I am predominantly a forehand/sidearm player and I feel what you are giving out. Your videos got me able to throw backhand after 2 years of forehand only throws. I hope some backhand dominant players can experience your information and get to throwing that disc forehand exacting where they are looking. Love the content. Best of Health, Luck & Adventures to you sir!

I'm a 55/45 backhand/sidearm player and I often choose "more difficult" sidearms for gap hitting and touch as well. Something about the simplicity of the sidearm and less "turn-away" during the reach back makes it easier (at least for me) to get the most accuracy.

I loved your realistic assessment of yourself about throwing a sidearm on a backhand hole, because you know your own strengths and weaknesses. Having that kind of mentality going into a tournament has saved me multiple strokes. Forgetting that, even on just 2-3 holes, and the punishment that happens is one of the most consistent phenomena of the known universe. BTW, what has helped me to avoid "serving the pizza" on my forehand is to change my grip: I used to use a standard two-finger forehand grip (two "straight" fingers), but now use a staggered two-finger forehand grip (like Paul McB's forehand grip). It honestly helps me to rotate my wrist more like throwing a ball, and it allows my to drop the outside edge of the disc down more when I want more of a hyzer (forehand) release.

I had a pretty good sidearm naturally for the first few years I played and last year I tweaked my back and for a month couldn’t throw sidearms and when my back healed I felt like I lost everything. Been changing things and trying to relearn what I had and these videos help a ton. Thanks Scott!

I was dominant with the sidearm for my early years but developed pain in my elbow area. So I went to the doctor but Covid interrupted the process. I didn’t throw much and after a couple years i came back and learned backhand but, backhand is so much more difficult. Anyways I randomly bought a massage gun and started working it around my elbow and a miracle healing happened. Now I got my sidearm back at 400 ft and a backhand to match it. But throwing sidearm took zero training compared to the hours of practice for backhand.

Much love Scott. Was super cool to meet you with my wife in Vegas this year. I've learned a lot from your videos over the years as a rhfh player predominantly. I feel like the "ball throw" on different angles concept is one of the more helpful tips to get me out of that angle funk and smooth those wooded turnovers. Best of luck the back 9 of the season.

I'm an ex-college baseball player with an above average arm. When I started playing disc golf I tomahawked everything. I could throw my tomahawk/thumber further than most average players I play with when they throw a backhand. I always said "If I can figure out the side arm I could throw this a mile." Well, I can throw it 150ft. That's it... One time, ONE time, I threw a good shot and the disc went passed the basket by 100ft. I'm going to keep at it but thank you for making all of these valuable videos because one day it's finally going to click for me and all the thanks will go to you!

The plastic isn’t like the other pro plastics. It is dense but grippy. I can’t throw it quite as far as some of my other, lighter, 9 speed discs, but it’s very stable and I use it to control distance.

I was a backhand only player. Watched an old video from Stokely on how to throw sidearm. I started practicing with upshot’s from about 50’ to 100’ out. I started getting my aim down really well. Then I started adding more distance. I’m only throwing 280 to 320’ (depending on the wind). But the sidearm is more accurate for me in the woods and approaches.

I already got my money’s worth from your online classes in the first month but I’m SO excited for the Forehands section bc I had a situation on the course yesterday where I drove into the right side of a huge bush and the only way I could’ve realistically saved par was with a serviceable sidearm approach shot from 100’. I managed to will my way to 35’ from the pin but on a pyramid like green, my missed C2 par save rolled away to 45’, then airballed my bogey save to circle’s edge, then missed my double bogey save by inches and tapped in for my first triple bogey in months. I was at -6 through 13, on pace for a personal best and a win in my division if I just parred 14-18, and the only thing that kept me from doing that…was a sidearm shot that could reliably get me 10’-20’ closer in a pinch.

I have such a hard time explaining to people how I throw sidearms further than backhands but this video is really how to. I always release side arms on hyzer even my stable discs I just throw them harder. I can throw a standstill understable fairway about 330-350 with just this hyzer flip technique.

Hey Scott! A big thank you for all the videos on sidearm! As it is definietly the weakest part of my game I am thrilled tp try and putt these tips into practice.
I have realised from watching you that I definietly throw way to much of a frisbee throw, have a pretty clean release it just ends up to nose up and always on hyzer.
So my hyzerflips with super understandable disc are actually not that bad just doesn't get the distance needed.
Also don't know if you've done this but would love to see you give your take and analyse some of the great sidearm throwers of today. What they do that works so well and maybe what doesn't. Were thinking of people like Eagle, Kooling, Hammes, Barsby, Lätt, Hookom and maybe yourself.
All the best and happy to hear that you are comming to Europe in 2023, hopefully!

Due to injuries and such, I only throw sidearm. I have a basket measured 165ft away and I have been practicing hyzer flips. 2 aces in 2 days with 2 different discs so. I have also found that for me a -2 turn 2 fade works great distance and I use an MVP Wave and a -2 turn 1 fade works great for shorter distances, which I use a Leopard Champion. I was also able to hit my max distance of 390 with the Wave.

Wow that went well over 300ft and low. Beautiful flight.
Wish I could do that. 58yo body does not work like these flexible young guys.
I have no physical disabilities so I'm always dreaming I could throw a consistent forehand, but never seems to happen. Most of the time my forehands just turn to much even overstable discs. Maybe 250ft at best.
    Hope your video helps.
Dang that shot at 10:18 was insane if I had my eyes closed and then opened them after you threw, I would have bet anything it was a back hand. It was straight and then finished left. Crazy throw and so effort less!

Thanks for this video, Scott! All of my friends play predominantly backhand, but sidearm has always come much easier to me. I need to keep working on backhand, but good to know I’m not broken for preferring sidearm, like you!
Question- Are you able to achieve the same distance sidearm as you would backhand? Right now my distance is basically exactly the same, but my accuracy is exponentially better sidearm.

The hyzer flip forehand is hands down my favorite shot in the bag. For 300 I use either a shryke for huge turnover or a destroyer for a more mild turnover. • @danlewis1885
    @danlewis1885 ปีที่แล้ว

RE: Where you said you throw a forehand on an obvious backhand - because the disc is spinning in opposite direction, wouldn't you want a forehand in some situations if you didn't want a lot of skip/ground play? Doesn't the different spin direction causes a different reaction off the ground?

  • @mawage666

I might actually be able to throw a sidearm for distance instead of just shots I want to go right. I'm only throwing about 345' backhand and about 265' sidearm. I'd be happy as heck if I could crack that 300' mark sidearm.
