Who ever made that ”collection” he edited it badly 😅 many of those songs were cutted the way it didn’t give the right picture how those songs really sound because it was just a short cut from chorus/hook
EXACTLY! I was thinking the same, if it has to be only few seconds, then please cut it from a better spot. Not the chorus, if it's supposed to be a collection of rap music.
Agree - also Paleface's Helsinki Shangri-La album is not really rapping for the most part, it's traditional singing and protest song tradition with spices of rap, he has much other stuff that could've been used.
@@air9227 Honestly I started listening to old albums from Avain and damn that shit went hard. Starting to become my favorite rapper, although Ruudolf is still #1 in my heart :)
Fintelligens were really big , but a few years after came Cheek, his success made hiphop almost "too mainstream" for a while. His hit singles are the most streamed and most watched finnish rap tracks. The other half of Fintelligens, Elastinen has his own record label and been doing Finland's "The Voice" for many years now. He's quite popular still from toddler to grandparents.
@@MetroMabe sure he's not spittin' like "real rappers" , but he is on this list and he was megapopular during his career, there are many styles of hiphop represented here. I don't personally care for his music but I was just expressing my views.
Oh baby Oh baby I love you very much Why does your father has to be a provost? Otherwise we would be kissing each other, Driving to the sunset. You are beautiful and I am strong, Ah, you have a wonderful toe! I would very much like to take off your shirt, To see your lovely tan lines. I would very much love to kiss you. Why the heck is your father a provost? It's a beautiful summer night. School work isn't bothering us. I will always remember you, I hope you will remember me too. Baby I will do anything for you, I will freeze my grandma, I will fly to you. (chorus) I would like to be with you "that way", You know what I mean. I would love to touch you so, but what if your father finds out? When I see you my pants are throbbing. Oh baby check out this cannon! Ah now hormone is oozing, Why does your father has to be a mormon? Ah how lovely is your form, I would love to have your body completely to myself. It would be nice to have sexual intercourse with you, But I couldn't be bothered to kill a person (for that). (chorus) I would love to make love to you, Otherwise a gasstove is calling my name, or a hanging rope, or a razor blade. Come here baby, let's do a set. Ah I love your scent! I wonder how your dad figured out, What we were doing in the bathroom When we took each other's virginities. (chorus) ... And then the dude who is singing this song tells us how he got traumatized, but I will not write the lyrics here because it is not a nice image. (chorus)
Yes, people think Finland = Metal. But. We actually do every kind of music there is. And we are good at it. On thing we are really bad at and that is selling the stuff :D
We've been told this many times, "Kell' onni on, se onnen kätkekööt." Basicly, don't try to look too broud of what you're good at. "Omakehu haisee," is one other phrase.
Avain/Asa (the same dude) is someone you should definetly look in to, that dude is a sick writer, his lyrics are top notch. Fintelligens was great, they were a duo from which Elastinen went main stream/pop and made some very popular songs solo but he kinda left his roots a hiphop artist. Paleface is also another good example of og finnish hiphop, he also got some great material. From the newer stuff I personally like Kube and Gettomasa above all. But yeah, there is a lot of hidden gems for you to find, this list gives you a small glimpse of what there is to be found. Its great to see you enjoying these, hope you have fun when you go deeper!
The thing that i dont personally like with todays rap in Finland is that majority of the artists use autotune and they sound similar. Nasal. And the songs are imo just pop.
These are the best selling/famous artists in this list but many greats are missing. Start with Redrama: Hang it up, Paleface: Aakkosmurha and Don Johnson Big Band - One MC, One Delay. These artists have started late 90,s and are still in! OGs like Avain/Asa and Fintelligens. I would Start with these... Thanks for reaction. Hola from Finland!
Finnish language is I guess phonologically kinda minimalistic and emphasis is always on the first syllable of every word. Never really thought of it, but now that you mentioned it, I guess Finnish language is almost like it was purposefully made for rapping 😅
I’d respectfully disagree - MC Nikke T and some of the early ones prove me right 😂 But Fintelligens changed that by emphasizing differently and stretching the words in a very un-Finnish way and I think we’re still on that road, with William’s Penelope for example 🩵
Man, check out Huge L! The dude has made like at least 40 albums, propably 1000 songs, all produced by himself and is also considered to be the best freestyler in Finland according to most rap artists. True underground and self made DIY-hiphop artist. He also has an alter egos Pohjolan Molli and Herra Huu, both awesome. I'm not really a fan of hiphop and I hate like 95% of that type of music, but I do love Tupac, Ice Cube, Nas, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill and Wu-Tang Clan. British acts like The Streets, Gorillaz, Bob Vylan. I also found Ren couple of days ago and he's brilliant! I do not like Finnish hiphop in general, but Asa is good, Paleface has couple of good songs and so does JVG (mostly party stuff). But Huge L is out of this world with his beats, flow and lyrics. So chill, but still very rattatata like you said. Check his songs "1sanal", "Joo Joo", "Melankoholista (feat. Asa)", "Fressi", "Ma Ottaisin Laskun", "Oon Nahny" and "Mittasuhde Maailma". In that order too, 'cause 1sanal means with "oneword". Great rhyming with great flow! Oh, and one of the new acts I recommend is a group called Good Boys and a song "Niinku Saakeli". Great flow and one of them is like Finnish version of Busta Rhymes. Really fast!!! But good flow.
