- Hot Rod Drag Week is back in FULL swing for 2017! Starting at Cordova International Raceway we pulled up to a PACKED raceway overflowing with Die Hard Street Cars piloted by Die Hard Racers! We could not be more excited and ready to dive into the insanity that is Drag Week! Traveling to 4 Tracks across over 1,000 mile, in 5 days time, this GRUELING test of endurance is one of the greatest challenges out there for the Street Car Community! With Day 0 only being Tech/Registration and Test & Tune, there have already been plenty of obstacles for many of the racers. There are many days ahead and we hope to see as many people as possible complete the full journey!

in australia we also have a drag week type of event with a few 7 second car and 8/9 and 10 second cars called street machine drag challange , all leage street cars in aus , so much for no modifications
+damon turner of course, I just didn't want to go into details on how hard it is to make a 7 second car street legal in Aus

I think its GREAT when you put the times on the bottom of the videos because you cant always see the results very good on the finish line signs.
There was a old green Pontiac or Plymouth I would say from the late forties that used to run at Martin US 131 speedway in Martin Michigan in the late 60s and 70s that was there

well it was spot on, soon as you modify it its illegal until an engineer says its okay after handing over your credit card... and even then it might not pass

Tyler Logan no it's not a felony. That's why you only get fined for having way too loud of an exhaust, not arrested. You must be on crack. That's why a while back everyone was making a big fuss about the epa trying to change that.
You weren't entirely wrong though. It makes it all the more special that our fastest street car runs 7.37 and drives to and from the track 100% engineered and legal.

Im really hoping Rick Propero is there in the green 2nd gen Rx7 ...and hoping he does well. He won in 2015 shortly after building the car if I remember correctly. Its my absolute favourite car in all drag week to watch go down the track because it leaves absolutely beautifully straight and softer than baby shit everytime. You'd almost think it has something wrong with it but thats how he does it. It looks like it has the 60' and 330' of an 11 second car. Then ends up running 7s if not quicker by now. One interview he said he's capable of 7.30s. But to me that seems awfully quick.
When he won in 2015 it ran a best of 8.18 @ about 179.7 with the following setup:
460 cubic inch BBC
7.9 : 1 compression
Dual 75mm Turbos
3300lbs
He said it was 1600HP and would run 7.50s and likely capable of 7.30s full out with this motor.
In 2016 I saw that he had the following
Fresh 555 cubic inch BBC
Fresh Pair of 88mm Garrett turbos
So he won drag week in 2015 and in 2016 he actually came 2nd in his class despite nearly having a complete failure due to having camshaft issues. Luckily he caught that early enough and could just replace the cam and most of the valve train. But it was then using a totally foreign cam that theyve NEVER tested on before. And was far far smaller in both duration and lift. Lift was only .590 lol. Which is a lot smaller than my pretty tame sbc camshaft.
Even despite the cam issues...he was able to manage a 7.95 the following day but hes final average was raised to 7.719 ET and 188.82 MPH which wasnt quite enough behind the leader which was at 7.668 ET, 182.052 MPH. A MPH difference of almost 7mph even though he lost...that says a lot.
Im VERY eager to see what he does this year. I really hope he comes.

Frietpan It's not really true, there's a ton of modified cars driving on the road. You only get pulled over if your car is too loud or you're being a complete dumbass.

No, not at all. but a lot of these cars would be illegal. Open exhausts, too low, too loud. Some are straight up drag cars.

Danny Gardner not really. Whereas the gumball is like a street driven super special, drag week treats the whole event more like a true world rally with the distance between tracks covered as a stage and the tracks covered as the tarmac 'specials'
