As a non streamer, I went from single to dual monitor several times, I find second monitors too distracting and useless. Plus they take up hella desk space.
My reason for multiple monitors. The 1st monitor is for Gaming and Productivity. 2nd monitor is discord and media such as TH-cam, Netflix, Hulu, etc. Just helps keep things organized easier.

As a programmer it is a great thing, to have a dual monitor setup, it increases my productivity by a lot while working on projects. And even in daily multitasking, it helps a lot.
So imo for students & workers, a dual monitor is good if u want multiple tabs FULLY open & viewable at the SAME time. In corporate, I had my client profile up on 1 monitor & a database up on the 2nd, which let me help them faster instead of splitting 1 monitor screen in half with limited/cropped view. If I'm preparing for a college essay, I could research on 1 monitor & take notes on the 2nd one
I have 3 monitors at home and 4 at my office. I usually just use 1/3 at home to play my switch. But when I am working remote the 3 monitors is key when doing takeoffs and using multiple programs at a time. The 4 at the office is also super useful because they're smaller than my home setup. 3 monitors while working is an absolute must for me.
Programmer and "artist" here. Multiple monitors are a must for me. Couldn't have 3 monitors because of the space required but I got 2 and can't go back to a single monitor setup anymore. Switching between apps a hundred times is a waste of time or splitting your screen in 2 for some apps... I just can't. I don't know if I explained this well (I'm half asleep lol) but yeah, just my opinion though, I know people that get distracted so that's a thing too (not my case :P).

I have been using two monitors since about 1992. Not for gaming only, but for productivity. I started using two at work somewhere around 2003. When I moved to the corporate office in 2006, I was surprised to see that NO ONE ELSE used two monitors, not even accounting. I was looked at as being the pariah for using two monitors, until someone else started using two monitors as well. VERY shortly afterwards, TWO and THREE monitors became the standard at work. The company even provides two 32 inch monitors to everyone at work that asks for them, even those that work from home. When I see someone using one monitor only, I question how hard that person is actually working ..
When i was new to escape from tarkov it was such a useful tool to have the map and tarkov markeplace ooen so i could see where everything is and search up the value of items.
I recently upgraded to a second monitor(setup looks like yours but the monitor placement is flipped) and it is amazing. If before when I would just do regular work and games it was great to have

The small monitor on top of the pc is actually great placement if there aren’t exhaust fans up top. Might have to do that. Multiple monitors is necessary to keep me off of my phone and focused on tasks at hand with media at the same time if I’d like

I’ve also been using my TV as a second monitor! Using my laptop at home, I often connect my desktop monitor to it either as second screen or main screen as it’s bigger and much better image quickly!
Other than that, it really helps for some work like open an excel in monitor 1, open word or pdf in monitor 2 and open Autocad,revit, etc. In monitor 3
I used to think like this until i actually tried it. Most of the time even when i use 3 monitors, i can only focus my attention at 1 task at a time. It's only useful to quickly take a peek, but essentially the alt + tab on a single monitor can do the same , windows also have a virtual desktop feature you can switch in-between.
As an bout to be TH-camr i can garuntee that he is correct, 2 monitors is like having both eyes function in 20-20 vision, while only having a single monitor is like being a cyclops
I have one g5 and two 27" samsung monitors. I think that's good enough. But two g5 is also about the same real estate. It's just a lot more pixels to push at a higher framerate.
I am consider going for the g9 and selling my two others. So one 49" and then my g5 above that. I think that's my setup next year when the g9 goes down in price
Actually true. My monitor layout is the same as this guy. I got a 27" main and a 24" vertical on the left. It's a heaven for coding. My alt+tab got their rest time now.
"The Best 40$ investment " I started to feel fatigue using my pc a year ago, and I started to lose passion. I dumbed 130$ on a keyboard nothing changed, got better mouse grip nothing changed, bought a new chair with alot of features didn't work... My stupid a$$ always hated second monitor, and found it distrusting.. Said to myself "okay then that's the last thing I haven't tried, I won't invest more than 40$".. .. Got a refurbished aoc 75hz ips and man... That's the best thing I have ever did, no fatiguing and even in my studying it's better and can do alllooottt of things at once.. Heck! Now am getting ready for the third one lol.
Really like the clean setup, but the monitor situation is kinda destroying it for me. I dont really get the point of the third (external) monitor. wrong viewing angle and for me all monitors should fit size wise. I use 3 27 inch monitors, while one is in vertical mode. Also i bought ones with thin bezels, so the black bars dont add up so much. Second monitor is important, but third is optional and often not needed. But when you stream, even 3 are some times too few.
I’ve gone from 1 to 3, to 6, to 4… Now back to 1… It’s all what you do. If you need an extra screen, get the cheapest one. If you need an extra screen like for graphics design, then definitely get a good one. I had two 98+ coverage for my main editing monitors and I used 3 other kinds of monitors to color correct for a general field of view. Not everyone has the same monitor and settings, so I used 3 different displays that were cheaper just so I could see how the color looked on other monitors with different settings. So you don’t need more than 1 if you’re just gaming or browsing. Or get an ultra wide, works similar and less desk space.