Dude, You've only scratched the surface with this small compilation, You should definetly check out all the songs and music videos, maybe even translate the lyrics, you'll see finnish rap goes in-depth to some serious shit and one could argue its on top of the world, its just not known that well ;) I appreciate you making this reaction video and checking out our rap, would love to see more! 😄
I hardly ever see this level of misogynistic attitude when discussing any Finnish subject. Where is this coming from? I can understand that not all Finnish lady rappers are good but neither are the gents. Saying that there aren't any good ones is just ridiculous.
@@nightwind6515 This. And neither this list nor the gents video was a top list. Opinions if the songs are good or bad is irrelevant. But seems like some people wanted to come to tell their opinions anyway.
Around 09:00 you talked about how finnish language sounds good on hiphop. I guess word "punchy" could describe our language in that matter lol. Great video, and greetings from Finland!
How about creating a playlist where people can add Finnish rap songs and then you react to a few at a time? I bet that way you'll get a pretty good view of the Finnish rap scene 😎
What i hate about finnish rap is that almost always its just about boring money ,womans etc gans and shit. Like its so narrow line and kinda embarrassing to hear. Everyone has change to live without those and in life there is so much more. Make song s about your best buddy pastaway (dog) or some really life things not some stupid shit like many do
The most popular genre in Finland is pop in Finnish. The most popular genre among the Finnish youth however is hip hop. Different Finnish cities can have their own hip hip history and sound. The performer of the first Finnish hip hop song, General Njassa aka Jyrki Jantunen was experimenting with different genres, hip hop included. The song was actually a hit of a sort in France: "HIP HOP avec Sidney! 13 (With General Njassa)". The song was on a collection album 'Art of Breeding', which was produced by Jimi Sumén and Kari Kalén. Sumén is pioneers of Finnish synth pop: "Jimi Sumén - (No More) Home Movies (1981)". The same year Jantunen rapped as General Njassa, he also sang in a band Musta Paraati, which is one of Finnish goth rock pioneers: "Musta paraati - Jää". So during those first years of "Finnish hip hop" producers and artists from different genres were experimenting with it, often humorously:"Bat and Ryyd - Ehtaa Tavaraa". That being said, MTV was airing in Finland too and 'Fame', 'The Message', 'Beat Street' were hits in Finland also. In 1985 Finland was already street dancing on an international level: "Disco Freestyle, Breaking ja Electric Boogie SM 1985". One influences to this was dance teacher Aira Samulin, who worked with the youth and had family in the US. She's credited E.g. for introducing Aerobics to Finland: "Virus Dance! Pop Corona! Performed By Finnish Dance Legend Aira Samulin Age 93!". Some early graffiti: "Floorphilia Crew presents Helsinki Graffiti 1985-199? Part 1". Some beatboxing: "Beatbox - Felix Zenger". Paleface is Finnish hip hop's grand old man. According the story he got his nickname when he was an exchange student in the US. Fintelligens is the most legendary of the Finnish groups. The first credible and commercially successful group rapping in Finnish. Elastinen from the group has performed also as a solo artist. Gettomasa is popular. JVG is also popular, if you liked them.
Yes well but hip hop is.. kinda mostly pop in mainstream Finland. If you wanna actually write complex lyrics with innovative flows.. it's propably not gonna work out for you (Are ja Stepa kouluttautu opettajiksi koska ei vaan musalla tee massia ja Are on yksi kovimpia kirjottajia ja freestailaajia Suomessa). Neither is if you tap into street culture and not into mainstream, finnish people do not get it or really like it. A bit over 10 years ago there was a Great balance of both and now you just cannot make any money by putting more effort into rhymes and talk about more complex topics in more complex way. Even someone like Huge L who just does what he wants knew it won't be a ticket to more than just about making barely the minimum pay by liking to actually play with words (tulee mieleen esim: Asmaatikolle syötän pölykapselin. Kapselin pölyä. Kaiken täytyy olla niin suoraan sanottua suomiräpissä eikä voi olla tälläisiä ovelia sanaleikkejä). So he always kept his original job as a mail-man, does not do gigs, has maybe released only two more so serious albums. Otherwise just puts out like.. 6 albums a year just because why not. Even tho on top the dude also makes some of the best finnish beats. Then someone like Skandaali at the start of 2000's was and still is Super skilled, but he leaned on what people wanted to hear to get the money out of it and have fun. The down-spiral started when the small labels died and big labels are super strickt with what they let you put out and it will mostly be targeted to mainstream. Because Finland is a small country and most do not simply understand hip hop culture or like it or pay attention to complex lyricism. So it is what it is, do not work long-term if not going into mainstream more poppy or rock rap or it will just after your time become a hobby with a real job (aka skills will get rusted). Finnish hip hop isn't really in very good place from pure hip hop standpoint, just the truth. Only very few like Pyhimys have managed to kinda dance on the line and even he knew they need to do mainstream radio pop hits with Teflon Brothers to make the money for the actual projects.
Occurred to me that you might find interesting what some of your countrymen have been up to in Finland. Starting with The renegades, who for awhile were more popular in Finland than The Beatles: "The Renegades - Thirteen Women 1966", "Wigwam - Freddie Are You Ready (TV Promo, 1975)", "Frank Robson & Hurmerinta-Sorvali Band: Storm (live 1976)", "Paul Oxley´s Unit Terry´s inside" and "Jussi Halme - Lori St. John - Love Pact (1985)". Ending with Raymond Ebanks, who is best known from Bomfunk MC's: "B.A.M. feat. B.O.W. and MC Stand'n'Tall - Make Ya Think / Our Philosophy" and "Bomfunk MC's - (Crack It) Something Going On".

