The genuine humility that just shines through when Jamie speaks, especially about his grandmother, is why this is one of my all time favorite Oscar speeches. He never forgot his roots and where he came from, I love people like that because I came from nothing myself, grew up dirt poor on food stamps and welfare, raised in a trailer park by a single mom and now I have a successful career doing a job that I love. I never forgot my own roots, that I came from the trailer park yet my mom raised me and my brother to carry ourselves with integrity wherever we go so that the world will see that not all trailer park people are trashy and crass. Thank you Mr. Foxx for respecting your grandmother and her lesssons by how you carry yourself. ❤
Still can't believe people miss that dead on Sidney Poitier impersonation at 3:30...Jamie nailed that. And of course, "I just see Oprah, I just see Halle, I just wanna say your names".
Manu you are probably the only other person that spotted Oprah jumping up and down in that quick scene!!!!! I saw that the night he won!!!! Spike Lee and his wife showed up as well.
Honestly, his performance in Ray is the greatest biopic performance ever. If anyone contests this, please comment what you think is better. This is obviously just my opinion
I REALLY like how Val Kilmer played and looked like Jim Morrison in The Doors, but I think Jamie was Ray. He got it down in that movie, you're seeing Ray in that movie, it's a mesmerizing performance!
Well mine is Daniel Day Lewis - My Left Foot Jamie Foxx - Ray Robert De Niro - Raging Bull Helen Mirren - The Queen George C. Scott - Patton These lists are opinions btw the way. Not Facts. So the whole "learn film and acting moron" is beyond unnecessary. Almost mistook you for a troll
It was unbelievable how incredibly well Jsmie Foxx played Ray Charles. He had to have his eyes closed the whole time to stay in character and he trained so hard to look and sound like Ray and he pulled it off outstandingly. When I listened to both of them singing "Georgia on my mind" back to back, I was shocked to find seemingly no difference between their voices. Even his expressions and body movements were spot on. Congratulations Jaime, your performance will carry on Ray Charles' memory for generations! :)
Oh, really? That's interesting because one of the special features on the dvd showed Ray Charles performing "Georgia" at a concert and then Jamie Fox performing it in the movie and I thought they were comparing the similarity in their voices. Guess I was wrong haha! He still did an amazing job on the acting though. :)
Monkeystaxx Route 66, Straighten Up and Fly Right,(were sung by Jamie Foxx) and I Got a Woman, Mary Ann, and Hit the Road Jack were also sung by Jamie but with the help of Ray's original tracks!! And yes, you are right, he gave one hell of a performance!!!
Oprah had a planned intervention for Jamie when his life was getting out of control, it was Sidney Poitier's birthday, he changed his life around after that, he touched on it briefly here.
To see a talented man like Jamie Foxx who can sing, dance, act, tell one hell of a joke, and impersonate just about ANYBODY win this was a great achievement.
This Jamie Foxx Academy Award Win moved me beyond words. Before my mother took her five children out in public she always said "Act like you got some sense"! Tears are rolling down my face as I share with all of you. And Jamie, my my my, my, my! Needless to say you nailed this role. You've done both the acting community and the African American community proud.May God continue to bless you and yours.
I note that he brought his daughter as his "date" for the evening. What a thrill for that young lady. And what a wonderfully family-oriented thing to do.
crandolph3319 i really thought back then that they were gonna get married. Her and Bar Rafaeli are probably the two women he stayed with longest and who fit his way of life like caring for the environment and things like that. Him and gisele were one of my fave celeb couples in middle school. You could tell they were really in love.
+mavimus 8 the last scene was when Ray was awarded the key to Georgia after he was banned from performing there after he refused to play for a segregated audience during the Civil Rights Movement! I think his wife says "If only your mother was here." and Ray says "She's here. She ain't ever left" I swear that parts gets me every time
Yeah, if there was no Jamie Fox's movie, Don would've got the oscar. Better performance than the aviator and finding never land (i didn't saw Million dollar baby so i don't know abt it)
Jamie Foxx made Ray Charles come to life in that movie. He owned Ray Charles character. He was exceptional in that movie, and without a doubt he deserved that Oscar. He would have been cheated if he had not won that Oscar.
An Oscar well deserved, couldnt have seen anyone else playing Ray. You know that you are the best when you out shine the ones that was nominated with you.
After I say "Ray", I walked out of that theater, spellbound. I could just see Jamie Foxx, standing on a stage, in a tux, and holding a Oscar. He and Ray worked together, and I was happy that Ray heard the soundtrack before his death. I only recently found out that the song "Ray's Rockhouse" was about him
What a guy.. and actor Jamie is!! This left me in tears. In my opinion, no other could have portrayed Ray Charles as well as Jamie did. He truly deserved that oscar!
