Very true, but the timer is only as good as your Mic, which for the most part isn't precise enough on phones and headsets. For dryfire, absolutely no difference. But live fire, the times are different from app to app, and you can even change your times by whole tenths of a second just by changing settings in the app. Shot timers are always worth it 🤙
Thank you for this video. I’ve been doing dry fires every day/night this last week and I feel so much more confident carrying them before. I never realized how much could be done with no ammo. I wish I would have discovered this channel long ago.

As always, very helpful. I've been doing dry-fire drills and some dry-fire from the couch everyday for the past 2 months and I can see a difference in my live-fire accuracy and handling.
Great Video! I've been using the laserlyte target for over a year now almost everyday and notice a huge difference in my shooting at the range. My confidence is solid and it shows at the range.
This is by far the best instructional video on dry fire methods I’ve seen in years. Awesome job young man! This is a great presentation For me as I transition from retirement from the Army to becoming a competitive shooter. Thank you!
At 21:59 the one handed reload (while covering a chest wound) is impressive. That RDO must be incredibly robust that it doesn't get damaged or out of alignment with the way you're always using it has a handle/lever during your drills.
My takeaway practice drills: Confirm gun is unloaded and all ammo is out of reach Set up 1" blue tape targets on wall Practice - Mag drop / reload - Good grip - from table, from holster - Good sight alignment - from ready position, from table - Good wall (wall of the trigger, no dry fire) - Good wall with dry fire then finger off trigger Add in drawing from holster - Lifting clothing - Repeat good grip, sight alignment, wall, wall & dry fire from above - Add timers - Add transition between targets - Add movement - Add mag drop / reload from table - Add mag drop / reload from belt Rinse and repeat several thousand times 😀

Also thank you for not being one of those guys who's like "dry fire in a different room than you store your ammo completely, or don't dry fire at all!" kinda hard to accomplish living in a studio apartment lol.
Awesome tips, I’m 72 and still proficient, but I can improve with these drills. I have a laser target system I’ve used before that shows on the target where the laser strikes the target. I have a G19X and a Taurus PT111 that has double strike capability. The benefit with the Taurus is I can place multiple shots on target and then run the reload drill. BTW I do carry a pistol every waking hour, 24/7/365 except for leap years!!!!
Great video! He talks and moves very fast so it's easy to miss. Before 'playing' with your gun, make darn sure your mags are empty and there isn't a round in the chamber. You may notice he repeatedly is checking both throughout his drills. Check, double check and triple check. Keep ammo and full mags in a separate room until you're done. Don't want people getting shot by 'unloaded' guns.
You sir are a teacher. A good teacher. I am impressed by how much information - even rudimentary information you pack into your presentation - as if it were the most important information anyone could obtain. Well done, and yes I learned a lot.
Wow, GREAT video! It's 2022 and, while ammo is coming back, it's not very cheap. With primers still very hard ($2000 for 5000 small pistol primers when available) to come by, reloading is out for now. I'm 67, retired and was wondering how I can keep my skills up then this video came up on my feed. Excellent suggestions and I have been putting targets on the back of my garage door, closing the door and practicing these drills most days. I have an adequate amount of ammo for now, but why waste it when I can advance my skills using the techniques Lucas has shown in this video. When I have gone to the range, I've noticed the advancement in my skills from my practice at home. Thank you for this video as I am more confident in protecting my family, home and preparing for the many threats that can come my way! 👍🏻

This video was really helpful! I plan on getting a G17 when I turn 21 this November so in the meantime I am practicing getting sight picture with my airsoft pistol!
Update. I am back at this video again for review. Ended up getting a Taurus G3 because it was basically a Glock 19 with a discrete physical safety (don't care about using it, but its just nice to have), a trigger that I like more, and ergonomics that fit my hands better. Did I mention it was like half the price of the Glock? So yea now I am dry fire practicing with this instead between range days each week.
