After 2 years, I finally caved and "upgraded" to Windows 11. W11 has been a horrible windows build for 2 years, practically a beta, many features that were missing have only slowly been added. (like start menu folders added only a YEAR later, the many bugs/flaws, etc.. )
Even now not all features that Windows 10 had is added. (like taskbar placement, full screen start menu, etc..) I test alpha builds on my old laptop and final builds on my other. It's been a mess for 2 years. My main desktop PC has been on Windows 10 for a long time without issues. Seeing what the next major update will bring, I decided the main desktop to update to 11.
What do I change? I immediately remove all bloatware, change all privacy settings to off, disable recommendations on start menu, choose more pins, put all programs neatly organized in folders and put it on the right. Make sure search index is for the entire PC. Turned off all unnecessary notifications and turned on do not disturb. Install Wintoys and Firefox. Turn most permissions to off. Turn off the widget. Dark mode (obviously) and a transparant taskbar third party app. And finally create a restore point to get back to before MS fucks something up with another update lol.

OMG I just finished going through all my settings from both windows and my ASUS 1:37 you were not kidding “ more than the previous operating systems is an absolute understatement x10
I kind of miss the old bloat ware from the early 2000’s it was for sure a Hindenburg. Today’s terminology should have a term that really reflects the sneaky nature of settings, configurations and policies… I miss the day when internet was just for chatting and downloading music while searching for video codecs that didn’t give you a virus

I don't have Edge as a default, but MS keeps persistently over and over again asking me if I want to make it so. Is there a "NO and STOP asking me" setting?

    • @SpaceCadet4Jesus

Open your favorite Edge browser ;-)
In the address bar type edge:(double forward slash)flags and hit Enter (TH-cam doesn't like SlashSlashflags)
Press Ctrl-F to bring up the find feature
In the small Find box, start typing "Search for Show feature and workflow recommendations"
In the Search for Show feature.......option, select Disabled from the drop-down menu
If it asks you one final time, simply hit the X or Not Now..
      Restart Edge
Interestingly, I copied your exact question and pasted it to both Bing Chat (based on version 4 of ChatGPT) and OpenAI ChatGPT (version 3). I received two different answers, none of which I gave you. Try it.

Very useful information as usual! With Windows 11, if I have a program open (say Chrome) and do not interact with it for a while, at some point the icon disappears from the taskbar. I can make it reappear by changing the taskbar to autohide and back, but this is cumbersome. Do you know if there's a settings that can be done so as to prevent icons of running programs from disappearing from the taskbar?

Last year, we succesfully set up a Windows 11 laptop with an offline account..............until we wanted to download other browsers & drivers for our laser printers. Then it forced us to create a MS account.
Tomorrow, we want to set up another Windows 11 laptop & need to know how to avoid the MS demand, when we want to download Vivaldi, or Brave, or our printer drivers. HELP?

I noted that in 11, i am not able create new folders in File Explorer. Is there a way to enable to create new folders? I can create a new folder in Office 365.

I do not like Windows 11, it just looks like it's full of bloat, ads, spyware, etc. Once again, Microsoft are letting us down :(

    Smartphonosis in your notebook.
Currently your laptop doesn't serve for you as a device for developer tasks, but only as a big and unergonomic smartphone for searching internet and watching video streams.
    Disgusting.
