Mr. Sidney Poitier gave excellent performances in 1967 with “To Sir, with Love”, “In the Heat of the Night”, and “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” and didn’t get a single nomination.
I believe in equality, but I don't believe in double standards. Also, I don't believe Will Smith based on his actions should allow winning an Oscar either.
@Philip Moore a lot of times the stuff they nominate/give the awards to is pedestrian and only featured because it's content for an under-served audience 🤷🏾♂
Like the other guy said, that's more an indictment of the general world the Oscars exist inside than the Oscars themselves. Specifically because film & television were created by white people, and Hollywood/The Oscars exist in a country that's more than 70% non-black. Black people are not gonna represent even half of the nominees just numerically🤷🏿♂️It's the World's anti-blackness that's the problem. The American film industry is secondary to that as it falls under the heading of world institutions.
Wait. If Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield were *both* nominated for Best Supporting Actor in the *SAME* film, then who was the leading actor? Was it Jesse Plemons, or Martin Sheen? Both men where practically background characters.
You’re videos are all I have watched in the past two days. I’m so grateful that your video was recommend and definitely look forward to all your future content
I agree with the thought of awards not being as impactful as genuine representations of Black culture. It is nice to say one is a winner though, as shown throughout the video, the awards are steeped in whiteness. Thanks for another amazing video!
PLEASE PLEASE TALK ABOUT VIOLA DAVIS IS JUST GOOD AS MERYL. She literally was back and worth with Her for the Help vs Iron Lady. Both were deserving legends so I'm not upset she lost to Meryl. But in 2017 when she won for FENCES as SHE SHOULD HAVE. Tell me why she was put in the category fraud for Best Supporting Acrress WHEN SHE WAS CLWARLY A LEAD. Whats worse is that Emma Stone won Best Actress that year....Emma is nowhere near Violas League. That was injustice. Viola should've won for Best Actress and allowed AN ACTUAL supporting actress to have received an oscar.
Well African American racism has its own brand of hate it’s one of the reasons the black diaspora is so divided. The American experience is unique in the way they conceal overt oppression. We forget hitler took the blueprint for ww2 from how the USA handles black Americans now Germany went through a complete overhaul in reparations and changing ideologies to be what they are now, America has still to this day never done that or taken responsibility for the treatment of black Americans. In other words we deserve the reparations, my life is directly affected by slavery and prejudice.
I read qbout the training course blacks must attend so its ensured they act appropriately at the ceremony. I thought that is so wrong !!! I cant believe they are allpwed to do that !!!
Green Book was a great and truthful film about actual racism, not the nonsense Spike Lee peddled in Blackclansman (now, that was a movie with stereotypes!) Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" was a great movie about racism, but he has become an extremist in his later years. The hate that Green Book got was shameful and stupid.
What is the percentage of black actors overall? Besides even if black actors % was same as their population percentage, there’s not a rule that says that the academy is obliged to give them Oscars just for being black. Same goes to everything else be it policemen, doctors, CEOs or whatever. In the year of 12 Years a Slave, as soon as I saw the clip for best supporting actress, I knew Lupita Nyongo was the winner. She was simply phenomenal. But when they showed the clips for best actor, I said, if this one doesn’t gone to Mathew McConaughey, the Oscar’s are a joke. No matter how good the actor for 12YAS was, MMac was the best. Period.

Please do this with Black Actresses as well, and Black creatives in writing directing and songwriting. You’re so good at this.

That took guts for Kim Basinger to do.
That was back before that shit was a popular thing in Hollywood too
Especially from her given she suffers from stage fright 😮
Anne Bancroft’s smile as she announces Sidney Poitier is all you need to know how historical that moment was

I know we have our own Black award shows but unfortunately a lot of them aren’t respected by these celebrities & the media.

Yep
@@SurgeryIsWoke can you elaborate on that lol
Something else: BIPOC actors are usually relegated to supporting categories since their chances of winning are much better than in leading categories
The Oscars famously have always been anti black I'm not sure if black Entertainers should be looking to them for meagre handouts
This is most institutions though

Exactly

The most likely were nominated for supporting roles because they had a high chance wining (being black) as opposed to being nominated for a lead role.
They're really co-leads. It's even in the title 🤭
Okay Kim Basinger!

Well, Will Smith ruined his historical moment when slapping Chris Rock onstage to please Jada Pinkett and showing he couldn't control his emotions.
I'd love to see an update to this since Will Smith's Oscar Win.
They took it back. So nothing changes…
How do you edit these videos? And with voice over? I want to do podcast.
Did Samuel L win one?
He received an honorary Academy Award this year.
He did win an honorary Oscar award but Will Smith's slapping Chris Rock tainted the whole event.
