Liz: "You're the best man I've ever met..." Hellboy: "...Man..." Notice how Hellboy cried when she called him a man, all he ever wanted was to be looked at like everyone else, to be an equal, and looked at as a monster.
I find it slightly ironic that she calls Krauss inhumab for not saving Hellboy when she literally witnessed many members of her team get eaten by fairies before she decided to use her powers to save Abe.
I'm gonna have to disagree, Liz is basically a walking napalm bomb. She doesn't have control over what does and doesn't get burned. Lighting the place up is a last minute resort. She's the final option if the BPRD agents can't handle it one their own, or in this case get eaten. Every time she uses her power, it's super destructive, and unless you find safe cover, you'll be burned alive. She doesn't use her powers until things go south because she's the only one that can contain the scene at that point.
tbh, i like it that way, her having selective memory, over her being simple character, gives her some depth, that she cares only about the things and people she cares, not every random. But also - her powers are not so easily controlled. She probably would kill her fellow agents by accident either way, so its actually nice of her to at least give them a chance to try to save themselves xD

The death of that Elemental is ABSOLUTELY on him, though. He shouldn't have released it in the middle of a crowded city, of course Hellboy had to choose stopping it to avoid collateral damage and deaths of innocents.
I fucking hate him. He doesn't even try talking to mankind, who don't even know his world exists, and he gets pissy about his allies dying when HE SENDS THEM TO DIE. The guy is interesting but the entire time I was watching I got the vibe he just wanted to kill just to kill.

You notice that at 1:38 Johann is looking at the destroyed mask of Kroenen. Del Toro stated, that had a third film happened (I'm still hoping to God it does), that it would have explored how Kroenen and Johann knew each other.
it's fascinating that klauss is just standing there looking at the mask of kroenen. Given the Imperial (possibly Nazi?) eagle on the bag with his rings in it, it's possible they were contemporaries, maybe even that they knew each other.
The eagle is a phoenix. If I recall correctly, it symbolized his desire to bring his wife back, and in one of his attemps he became into the hectoplasmatic creature we all know today.
I love this series of scenes, because of Abraham. He is torn of revealing the crown piece or saving his beloved. I believe (since it was practically shown) that he would of handed over the crown piece to the officials, but Liz willingness to sacrifice humanity (not in certain terms) for Hellboy gave him pause. Then in the hallway with Krauss (was it?), I believe Abraham was a bit unsure still, but the revelation of Krauss' beloved and his grief sort of solidified Abraham's resolve. Then when Hellboy's Death practically told Liz Hellboy will be the downfall of humanity, she was like "yeah, sure whatever"; this must have cemented for Abraham that he must do the same to save the one he loves, no matter the cost. It culminates at the end when Abraham hands over the crown piece, everyone was in shock that he would do that despite them demonstrating just recently that they would have and already have done the same bargain for the one they love and Abraham rightfully called them out on it. "Called them out on it" was directed at Hellboy, but I think the others also got the message.
From the comics he was a psychic who learned to astral project his spirit out of his body. He fell in love with the ghost of a woman who rejected him when she found out and thought it was disgusting he could fall in love with a dead person. In 2002 he was performing a reading when an incident in china caused a psychic shockwave that conducted to him trough a soul seeking help from him and destroyed his body while he was projecting. He sought out the bureau since he cant exist as a ghost for long without a vessel and needed an expert to create one.