Finland has a very sizeable hiphop community, compared to it's size. It is probably one of biggest sub cultures here.. Been for a long time. As you can see, finnish hiphop dates back decades. It's gotten big enough to have broken into mainstream even since late 90s.. So yes. Finland has rap. Like real hiphop, not just any random rap. People take their hiphop pretty seriously too here. Now what comes to that "level went up past 6 years" the overall lyrical skill of hiphop has gone down, but hiphop has still gone even more versatile.. So there's something for everyone now. Back in 90s and 2000s it was all about lyrics. Now there is more all kinds of hiphop.. And that same effect reflects in the surface hiphop all around the world as well now. Gettomasa won the biggest finnish freestyle battle championship in 2012 and he still raps till this day.
I think we have a lot more black hiphop artists now in Finland, because we finally have a generation of people entering their 20s who are black and have been born and raised in Finland. Their parents were the immigrants. Obviously there are individual people whose grandparents were the immigrants etc, but at least I feel like the amount of black adults who speak perfect Finnish has gone up quite recently, and I work a customer service job.
Yes, Finland has had a robust rap scene for a long time now. And thing is, finnish is actually a really good language for rapping. Lots of sharp sounds, lots of syllables, but it's not very uhmm... musical(?) in many ways (crap I just finished writing this and you hit on this same point @_@). Also, Finnish culture has this no nonsense, tell it to you straight - side to it, which works with this genre really well.
Pikku G was sick at the time cuz he was so young and I was the same age. After that I hated Finnish rap tho lmao. as you said, corny as hell. These recent years REALLY got me back into it. Def stepped their game up. You should give Averagekidluke a listen man. Started out rapping in English but transitioned into Finglish. One of my favs right now.
The underground tape markets were going crazy all over the nordic countries in the 80's and 90's which is why metal and hip hop got so damn big so fast. Even punk got pretty big, and I mean actual punk and not just like pop punk Green Day or shit like that. Especially in the 90's death metal and black metal were massive scenes already in all Nordics
I'm a hard boiled metal fan, but I really think Paleface is one of the best Finnish rap or what ever you call his genre. Paleface has some great lyrics.
Good job man. Even the clips were too short to get a real sense of what was going on, some of them are actually pretty good and other pretty silly as expected everywhere :D Still. Love the idea and the execution. love from Finland, bro!
Fintelligens was really a game changer at its time. Personally i was expecting more from Rudolf aswel, but a lot of great artists and songs there. And as a finn it really was heartwarming to see your reactions 🫶🏻
Ritarikunta? Ceebrolistiks? Chyde's impact on the scene from late 80's up till 2000 is something to not skip. Check out for example Ritarikunta - Tulivesi maailma. Don Johnson Big Band - Disco San Francisco (Sadly only live version on YT, One MC and one delay Also lapland represend, where's Tulenkantajat? Tulenkantajat - Rollofunk, Tulenkantajat - Poroajelu (afrobeat + rap ) There's so many that had been skipped(or briefly featured, there were so many fintelligens for example)
I wish there were translations for some of the older freestyle battles, they're really good! Especially the ones from people like Solonen, Armomurha, Altis, AT, Kajo, Kosola, El dorado (he rapped in english though, there's some good battles on youtube xdd), Hätä miikka etc
Avain and Asa are actually the same dude. He started out as Avain and quickly after his debut Punainen Tiili was released, he changed his name to Asa. And you also need to check out Kallio Underground and their album Pimeä Puoli. Probably the best Finnish hip hop album in like 10+ years.
I have listened to rap music since 80’s but after that video, I just release how many great hip hop artists we have. First it was more like coping American rappers, but at least 10 years many Finnish rapper have created they’re own sound.
Short list who i recommend To check out. Cledos, Asa/Avain, Kube, Tulenkantajat, Fintelligens, Stepa, Seremoniamestari, Ruudolf, Juno / Yang Simmons. 🙂
Quick summary. Fintelligens invented that you can rap seriously in finnish (all finnish language songs before that were humour rap) Cheek and JVG were first rappers to rap sold out stadions aka radio friendly pop rap. Gettomasa came out of nowhere 10 years ago and said "hes gonna bring back original 90 rap and succeeded in that" and yeah
@@Jehuty66 yeah, its a bit weird that they completely skipped ceebrolistics in the video which was one of the biggest (albeit still underground) rap collecticves of the early 90s, and they are still making music to this day. they did rap in english tho
No, they were not. Fintelligens was the act that was more widely known in Finland, but we had a living hip hop culture before that. I remember seeing for example Nuera much earlier and when I checked they were active during 1989-2003. Fintelligens started around 1997. There were several groups I knew and made it seriously even if they did not manage to have publicity in broader audiences than the underground culture already had. That doesn’t mean they did not exist or didn’t matter.
Fintelligens are like the OG:s. Ruudolf is very dope. Gettomasa and Kube are one best of new ones.👌 React to Ruger Hauer Jokaisella jotain. Many finnish rappers at one track.
