17th great grand daughter here! Thanks for sharing your work. It would be fun to hold a reunion of all fellow 18th generation descendants and dress as medieval royals, host coronation and give out titles.. its our divine rite, right? Hollyrood 2023? Thanks again
Long live the House of Stewart🏵

Yes like millions of others I suppose (??), these are my 17th great grandparents through the Hamilton line. Thank you for telling this story! I wish they would make the story of John of Gaunt and Kathryn Swynford (also a love story) as well as Joan Beaufort and King James into a movie (or tv series) don'tchya think? Love Olivia's picture and her presence in the video... very cute!

Yes, interesting! For the record, Queen Joan Beaufort’s mother, Lady Margaret de Holand, was the daughter of Lady Alice Fitzalan (descendant of King Henry III). Lady Alice’s brother, Richard Fitzalan, 11th Earl of Arundel, was the father of Lady Elizabeth Fitzalan who was married 4 times. By her 2nd and 3rd husbands, Thomas Mowbray, Duke of Norfolk, and Sir Robert Goushill, she was the mother of Lady Isabel Mowbray (wife of Sir James Berkeley) and Elizabeth Goushill (wife of Sir Robert Wingfield of Letheringham, Suffolk). These two half sisters were ancestors of two colonial immigrants to Virginia of landed gentry descent who were my mother’s ancestors. This is more common in American families of colonial descent than most people realize. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for this information!I am researching my descendants and trying to discover when, where and how my grandparents were connected. My grandfather (last name Dover) was a direct descendant of Christopher Robinson Baron of Rappahannock and my grandmother was a Whitton/Lout lineage. (One of her direct descendants was William the Immigrant and another was a pilot on the Mayflower!) It was quite common for 2nd and 3rd cousins to marry.

Thanks Greg, I know some of this. My mother's linage was in the descendances of the Black Knight of Lorne also of John Stewart 5th Earl of Atholl and Margaret Lindsay's son James whom it appears married his step-mother whom as senior heiress later had James imprisoned in London. It appears James was also married to his half sister Mary. I would like to understand this scenario in all its ugliness or should I say Improprieties.
Also I apologise that the ancestor prior to John Stewart was Walter Stewart one of the conspirators accused of killing James 1st of Scotland. One story being it was because two young Douglass sons were killed by James but who knows for sure. What I would like to find out is why Mary Ruthven or her daughter Mary who married James Stewart 6th Earl of Atholl had him imprisoned because I know he is an ancestor of my maternal family down to 1747 for sure to his son William Stewart who married Isobel Fraser who died in childbirth at the time of her daughter's birth who was named Ann Stewart born 1801.
I find it difficult to link from these findings to Walter Stewart. @@greglewis2266

My family is through Louis XI, With ash blond hair and blue eyes. In 1st grade, I would play with my lips like Olivia did in this video and the teacher scolded/embarrassed me in front of the whole class. I love walking animals, gardening, and writing poetry. The Valois gave me a shrewd personality and we were from Thomas Holand, a possible bell ringer aka Mac Caillin. Not afraid to fight when push comes to shove but also merciful like Phillipa of Hainault too.

Thanks so much for the wonderful video about 'our' grandparents. My connection is through Sir Thomas Whipple and Lady Isabell Buchan Whipple, Countess of Bothwel and the daughter of James Stewart and Joan Beaufort. They too are my grandparents, 17 generations ago. People believed it.since some Scottish will make medicines and creams and stuff out of plants and stuff. U know homemade meds etc. They were just more wducated u guess so the others believed they were making spells which confirmed witches so they killed them.
Also she ordered all first born bots to be killed .
And she also sent out a search party to find the holy grail.and to find all templars and dont come back until they all dead.

Interesting! We may be distant cousins. A second cousin of mine got some information from Ancesty that our family back to James 1 of Scotland as well. He hasn't fully researched it himself so this is not confirmed yet but if so, he would be my 17 times great grandfather. And I see a few comments below that there are other people here who have traced their family back to him too.

Where do people Joan Beaufort daughter of John Of Gaunt married to James the first? She was married to Ralph Neville, my Grandfather! Born 1375. Many people are getting her mixed up with a later Joan. I really wish people would read up on the facts before posting. I found 3 so far. The Joan that married James was born in 1404 - 1445. Her father was John Beaufort and Margaret Holland was her mother. Her father was not John Of Gaunt. TWO different women

A distant family member said though Mary Clarke I most likely has a royalty in my bloodline… This is what he wrote me: One thing you might be interested in: through that Beckford connection you are a direct descendant of King Edward III of England. The line runs through Mary Clarke, daughter of the lieutenant governor of New York, back through the Hyde, Brooke and Nevill families to Joan Beaufort, the daughter of John of Gaunt, son of Edward III.

