I conducted this piece in 1988 in northern California. It was one of my big desires in life to put on a performance of this concerto. Back then my daughter Emily, though only 7, attended the concert with her other sisters. She passed away on Nov. 8, 1996 at age 11. Today it's Nov. 8, 2022. When I hear Poulenc's organ concerto I recall better times, though there is deep sadness. Rest in peace Emily.
There is a comment urging people to become acquainted with Poulenc's music. He is amazingly neglected, but always compelling. You will always be moved by his work; either spiritually, emotionally, by turns amusing, elegant, and mysterious. This splendid performance allows us to understand the essence of Poulenc, France his era.
I have listened to this performance over 300 hundred times now. How is it still so freaking great?! I guess there will never be a pop song I could listen too so many times without being annoyed. Poulenc was a genius!
I also listen to it almost daily now. The first 6 minutes are intoxicating, but so is the rest of this criminally underrated piece. If it wasn't for YT and this channel, I'd probably never knew it existed.
I urge those who don't know much of Poulenc to explore his music. I have a special soft thing for French music and I guess I know well all Poulenc's work. He has no enormous, majestic stuff like Mahler or Shostakovitch but all his compositions are like precious little gems that you will learn to cherish. Try the piano concerto, or the two pianos concerto to start. If you get caught there are several more to enjoy. I'm a humble scientist with an enorm frustation that is not beeing able to play an instrument or conduct an orchestra (my dream!). When I see a musician playing his instrument to perfection I rest in awe! But what can I say when I see a lady playing a tirannosaurus of an instrument with three keyboards for the hands and another, enormous, for the feet and, by some sort of miracle, conjures enough muscular control to play all those keys without fail and create fantastic music! God save her.Perhaps next life I will be able to do somethnig like that....

What a delightful piece! very well played by Madame Apkalna, along with exceptionally fine orchestra, soloists, esp Cello & Violin, and fine conducting! Thank you to all! (from Canada)
A revisit. Powerful, and presented on the single instrument than can blow the whole orchestra off the map. Fortunately, the great composers working with the instrument and their interpreters would not exploit the power of the instrument in such an arrogant way. That in part is what gives this work power, it doesn't exploit it, it uses it.

Eccezionale Esecuzione !!!!!!! Grazie.
You are very good and Poulenc is really brilliant. My choir sang "Les Tisserands" in quarantine style. Write this down in the research. You will love it for sure:
Corale Novarmonia - Les Tisserands (F. Poulenc)
Wow! Comparisons are subjective I know but I've heard this by various orchestras and organists, including at the Proms, and this is really far and away the best to my ears - so interesting to see it up close too. Thank You!
Ausgezeichnet!!!!
What a delightful piece! very well played by Madame Apkalna, along with exceptionally fine orchestra, soloists, esp Cello & Violin, and fine conducting! Thank you to all! (from Canada)
Fantastic, Poulenc is a genius
Bello, molto bello il brano...organo ed orchestra così insieme!
A revisit. Powerful, and presented on the single instrument than can blow the whole orchestra off the map. Fortunately, the great composers working with the instrument and their interpreters would not exploit the power of the instrument in such an arrogant way. That in part is what gives this work power, it doesn't exploit it, it uses it.
Very well put, Doug. The balance is excellent.
schönes Konzert..und mit solchen Absätzen die Orgel-Pedale zu bedienen, auch ne Leistung.....
-- Magnifique, envoûtant. --
Gracieus! Fantastische uitvoering.
Beautifully done... all of you!
No acostumbrado a esta música no convencional si no ya posiblemente de vanguardia esta obra de polen me ha parecido muy interesante por diversas razones la interacción órgano cuerda percusión etcétera me parece fantástica saludos
Magnificent. A riveting performance by the whole ensemble.