Hi from Estonia! Been fan of Finnish rap since the beginning of 2000s. Fintelligens was good! Was fan of Skandaali, but his music modernised and I don't like him since. Elämä on peli was one of my most listened tracks in that time. Gettomasa is propably my favourite with his companions like Are and others. Could someone recommend me more Finnish artists similar to prevously mentiones ones? Also do a similar react video about Estonian rap music.
Way too short clips from the vids editor, but thank you so much! I'm a metalhead but also rapfan. as a millenial i remember the hype when i was a teenager anyhow :D listened it secrectly in my room because i should've been so gothic...
Fintelligens were big back in the day. They now own a rap/hip hop label called "Rähinä Records" and people like Asa (formelly known as Avain), Kapasiteettiyksikkö, Timo Pieni Huijaus (formelly known as II or Idän Ihme), etc. are part of that brand. The brand is like Def Jam of Finland. Fintelligens are considered as pioneers of Finnish hip-hop and you should definetly look in to them and Rähinä Records in general.
Nowadays I'm a metal head, but in my youth my favorite rapper was definitely Avain, Finteligens and Ezkimo . Still need to be listened to from time to time. Especially drunk when i get a nostalgia trip. :D Cheek is the only thing that cannot be tolerated in Finnish hip-hop culture. Too industrial shit. And I noticed from this video that since 2010 I can't catch any songs for myself. The sound has changed too much :(
Hip hop is very big in Finland and has been through the 2000’s. What I find strange personally though that the styles that historically formed in to hip hop being soul, rnb, funk and certain tempos of disco have not really ever had such mainstream success as hip hop has had in the last 20 years. I can dig out individual tracks from the past that groove in a very funky way, but those have not been the biggest hits in Finland by a long shot. Professional musicians in Finland have always been very hip to the latest international styles of the ”Black Atlantic” if that is a correct term to describe the roots of all of this music. Very good players and studio musicians have worked through the 60s, 70s and 80s and traveled to the U.S. and back to get influences and learn. But what seems to have been the most selling music for the ”general public” in the end has been rhythmically far from the root styles of hip hop. Most money for musicians in the past has always been in the more ”schlager” oriented styles of dance music for a lack of a better term. Or styles that easily cross over with classical music, like certain rock and metal more directly (Bach but on an electric guitar). What I think conceptually makes up a good groove (interlocking repetitive rhythms within a certain timespan, usually two bars following an underlying clave like rhythmic pattern) has not been the priority in most Finnish mainstream music of the 1900s and certainly not a thing in classical music at all, which is sort of more ”Finnish thing” than hip hop and other black music. There is one country wide commercial radio channel ”Groove FM” that plays rnb, funk, jazz and disco but it rarely features actual personnel in the studio curating the music, they just play playlists and programs bought from BBC (which are great! Like the Ronnie Scotts jazz show etc). As a lover of jazz, funk, rnb, soul and all the latin american and african styles of music I am super happy that actually through the rise of hip hops popularity, I think the core musical influences and musical substance (certain rhythms, jazz/rnb harmony, time feel manipulation, swing etc) have started to take more and more root in the mainstream Finnish musical landscape. But in terms of multicultural understanding it is important that in a mostly white country like Finland the history and roots of these global musical styles is understood. That is not always the case at all… With overt racism on the rise in Finnish mainstream politics (and all over europe), these kind of issues are more and more important. It is blatant hypocrisy to dance to beats with historic roots in Black Atlantic and African cultures but then say disrespectable things about the people when immigrants from such countries come to Finland.
For some reason there are no Finnish rappers who are female in this collection. So if you're going to make a proper reaction video I'd check Mariska who was one of the first commercially successful female rappers in the early 2000's. Nowadays there are for example Yeboyah, Etta, F, and Mercedes to say some. I'm not that into rap music so if anyone has any other artists to add, please feel free to do so
Definitely please check out Mariska. Tarkasta tämä is a great song to get started. I have to point out that she did rap or hip hop early on and transitioned to pop songs later on so start from the oldies ;)
Some of my personal favorite finnish rappers: Pyhimys Huge L Paperi T Dj Kridlokk Asa Ezkimo(RIP) Juno Stepa Mariska Lavis Steen1 Kalle Kinos Davo Heikki Kuula Timo Pieni Huijaus JV Nikke Ankara Groups: Ruger Hauer Kemmuru Aivovuoto MC Taakibörsta Konala Cartelli SMC Markat Takas! I personally like more lyrical type of finnish rap.
Gettomasa is the guy who pulled the rap scene back in to the rails. Fintelligens was the leading mainstream name back in the early 2000's. Paleface is a genius guy, his lyrics are from different world compared to any other rapper, listen Paleface - Aakkosmurha 👍
Early 2000 was the peak of finhop and rap after that it has been slippery slope towards downhill... Fintelligens - 7 Veljestä, Paleface Colgate Soulmate, Avain Punainen tiili, Ezkimo Salainen Agentti 998, Rockin Da North Kingsize. Pretty much creme de la creme of fin hop / rap. Nice video thumbs up 👍👍
I don't like rap music, but as Finnish guy, thanks for your reaction. Make another reaction of other Finnish bands, we have huge mount world class metal bands for example. Mikael from Finland
