I live in Colorado and am about 40 minutes away from The Stanley hotel which is what The Overlook was inspired by.
I'm Jealous that you can be scared, I started reading King with Cujo when I was 7 and read The Shining for the first time when I was 12 (I "borrowed" my older brothers books).
I read The Sundial by Shirley Jackson last month (2☆ my least favorite Shirley Jackson btw), and it was about a family called the Hallorans including one named Richard, King is a big fan of Jackson and that's definitely not a coincidence.
I was buddy reading The Sundial with Alice I hope that if she read it she didn't think it was as rubbish as I did, one of her last books being bad makes me sad.

Hi Bryndis 👋🏽. I've watched the movie 🍿, visited The Stanley Hotel, but have not yet read the book...I would like to read it but have not prioritized it because I've already seen the movie.
@books_and_bocadillos It's been quite a long time since I saw the film so I don't remember if there is a big difference. I do know that Stephen King didn't like the film.

@@books_and_bocadillos yea the movie has several differences both major and minor. There is a second made for TV movie that follows the book much more closely.
I am slow to horror, always enjoyed classic horror like 'Dracula' & 'Frankenstein', but have finally decided to hit some contemporary examples (after discovering Shirley Jackson). I'll give some Stephen King a go - maybe. I'll follow you.
@apoetreadstowrite I'm also á fan of the classics horror books. I want to read more from Shirley Jackson, I've just read The haunting of hill house. Stephen King is very daunting to me, but now I feel more confident having conquered The Shining 😜