You talk about a lot of things that most people in the industry never discuss. I've incorporated a lot of the things that you talk about, and it's tightened my groups, improved my sight acquisition, and decreased the time between follow up shots
This makes me feel better about “playing with my guns” I’m super careful bc I’ve already had a negligent discharge but I didn’t realize it counts as dry fire
Someone said sometime ago, there's only 3 types of gun enthusiasts: Those who had a negligent discharge, those who will and the lying ones... and yes if you do them properly, they will count as dry fire. Sort of... Ask me how I know.

In the app store is a shoot timer app
And works great!
I use one called "Splits".
Yap, i use one called "Splits". Works great.
I just downloaded it and I'll try it out on your recommendation! I also found a dry fire practice timer
Very true, but the timer is only as good as your Mic, which for the most part isn't precise enough on phones and headsets. For dryfire, absolutely no difference. But live fire, the times are different from app to app, and you can even change your times by whole tenths of a second just by changing settings in the app. Shot timers are always worth it 🤙
@@mckadehansen7352 that's true bro
Thank you for this video. I’ve been doing dry fires every day/night this last week and I feel so much more confident carrying them before. I never realized how much could be done with no ammo. I wish I would have discovered this channel long ago.
Lucas’ 6th slot passive = sleight of hand+
Lol
Add 'Amped' as well. He draws fast.
This is great stuff…I’m glad I found my video. There’s a ton of stuff I can work on without going to the range. Thanks 😊
I gotta say Mr Botkins, one video, How To Shoot in 10 Minutes, first video of yours I watched, I went to the range, fired my best 50 rounds, tightest pattern with my 9mm ever. I felt the confidence, the control, the left hand, both eyes open, it's a process and I am so glad I found this channel. This video just upp'ed my dry fire training game immensely.
I bought a Mantis X10 and it's probably one of the best things I bought, Idk how accurate it is but it makes dry firing so much more fun. It's actually got me to want to dryfire everyday twice a day if I can. I highly recommend it to anyone. Definitely will be dry firing all the way into 2021 lol
I've been taking classes with a guy who went over all of this almost exactly the same and it makes me feel good knowing I picked a good trainer
This is the exact start of my basic pistol class.
00:15:07
Lucas training shows when he habitually started to clear a malfunction when it didn't fire. Then the aimbot errorred out for a second when it reassessed what it was doing.
*Queue old school modem sound*
Happy to see that simply picking up my firearm to practice my grip and all this "playing" is something he talks about. Its something i do constantly daily. Whenever im able to be alone i practice my reload, grip, draw, and, most importantly for me since its my weak point, retaining sight picture while actually dry firing. A slight struggle for me with a double action revolver but getting better
Fantastic! I learned more in this video than in any of my private firearm classes. Well done. Can’t wait to incorporate these tips into my training!
I feel like this guy practices shooting in his sleep. It shows. He is so good.
G00N ٧ woah woah woah slow down. The fuck? This was a comment on his skill and the practice he has done. What’s with you throwing shade about personal relationships and you saying he done nothing worthwhile?
@G00N ٧ How is not being blinded, distracted, or having his wallet drained by a wet hole a bad thing? Lol, blue piller.
G00N ٧ your comment is a classic woman’s technique to shame and gaslight someone over something you know absolutely nothing of to cover up your inadequacy of the subject at hand. Unless evidence surfaces to prove otherwise, you must be a woman.
A lot of the major outlets are going to receive their ammuntion orders in September. I just hope prices drop back down. I don't even like going to the range anymore. Ammo is just way to expensive right now.
How do you know when they're going to receive the ammo?
That is why I bought a Ruger 10/22.
Now when I go to the range only go through 50-100 rounds of 9mm. The rest of the time I enjoy shooting my .22lr.
Most think ammo prices won’t go down til after the election. And if Biden wins, then add few extra months to that.