Late to the party, but you should definitely check out Don Johnson Big Band. Father Metro is one dope rapper from Finland that not even that many Finns remember!
I think for me and my friends Avain - Punainen tiili had something rebellious and rising against the authority. Song name translates to a "Red Brick". It was released after the 90's recession and when economy was at it's height I guess. Artist said that he had a "red notebook" where he pondered about our society and capitalism. He became to an age where all Finnish men have to serve mandatory military service and Avain was struggling to decide if he should serve or resist (which would most likely mean prison time). So he became to rap from his red notebook and so became the song what was voted as best Finnish rap song. And it really is at least for me. You should definitely check out Finnish label PME RECORDS. They have all the variety of best Finnish rappers which most are presented in the video.
What you said about Finnish being rhythmic reminds me of how Antti Hyyrynen, The singer of Stam1na (a great, very popular metal band) said about him choosing Finnish as his lyric language because it creates a new percussive element to the songs. It is definitely a strong feature of their songs. Do check out some time!
There is also in youtube videos of finnish rap championship where also gettomasa competed. Also have to mention sadly MKDMSK has passed away few years ago..
I really enjoyed this video, would love to see more of these! If you’re interested in reacting to more underground artists aswell, here are a few suggestions from the west coast of Finland (only listing songs with music videos): 1. FAKTIO - Viispäinen hirviö. This group, based in Vaasa, combines rap/hiphop/trap and lately some pop punk-tunes. This banger was their first release which happened during corona. 2. MATUKKA - Kuolinhuone. Matukka is a youtuber/musician who used to do rant videos, and shocked the audience with this diss track of Finnish youtubers. It’s like a lovely slap in the face. Also from Vaasa. If you look closely you notice he looks a bit like one of the guys in Faktio lol. 3. WALT MIGUEL - Hall käft. Walt is a Swedish speaking finn, but he also raps in Spanish and Finnish. ”Hall käft” is an ode to his home town and other ug/og rappers from Pietarsaari-Jakobstad (called Jeppis). Other bangers: Perros, in Spanish, and Liekkii, in Finnish.
I hope you will do some reactions to full songs, I feel like this playlist of videos does not do justice to most of the songs, they only include a few seconds, often not including or cutting right before the best parts. It's a good list though, I would suggest checking out some of the full songs for a video, it looks like there is interest for this! :)
2016 was the year that kinda changed the landscape with a surge of young dudes breaking into the scene with a fresh sound. Before that it was YEARS and YEARS of nothing but JVG and Cheek in the radio. Cheek I don’t even fucking count as hip hop even my 60 year old dad calls it ”iskelmä” a classic finnish pop genre😂😂
Most of all those are mainstream rappers. I strongly recommend you to get to know Finnish underground rap artists and music. For example Petos, Kallio Underground, KPV etc. Huge L is an awesome rapper also
I highly recommend listening to MKDMSK - edelleen edellä. The flow he had is insane. Also one to mention is Cheek, he carried the Finnish rap scene for several years.
Agh, I wished the song went on for longer so many times during this. You definitely need to watch more and if you're planning to watch any with Finnish lyrics, def post on your community page beforehand so people can translate the lyrics for you.
Can't believe Justimusfilms wasn't in the compilation! 😔 No but seriously though, if we are talking about Finnish rap music, I'd like to urge you to try listening to Plutonium 74's song "Aleksis Kiven kadulla". I wouldn't call it hiphop, but it sure is rap of some kind, and it's really neat to listen to, at least in my opinion c:
A lot of mates there.. I grew up with the same circle of friends as the Nuera guys in Tampere and Ylöjärvi, and started DJing later around '96 when studying in Jyväskylä. Moved abroad 2006, so what was going on in Finland fell a bit under my radar. But I think things have really diversified and matured since then. Besides Nuera, I used to DJ at the same parties with Paleface, Ezkimo (rest in peace, homie) and Aksim and Yodarock from Kemmuru. Iso-H and Ewok from Fintelligens were sleeping at my student flat back in the days when they visited Jyväskylä. Aksim started producing and rapping earnestly around the same time I was DJing and we could instantly recognise his talent. He was always experimenting with sounds. He has also produced some non-Finnish artists, e.g. MF Grimm. He's still very much active, for example collaborating with Gettomasa. In fact, I moved back to Finland last winter and had one of my first DJ gigs at an event organised by Aksim. Couple of ones I would've added here at the latter half of 90's - early 00's (although it's of course difficult to be all compassing in a short video like that): Ceebrolistics with their "West Coast UG" sound (think about Living Legends, Project Blowed), Tulenkantajat from Lapland with their live band, Ritarikunta from Turku (although they were featured in one of the tracks as collabo), a group with one of the early 90's pioneers MC Nikke T (even if he himself is not that happy to bring up THAT history :D), Juhani, who's actually been back to producing beats (a thing he does rather well) lately. But great to see some Finnish hip hop being recognised abroad. We also have some good breakers and painters, so shout out to them!
Finns have had rap battles since the early Iron Age (Väinämöinen vs. Joukahainen were the OGs)
More like spell/lures ans tales battles