Joan Beaufort, Queen of England is my 17th Great Grandparents! Thanks for sharing! I am enjoying doing my ancestry. I don't buy the love story between Joan and James. IMHO, that story was made up by some Scottish historian to make their hierarchy look more glamorous/like a fairy tale, but I don't believe it. Why? Because the Beaufort name was scandalized, so to speak based on her grandfather having children out of wedlock with his longtime mistress (Kathryn Swynford), who later became his 3rd wife. Kathryn(the misstress) gave birth to Joan's dad, John Beaufort. Joans granddad and his mistresses relationship may very well have been a true love story. Back in this time period, most marriages were arranged without any real 'love connection' taken into consideration. Everything back then was to 'marry up', so inho, she was most likely coerced OR decided to marry James I to regain their family notoriety, gain power and financial advancement. I think Joan's true love may have been with Sir James Stewart, (her 2nd husband) who was more of a protector, whom Joan married AFTER James I was assassinated. Who falls in love with a prisoner? Only someone who knows that the prisoner is a heir to the throne. I imagine her life was a living hell having to fear for her life at every corner while she was married to James I. Thanks for listening!

I was able to regress to my other life and I was the queen, I was able to feel the great love and the pain of death. That's why over time I began to find out which king had died in his bed. I know all the details and it's not like they say that he got up because he was sleeping he was stabbed face down in the bed I could see it our souls were lifted up but for some reason I came back when I found the story I read that she was saved because she was also stabbed by the back but first they made her see how they murdered her husband while they held her down. And the most curious thing is that the lady-in-waiting has the first and last name of my current mother. They loved each other very much, and under a tree he recited love poems to her. At first they saw each other secretly before they were married, he would jump over a wall to see her.

Learning about your background lifts a bit of mystery about who your distant relatives and the ones that have been gone for a long time, it even answers questions of which people that are alive today, because they just might share a common relative. My Great Grandfather is George MacFarlane. And my relatives have been studying and researching the history and where it branches off. You might even be surprised to find out that I share the same relative Joan Beaufort. And to add James Stewart II King of Scotland is my 16th Great Grandfather on my father's side of the family. I'm posting a link to my family tree in hopes you can expand yours; www.clanmacfarlanegenealogy.info/genealogy/TNGWebsite/getperson.php?personID=I84768&tree=CC
Just click on "Ancestors" and look for the orange arrows that show up at each name. And to make things interesting click on "Family" for more information.

Hey there guys..I am also related to you all, as well. Not directly, but probably cousins. My 19th Great Grand Mother was also named Joan Beaufort, as well. Here is how we are connected. My 19th Great Grand Mother was the DAUGHTER OF John of Gaunt, and Katherine Swynford..So my Great Grandfather (JOHN OF GAUNT) was the son of King Edward lll, of England. Your Great Grandfather was the son of JOHN OF GAUNT, as well. So, your Joan Beaufort was the also the GREAT GRAND DAUGHTER of KING EDWARD lll....I have gone back to around 733 AD...Feel free to contact me if you would like any more info. I went to England and France in 2016, to do more research on the Ancestors. I am going on a 13 night cruise from Miami to England on April 21st. Got a great deal with Norwegian Cruiselines on the Jade..Last time I went, I flew and was so exhausted when I got there, I slept for close to 3 days, on a cruise too. That is why I am cruising there this time.. I will be plenty rested when I get there. Staying in London for 10 days, (at a very nice AIR-BNB, for around $70. a night.) Then heading to Scotland. If anyone is interested in going on the cruise, it is the NORWEGIAN "JADE", leaving April 21st, from Miami, and arriving in South Hampton on May 4th. Total price including Taxes and Port Charges was only $819..Still gotta pay the tips on the ship at $14 a day..Less than a hundred a day..Then flying back from London to San Francisco on NORWEGIAN AIRLINES (not part of the cruise lines) for only around $300. Depending on the day you choose when looking their rate month..If you can swing it, I wouldn't wait too long..I cannot wait..Judy Anstess (PS), I am in Sacramento, California now..Hope to hear from you guys..
