ForScore was recommended to me by different friends, but I only recently started using it full time. I really appreciate not having to deal with sheet music anymore, but I needed a wee briefing on it's various functions. Thank you very much! Now I need to go buy a larger iPad! 🤣
So dang cool I searched for how to do something in Forscore and one of my college classmates is the top result. Great job. I didn't see my particular issue, rotating a score 90 degrees (someone scanned the PDF oddly). Turns out you pointing me towards the toolbox had me poke around until I found the rotation under "Rearrange". Still a fantastic video and I learned plenty.
Thanks Josh great video, seems like there’s a lot of cool features I can utilize in the future. But for now I’m just using the basics like using horizontal mode.. It’s kinda odd that they hid the settings menu somewhere not obvious lol… anyways thanks man!
Yes! Here's a link to learn more: forscore.co/kb/replay/ Setup your "Replay Mode" (the curving single arrow button with a paired audio file) to set where the page turns are with the audio file, and in the future it will automatically scroll when playing that audio!
Thanks for the suggestions and help. I have a problem using finger taps to turn pages. Sometimes the tablet goes blank and off when I tap the screen. Happened shortly after I started using during a service and now scared to use during church. I do have the gestures, but sometimes I still tap for page turns.(Haven't broke the habit of licking the finger before the page turn!) Not sure if this is a from Apple of ForScore. Thanks for any help.
Sorry to hear that! That’s quite frustrating. To help, are you using Performance Mode? That prevents you from seeing the tool bar (which avoid accidentally opening that when you meant to turn a page during a performance). Or in forScore’s settings, do you have Auto-Lock turned OFF? This overrides the iPads sleep function. Keeping this OFF will keep the screen on whenever forScore is open.
Question--sorry if I missed it--I play a lot of big band charts (bassist), so they're often 3-4 pages. When the chart has a D.S. (del segno) and a coda--how do I jump from say page 4 where the DS is indicated, back to page 1 at the sign, then jump from maybe page 2 or 3 to the coda on page 4? I like the security of the paper chart, but this tool seems far superior for library management when there are 300-ish charts in the book. thanks.
Two ways. One, you can use Links (go to Settings>Links) to set up places to jump in the score. The Blue circle (left) will take you to the Orange circle (right) when you tap on it while reading. My preferred way is to use the Rearrange tool to duplicate all the pages needed so I only ever have to turn the page to the right. That way instead of going 'back' to the Sign or Coda, you only need to continually turn to the right. I then annotate to show where to go on the page so its obvious every time.
This was a great video. I picked up many ideas. I do have a question for you. It has to do with attaching Apple Music files to forScore. It doesn't work anymore. Suggestions for a workaround? Thanks and keep up the great videos!
Hmm... That is a mystery. When I tap on my + icon (when in the Audio pane of the Properties panel), it still opens up Apple Music for me. Could it be something with your Apple Music? Or if you have the mp3's, you could use the icon to the right of the + (the icon looks like a paper with a small + on it) to add the file to your forScore file once you've added it (shared it) to forScore. Would that work?
Hi. Thanks for the vids. Is it possible to continuously notate a score while turning pages ? I want to annotate music as I’m listening to my students sing songs with multiple pages. I can’t seem to do this. Thanks.
Yes! It's not the most intuitive and takes a second longer than regular page turns, but it is possible. While in annotation mode, in the top right of the annotation bar, there is a Left arrow , and the check mark to indicate you're finished. Those < and > symbols are to turn the page left or right. Hope that helps!
Hello Mr Ring, thanks for all these awesome tips and tricks! Do you know of a good tuner overlay app? I like the ForScore tuner but I can’t seem to move it or undock or even make it smaller. I’m a trumpet player and each note can have its own challenges.
As a brass player too, I completely understand and symphatize. I don't have a specific one I love more than any other. Here's a list of some good ones you might try: www.soundbrenner.com/blog/keep-your-groove-in-tune-5-best-tuning-apps/ I personally use a tuner on my phone so forScore can be all sheet music when needing that.
Actually, I just found this one. You may like this one for the instant feedback and you can see your deviation in real time, but it may be a bit annoying for how constant it moves around... apps.apple.com/us/app/tuner-t1/id453056916
Thanks Josh for walking through your settings. I've changed most of mine to align to your experience. I am having one problem. If you can assist, I would appreciate it. When I open a score and tap in the center, the Control Panel (showing blue icons for Scores, Bookmarks, Set lists, Search, Audio utilities, and tools) "should" appear. It does not appear on mine. It did appear, but no more and I am mystified. What I see, rather than the Control Panel, is in the upper right corner a blue square with a vertical line going through the square. The name of the score is to the right of the blue square. If I tap on the blue square, two panels from the left appear. One panel is My Library, and the second is Now Playing. In the My Library panel, there is ellipse in a circle, and tapping on it reveals Libraries, Refresh, Dashboard, Backup, Synch, Support, and Settings. I used Setting to make my changes align with yours. On this blue square page, there are two icons on the top right side. One is a down arrow in a circle and the second is a gear icon. When the down arrow is tapped, six options appear (New window, Annotate, Links, Buttons, Rearrange, and Crop). The gear icon shows display mode and options. The Control Panel has evaporated. Do you have a clue on how I can restore the Control Panel? Thank you.
I am also mystified... I've never heard of that happening before. One question: Do you have the forScore Pro account? I'll do some searching for you and see what I can come up with.
@@Josh-Ring Hi, I am glad I am not the only one mystified. I do have a Pro account. I submitted a ticket to them, several days ago and have not heard from them. Thanks for your attempts. I am looking forward to your next video posts!
Hi Josh, you were kind enough to help me and I submitted my question to foreshore tech support. Here’s what they said. I followed their recommendation and all is good. ‘It sounds like you are viewing a secondary app window. To close the window, tap the three dots at the top center of the screen and choose Close Window, or swipe the window away in multitasking mode, then tap the forScore app icon again to open the primary window. Using Multiple Windows {link}
The main Tool Bar is not available on my Ipad....I have a revised Tool Bar that does not include many of the features of the Main Tool Bar....How do I get the right Tool Bar?
It sounds like you might have a second window open in forScore, and you're currently only viewing that secondary window. On your iPad, at the very top center of the screen, do you see three horizontal dots? Tap those, and at the bottom of the screen you should now see a few rectangle boxes, with the right most one being "New Window" with a "+" sign in it. If you have accidentally tapped on the "+" before, you'll have more than two boxes. To close any secondary windows you can either tap and hold on a box and swipe up until the box floats away, or you can close out the app (restart the app) and it will only open with the primary window. forscore.co/kb/using-multiple-windows/ Hope that helps!
Hi! I have one question.
