- We all know and love the Toyota RAV4 hybrid, but what would the hybrid SUV look like and feel like after a while of use?
What will the wear and tear be to the vehicle and how will it age? How will the hybrid system drive and feel on a Toyota RAV4 hybrid after 4 years?
In this video, I answer and go over a lot of the questions, I even show you some general wear and tear on the RAV4 hybrid and how they hold up.
I think you will be very pleased.
Thanks for watching!

As a hybrid owner I can say this video does not address the main concern about hybrid vehicles, which is the state of the battery over time. To me it doesn't matter how pristine the vehicle looks, I want to know about the performance more than anything else .
I have a 2023 Rav4 limited loaded it's a great vehicle I get 51 to 53 miles per gallon in the summer and around 47 in the winter. Hybrid is the only way to go stay away from all electric.
Our 2024 Limited is only getting 39 mpg. Do you only drive downhill? We’ve had it for 4 months and love it.
Love pertains to affection on living things use the word like
@johnbrando2666 Oh, OK Professor. Thanks for clearing that up for those of us that don't gaf.
Honestly was thinking the same. Why make up fake numbers@@howardcrane5902
@@howardcrane5902 If mike's is Canadian miles and your U.S. miles will explain a large part of the difference. Also I've noticed with mine that trips under 10 miles will significantly lower your mileage. I have a mix of short and long trips and get around 48 mpg in Canada. That would convert to about 40 mpg in the U.S.
2009 Corolla first motor 400,000 miles. ONLY blew a head gasket. Decided to get a used motor instead of costly HG repair. Miles now? 564,000 and going strong. Oh, I replaced a noisy Transmission at 520,000 miles. I just bought a '23 Tacoma 4 x 4.
Wow that’s hella reliable. I have 2009 matrix that supposedly has the same 1.8L engine. Did you encounter any vvti rattle? It sounds like a belt squeal on cold starts, I have it and I’m only at 130k miles
I’ve a Prius 2019 purchased on march 2020 and it has now 133k kms and runs like new. I’m planning to keep it.
I have a 2021 XLE Rav4 Hybrid with 47K and it's held up well. A few minor road chips. no squaks or rattle. Gas milage is still great at 40mpg. I have it serviced regulary at my local dealer. The only problem I have is the cloth seat. I wish I had the softex seats. The color is the Ruby Pearl Red Meatalic. I aslo owned a 2018 Rav4 XLE non-hybrid, that was a amazing ride. Thank you for this video. I'm in the US but I enjoy your infomative videos,
Can we see an image of the MGR connection?
Was the hybrid cable replaced? My 2020 RAV4H had the corroded cable replaced at 60k km’s.
Great question🤔🤔
Toyota is the Best car on the market bar none. This shows why it's the leader of all car companies. Great Quality, Great Safety, Excellent Hybrid! I love my 2020 Camry SE Huybrid.
Honda and Toyota are the best car companies in the World. But Toyota makes more cars in Japan, most notably their most popular models like the RAV4, so their overall quality and reliability is higher. Other regions cannot duplicate or come close to the Japanese.
16k km s on my 2024 Rav 4 Woodland HEV trim
45-52 🇨🇦 mpg. Best midsize SUV I’ve ever owned. Zero 🚩. Absolute Great value !
RAV4 is a compact SUV, aka CUV or Crossover, regardless of trim. The Highlander is a midsize.
I once owned a Civic Hybrid. After 5 years, the engine was still running like brand new - although I had to replace the battery as it wasn't holding up its charge anymore. The point is that the battery was dynamically consistent in augmenting the engine from severe stress, which is the main factor that wears the engine down over time.
I have a 2024 XSE Rav4 Hybrid and love it! Agree with you! LOVE the backup sound! Sounds sci-fi ish!!!
Show us the condition of the orange MGR cable underneath the car!
I‘m a victim of cable corrosion issue, have to pay $8000 to replace it.
@@allkindsofdelivery There is a TSB/Recall for it. If your vehicle has an issue with it, it is covered under warranty. There is also an extended warranty available for it (if you aren't having issues currently).
@@jeffer1101 And the headliner /roof rail leak as well as the rear hatch springs.
@@garywilliams5473 not sure, haven't heard about those.
Just couple cents. It's 2020, so it might be close to the end of life of high voltage cable ( at least it should be covered by warranty). Another problem is more serious - it might have a problem with roof rail leak which can cause serious problems. Stains on top of the doors might be a traces of water leak.
Personally I would avoid years before 2022 because of possible water damage and old design of high voltage cable.
