  • Replacing the turbo oil feed pipe on a Peugeot 407 fitted with the 1.6 16V 110bhp DV6TED4 engine. This car had a considerable oil leak coming from the turbo oil feed pipe unions on both sides, with the pipe noticeably loose where it met the unions. The pipe itself was fairly inexpensive, and the job took a couple of hours. It involved the removal of the turbo and DPF to access the point where the pipe attaches to the engine block. The copper washers, which seal the banjo bolts, were also replaced.
These engines are normally known for blowing turbos. However, this one, with over 180,000 miles, proves that with regular oil changes and the correct low SAPs oil, they can be reliable and economical powertrains, and not too challenging to work on.
This engine is fitted to a wide variety of PSA (Peugeot Citroën) vehicles, including the Peugeot 206, 207, 307, 308, 3008, 5008, and Partner, as well as Citroën C2, C3, C4, C5, and Berlingo. Additionally, Ford and its subsidiaries at the time, such as Fiesta, Focus, Transit Connect, Volvo V40, and Mazda 3, to name a few, all used this engine.
I was also changing the alternator at the same time, which was why the air conditioning pump and alternator were removed. This provided better access to some of the DPF bolts, but it should still be possible to do the job with them in place, although access was definitely improved.
The owner of this car was very glad to get it back on the road, as he was forced to drive a Toyota Avensis, which had a lot more problems than this 407: a slipping clutch, bad brakes, a heater that did not work, and it was in limp mode. It also struggled to achieve 40mpg, while this 407 generally averages 50mpg and above. In total, the 407 received a timing belt kit replacement, a replacement alternator, and a turbo oil feed pipe to put it back into daily service.
