Haha, man he was busy that day. Teaching your son, recording his Audible book, and playing a round with Simon. He's kinda like the Most Interesting Man in Disc Golf.
Scott Stokely is the man!! 17 or 18 years ago I had the privilege of playing random doubles with him as my partner in St Cloud, Minnesota... Needless to say we won league that night, and the only shot we used of mine was a throw-in from 100 feet!!
Lol I know the feeling. Threw one of my best shots on a local course and he asks if we can birdie it. I say maybe you. Scott “ok, I’m going to try something.” Proceeds to throw a sky anny through a 2 ft gap in a bunch of trees to put it next to the basket. 😂
Catching high quality footage of stokely's forehand is like getting high quality footage of a giant squid. You know its out there, you have heard stories about it, you have even seen a couple short grainy videos of it... but catching it once or twice in high quality footage is priceless, you want to just sit there and rewatch it over and over again.
I had a clinic with Scott a few weeks ago. Im a junior playing in Virginia. He was such a nice a guy and gave great ways to improve my form. He also played in a tourney at my home course and I watched him. He had some great shots for playing blind. If he’s ever in your area, go to one of his clinics.
When Simon said who it was, I remembered watching a 2002 or some year like that world championship and Scott was the guy ripping forehands when not many other people did
I was lucky enough to be around a ton of legends when I first started playing in '89 in California. Scott rode shotgun in my van on a road trip from Sac to the Wham-O factory in SoCal where we picked up a full set of disc golf baskets to use on temporary courses in the NorCal Series. (I don't think we gave them back for close to 10 years) Just for giggles, he set the field-goal distance record while we were down there. I had a photo of Scott, all damn near 7 feet of him, sleeping in a Lazy-Boy recliner in my sunroom. He was literally hanging off both ends of that thing. What an amazing disc golfer and a genuinely nice guy. Watching him and "little" Stevie Rico throw 400 feet plus over the lake at Aquatic Park in Berkeley......into a 20mph headwind......was absolutely jaw-dropping. This was the early 90's. A "fast" disc was a 6 speed. lol Thanks for coming back to the sport, Scott. You were missed.
His initial resolve when he returned to the sport was to become the MPO world champ. That will be incredibly tough these days, but he's seemed to have found an incredibly successful role in being a great coach.
Scott is a Smart man! Seminar's and teaching will make more guaranteed $$ Than playing tourneys plus you get to be where you want to be when you want to be. :) He's reaping the rewards of all his hard work over the years! :)
Simon I need you to tour again I extremely miss seeing you on the cards especially since Casey is killing it I love watching you guys play on your vlog! Your my fav keep being awesome!
Best episode ever! Mr. Stokely is one of the legends. You should have more of these legends on your channel. We'd love to hear about everything these guys and gals went through.
I was in that seminar before he played, Scott is such a great person, super knowledgeable, and as humble as he appears on camera. Would love to see him again
@@AppeaseEmAll honestly it help out a lot. Before this I was able to throw 350 max RHBH and then after some form correction and tweaking threw almost 400 with 85% power. As far as forehand he was able to show the proper form (there is a pattern here) on how to be consistent and not throw forehand like a frisbee. Yes there was an immediate difference once we were done but if I keep practicing what he taught me I will be able to throw RHBH and RHFH over 400.
Played 2nd fiddle behind Scott ,for many years in distance competitions,it was unreal watching his 4 step -- 360 turnaround bombs,,he was throwing whippets 650+ like it was nobody's business
Thanks again for taking the time to talk and throw with us on hole one for a bit! People always say don’t meet your heroes but y’all were the freaking coolest! Good luck with the rest of your recovery and I’ll be pulling for you when you get back on tour!
Glad to see Scott getting some love. Dude was right up there battling it out with Climo back in the day. Went to a couple of his clinics a few years ago and got some great info. Soo much knowledge about the game and just a great all around guy!
Simon: "What is the one thing you would say why someone should sign up with you for a day of teaching?" Scott: "They're gonna be better afterwards." Badass MF quote of the year
I started playing DG seriously in Denver/Fort Collins in the 90s, and Stokely was this mythical figure that threw the disc twice as far as anyone else. Easily my favourite player of that era. To see him playing with Simon (favourite player of THIS era) was simply a joy to behold. If EITHER of you come to Perth to play Aussie golf, I'd love to host you.
I love Ft Collins. I was there for the '93 Am Worlds. What a great bunch of guys to be around. The competition was fun, but the overall atmosphere was the best part.
Scott came down to Huntsville to teach and he is amazing. For those that don’t know, Alabama is deep rooted in Disc Golf. Scott is a class act. Simon...you and the whole new OG (Eagle, Paul, Paige, Brodie, James, CoCo, and the JOMEZPRO crew are growing the sport!
Read Scotts book recently. As a new player, I really learned a lot. Also, it was very honest and frank, and full of humility, unlike most autobiography's. Good read.
I live in Spokane Washington and I've played Caliper before... and let me say IT IS EVERYTHING SCOTT MAKES IT OUT TO BE! I have to agree it is at least my favorite course I've ever played too!
My dad kept a keen eye on Stokely throughout the mid 2000's and passed everything he learned from Stokely down to me. It's safe to say we both greatly improved in our technique and all around theory of disc golf. Stokely taught me how to drive 600 feet and I can't say anymore than thankyou for everything you've contributed to the disc golf community. Cheers to another Decade
Great video, so awesome that you played with Scott. Hes is a great dude, got to meet him last year at Farragut for Up the Gut. Simon you need to get up to north Idaho and play Farragut and get up to Caliber, it will blow your mind. it is a must play and the views and area is amazing.
Saw this video and checked out his website. Scott's running a clinic tomorrow afternoon at the course that's 2 miles from my house! Thanks Scott and Simon!
So awesome to see Scott in this video. I stumbled across a blue haired version of himself on a TH-cam video a few years back and he felt like that hidden, very wise mentor that movie heroes seek out for guidance. Very glad to see now that his reputation as a disc golf coach lives up to that!
My best bud had a private lesson from Scott in 2019 when I was only about 3 months into playing and didn't know how BadAss an opportunity my buddy had. I'm hoping he comes to the Houston area again soon so I can be sure to sign up for one of his clinics now that I know what an absolute legend he is. Thanks Simon for this video and so glad that you're feeling good enough to play some. Wishing you the very best! 👊
Thanks for introducing me to Scott's book! I instantly jumped on Amazon and bought it. Hopefully it shaves a few strokes off my game, knowing what he knows!!! Great video, as always! He was so methodical and had an eye for the lines! Just like you dude!
I have two VHS tapes that Scott put out back when I was learning the game. Still have them, still watch them, still have a VCR player which I keep so I can watch those two vids. I have also watched nearly every "instructional" DG bit of content on You Tube and still do, but Scott's two original tapes are the ones I learned the most from. Nothing new out there has surpassed them in my view. Thank you Scott Stokely, and thank you Simon for showcasing him here!
Scott Stokely still does things with his forehand that no other top pros do. He is still amazing. Glad to see that is is sharing and spreading his knowledge.
You inspired me over a year ago to start my own channel.... and as I watch my channel grow (not as fast as yours) I just wanted to say thank you for inspiring me Simon.
You will not be disappointed! I just did the Fort Worth, TX clinic with him a few days ago. Time and money incredibly well spent, wherever you may be in your game.