I have 2022 and it has problem with rail water leak fixed, but high voltage cable still has a problem with corrosion (even it's a newer design, but warranty for it was extended to 8Y/160K )
I thought the roof rail leak issue was fixed since the 2022 MY. Your 2022 still had this issue?
@@anonymoususer5541 My 2022 has roof rail leak fixed (no holes in the roof), but cable is not. Something tells me even 2024s will have problems with cable.
I have a 2022, love it. Getting 7.1/100km but I live in BC, lots of hills.
I have a 2020. RAV 4 Hybrid. Still looks like new after 46 thou kilm. Very satisfied. My forever car. Added side door protectors and side running boards. (Steps)
This one is in Canada? Be prepared to have your high voltage cable replaced in the near future, expensive job if it is not done under warranty.
Not all of them were affected, but there is now a TSB/Recall on it so if you have that issue it is covered under an extended warranty (8 years).
@jeffer1101 This warranty is only if maintenance is done by the official toyota dealer during this 8 years.
My cable was replaced after 4 years, so probably next time, the cable needs to be replaced, I'll be a month out of warranty or so.
I have a 2021 Limited Hybrid with 105,000 miles. Same pearl white color. Serviced every 5,000 miles at dealership. Actual calculated 44 mpg overall. June 9, 2024 will be 3 years owned.
Hi just want to know if you can rust proof a rav4 hybrid..just got my ‘24 SE hybrid..planning to have it rust proofed..but the dealer said it’s not allowed on hybrids..thanks..
Hey Marcelo! Love your content as always. Do you know if Toyota canada has an official fix for leaking a pillars caused by roof rails? I can only find info for Toyota USA and Mexico.
What about the "cable gate" orange wire and connector--how's that Canadian road salt corrosion going?
I bought my first toyota in Nov , a 2024 Rav hybrid. I have asked my local dealer with regards to rust check / proofing on the hybrid and i havent been able to get a straight answer and i am hoping you can help.
My wife and i ar retired and we plan to keep this hybrid rav for a long time.
Do you recommend rust proofing the vehicle or does Toyota , not recommend this being done.
Thank you so much in advance
Does CR-V hybrid 2024 come with rear parking sensors in all trims?
Really wish they had approved licensed alternative sounds to the pedestrian alert sound. Would love it to sound like the knight Rider scanner whoom-whoom
i had mine for less than 2 years and on 47k miles now
I have a 2012 Yaris, it gets 46 to 48 mpg on highway. One of the best cars I have owned. Cannot get in ON now, sad. To get your money back for a hybrid would take years and many thousands of km. Corolla is as good with a ICE.🍁🍁🍁🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
It's in Canada. The weather there is mostly cool, cold and freezing. Put it in hot and humid area like Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. The heat does more wear and tear to any parts of a vehicle. 4 year old vehicle is still consider new. Pass 7-10 years, more clarity would be more. 11-15/20 years, more things will pop up more than usual.
My 2008 Toyota camry in the 1-5, year, nothing pop up. By 2014, the dash board has melt due to the heat of Texas. Headlight became yellowish. Carpet and seats have discolor. More internal problems like leaking oil became prominent. It's still fixable and it's run smoothly until recently when it's a total loss due to a traffic accident. The last mileage is 140k.
My wife's 2015 Honda Odyssey as of now has no major problem.
A lot of municipalities in Canada use salt on the roads in winter. The salt corrodes vehicles a lot faster
@@steverobinson1979 Experts with AAA SAID the extreme heat is worse for your car than the extreme cold. The heat can cause car batteries to die, tires to pop and alternators and air conditioners to go out because of how hot the engine gets.Aug 4, 2023
In the initial year of our operations, our organization did not engage in leasing or purchasing new Toyota vehicles for two decades. Typically, our annual leasing practices involve acquiring approximately 15 new vehicles. However, the prevailing high interest rates during that period influenced our decision-making process. We plan to transition to Honda next year.
You didn't even test the hybrid battery to see how it's doing....come on! I have a 2017 Rav4 hybrid and I love it but I'm getting closer to the hybrid warranty ending and I'm concerned about hybrid battery replacement. I wanted to see how that's judged on a used hybrid. How long will it last reasonably?
They are just getting early 2000s prius cars in for battery replacements so you're good for about 15 years from date of purchase or longer
@@everythingsgooddeli557 I still have original battery in my 2009 Honda civic hybrid
Toyota the best....