I work in IT. Basically If there are problems in the software we sell I am called If our customers get an update or have to switch servers I am the person to do it. When I began I had a dual Monitor setup. But I soon realized I needed at least 1 more monitor. And I tell you a triple monitor setup was the best. In the middle you have your main monitor that is where you put on what you are currently working on. If it's writing an email or you are on a customers PC giving support that's happening there. On the left Monitor I have my ticket system. With all the customer information that I need. And on the right monitor I have outlook for the calendar and new mails and my file explorer.
Im engineer and i use the second monitor for data sheets, blueprints, and other am sometimes i have 5 things at the same time and i wish i have the third one

I've seen some amazing monitors recently, not sure if it's more of a gimmick but they're short in height and are designed to go above your keyboard at an angle. It's advertised to be used for smaller things like reading errors or compositing, it's big enough to read text for sure, but small enough to not make a difference in space.

brotha i've been using single monitor for a decade now. i finally have a 2nd monitor just recently cus i bought a 4k 144hz monitor, so my 1080p 144hz is my 2nd monitor, but i do not even use it. i just turn it off, it's basically an animated painting when it's on. i only use the 2nd montior heavily for work. if i stream or record gameplay i'll use the 2nd monitor but other than that, nothing.
This is exactly how I felt. I noticed that the second monitor was really either just keeping discord up, or just have wallpaper engine running. I purposely turned off my second monitor for a few weeks to see if I was ever tempted to turn it on. After month 2 of leaving the second monitor turned off, I decided to just take it out of my setup completely. I also did not feel like I could be super productive if I was looking at a video/chatting and playing game/working. No one is really good at "multitasking".
i like to play escape from tarkov. So i have my old samsung monitor, i use it as a second monitor, and keep a map on it (i'm only learning the maps, so i have one on second monitor). It is pretty comfortable
I have 3 but 2 control 1 monitor and then my laptop, cheap but effective setup, i have my laptop in portrait mode and control music from there since i like music

Second monitor is just essential for any computer related activity. Work, leisure, programming, gaming, ect..
I have an ultrawide 1440p as the main monitor and a 1080p as a secondary but to be honest, I haven't even used it for a while..

I used to use 2 monitors like 1 month ago but i went simplistic recently andd put my 2nd monitor in my wardrobe so my setup can look cleaner

I think moving forward 2 monitors should be the default. 3 isn't needed and is optional depending on your use case.

I purposely turned off my second monitor for a few weeks to see if I was ever tempted to turn it on. After month 2 of leaving the second monitor turned off, I decided to just take it out of my setup completely.
I also did not feel like I could be super productive if I was looking at a video/chatting and playing game/working. No one is really good at "multitasking".
One 34" UW is enough for me

me too but when I go back to one monitor. I will use virtual desktop feature all the time cus it give kindna same feelings but a bit inconvenient

If you have old monitor you can buy new and hang them both on arm with vertical view for old one as secondary
i like to play escape from tarkov. So i have my old samsung monitor, i use it as a second monitor, and keep a map on it (i'm only learning the maps, so i have one on second monitor). It is pretty comfortable

I have 3 but 2 control 1 monitor and then my laptop, cheap but effective setup, i have my laptop in portrait mode and control music from there since i like music
And my PlayStation controls my 3rd monitor
