A true masterpiece, the entire show was magical but this is definitely one of the highlights. Simone started classical training aged 16.5 and joined Epica at 17 so basically learned on the job. The transformation in her voice from the early beginnings to now are jaw dropping.
Simone has had years of classical singing training and over the years perfected her instrument. Her voice touches me to my core, its sweet and delicate but also powerful.
When Mark Jansen founded Epica in 2002 he needed a singer and he asked his then girlfriend Simone. She said no. When another singer didn't work out he asked her again. This time she said yes. And so it came to be that Simone Simons at only 17 years old and still in highschool became the lead singer of Epica. At that time she had already been taking private classical and pop singing lessons for some years. But she had never been on a stage before :)
Great reaction to one of my favorite Epica songs. Inspired by the dark German fairytale about the Alder King or Erlking who steals the souls of children who linger to long in the woods by killing them with a single touch. The male voice here is the evil enchanter trying to lure the young traveler to his side with promises of power and tender care by his daughters. Simone has said the song is symbolic of being stuck in a life without a happy ending and how our innocence is taken away from us as soon as we are born. Love the guitar and piano intro here. On teh album it is all orchestral. Super cool that Issac is playing a seven string Les Paul. Extremely rare to see a metal guy playing a Les Paul and even more rare that it is a seven string.
I have been listening to Epica and Nightwish for many years and I have listened to the entire discography of both bands and I will say that they have a lot of differences, each band has its own distinctive style. In Epica you will hear a lot of choirs, cinematic orchestrations, which gives them their own distinctive epic sound, which further enhances the contrast of beautiful female vocals and growling (this combination also has its own name, the "beauty and the beast" style). Epica are much more diverse in their sound than Nightwish, you will hear everything from jazz to black metal. And yes, they are often heavier and more progressive (just watch "Kingdom of heaven part 3" from the Omrga alive show and you will understand what this band is really about). And, unlike Nightwish, they have played more than one concert with a full orchestra and choir on stage (two of which were played last week and there is already a recording of this amazing show on TH-cam), and Nightwish have never done this before.
Omega Alive was the 2021 virtual concert, done when they couldn't tour due to restrictions. an intro and 14 songs, recorded over 5 days and streamed online at one time. Love the slow build on this song. It's from the 2016 7th album, The Holographic Principle, lyrics by Simone, music by keyboardist Coen Janssen. Inspired by a dark German story about the Alder King, who steals children's souls. Yeah, Simone has a great voice, and their ballads are just beautiful. the ballad "Rivers" was played just before this song, and done acapella with a choir. This entire show is worth checking out, try "The Skeleton Key" and "Kingdom of Heaven Part 3" from here. And that song that came up when you opened their home page is "Code of Life' live in Amsterdam 2023, at AFAS Live.
The concert this is from was recorded over multiple days, during covid. Epica had already been streaming concerts for a while, and wanted to do something special. That said, it was still performed live, with some backing tracks like at their regular concerts. This combined with Unleashed, should be enough to let you know, that Epica are absolutely a band that should be experienced live
Your Epica playlist says there are 2 songs hidden. I don't know if it is something that only happens to me, or there are some restrictions u.u Nightwish and Epica are my favorite 2 bands of all time with almost 20 years in my heart (I'm 32, it was a very young discovery) Great reactions!!! ❤ Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱
@@teckreactions They have it a long list of incredible music ,,,THE SECOND STONE .. UNLEASHED..KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.. CRY FOR THE MOON 🌙 TIDES OF TIME .. CANVAS OF LIFE .. SENSORIUM.. NEVER ENOUGH …. On and on WOW 😮
You should check out their special concerts last Thursday and Friday in Amsterdam with choir, children choir and orchestra. Privilege to be there live. Better symphonic metal live you won’t find !!!
Being a drummer, maybe you would enjoy the following videos. 1) Neil Peart's drum solo in Frankfurt: th-cam.com/video/LWRMOJQDiLU/w-d-xo.html or maybe 2) some Senri Kawaguchi performance: th-cam.com/video/urpso-w87ts/w-d-xo.html While I'm not a drummer myself, I'm still in awe by their skills.
Simone has a similar background to Floor. They are both from The Netherlands. They both received their training there. To hear her when Epica was first starting, watch Cry for the Moon from a special TV show they did back in the early 2000s. It was their first big hit. She was 19 years old. Their 10th Anniversary Retrospect show was done with a full orchestra and choir. There are a bunch of great songs from the show, but given your background, I think you would really enjoy her duet with Floor Jansen in the ancient song Sabat Mater Dolorosa, a 15th-century hymn about Mary at the cross. Another song I would recommend from the show would be Design Your Universe.
Since you said something about "America Got Talent" .. whenever i hear old americans complaining about that there is no good music out there anymore, i just wonder what the hell they are talking about. I'm a 60 year old german, and since the late 90s i mostly heare symphonic metal, what for me was more or less the successor of symphonic/prog rock (Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, ELP, Renaissance, Marillion .. ) and or me there has always been fresh great new music. Of course if these guys only listen to mainstream radio .. hell in the 70s and 80s there was also mostly trash they wanted to sell us there.
In a way you are right but the 70s and 80s and 90s ' trash' was at least highly diverse, so many music genres (just look at the sheer musical diversity of a band like Queen (which is of course not a ' thrash' band :) Today the mainstream is just generic and soulless Swift-like poppy Americana/R&B or rap about someone's ass and/or making a lot of money. But I do agree with you; the live (underground) scene is still bursting with talent like it has always been. In my (tiny) street alone there are three young bands (age 14-18-ish) practising every week (a hardcore metal band, a punkish humor band and a symphonic rock band (fortunately two on the same day :)) The Music industry will never destroy good music because it was one of the earliest forms of human communication. Could listen to Epica endlessly though, Cheers from the Low countries !
Simone Simons is Dutch and she is from the south of the Netherlands, like Floor Jansen. I don't think that Simone went to the conservatory like Floor did, but they where at the Rock Academy together, and also where roomies and still are BF's (for as far as I know). There is an interview that Simone did with Elizabeth Zharoff (the Charismatic voice). That is very intersting if you want to learn more about her.
Floor and Smoon never studied together, never lived together, never had the same vocal coach etc. It’s all hearsay. Please check your facts before posting bollocks.

What’s fed to Americans via TV and radio is 90% garbage. We really have to seek out the good ones.
America hasn’t got talent.
@@redguern there’s plenty of talent here.
@@teckreactions sadly the music industry in America only pushes out what it thinks is talent, not what is talent.
