowledging the confirmation box. _____________ For my work, this is one of the greatest functions Windows has added. I keep a few things pinned: - a complex Excel function that does time calculations I add to reports I export - a salutary closing I add to correspondence that is not through e-mail which mimics my Outlook signature - a list of active directory groups I add to Citrix applications for allowed permissions Because I do a lot of screen captures with SnagIt, in which I add text, highlights, etc… and may need multiple to show someone data that cannot otherwise be shared, I can copy several at one time and put them in an e-mail or Teams chat. For example, I set up a new network printer yesterday for a department head, at a remote location. I was able to show them the printer added, what settings were turned on, who had permission, etc… things that have no way of being exported and still remain readable by someone outside of IT. When done one more time, and click clear all. Everything I don’t have pinned is gone.
Been using Snip. It's great that it doesn't pick up room noise when your earbuds are plugged in, but seems you have to be slow and careful moving the mouse to stop the recording or it cancels out the recording altogether. I have to do a lot of manual work changing from hand to mouse. Also, you can't edit in Clip Champ. The picture is fine but no audio transfers at all.
As usual, very focused and handy.😃 You might have covered this in another video but the OneDrive settings has "Save Screenshots to OneDrive". This can be handy for image text search. On a separate subject for command line users, after launching a cmd.exe, there is a little arrow a the top of the prompt that lets you run PowerShell or Azure Cloud Shell from the same prompt. It just becomes another tab at the top.
Wow! All of those are amazing, amazing, absolutely amazing! I love using the lightweight apps to build content, because of their speed and so I don't get hung up on features. But now all those lightweight apps are becoming so smart. I marvel at how Notebook and Paint have grown up. Notebook as a content creator? Amazing!
I don't like the snipping tool for recording video. The few times that I've tried it the video always comes out jittery or laggy...I found that the Xbox game bar (comes preinstalled in windows 11) works a lot better for recording video. (Can also take screenshots) ...You can get quick access by pressing the windows key plus G together....the only downside is it doesn't let you record a portion of the screen so you'll have to resize it with an editor.
The add text function in the Edge annotation is great, but does have problems with some special characters in my language (Czech). After confirming the text in the text box, these characters disappear resulting in wrong words, and sometimes even entire disappearance of such word. I hope they will fix this problem soon!
@@alexandereklof1555 I am not talking about extracting text, but about the annotations on PDF (I use these in my online classes of the Czech language, and the words I type while using the annotating function in the Edge as annotations do not end up saved correctly - certain characters are not properly supported)... for example I write řeřicha, and after I close the text box, it turns into eicha or nothing
I really want to use Edge as my default browser but there is something I can't figure out. I like to use desktop shortcuts to websites that I use a lot. I have no problem creating the shortcut in Chrome or Brave or Vivaldi, etc. But when I create the short with Edge as the default browser they do not work. I've googled it and I see other people have the same issue but I've never found a fix or even a work around. Can you suggest anything? Thanks.
Im using clipboard feature almost when i buy my pc about 2.5 year. But last 3 month ive faced a major issue clipboard is doesn't working. Its always show me empty clipboard. So tried to solve this many ways but it didn't worked. So, i decided to reinstall windows. I did and its fixed. But after 6-7 days later same major issue occurred again. Clipboard is empty. Now how can i fix this issue?
Having all these features in Windows 11 is great but Microsoft really needs to fix the bugs first and there's quite a lot of them, just bought a new laptop which came with Windows 11, I would have gone back to Win10 but that is coming to end of life this year. Never had any issues with win10
3 apps only on startup: antivirus (active), audio driver (active), terminal (inactive). PC still takes what feels like a lifetime to boot. As for the rest of the list, most have much better free alternatives out there.
Tried the Snippet and sent it to Paint to add some text, but unfortunately Paint doesn't allow you to reselect the text box and move it over the underlying image to a new location. If you use the Select tool it basically snips the area you select and you are moving the added text along with the underlying image section which results in a blank/white spot where it was originally located.
Thank you very much Kavin. The information you have provided is very helpful. The bonus information at the end has solved an old problem with my computer, and speed has increased considerably. Thanks Again...!
Kevin great as always - thank you - I have been using the snip tool for years - Windows 10 - can't seem to get this new version with the OCR function - I deleted the snip tool & got it again from MS store - still the old version! Any help / suggestions? Is it possibly a WIN 11 app?
Great video...however, paint in my Win11 pro does not have "cocreator or image generator" options. My window is updates to the latest version. How to fix this?
Cocreator is not currently in the MS features, are you using a beta version? As far as ci can tell that feature is only available on the copilot laptops.
I don't use Notepad or Paint. I have Windows 10 and I use the basic snipping tool. I have it pinned to the taskbar. I use clipboard history daily in my genealogy research. I can also access several clips from the snipping tool. I also use Drawboard PDF, the free version. I only use it to cross data that was entered in my program. I have over 30 PDF documents opening in the same session and I save the changes when I'm done for the day. Then I often use Powertoys' Always On Top feature when I want a window to stay put, like the Calculator app.