@@ellarose423 I disagree. I personally wasn't a fan. I thought that it was fine. Definitely not better than Foxx. Personally I would have preferred Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine and Paul Giamatti in Sideways over DiCaprio in Aviator. The only Oscar I feel Leo actually should have won and deserved it would have been the one for Django Unchained instead of Christoph Waltz. And I would have given his Revenant award to Fassbender or Redmayne.
@@Izaan2810 well, your right edmayne and fass were great in their movies but I don't belive they were better than Leo's revenant though I would agree that the revenant was not exactly his most deserving oscar on the aspect of ACTING. I mean looking at strenuous activity then yes but no purely acting. I still belive he deserved aviator, he was too good in that movie. One of his most difficult roles, not many actors can act movies that tell a real life story not to now talk of when that character has OCD. Thats one of the most difficult things definitely and leo left no stone unturned. He absolutely bodied his aviator role. I also belive leo was robbed for whats eating gilbert grape and yes django unchained too! Imagine he wasn't even nominated, he definitely deserved it over waltz for sure
@@ellarose423I agree with his performance in Django Unchained though. For his performance in Gilbert Grape, I would have rooted for him any other day just not that year because Ralph Fiennes in Schindler's List was just a fucking MONSTER and Val Kilmer a fucking BEAST in Tombstone. Like arguably the greatest villainous portrayal ever. Like not only was he the best supporting actor of that year, I would argue that he was indeed the best supporting performance of the entire 90s decade. So really unfortunate for Leo to go against him that year. I really Denzel in Philadelphia as well. For the year Leo won for Revenant, Fassbender was just way way solid in his roles in my opinion as well as many even better performances that didn't get nominated. Looking back Fassbender was just incredible. People didn't get it back then but now most do. I would have let Tom Hardy win for his performance in Legend 2015.
@Ab Well that's the thing! I am an actor here. And I tell you that DiCaprio absolutely failed to embody his character by every means possible. Technically, Don Cheadle was by far the best actor in all the lineup. His performance in Hotel Rwanda was absolutely a powerhouse performance, superior to all by a country mile and I felt was the only one who deserved to get nominated. I have changed my opinion on Foxx' performance as well in these few weeks/months after watching Ray recently. Not that impressed by him either. Bruno Ganz for Downfall or Jim Carrey for Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind would have been the overall Oscar winners in my book regardless. Howard Hughes was a really complex character. DiCaprio was DiCaprio here for the most movie. DiCaprio failed to imitate him without coming off stiff and overacting for most part.
Not only is Jamie Foxx one of the most talented, actor, entertainers in American history, but he gave the most heartwarming acceptance speech I’ve ever heard. So proud.
Charlize presented it because she won the previous year. That’s how it works: the Best Actress winner from last year presents the Best Actor award for this year, and Vice versa; same goes for the supporting categories.
Anyone that has seen the movie "Ray" knows that he was well deserving of this award. His absolute brilliance of portraying Ray Charles's life and how he came about was just astonishing. His acting in the role of Ray Charles was in my eyes, the greatest acting of all-time. I don't care what anyone thinks of my opinion, because his acting left a mark in my heart for the most influential artist who've ever came about. I know it's been over a decade now Jamie, but I still have to acknowledge the talent and the brilliance in which you put into the movie. And to that I say thank you. This award, still to this day was the greatest award handed out to an actor in a leading role.
I agree fully! This was the movie that made me realize just how multi-talented Mr. Jamie Foxx is. He can do everything from singing a George Strait song (to him) to meeting & portraying, heck not portraying, becoming Ray Charles! Sadly, I didn't see Ray until this past yr when I purchased a Jamie Foxx DVD collection. That along with his performance as the homeless street performer (the title escapes me at the moment), sealed the deal of me being a life long fan!
I can’t help crying when I see this speech. My mom talks to me in my dreams too and It’s been a while but it surprised me to see someone else thinking the same. It was comforting in a way.
What everyone may forget about this award and why he was uniquely deserving is that he was also nominated as Best Supporting Actor for Collateral a different kind of film along with Tom Cruise which also showed his immense versatility in the same acting calendar year. If not for Morgan Freeman's performance in Million Dollar Baby Foxx would have won that as well.
Well deserved. I cry every time I see this video because he talks about his grandmother, I miss my granny so much. They are the glue to the family. Rip Mrs Elsie Mapp

He is excellent at what he does. Truly talented. Everyone loves Ray but I always loved Django Unchained.
Sellout since the start. U dont just “ End” up here
One of the BEST acceptance speechs i have ever heard. He IS so wonderful.
This is one of the most beautiful Oscar speeches. It's so clear how much this meant to him and he communicated that so gracefully. What a legend.
