You my dear friend are the greatest. I had a old mechanic From the local Harley dealership. End of the assistant service manager young fellow help me out.. We took an 88 out of my 2004 heritage softdale classic. Change the crank to a stroker. Went with the big cylinders. Big pistons 10 and a 1/2 to 1 compression.. We worked ahead some add some bigger Springs and put 585 cams . new tensioners and cam plates high volume oil pump everything it was all . Tore down and rebuilt. Now I have 106.. And it's just about ready to pull my arms off when I take off. When we take it take it to Reno Nevada which we can't do here in California they're gonna dyno it It's supposedly they figure about a 115 to 130 horsepower . When people tell me it doesn't Is access to rebuild a 88 .Wrong.! I Really get a lot from your videos you my friend are the greatest continue doing what you're doing. I wish you were around here in Northern California. Thank you so very much for all your videos. God-bless you and your family always. Sincerely Eric.

Gave away my FXRT to a friend for free, who loves working on Harley’s because I knew he would have to put ten thousand into the bike to make it reliable even though it was running fine. The Screaming Eagle scam is the reason I ride a much better bike now from Europe, instead of sitting in the garage fixing stupid engineered parts from Harley.

Im not surprised at any of what you said about this engine series except that HD did put out a version that was the way it was suppose to be with the beefy bottom end and proper top!
Im an older rider and "Harley guy" who started riding around '73 and the fact that Harley never put out a sled that was more than roughly half ( and I'm being generous!) of its potential was just understood to us then as we learned from the guys before us.
A good many of those guys were guys who picked up surplus military bikes from both WORLD WARS and remember, generator bottoms had just turned to cones in '71 so lots of flatties and knucks and pans were all over the place and being squeezed for power by "real bikers" (with or without any affiliation!).
Anyway i didnt come here to start a pissin contest, only to say thsnks for the video! This is the first time i heard of you and you seem to be a kindred spirit to the guys who were there for me as a teenager gettin me into the life.
Of course your hair is ridiculously shorter than ours was back then but your heart is in the right place!
Keep up the good work and the shiney side too while I go check out some of your other offerings!

Thank you, I really appreciate it! I just saw a lot of people show up with a new to them Harley and didn't know exactly what they bought, had a failure and really got soured on the brand. Mostly tensioner issues on the first generation 88's. It's been awesome helping people out and working to get the word out so at least someone has an idea of what they are buying before hand.

"Head porter's are like machinists, they're a different breed." That's funny. I'm an automotive machinist by trade, I'm just now starting to get into motorcycle stuff, but from an automotive standpoint, mechanics know how to fix stuff (most of the time), machinists know how to make it run...

Great Video. Great Knowledge man! Aside from that I am big fan of the 95. I upgraded my 88 to 95 (with extra goodies) and oil cooler and that darn thing is indestructible. I’ve put 40k plus on that motor and it’s held up really well.

95 is an excellent engines, there's a lot to be said about that short stroke. If you have an 88 my honest opinion is you can't beat a high compression 95 conversion with some good cams.

My buddies father had one of the original Screamin Eagle Road Glides back in the day, he also had a 2005 Screamin Eagle CVO Vrod (I only remember the year because we graduated high school that year) and a 2006 103ci CVO Screamin Eagle Fatboy in Canyon Copper/Concord Purple. He then purchased a 2010 110ci CVO Screamin Eagle Street Glide. He still has the CVO SE Fatboy and the CVO SE Street Glide, both bikes are sitting for atleast 5-10 years, and both only have a couple thousand kilometers on them (when I say a couple thousand I mean like 4000-5000km on each, barely broken In). I was never a fan of the Vrod, but the CVO vrod he had was absolutely GORGEOUS with the Eagle paint scheme and multiple colors. The best part? The son, who now has the Fatboy and Street Glide sitting in the garage having not moved them an inch in years rides a clapped out 2010 Sportster 48 😆. There is also a guy that lives about 5 houses up the road that has a very clean CVO SE Dyna Fat Bob in that really nice yellow and gray marble paint. I know it is only a small portion of the bike, but the paint jobs on the CVO SE bikes really has to be seen to be appreciated, the tins are a work of art on all of them. I really wish they would bring the CVO line back to the softails so we could see some new CVO Fatbobs, Streetbobs, Sportglides and so on! If I have noticed one thing about the CVO SE models, it is that the larger motors/big bores become OEM equipment when SE moves to a larger powerplant on the newer models. Examples being the 88ci to 95ci, then 96ci to 103ci, 103ci to 110ci, or the 1250ci Vrod motor (I don't think any 110ci motors made it to non SE or S type bikes, but the rest did). There is so many variables to all these machines, and I appreciate the time and effort you put into researching for and passing on your knowledge, and accept new information from others!

I just got my new S&S cam plate and oil pump installed on my 88 by Harley-Davidson in Beaumont Texas. (They did a fantastic job)
Beings I was at the mercy of Harley-Davidson they did a install on screaming eagle lifters and pushrods. Due to the fact that one of my lifters crumbled when they cut the pushrods out. (I was lucky with this one) Otherwise I would have been running the S&S lifters and pushrods. Don't get me wrong I'm very happy with the outcome, they go good with my 509 S&S gear cams and the S&S headers. It's a long story short, my belief is you can't go wrong with the S&S proven performance.
Thoroughly enjoyed your video as always.
PS; I'm saving my pennies for the 51 mm zipper. I tell my butt buddies after the zipper, "I'm done". For some reason they think that's funny.
    Thanks again for the upload.

