Something else to note: when he’s shot in this scene, he looks down at himself, to make sure he’s uninjured. However he became what he was in 2004, he was much more human back then.

This is one of my favourite opening scenes in any movie it does what a good opening scene should do: intrudece the audience to the tone and feel of the movie, introduce some of the main characters and keep the viewer engaged so that they would want to see the rest of the movie and not just leave or turn it off after the opening. Also the acting and special effects are pretty good, especially for the year this was released.
Kronen was more in his prime in this scene than the majority of the movie, a few modifications here and there but not enough to make him a walking corpse he's also in his late forties here where he's over 100 years old during the movies present day. And his blood is definitely still flowing through his body than sand.
Well that was Rasputin's plan. The Nazis were fooled, Kroenen was his mole in the SS, and the girl was madly in love with him. He failed to get the Russian occult to serve his chaos gods in ww1, he got the Nazis to use their advanced tech to make him a hand of doom and portal, but his plan was foiled at the last second, and the third try the world grew stagnant with peace so he didn't need to trick a nation to do his work for him and there was already a boy from hell walking around with his own hand of doom, he just needed to convince him to open the portal.
Imagine if Stephen king wrote a Cthulu story that occurred during the events of World War II. And someone like Guillermo Del Toro directed the movie based on the book. How amazing would that be?
Guillermo truly loved the source material and added his personal touch and style into his adaptation, the reboot tried way to hard to be like this one and failed at it. It should’ve been its own thing and create its own style and identity while being comics accurate at the same time.

But for this high-risk mission, they decide to give them just one or two clips? Yeah, that sounds highly plausible.