Who ever made that ”collection” he edited it badly 😅 many of those songs were cutted the way it didn’t give the right picture how those songs really sound because it was just a short cut from chorus/hook
EXACTLY! I was thinking the same, if it has to be only few seconds, then please cut it from a better spot. Not the chorus, if it's supposed to be a collection of rap music.
Yeah its pretty boring edit but It kinda still gets the job done

His hit singles are the most streamed and most watched finnish rap tracks.
The other half of Fintelligens, Elastinen has his own record label and been doing Finland's "The Voice" for many years now.
He's quite popular still from toddler to grandparents.
And just to correct myself slightly, JVG has probably at least partially surpassed Cheek in streams etc.
Cheek is not a rapper. His a poprapper😂 dont ever bring that rat on table of og rappers😂
@@MetroMabe sure he's not spittin' like "real rappers" , but he is on this list and he was megapopular during his career, there are many styles of hiphop represented here. I don't personally care for his music but I was just expressing my views.

Oh baby
Oh baby I love you very much
Why does your father has to be a provost?
Otherwise we would be kissing each other,
Driving to the sunset.
You are beautiful and I am strong,
Ah, you have a wonderful toe!
I would very much like to take off your shirt,
To see your lovely tan lines.
I would very much love to kiss you.
Why the heck is your father a provost?
It's a beautiful summer night.
School work isn't bothering us.
I will always remember you,
I hope you will remember me too.
Baby I will do anything for you,
I will freeze my grandma, I will fly to you.