It's a good thing you got those upgrades when you did! That lifer could of shelled the motor had it come apart! Awesome to hear you got some nice upgrades in the motor! Lol yeah it's never done, you do a little and get used to it and then it's time for more!

@@GixxerFoo I take a lot of pride in my machine. Last winter, I bumped up my drive sprocket off the transmission two teeth. And pulled the trailing arm for an upgrade with the spherical bearings. (Noticeable difference). My butt buddies ask me when is enough enough ?
But you're correct, in my case you get used to the added horsepower and torque. And then I'm thinking what is it I can do to get a little more out of this machine and still keep the longevity of the motor. So I've concluded that once I install my rocker lockers, a new compensator, with the throttle body (ECM) from zipper. I've had this vision on this bike for 10 years. And I feel as though I'm so close to completion I can taste it. I come from a family of motorcycle enthusiasts my entire life and it is not uncommon in my family to make the bike "yours"
If you know what I mean.

Doing an SE 131 kit next week on my 2021 Ultra Limited. Adding a Max-cell cam kit, Fullsac header, Khrome Werks slipons and too much more to list. Started out as a 114, I did an SE 122 kit and not satisfied. I had watched this video when it came out. So HD just releases SE head bolts. The SE 131 kit comes with new head bolts. Because of this video I called HD HQ and cross referenced the head bolt #'s included in the SE 131 kit and the stock head bolts on the 114 engine. They are the SAME #'s! Selling a $3500. kit with stock spec head bolts to go with your CNC heads. S&S head bolt kit and ARP cylinder stud kit on the way!!! Both reusable. Btw for those wondering I got a great deal on the SE 131 kit and was going to stay warranty compliant. And besides the cam, lifters and tune any HD dealer can service it. Thanks for your videos I have learned a lot about my first Harley.

The SE cams aren't quite as aggressive as the aftermarket cams, if you're under warranty I would wait to put a aftermarket cam. Aftermarket cams are going to have a much better sound and power output.

I have a 07 SG which originally came with a 96” boring engine. I had it bumped up to a Screaming Eagle 110” with 259 cams bored and stroked pushing 103hp and 112tq. My advice is if you are going to bump up your engine, go with a Zipper kit or a S&S kit. Screaming Eagle kits are not all they are cracked up to be. Don’t get me wrong the bike will move in a hurry but foe the money, go with one of the other kits.

I could not agree more my 04 CVO seems fairly strong for what it is although I had a guy on a stock 88 road glide walk away on my and couldn’t believe it was stock but after talking to several wrenches and specifically one that worked on that bike said it was stock and that the owner from the moment he bought it brand new with only 6 pdi miles on it said the the first time and almost every time the owner rode the bike he pinned the throttle every time he took off he left in a Smokey burn out in the mechanics opinion he broke it in right for him that is I would never bounce off the rev limiter on a brand new engine but he did crazy but true story.

Stock 103, 2015 Rushmore streetglide was neck and neck with my stock cvo 110, 2010 streetglide until about 80 or 90 mph and then the 103 started walking away. The 103 Rushmore bikes with the 103HO designation actually have a .511 lift cam, the 255 CVO cam is a .556 which focuses more on low to mid range torque. I could see the 103HO running out harder on the SE 110.

I can only imagine their profit margin on those cost savings, I saw a dealer price sheet on a CVO from several years ago. Dealer makes about 12K on a CVO if they sell it at full MSRP.

Bottom line, if your looking to get a bagger buy a goldwing! The Bangkok bagger will be good off the shelf

I seriously considered it but I just can’t get past the looks of them. I could ride one and even enjoy it but I’d have to walk up to it backwards to get on it.

Man the knowledge you have on harleys is crazy impressive. I'd love to have you build my tc 88.

I just seen too many people buy a TC and not know what all was going on in that model year! What all do you have done to your 88 so far?

@@GixxerFoo it's pretty much stock at the moment. It's in the shop right now getting the screaming eagle cam chain tensioner upgrade kit installed with the new cam plate and high volume oil pump. I've deleted the rear turn signals and did an ebay taillight with integrated signals. And pulled baffles out of the screaming eagle 2 slip ons. Other than a driver mod engine is bone stock. Bike is an 02 dyna low rider. I specifically sought out that bike from watching you and kruesi originals lol.

I like the CVOs because they are factory customs that you don’t need to anything to other than ride.

You couldn't build one cheaper with the same parts as you can buy a CVO, they are beautiful bikes and they do have a little extra punch over the stock production bikes.

Ehh usually cvo's r overpriced by a base model and u can build it better for same price or less .

The power to weight ratio on these old cruisers was anemic. No wonder the forign bikes got such a foothold.

Screaming Eagal should be called Jive Turkey's.

Thank you for the sub, the 2002 would have the 95 inch cylinders and pistons, with the SE 203 cam and the stock 88 heads.

Harley seems to think that one horsepower per cubic inch it's fantastic yet most of the British manufacturers were beating that with a 40 cubic inch bike with 40 horsepower with a single carburetor back in the 1950s

Thanks for the info, damn it why does Harley hope people don't see this stuff and wonder why they're sales are in trouble, and Indian sales increased because they put the best parts in and don't try to deceive customers! Harley bean counters and marketing better get their shit together!

They really starting cutting costs after the Evo and it hasn't been the same ever since.