But waiting time is bit lengthyyyyy... Be patient
Was this car kept in a garage?
mine has 127000 klms on it still drives like new no dramas at all in glacier white is in australia hybrid 2wd what we call the "gx" in australia the base model i have seen a few top of range hybrid"cruiser" in dealers 1 had 180000 klms on it and the other had 208000 klms on it both 2019 models somsomebody was doing a heaps of driving in them
This morning, on our way to the Office, which is Downtown, and a RAV5 Toyoda "Flip Over" in collision with Hyundai SUV, Santa Fe? So, why the SUV flip/ Rollover in City Driving? That is not safety Top Knot???
Regards,
Our Subaru Outback 2008; and Legacy 1992, last us until stolen in May 2023 = With Good Tires/Rims much higher clearance than the RAV5 !!! 😂 😂 Don't take us wrong we owned Toyoda Camry V6 LE 1993 like those early 3000cc Engines on Lexus ES300... They did spin like crazy in Winter here!!
Get a CrossTrek and/or Forester and owner will know he/she are Safe and better "Peace of Mind"
Cheers,
6 to 8 months of harsh winter conditions in Canada...Really ?? May want to edit that out 😂😂
Perhaps he lived in Parallel Planet of Yukon where in July 1997 there were traces of Snow there; and that meant 10 months of winter, as August already snowfalls there!
C'est La Vie 😆 😆...
The first thing you need to do in such harsh environment is to anti rust treat the car. I am living in Norway, every 2 years I treated my RAV4 2012 with anti rust (Fluid film) and still no rust shown and its running like a clock.
Where in Canada do you live? 8 months of harsh winter, maybe come down below the North Pole bud !
Backup noise seemed very acceptable from inside the vehicle.
My Prius had a Backup beeper. But it was inside the vehicle. To warn the driver that he had just put the car into reverse?????
They hooked up a laptop and turned the stupid thing off 😅
I figured the next vehicle will have this drive train. Rav4? Vensa? Crown? Used Lexus suv?
No hurry, Prius is still young.
2024 cameras are markedly better than the 2022.
Where I live the hybrids has a better resale value and are highly sought after in the secondhand market. Bying secondhand, the non hybrids seem to stick to the dealers forecourt.
I have the same 2020 white hybrid.. 86,500 km. Not a mark on it..except for oil changes, no service at all. Canadian made in Cambridge, Ontario for Canadian roads. 5.2 litre per 100 km..about 46 mpg average. Kilometre rhymes with millimetre, btw.
I wonder if you can upgrade TSS 2.0 to 2.5 if you buy used vehicule. because with hybrid or EV no one will want old tech because the new hybrid give more efficiency = more mile per gallon.
In just 4 years, that kind of rusting in the chassis and especially the suspension is scary bad. Imagine how bad it will be after 6 more years.
I live in a coastal city with terrible storm and typhoons thru much of the year, and yet my 20 year old Nissan Xtrail have not rusted half that bad. Maybe just 5% of that. Considering I'm very lazy at taking care of the car. Car wash happens once in every 4 or 5 years. Always late at changing oil, sometimes exceeding 20,000 km. You get the idea.
I'm glad I'm not driving a Toyota.
It's better than my 2024 lexus
50k?!? Have 101k km on my '20 and it drives like I drove it off the lot new
50k kilometres in 4 years is nothing. I'd be more interested to see how a hybrid RAV4 holds up after 30-40k kilometres a year, which isn't out of the ordinary for people who have to commute a few hours a day to and from work.
Check out The Car Care Nut's video. He did a review on a 2019 Prius with 341K miles.
Check out my comment. 3 yrs, 105,000 miles!
Probably an okay vehicle if you don't mind driving something that looks budget/cheap & fugly.
They may have good engines, but the rest is abysmal.
Honda & Toyota hybrid, Nothing Else.😊
The license plate has rusted away!
Garage kept and new tires
My 2019 has 18k miles (21km) and it is immaculate
i am going to take delievery of my Toyota Rav4 2024 LE hybrid next monday....hoooray....
“Rail dust” people. Use iron out spray you get rid of that.
Maybe dont fully detail the car interior, exterior and engine bay before talking about how it has held up aesthetically 😏
How can we tell how it is holding up if it is dirty?
Only 30K miles ... that's hardly any in that time line.
Go under the truck to see the rust
50,000 km is almost NOTHING.
The 4 years did more damage than the 50,000 km.
If you drive just 50K km in 4 years (12.5 per year), you don't really need a hybrid.
I disagree; it depends on how long you plan to keep the car, cost of fuel in your Country, whether you do a lot of city traffic...
Sorry to inform you the rav4 is a chick car 😂