I would like to be with you "that way",
You know what I mean.
I would love to touch you so, but what if your father finds out?
When I see you my pants are throbbing.
Oh baby check out this cannon!
Ah now hormone is oozing,
Why does your father has to be a mormon?
Ah how lovely is your form, I would love to have your body completely to myself.
It would be nice to have sexual intercourse with you,
But I couldn't be bothered to kill a person (for that).
(chorus)
I would love to make love to you,
Otherwise a gasstove is calling my name, or a hanging rope, or a razor blade.
Come here baby, let's do a set.
Ah I love your scent!
I wonder how your dad figured out,
What we were doing in the bathroom
When we took each other's virginities.

A Finn here. Loving your analysis of our language. The harshness, the syllables, and the rhythm…and loving that you love our rap 🫶🏻
Juice Leskinen was Master of Finnish lyrics
Yes, people think Finland = Metal. But. We actually do every kind of music there is. And we are good at it. On thing we are really bad at and that is selling the stuff :D
Juu ihan vitun hyvin 😂😂👍
Muuten iha hyvä kommentti mut autotune ei oo huono asia

These are the best selling/famous artists in this list but many greats are missing. Start with Redrama: Hang it up, Paleface: Aakkosmurha and Don Johnson Big Band - One MC, One Delay. These artists have started late 90,s and are still in! OGs like Avain/Asa and Fintelligens. I would Start with these... Thanks for reaction. Hola from Finland!
Oh yes: 1 MC, 1 delay! 😎
Also Ceebrolistics is missing. My fav from the90’s
Finnish language is I guess phonologically kinda minimalistic and emphasis is always on the first syllable of every word. Never really thought of it, but now that you mentioned it, I guess Finnish language is almost like it was purposefully made for rapping 😅
...you could always check how the old poem singers did their thing, you might be surprised.
Huge l way too underrated
Huge L is one of the best and so underrated.
Huge L should definately be considered one of the greatest Finnish rappers of all time
Somehow the list seemed to lack Are aswell, who is also one of the best if not the best freestyler in finland, and top tier rapper.

I'm not sure about the genre, but you should check the older group Don Johnson Big Band. Lots of fast rap there.

honestly as a Finn this was such a great trip down the memory lane!

Great video, greetings from Finland!
Loved your reactions to the music, especially to Finntelligens (Elastinen carried on solo)
And Avain - punainen tiili is the one that you should start with 💜💜
Pikku G was sick at the time cuz he was so young and I was the same age. After that I hated Finnish rap tho lmao. as you said, corny as hell. These recent years REALLY got me back into it.

Nice songs from my youth. Finlands rappers are multiversal and adapting from everykind of beats from rock'n roll to senior music.
Elastinen is the other guy from previous Fintelligens. Still famous in Finland making his own music. I love our hiphop eventhough I am 47 years old.

I have listened to rap music since 80’s but after that video, I just release how many great hip hop artists we have. First it was more like coping American rappers, but at least 10 years many Finnish rapper have created they’re own sound.

Finland actually has a lot of rappers i feel like😂 Like festivals and such sometimes have ONLY rappers performing and that's crazy😆
Gettomasa and Fintelligence were the ones that you wanted to check out. My favourite at this point in time is Eevil Stöö. He is superb.
Originators are originators, but KUBE's first release flipped the scene on its head.
Well not all before Fintelligens were humour rap, it just was the thing that was popular.
@@Jehuty66 yeah, its a bit weird that they completely skipped ceebrolistics in the video which was one of the biggest (albeit still underground) rap collecticves of the early 90s, and they are still making music to this day. they did rap in english tho
Memmy Posse was before fintelligens 😘
No, they were not. Fintelligens was the act that was more widely known in Finland, but we had a living hip hop culture before that. I remember seeing for example Nuera much earlier and when I checked they were active during 1989-2003. Fintelligens started around 1997. There were several groups I knew and made it seriously even if they did not manage to have publicity in broader audiences than the underground culture already had. That doesn’t mean they did not exist or didn’t matter.