@@carsonhunt4642 If Biden wins every site will become Cheaper Than Dirt overnight and still be sold out within hours.
tackytrooper
I shouldn’t have said price, as I was only referring to demand. And yes correct, as we both agree, if he wins, demand will remain higher than ever for a few extra months.
Lucas, you are the real MVP Been watching for a long time and always appreciate your input, just as much as your aimbot skills. Hope you stay safe, stay strong brother!
This guy is a GREAT teacher. I feel bad for not being able to pay him for all the things he did to show us how to be better. The day I bought my first gun I found T.REX ARMS and because of him and everyone else in his team I became a great shooter. Everyday I do nothing but reps of everything. I even have a "shower" pistol and I practice in the shower, you may never know someone wants to break into your home and have a gun fight while you are taking a shower. T.REX ARMS love all the content. Thank you.
im trying to be confident in my handgun skills so when i am old enough to open carry in WA i will be confident and safe with my Glock 17 gen 5 with rubber talon grip and night sights
thank you so much iv been watching your content a ton helps a lot.
I’ve been sucking in my competition circuit, but haven’t been doing this. Thank you so much Lucas! This takes dry fire to the level I need!
This video is about to go insane again in a few months on election year. One of the first videos I’ve watched when I picked up firearms, thanks Lucas!
This is by far the best instructional video on dry fire methods I’ve seen in years. Awesome job young man! This is a great presentation For me as I transition from retirement from the Army to becoming a competitive shooter. Thank you!
Dude reminds me if Hiccup from "How to train your Dragon" got into guns instead of dragons lol.
😂😂😂
Another absolute BANGER from T.Rex arms. All my coworkers are gonna be so sick of hearing about you guys
At 21:59 the one handed reload (while covering a chest wound) is impressive. That RDO must be incredibly robust that it doesn't get damaged or out of alignment with the way you're always using it has a handle/lever during your drills.
My takeaway practice drills:
Confirm gun is unloaded and all ammo is out of reach
Set up 1" blue tape targets on wall
Practice
- Mag drop / reload
- Good grip - from table, from holster
- Good sight alignment - from ready position, from table
- Good wall (wall of the trigger, no dry fire)
- Good wall with dry fire then finger off trigger
Add in drawing from holster
- Lifting clothing
- Repeat good grip, sight alignment, wall, wall & dry fire from above
- Add timers
- Add transition between targets
- Add movement
- Add mag drop / reload from table
- Add mag drop / reload from belt
Rinse and repeat several thousand times 😀
You're movements are so smooth and crisp. This style of practice is really working for me too. Thank you.
“In the news today, we seem to be experiencing a shortage of painters tape. We do not know at this time what is causing this phenomenon.”
This made my day... thank you
Rebecca Kilmore no not racist but shows just how your president trump cares about the “his followers” he went and sold us out to China..ever seen the movies with Chris Hemsworth, Asian troops invaded the US..take a look at it..you will realize that “you alls” superiority complex makes no sense because your just like every other American and the government does not give two fucks about you..GOVERN ( to rule) Ment ( Means “mind” in Latin...tootles 😘
Post its work to.
This video is seriously crammed full of pearls. Wow.
Also thank you for not being one of those guys who's like "dry fire in a different room than you store your ammo completely, or don't dry fire at all!" kinda hard to accomplish living in a studio apartment lol.
Safety is important, but some gun owners/speakers are completely neurotic.
This is my new favorite channel and I appreciate all the drills to use at home to practice, perfect.
Love that you continuously check to make sure the gun is empty. Good habit to teach. My Dad always tells me to treat all weapons like they are loaded.
Knowledge is wealth, not many men give that out for free.-Thank You
Awesome tips, I’m 72 and still proficient, but I can improve with these drills.
His mag reload is so fast, the new magazine is in before the empty one hits the floor
Practice makes perfect. He practices what he preaches
Incredibly fast reload for sure.
