There will never be a better performance of this piece because the two brothers play as ONE MIND. They bounce off each other. Totally precious and rare
God when will we be able to sit with 2000 people together and enjoy beautiful music is this beautiful hall not being afraid to get infected with a stuped virus that makes our lives so miserable. Some day we can. It will be one of the best in my life.
Fortunately Poulenc is getting much more exposure now and not before time. Endless performances of Beethoven/Brahms/Schumann/Tchaikovsky piano concertos becomes tedious and there are many fine works out there which are much in need of being heard more often.
I noticed that the opening sounded a lot like the Romance from Mozart’s 20th Piano Concerto but I learned it was intentional by Poulenc to show appreciation for master Mozart.
Poulenc’s inventiveness and harmonies are one of the reasons why I generally prefer French to German music. No coincidence that Berlioz is my favourite composer :-)
It’s supposed to be extremely light and airy, as if it were a whisper of something to come. It’s not this large sweeping Germanic score. It’s a petite, Parisian chamber piece
loveley, used to listen to this piece at night alone, walking around parks, roads and ocean cliffs. Really can feel the music.

I think you are not totaly right. Listen to Argerich perf...
Poulenc like Mozart always makes me smile (like the morning sun). Rivals Ravel in ecstatic supernal beauty
This was an apt comment I felt.
And congratulations to Stéfane Denève for a superb ensemble.
I love that final B flat major chord with the added dissonant 7th. Just more of that Poulenc cheeky wit combined with his unending beauty
Yeah! Bbmaj7 like a boss 8-)
These two are just Music Magic!
Uiterst mooi spel van twee lieve broers! Met mijn beste wensen voor u beiden voor uw verdere loopbaan maar tevens voor uw beider leven!
You can tell the guys love this work.
Looking at the orchestra and the big audience, shredding a tear. When will this ever be possible again?
Never ever.
@@WINCHANDLE Um....now? Please, don't be ridiculous.
Mozart? Poulenc? Gershwin? Wherever we meandered here, you made each style authentically recognisable. Great journey both of you. Thanks, Merri

I agree 100%
Agreed, and few pianists-even the technically brilliant young one-s can play the Brahms works well.
0:25-0:35 is pure loveliness.
Yes.
My favourite part for sure
Magnifique !

This concerto needs a million movements
Say what you want about the French, but can't deny that they do bring the world some of the finest arts.
Merci beaucoup !

Of course Poulenc embraces the transcendent innocence of Mozart, a contemporary and welcome update
Magnífica interpretación.
Poulenc wrote a piece for organ and percussion. My favorite.

Exactly. Just imagine.

Where's the intensity and beautiful singing tone at 1:11 to 1:40? Why are the strings so limp and lame? Ugh.