That "Pojat teki soppaa" beat is a killer, though it's a pretty straight forward sample from soundtrack/theme of The Last of the Mohicans
touched my brain and skin, its sounds so good
Haha, true! But most of the samples are copied from somewhere. For example one legend "Gangstas paradise" and so on.
I was expecting to see Likanen Etelä, but no. What the hell :D
In Finland Finnish language was mostly seen as a joke in rap before Fintelligens break through in autumn of 1999 with their song Voittamaton.
As you already know Finland is a metal country, so check Lähiöbotox! They’re a rap metal group. It’s the unique combination and I love them!
I'm not that into rap music so if anyone has any other artists to add, please feel free to do so
Jaahas joku wokeisti tuli ulisemaan vastoin tilastotieteitä ja todennäköisyyksiä.
because the female rappers aren't as good as the male ones?
Female? Rap? 😂😂😂
Shut up
Definitely please check out Mariska. Tarkasta tämä is a great song to get started. I have to point out that she did rap or hip hop early on and transitioned to pop songs later on so start from the oldies ;)

I personally like more lyrical type of finnish rap.
Gettomasa’s been around for like a decade already. His early music is also great.
Gettomasa is the guy who pulled the rap scene back in to the rails. Fintelligens was the leading mainstream name back in the early 2000's. Paleface is a genius guy, his lyrics are from different world compared to any other rapper, listen Paleface - Aakkosmurha 👍
I'm so sorry you had to hear about Cheek. I'm glad that guy is done for.
Everybody is. Even his fans.
Nice video thumbs up 👍👍
Finnish reggae is also good. One of the hardest artists is Raappana- Maasta maahan , is it possible to make a reaction video?
Reggae and hip hop are really tied to one another here
I don't like rap music, but as Finnish guy, thanks for your reaction.
Make another reaction of other Finnish bands, we have huge mount world class metal bands for example.
Mikael from Finland
Gettomasa is called chosen one for a reason
huge l ja pyhimys muuucho better, toi masa vaa ylimieline jäbä joka luulee olevansa vitu hyvä
and that reason is himself saying he's called that 😆

jodarok
such a shame not a single song from the best finnish rapper Huge L
I LOVE rap in Finland in Finnish.
Best regards,
Middle aged tart
What you said about Finnish being rhythmic reminds me of how Antti Hyyrynen, The singer of Stam1na (a great, very popular metal band) said about him choosing Finnish as his lyric language because it creates a new percussive element to the songs. It is definitely a strong feature of their songs. Do check out some time!
We are not the pop country like Sweden but honestly Finnish rap is high class!
There is also in youtube videos of finnish rap championship where also gettomasa competed. Also have to mention sadly MKDMSK has passed away few years ago..
Avain has many artist names, record called Asa - Foetida 3, is one big diamond. He wipes his ass with Fintelligens.
Cheek is probably most famous rap artist in finland of all time at least most listened artist but right now is JVG what is band where is two rappers.
I really enjoyed this video, would love to see more of these!
If you’re interested in reacting to more underground artists aswell, here are a few suggestions from the west coast of Finland (only listing songs with music videos):
And so much names and sounds that you didn't even hear here. Like Paperi-T, Khid, Dj Kridlokk, Dj Ibusal...
Avain(now Asa), Julma Henri(Julma H), be spiting the real truth.
I didn't know these early rappers exept until Raptor... And Then again from Fintelligens
Agh, I wished the song went on for longer so many times during this. You definitely need to watch more and if you're planning to watch any with Finnish lyrics, def post on your community page beforehand so people can translate the lyrics for you.
hip hop is major in Finland, specially "party hip hop" that's sung in finnish
omg whoever made that compilation, those songs were cut horribly, you couldn't even hear the actual song😭
Pretty cool to see a foreigner reacting to our rap/hiphop scene haha
I have met couple of those rappers IRL and they are just as normal everyday guys you can ever meet. Check out Paleface, please?
Local rappers tend to be, it's only when they become international the ego creeps in lol! I will definitely check out Paleface he's on the list. 😊👌
Kiitos!
Thank you so much 😊
A lot of mates there..
