Glad I came across this. I am a descendant in the US. A descendant of Sir Dudley Diggs, via VA Royal Gov Edward Digges--via the Nevill (and St. Leger lines). A descendant of Joan Beaufort (John of Gaunt and Katherine's daughter).
It has been fun doing this research and meeting other descendants from UK!!! What a story and legacy--even though we may be separated by great time and generations it has been wonderful doing this research!

Nice to see Dudley Digges in the comments, cousin…so, here’s a rabbit hole that I just found looking into to his father, Thomas Digges. Thomas’s father died when he was 14, and then he was the ward of and raised and tutored by John Dee and they worked together throughout their lives. So, basically we have an adoptive great whatever grandfather of the original 007, which is a trip, but if you want a real trip, pull up the video titled “the incalculable genius of John Dee” by Alex Waugh and follow it all the way through. I think Thomas Diggs may have even written the introduction to one Dee’s works that gets deciphered in there.

@@Diaphanic1 great to hear from you!!! Yes, my research has shown the same. Grandpa Thomas was John Dee's ward and was probably mentored by him. Thomas' father Leonard Digges was also a mathematician/astronomer. If you happen to be a Harrison-Digges descendant in the US, you will find that Robert Fludd is a "great - uncle"---another very interesting person in the family tree. There is much more in those family lines, other than Presidents and Kings. Also Sir Dudley Digges' wife was Anne Neville St. Leger. Through the Neville and St Leger lines there is much more to explore--more royalty on the European continent and Crusaders, including a couple of Knights Templar Grand Masters. I enjoy data and research. So wonderful to hear from you!!!

@@morgainedepolloc4161 yep, yep, saw the Templar stuff in the chapel the other day on TH-cam….and saw the Leonard Digges stuff too, just didn’t know where to stop and start, hence the video on Dee I recommend which is pretty mind blowing….don’t want to give it away though…

@@Diaphanic1 Great stuff!! I will circle back and take a look at the video, which I have not seen in my research. I enjoy finding the old graves too. I came across a video of a gentleman in England ( another distant relative) that provided an overview of Joan Beaufort --and he visited some of the Neville graves. moving for me!
My father always immersed us in Shakespeare and some English history (although most of what we get in the US is just Tudor history). My dad would just say "we are distantly related to a couple of US Presidents, that's all." So, I have MUCH to research.
Before I even knew the full family history, I actually ended up visiting Temple Church in London -- as a side tour during a visit. I remember it to this day. And Gray's Inn -- - so amusing, as an American, I wondered why they put "lawyers" in Inns? -- are they all just "stored" there until needed?🤣 -- Not even knowing some of my direct ancestors studied there! So much fun researching!!!

There's a good book on Cecily Neville called Queen by Right by Anne Easter Greene that features Joan Beaufort and Ralph Neville at the beginning. Their marriage is portrayed as a love match. Good to know more about her.

Wasn't Margaret's official reason for going along with the marriage of her son to E. of York to finally unite previously rival families? But could she have also realized that if the princes in the t. ever showed up later, that E. of Y. wouldn't have admitted to recognizing them because that would cause her to sacrifice her position as queen to become just another sister of a king?

So Joan was illegitimate! My husband is a descendant on his grandfather's side. We have just found out through a niece doing a family tree.
