A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: "As-Salamu 'Alaikum (May peace be upon you). The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) responded to his greeting and the man sat down. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Ten (meaning the man had earned the merit of ten good deeds)." Another one came and said: "As-Salamu 'Alaikum wa Rahmatullah (May peace be upon you and the Mercy of Allah)." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) responded to his greeting and the man sat down. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Twenty." A third one came and said: "As-Salamu 'Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu (May peace be upon you and the Mercy of Allah and His Blessings)." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) responded to his greeting and the man sat down. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Thirty."

عن عمران بن الحصين رضي الله عنهما قال: جاء رجل إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال: السلام عليكم، فرد عليه ثم جلس، فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: “عشر” ثم جاء آخر، فقال: السلام عليكم ورحمة الله، فرد عليه فجلس، فقال: "عشرون" ثم جاء آخر، فقال: السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته، فرد عليه فجلس، فقال: “ثلاثون” ((رواه أبو داود والترمذي وقال: حديث حسن)).

Studying the Madhab:
(Level One) Bidayatal Abid + Bulugh al-Qasid
- Also refer to Munayat al-Sajid.
(Level Two) Umdat al-Talib + Hidayat ar-Raghib
- Also refer to the various explanations of Akhsar to be used as a supplement in your studying.

You can start by reading the Qur'an. And then learn tafseer from a real and a good SCHOLAR who has AUTHENTIC knowledge.
1) qur'an
2)tafseer such as tafseer as Sa'di for english
3) kitab at tawheed explanation by sheikh uthaymeen in english for aqeedah
4) for fiqh u can refer to a summary of islamic jurisprudence by sheikh salih al fawzan

Hamed Kakar Ibn Hazm was an astounding scholar and his magnum opus, al-Muhalla is a marvel amongst the greatest books of Fiqh every written. Wouldn’t recommend it for beginners or even mid level students of knowledge but a must have for scholars.

Sorry to say imam Ahmad was not a faqeeh .how can he be mujtahid in fiqh .same is opinion of Ibn jarir tabri and Ibn Abdul barr.so he has not mentioned imam Ahmad ibn hanabl in al intiqa
Imam Ahmed was a great faaqih.Imam Muhammed Ibn Idrees Shafai,Imam Muhammed Ibn Ismael Al Bukhari,Imam Ali ibn Al Madini,Imam Yahya ibn Maeen,Imam Ishaq ibn Rahuyah,Imam Abu Dawood,etc all of them praised him for his efforts fighting against Ahlul Bidaa.Ibn Jarir At Tabari himself collected fabrications in his tafsir.
Imam Shafii said,
“I left Baghdad and I did not leave behind me someone more pious, cautious (regarding doubtful matters), understanding (in fiqh) and knowledgable than Ahmad.”
Imam Shafii said,
“Imam Ahmad is an authority in 8 fields - Hadith, Fiqh, Language, Quran, Faqr (poverty), Zuhd (asceticism), Wara (being cautious) and the Sunnah”.

Yup I heard that, Ibn Abdil Barr Al-Maliki, Ibn Hazmin Al-Andalusi not classify Imam Ahmad as faqih but only as muhadist. The books Hanbali books that sheikh recommended here also recently wrote. It seems that Hanbali madhab still developing and not complete yet and the Hanabilah still arguing whether to use usool fiqh or not, majority of them consider it heritic same as ilm kalam 😢.