Look at that smile from Jay Z. That's luv man
Yes loved that! "Murder to excellence" kept playing in my mind lol
I think that is one of, if not the most underrated sofefull hiphop songs of the past 10 years...
Nnaemeka Opara Fuck Jay Z

Anyone who said Jamie didn't deserve this is Crazy!!!! He embodied Ray Charles in the purest way it was almost scary
That was BY FAR the most beautiful Oscar speech ever.
Now THAT'S a speech!
You AIN'T kidding!
NO I'm not!
Eye2EyeIIIV
How is Django trash?!
I love this thread lmfao
Even now in 2020, I still get emotional from that speech
crying in 2023 December 16th
Still can't believe people miss that dead on Sidney Poitier impersonation at 3:30...Jamie nailed that. And of course, "I just see Oprah, I just see Halle, I just wanna say your names".
Manu you are probably the only other person that spotted Oprah jumping up and down in that quick scene!!!!! I saw that the night he won!!!! Spike Lee and his wife showed up as well.
Manu loved his impersonation of Sidney and yes he nailed on the spot as you said!!!!!
Manu Ginobilis Bald Spot 😄😄😄
Best Oscar acceptance speech EVER! He didn’t need to shout or wild out. Just spoke from the heart!
This is one of the most moving Oscar speeches ever. He TOTALLY deserved this award, too. He was brilliant as Ray Charles.
This still remains as one of the most well deserved Oscar wins ever.
Marion Cotillard in La Vie en Rose was brilliant as well
Care to provide examples of what you think is better?
Well mine is
Daniel Day Lewis - My Left Foot
Jamie Foxx - Ray
Robert De Niro - Raging Bull
Helen Mirren - The Queen
George C. Scott - Patton
These lists are opinions btw the way. Not Facts. So the whole "learn film and acting moron" is beyond unnecessary. Almost mistook you for a troll
+Paul Kamin Really not a movie guy so this is a question: Denzel Washington as Malcolm X wasn't top 5 worthy?
Jamie Foxx didn't actually do the singing...
I just see Oprah, I see Halle... I just wanna say your names
😂😂😂😂😂
Destined Queen Oprah was jumping up and down as if she won the Oscar.
Oprah had a planned intervention for Jamie when his life was getting out of control, it was Sidney Poitier's birthday, he changed his life around after that, he touched on it briefly here.
They stood out in a sea of whiteness 😂🤣
Halle is fineeeee damn 🥰
Robin Williams at 1:35 made me tear up 😢 May he Rest In Peace
One of the best and most memorable speeches in Oscar history. Jamie was genuine, heartfelt and very touching.
Whoa...totally forgot Gisele was with DiCaprio.
+crandolph3319 i thought the same thing ;0
Tom Brady, knocked up Bridget Monahahn. Then dated Giselle.
Lol thats what I was thinking
Pretty sure he was the one who got away. The love of her life.
crandolph3319 i really thought back then that they were gonna get married. Her and Bar Rafaeli are probably the two women he stayed with longest and who fit his way of life like caring for the environment and things like that. Him and gisele were one of my fave celeb couples in middle school. You could tell they were really in love.
His daughter's excitement ^_^
when you see the last scene from "Ray" you understand why he won an oscar
What was the last scene?
I've forgotten; I haven't seen Ray in a long time
Mhamed Benouissa I dont think there was one scene above the other that defined Jamie's role as Ray he just nailed it the entire movie.
+mavimus 8 the last scene was when Ray was awarded the key to Georgia after he was banned from performing there after he refused to play for a segregated audience during the Civil Rights Movement! I think his wife says "If only your mother was here." and Ray says "She's here. She ain't ever left" I swear that parts gets me every time
Jamie lived His part as Ray - great!
yes. the ENTIRE movie. brilliant!!
This was so predictable. He was the BEST that year. ICONIC transformation into Ray Charles.
They should ALWAYS show clips of the performances!!!
This speech is everything. Well deserved Mr. Foxx !
+Ayysia Dansby Well said. His performance in Ray is how I became a fan of him even I've not seen every movie he's ever done since his win.
Let's be real...to the haters.....Jamie killed that bio-flick of Ray...pure and simple!!!
RIP Ray Charles (September 23, 1930 - June 10, 2004), aged 73
You will always be remembered as a legend.
Jamie Foxx in Ray is still one of the greatest performances I have ever seen.
he dedicate his oscar to his grandma, that was beautiful...
I love the reaction of people. The love for his Grandma and especially His daughter. I mean the tear in his eyes. He remembers her completely.
To be honest,he deserves an other oscar on that speech too
The nominees 😱 This year was a legendary one
Anyone else surprised when they saw Jay Z?
