Super odd this weekend I'm zeroing my new primary arms red dot. I'm still a little curious about the chevron and ring concept. But I'm gunna give it a go and see what happens!
If your shooting at a circle ⭕️ aim the tip/point of the chevron at either the bottom ring or top ring of the circle. It’s a fine tip so this helps with my eyes.

Great video; the illustrations are great for anyone, beginners included. I would add one thing: looking at a ballistic calculator may allow you to increase your zero distance and thus increase your point blank range. I mean point blank in the technical "Napoleonic Era cannon pointe blanc" sense, which essentially means "the maximum distance at which your weapon system is point and click". There are a ton of ballistic calculators; you can google Hornady's and be using it in minutes with zero instruction provided that you know your bullet's mass and BC as well as the muzzle velocity from your gun. You can get trajectory vs sight line in 25yd increments, which allows you to choose a zero range such that the height of the bullet over your sight line will always be below some acceptable level (say 1") while pushing the zero range out to 150 or even 200 yards. A greater zero distance can add 50-100 yards to your point blank range, which can be very helpful if you don't want to dial or don't have a BDC reticle (and both of those solutions take time, training, and are not perfect). Globally a 100 yard zero is a great starting point, but a bit of time on the internet and the use of a 200 yard range can add some extra distance to relatively simple gear. I also greatly prefer 5 shot groups to 3 shots because with 3 shot groups, you're invariably making subjective calls on the center of the group. I believe that in aggregate, you ultimately waste more ammo shooting extra groups while chasing those judgement calls than the extra shots for a smaller number of groups. That's just my opinion, but it has served me well even with heavy recoiling and/or expensive calibers.
If you refer to the « point blank » term in french for the Napoleonic era stuff, the proper idiom term used is « à bout portant » in the language. Basically means « within reach ». Reach of firearms which can naturally and by design be pretty big, from 0 yards to several hundreds of yards.
After mounting a red dot to a pistol, I will adjust the dot to sit on top of the front sight post. That usually gets you close on paper. Then refine the zero from a bag rest. Possibly refine further shooting free hand.
Hello im practicing sight picture with my g19. In one of your videos of you teaching sight picture for rifles you said just look at your target and bring the red dot up. I run iron sights and it helps a lot I get I perfect a lot more and I just wanna thank you.
@@m4rvinmartian My laser bore sighter gets me on paper at 100 yards but is still 3-5 MOA off from being zeroed. Well, that's my expensive one. The cheaper bore sighters I tried would vary wildly every time I attached it to my rifle, and were only useful to amuse my pets with. In neither case have my bore sighting systems negated my need to confirm zero on paper. Also, different ammunition will display zero shift independent of what a laser suggests, so if you ever try different brands or grain weights, you'll still wanna send a couple rounds downrange.
I didn't know had to use lock tight... the blue one in specific.. lol after wasting so much ammo found some pins and after a while realized it came off my red dot and iron sight.. went home lock tight them and wasted more ammo re sighting them in... interested in purchasing that lazer sight thing now lol got some good practice though and helped break it in as it's brand new..... also for new guns strip down wipe factory oil off and add ur own oil. Thanks to my uncle I didn't make that mistake but he didn't think I didn't put lock tight on it. Lol also when I upgraded the stock I tried unscrewing it and half way realized it just comes off with the button. And broke the little pin inside and ended up buying a oops kit. Now I have extra parts incase any break and fixed it before shooting again. Was wondering why the spring wasn't staying in place in the stock. Live and learn probably the best way to learn.
Zeroing Eotech holo, you might want to tap the optic lightly after making adjustments, or shoot one extra round before the actual grouping. My experience is that they need a bit of help for the adjustments to settle
The technique concept works, but you’ll need a different target because 7.62x39 ballistics are way different. I’m fairly confident AK Operators Union had a target like that calibrated for x39. Make sure your rear sight is set to “1” for that though. The farthest back setting or combat sight is equivalent to 300 because the Soviet doctrine was “aim at the belt buckle and all shots will be there or above” (ie purposefully create a hold under). If you’re wanting a more true to aim sighting solution, such as zeroing, you have to be on the “1” setting and make all other changes to the front post
it sort of does; relative to the sightline, at least... But because he conveyed it as the sight-line being pointed down...(I find that to be backwards and a bit confusing) it made it seem the bullet travels straight, which it never does. It immediately starts to drop down, relative to the barrel (gravity). But the barrel isn't pointed level and at the target - it's pointed up. So relative to the earth & sightline, the bullet goes up, first. Just like when you throw a pass. Said another (confusing way) The sightline, being perfectly straight and is what our eyes are looking along, means the barrel is actually pointing up and the bullet comes up to meet the sightline at 100 yards. In relation to where the barrel the bullet isn't rising, but in relation to the sightline, it is.
I’m trying to figure out if Lucas is shooting mediocrely on purpose or if he is just way better at shooting fast with moderate accuracy as opposed to shooting precisely.

Hello im practicing sight picture with my g19. In one of your videos of you teaching sight picture for rifles you said just look at your target and bring the red dot up. I run iron sights and it helps a lot I get I perfect a lot more and I just wanna thank you.
I do the same. quick zero then adjust as I shoot. all the time I usually need to re-adjust about 6 clicks. great vid thanks!
Or you can use a laser alignment tool, because it's the 21st century. And never have to shoot a single round.
@@m4rvinmartian cant believe none of us use it. What were we thinking.
Great video thanks, do you think a good set of binoculars would help?
Man knows how to use a weapon, but reverts to Cain and Abel days to slay a bee with a rock. Based.
😂
@TREXARMS stupid question, but do you need to re-zero the EOTech after a battery change?
Thanks
Zeroing Eotech holo, you might want to tap the optic lightly after making adjustments, or shoot one extra round before the actual grouping. My experience is that they need a bit of help for the adjustments to settle
Hahahahahahha😂😂😂 @early 10:00 the fly looked like some one was shoot at the target while he was explaining… it totally wigged me 😂😂😂😂
Why is no one talking about Lucas's literal perfect key hole at 13:52
Came looking for this lol. I think its because it's hard to notice. I had to rewind the video cause i thought he missed the target entirely 🤣
Will using the 25-yard zero technique also work with 7.62 x 39? I currently only have access to a 25-yard indoor range.
@@timunderbakke8756 I have an EO Tech mounted, but thank you for the into. I’ll check out that site.
I'm 4:30 into the video, and I'm really hoping he touches on the concept of the 36-yard zero.
I actually like the zeroing process.
Great content as always
Thanks Lucas. Good stuff.
Having a metric version of that target would be beautiful. Ie; 25m, 50m distances with the appropriately calibrated grid lines for click adjustments.
🇺🇸
Good information thanks
I’ll admit that I thought the projectile would rise before dropping
then Lucas proceeded to destroy my self esteem 😂
it sort of does; relative to the sightline, at least...
How much does your ride weigh by chance? Or average dressed? Thank you! Love the videos!
I dream about having a job like yours I've never been more fascinated with anything like firearms and safety
I would love to see you do a full review of the sig m400 tread rifle. And interested how you would build it
I’m trying to figure out if Lucas is shooting mediocrely on purpose or if he is just way better at shooting fast with moderate accuracy as opposed to shooting precisely.
Yup, perfect timing