Wow dude, so clipboard history keeps a history of stuff? Gosh, such genius, much insight.

Love your sense of humor
Great tips! I learned a lot. Two more things about Snipping Tool'l text OCR: It can read handwriting. It can read some foreign languages.
Can't wait to try this! Thank you so much!
Windows users in the European Union do not have access to core CoPilot features yet. Microsoft hasn't yet been able to comply with current EU regulations on data protection and AI.
CoPilot sucks. . You aren't missing much at all. . AI should not even be an option

As always.... Very valuable content presented nicely and professionally 😊
Kevin didn't mention that notepad now has tab view, likewise for WIndows Explorer.
In Windows 11?
@ Yes, in Windows 11 notepad now has tabbed view, which is a first.

PC Manager is a must for Windows 11
I like that snipping tool It works great for stuff I do at work. 😀
Man, I'm so happy to have clicked on this video!!! You're the best, Kevin!! Thank you.
Thank you
Great info on usability items!
Pretty nice as always.
You have a very pleasant voice 👍
Forever helpful. Thanks, Kevin. The added OCR functionality is most welcome.

Clipboard history FTW!

Better than i expected so thumbs up from me!.
How do I get the newer version of the Snipping Tool? My Windows 10 22H2 version only shows: NEW, MODE, DELAY and OPTIONS.
great content as Always Kevin. I've a Question. What is the best WAY or SOFTWARE to do a full page/whole page screenshot?
Hello Kevin, thank you for sharing and maybe can we have some videos for mac users?
Awesome!
It would be helpful if you listed what version of Windows a particular video is about.

Press Win + F to open the feedback hub and submit all the bugs you find to Microsoft. They’re good at fixing any issues you report 👍
So they should fix all bugs before innovating? There are no bugs for me that are important enough to stop improving windows with better features.
3 apps only on startup: antivirus (active), audio driver (active), terminal (inactive). PC still takes what feels like a lifetime to boot. As for the rest of the list, most have much better free alternatives out there.
Where the text is saved in notepad? The internal storage or Microsoft cloud storage?
I checked mine. It goes to OneDrive, which is Cloud Storage.
a useful addition to windows is the "power tools" download, perhaps you could do an item on that
Did you mean 'power toys'? If so, he's already covered them.
@davidadams421
Yes - autocorrect took over
Thanks

An earlier comment said it's not yet available in the EU. Where are you located?
Looks like it is not yet available in many countries.
Gonna guess snipping tool, paste history (very cool, works with images too).
Lets watch.

I don't have the ai rewrite feature in my notepad. How can I get it?
Same here. I'm on the latest version, and in the Notepad settings the "AI Features >Rewrite" toggle isn't even there to me to turn on/off.
How would you compare the new snipping tool to Greenshot?
Thank you; I was previously unaware of the snippet text recognition feature.
Setting the print screen button to open the snipping tool will disable the functionality to take screenshots of full screen apps into the clipboard.
That’s right, good call out. Depends on what you prefer.
I'm on Windows 11 Pro for Workstations 24H2, but my Notepad doesn't have 'Rewrite', any thoughts?

Mid-Atlantic
Maryland, specifically.