+KingQuaye1999 Yes she performed 3 of the Best song nominees including Believe with Josh Groban from the Polar Express
KingQuaye They weren’t together yet tho
Tobie Olson Yes they were..they got together after Bonnie & Clyde 2002
Ware Production No before that. Lmao they were already a couple during 03 bonnie and Clyde.
maybe - He makes film-music! or He want to be there - You can buy cards! or You´re invited!
Don Cheadle deserves some kind of premio for Hotel Rwanda, incredible performance
The guy from iron man ?
Maul yes
Yeah, if there was no Jamie Fox's movie, Don would've got the oscar. Better performance than the aviator and finding never land (i didn't saw Million dollar baby so i don't know abt it)
@@maul8384 He’s not just that guy from Iron man dude.
It was a though year. All nominees were A listers.
Jamie Foxx made Ray Charles come to life in that movie. He owned Ray Charles character. He was exceptional in that movie, and without a doubt he deserved that Oscar. He would have been cheated if he had not won that Oscar.
+Thomasine Alexander I knew leading to Oscar night 11 years ago he would triumph and take home the golden statue.
An Oscar well deserved, couldnt have seen anyone else playing Ray. You know that you are the best when you out shine the ones that was nominated with you.
Jamie and Halle are two of my favorite speeches. So touching and powerful.
Do they give oscars for best oscar winning speeches? Cuz damn that minute speech was filled with emotions.
After I say "Ray", I walked out of that theater, spellbound. I could just see Jamie Foxx, standing on a stage, in a tux, and holding a Oscar. He and Ray worked together, and I was happy that Ray heard the soundtrack before his death. I only recently found out that the song "Ray's Rockhouse" was about him
This is a proud moment. Jamie Foxx did such a wonderful job. The film is what it is due to this performance. I wish Mr. Charles could have seen it.
"Act like you have been somewhere."
What a guy.. and actor Jamie is!! This left me in tears. In my opinion, no other could have portrayed Ray Charles as well as Jamie did. He truly deserved that oscar!
That final line gives me goosebumps every time I listen to this speech.
This very award solidified him as a legend.
Yes facts
Eastwood and Leo were both amazing. But Foxx deserved that Oscar. He BECAME Ray Charles
Leo became the actor he portrayed too
@@ellarose423 I disagree.
When the other nominees give you a real applaus from their heart you finally really made it.
Jamie Foxx is the man.
Not only is Jamie Foxx one of the most talented, actor, entertainers in American history, but he gave the most heartwarming acceptance speech I’ve ever heard. So proud.
Charlize Theron presenting you the academy award doesn't get any better...well done.
Cashflow is Contagious! Jaime Fox was probably thinking "I love my life!" As he walked on stage.
Charlize presented it because she won the previous year. That’s how it works: the Best Actress winner from last year presents the Best Actor award for this year, and Vice versa; same goes for the supporting categories.
Cashflow is Contagious! She is so beautiful!
I just love her
She's fucking beyond beautiful
This year was historic since all five actors were nominated for playing real people.
She talks to me in my dreams!! 😭 I totally relate. Jamie is one of the most talented people in the business. Well deserved 👏
This acceptance speech made me cry.
that speech gets me everytime.
This guy does not age!?
Sick Dece black don't crack
Jordan he does not at all!!
It's only been 16 years. Black don't crack until about 82.
Black privilege
neuerntzer neuernutzer *melanin
I can’t help crying when I see this speech. My mom talks to me in my dreams too and It’s been a while but it surprised me to see someone else thinking the same. It was comforting in a way.
being ray was jamie foxx best performance yet and he well deserved that oscar
What everyone may forget about this award and why he was uniquely deserving is that he was also nominated as Best Supporting Actor for Collateral a different kind of film along with Tom Cruise which also showed his immense versatility in the same acting calendar year. If not for Morgan Freeman's performance in Million Dollar Baby Foxx would have won that as well.
1:36.
Really heart-breaking seeing Robin William there...
Its Williams
That was the greatest Oscar speech I’ve ever heard. I wish I heard it sooner. Love this dude
Ray was hands down one of the best biography movie
Top 3
@@Destinyk775 what are the other 2
pacman la vie en rose has to be one!
I knew Jamie Foxx was a good actor but I've gained serious respect for him though this speech. He deserved it.
I used to think Jamie Foxx would never be able to live down "Wanda" from "In Living Color". Boy, was I wrong!
"...Rock that world."
Morgan Freeman and Jaime Foxx won the same year! What an incredible year for the Oscars
I haved watched this clip hundreds of times over the years & never get tired of it, best Oscar speech ever.
Robin Williams 1:36 RIP
Well deserved. I cry every time I see this video because he talks about his grandmother, I miss my granny so much. They are the glue to the family. Rip Mrs Elsie Mapp