I pop
In Germany I am not even allowed to leave the house with a folding knife that can be opened with one hand... 🤦♂️
Also Germany: Let anyone who claims to be a Syrian refugee into the country without a passport and without checking their luggage at least once when they cross the border.
Conclusion: The German government has a great sense of humor when it comes to security issues.
Sounds like you need to remove those currently in power
Move to Czech rep. or Slovakia then :)
Even foreign citizens with permanent residence can get firearm licence and then to carry, although I know only one who lives here for about 10 years already.
You guys went from one socialist, totalitarian chancellor laying waste to Europe, right to another.
I honestly fear for my family every time I think about the state of things back there.
Gotta love a country that started both world wars taking the morale high ground😒
Eeeeeehhhhh you lack a lotta info there. Germany wasn’t responsible... at all... but whatever.
Love this video! I’m new to shooting and this was incredibly helpful! Thank you. This guy knows his stuff! ❤️
Man I am 40 years old and purchased my first gun a few months ago. An AR-15. Yep that guy. The first time I shot I was hooked. Thanks for all of your help!
24 mins of great valuable content, no fluff straight to the point. You gained a new subscriber
When u we're talking about bringing ur finger off the trigger all I can see is john lovell screaming OFF AND ON!
Lucas putting instructors out of work.
Great instructional, easy to understand, very very helpful. Thanks my friend.
As a new gun owner, a good friend of mine who is a seasoned gun guy recommended me watch your videos, and I’m learning a lot! Thanks for the video, and a new subscriber!
Hands down Best dry fire video on the interwebs!!!
Lucas: *drinks reign as water gets heart attack*
*Reign has left the chat*
"Reign is indeed a valid substitute for water" Book of Lucas 11:17
This video was really helpful! I plan on getting a G17 when I turn 21 this November so in the meantime I am practicing getting sight picture with my airsoft pistol!
Update. I am back at this video again for review. Ended up getting a Taurus G3 because it was basically a Glock 19 with a discrete physical safety (don't care about using it, but its just nice to have), a trigger that I like more, and ergonomics that fit my hands better. Did I mention it was like half the price of the Glock?
So yea now I am dry fire practicing with this instead between range days each week.
I thought training with no ammo was called PUBG.
Also, "you wanna be a hot shot shooter? Put in the time." 👈 this is true.
Love your channel!
Nice to see your not just a one sided you tube snobs.and enjoy other folks channels..oh love your vids n breakdowns also. Thanks
Pretty fucking true cuz I never find ammo and get killed by someone every fucking time
Or Warzone if you aren't into bugs and stuff
After everithing I read in the comments, I have just one thing to say: THANK YOU LUCAS!
Press checking a bazillion times causes a huge scar and you will do it in times of stress bad idea
Someone said sometime ago, there's only 3 types of gun enthusiasts: Those who had a negligent discharge, those who will and the lying ones... and yes if you do them properly, they will count as dry fire. Sort of... Ask me how I know.
@Paul Revere Damn straight.
@Paul Revere You've yet to disprove the 2nd type; Those that will.
@Paul Revere in all fairness to his comment, he also included "those who will" lol
Lucas: “million, bajillion”
Me: Dudes legit
I’ve learned a lot on this channel. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge my brother 👊🏼
Best online training I've found. I needed refresher training and I learned more watching this video with your instructions than in person training I got years ago. Thank you! I'm sure that you have heard this before... You're an Awesome Instructor! I'll be watching your other videos and I will be sure to share. Keep doing You!
I’m hooked on Lucas’s videos. As a new pistol shooter I learn so much from him it’s crazy.
I would actually feel sorry for anyone that meets Lucas in a home invasion attempt; they wouldn't stand a chance.
Its like waiting on a new episode of your favorite show to drop
I know
Botkin 2032 Campaign Slogan: “I love tape as some of you may know”
Could be 2028, I don't know if he's 27 yet, but I agree with the sentiment.
One of the best videos this guy has put out
this guy may never been in combat before but he sure is a great teacher.
appreciate it.
