iPad for Musicians: forScore, Andante, and More

- I've been waiting for the next iteration of the iPad Pro (2021) to finally pick one up and it is incredible. No more trying to hold down pages with clothespins or giant binders full of music. No more awkward page turns. Tablets are changing the game for musicians.
I'll still be keeping paper copies on hand just in case something goes wrong before a performance.
This video was actually made several months ago right before I moved across the country. The chaos of moving took priority and I just recently stumbled across it again. Nonetheless, I think it's still worth putting out there even if the data is a little bit dated at this point. I hope you enjoy!

I can't believe there is STILL not a single tablet out there to replace full sized standard 2 PAGE music texts in either portrait or landscape format.
the idea of a music and technology channel seems so cool bc of this video :) very informative, thanks!
This is the video I am looking for ! Thanks for posting it and please keep doing
Well made video. Precise and to the point, just how I like it.
Great quality video, man! I hope you make the best of being a saxophone player in the us of a and at least alternate between jazz and classical. When you showed the Glazunov concerto it was heartbreaking for a bit, knowing that you live in Coltrane world. If only Glazunov would have known 🤔
While you don’t need the iPad Pro, the larger screen is great for live use.
this video has helped me immensely while i am in the middle of deciding whether i need an iPad or not. thanks a lot!
very helpful video! thanks for the info and good luck in your musical journey
a useful video! you are humorous with your deadpan expression!
The scanning of music is where the ipad really shines. 👌
Well done! Thank you!
GREAT review, and well done. Nice electrical tape mod.!
Thanks so much for this. Do you know a scanner app to scan your music btw?
This video is really helpful. Thank you!
2:37 - you can mask the light with masking tape. Use black tape. And done.
What about distractions?
Black nail varnish will darken that blue LED.
How do you scan your sheets? What app would you recommend?

Just saw your video on iPad. I’m thinking about getting one, but was told to get as much ram (64gb) and 2-4 TBs if possible. I studying Score writing and film composing and can’t afford a MacBook Pro M1. What do you think about the ram and tb? Hot I hear from you. Thank you for sharing.
64gb of ram is absolutely overkill unless you're doing heavy 4k video editing
Do you know if you can annotate drums on this app?
Good vid .
If you have a laptop already why would an iPad be appealing? Thanks 😊 greetings from Scotland 🏴
Ipad can go onto a music stand. I laptop is much bigger
🖖🏼bien
Lol early access does not mean it will become free my man! If anything it means it will cost more once beta is market ready
Put a piece of tape over it.
It’s like the iPod scam… Carry all your music never mind that you don’t need 95% of it. Then we have to carry some foot pedal and worry about batteries… no way. what if you drop it by accident or spill something in the pedal ? Do drink the kool aid! Maybe it’s good as a music gadget for composing and techs but useless as a professional tool.
Sooo, what do you play? I’m really thinking about buying a large iPad for replacing my music binders. I was having thoughts like you…not relying on tech, what if something happened, etc….but I do use a lot of music for gigging and the notebooks are becoming burdensome. Also having an external backup makes sense if something does happen. Ive seen and talked with so many musicians who have gone this route and love the idea. It’s very tempting! No need for a stand lights/batteries and no more bags of music. Besides toting around a pedal harp, I also need to carry a harp bench, stand, stand light, batteries, tuner, tuning key, and a tote for extra strings. Stuff happens when you play an instrument, and if there is something that can reduce the load, I’ll be checking it out. I’m not all that into the foot pedal. I’m pretty quick at turning my own pages. I guess it’s all down to how much can this really help you out! 😊💕🎶
It’s far from “useless as a professional tool.” A lot of professional, performing musicians have switched over to using tablets for sheet music. If you scroll through videos of recitals and masterclasses these days, a surprising amount of the musicians aren’t going to be using physical scores. The tablets certainly aren’t for everyone, but they’ve won a lot of people over!
It’s a fantastic professional tool, especially for musicians. And besides, electronic devices-equipment are used for all kinds of musical professions and one of the risks of using them - albeit low - are glitches and, at worse, failure.
But the benefits far, FAR outweigh the risks. Even if you prefer using music books, sheet music, etc, how much of that do you actually play?
Also, forScore lets you page turn using gestures if you want to go there but even if you use a pedal, so what? Electric guitarists use them too.
I can go on and on but the point is that it isn’t a “scam”. It has real world applications in the music industry, as well as every other aspect of life.
@@housepianist Thank you, housepainter! 💕🎶
@@paigegarrison6721 classical guitar solos and duos. Making copies is a pain but I can layout 3 pages. iPad Pro is heavy and the screen is so small. It’s almost good but I’m sticking to paper until they make a 20 inch or greater iPad.
So ein Schmarren, als ob jeder das englisch beherrschen sollte. 😝
