So great to have you back. I missed your insights and analysis. As someone with no music education or training ( a mistake I made sure my children did not suffer) I have learned so much about singing and music from your videos. Looking forward to more. Great reaction to one of my favorite Epica songs. Loved your insights on how Simone is producing those achingly beautiful high notes as well as her powerful belts. Song is inspired by the dark German fairytale about the Alder King or Erlking who steals the souls of children who linger to long in the woods by killing them with a single touch. The male voice here is the evil enchanter trying to lure the young traveler to his side with promises of power and tender care by his daughters. I would love to see you dive into the Dutch gothic symphonic metal band Blackbriar and their lead singer Zora Cock. She has one of the most hautingly beautiful and unique voices. I have never heard another singer like her. The Seance is a great song to not only listen to but has some great vocals that you would have fun analyzing. There is an offical music video as well as an acoustic version that i absolutely love so perhaps a two for one? Arms of the Ocean is another great song and my usual first song to introduce the band although more straight forward vocally. My Soul's Demise is another great song with interesting vocals by Zora. Bonus is their strong gothic vibe in both their music and visually in their videos, a perfect fit for the Halloween season. For more Simone I concur on Tides of Time or Rise Again with Apocalyptica and throw in Sirens- of Blood and Water which is inspired by the original Little Mermaid tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
Thank you. For ALL of this. Have you ever heard the Schubert version of the Erlking? It’s striking for piano and singer. Was a very important piece of my concert repertoire for a while. I would love to do a return to Blackbriar. What I recall is it being really wonderful. Would be a great double header. I’m very tempted to throw in multiple reactions that feature a few songs with a similar theme as well. Still brewing those ideas though. Wonderful suggestions. Thanks again!
Simone is actually a very resilient singer. She is very energetic on the live stage and at the same time, in recent years, it is very noticeable that she has begun to control her voice much better, which allows her to actively move during a concert and at the same time, her voice almost does not suffer from this and for a long time now I have not heard from her a single incorrectly taken, false or broken note Now she is absolutely gorgeous in live shows, not only with her voice but also with her stage presence

@BigVoiceEnergy it is! Although we're having a lot of wind and today and tomorrow a bit chilly. Only 19-20C 😎 Still swimming with the dogs in the Mediterranean though.
Really great pick for a "comeback" video! Without probably even knowing it, you have selected a song that has deep roots in the dawn of Romanticism - the band have stated the lyrical and emotional inspiration for it came from none other than Franz Schubert's chillingly famous Lied "Erlkoenig". That's right, EPICA take their Classical roots seriously! With that said, it is easier now to explain the artistic choices such as the rise of tension throughout the track, the symbolism of the circle of fire in the night, and not least - the rhythm of the "hooves" in the piano line... That entire event was brilliant, Once Upon a Nightmare being a standout, along with Kingdom of Heaven part 3. But I recommend you listen to Rivers from this same event, very different and very cool.
Feed the Puppers! Good to see you back. lots out there waiting for ya, Arjen had another live Ayreon show (They Did TDTTWBD live!), Simone has new stuff out with Arjen, Also Dianne van Giersbergen (with Arjen) Nightwish has some new stuff coming . . .
You should check out the "We Will Take You With Us" uploads on the Epica channel. It's from about 20 years ago, and Simone's classical voice is even more present
There’s something really special about the symphonic metal operatic singers in their early days. I love hearing that transformation into that versatile symphonic metal vocal sound. This would be great to hear!
Wonderful to see you back on TH-cam! You were asking for suggestions, I don’t know if you have ever listened to Lovebites before, but I would like to suggest one their latest video releases, Edge of The World [Official Live Video from Memorial For The Warrior Souls], Asami gets a bit of a vocal workout and Miyako performs a very beautiful guitar solo as well as playing the piano.
Did you know that Epica are performing two concerts in Amsterdam next week, with full orchestra and choir? The one on the 20th will be livestreamed (and available for a few days afterwards), I think it costs money though. Later this year, in December, they will head to Mexico City and perform two special concerts, again with full orchestra and choir. Just FYI in case you're able to make it to Amsterdam (digitally) or Mexico (physically).
@@CharlieCalottaReacts I didn't think the livestream could sell out. But I think there are a few tickets left for one of the two shows in Mexico. If you have the means and opportunity to go, I think you should. I'm flying to Amsterdam in a few days.
Counting down to september 19th, The Symphonic Synergy! Their next concert @ Afas Live, with orchestra and choir live on stage once again…… Will be epic! ( live stream available too!)
Wow those high notes at 9:02-9:20 👀 I feel like it can be pretty difficult for a lot of opera singers to get that thicker mixed voice but she transitions back and forth so effortlessly. 😍
Truuuue Simone (and quite frankly all of the symphonic metal singers) have absolutely unreal flexibility when it comes to flipping between different styles
I've been waiting years for someone to make analize Omega Alive and I'm slo glad it's specifically Charlie and Once Upon a Nightmare. Kingdom of Heaven 1 from Omega Alive shows her as powerful as here in the operatic parts but with a much heavier musical background and also with some ballad parts, while Unchain Utopia, Omega and Victims of Contingency all show her doing these kinds of shifts on heavier songs and with astonishing stage setup. Now that they're doing 4 shows with full orchestra and choir and suprise guests, 2 next week and 2 in december, you'll have Epica content for months to cover. As fas as I know, Simone has almost never sung arias, at least outside Two great recent performances in symphonic metal have been Dianne van Giersbergen's A Symphonic Tragedy, showcasing her vocals as majestic as they can be and Xandria's You Will Never Be Our God. Also I would love for you to react to Celtic Woman's Over The Rainbow Live From Johnstown Castle which is a duet of classically trained sopranos (edit: one of them being 21 years old at the time) playing with their voices in a similar manner as Simone is doing here, and with an incredible stage setup and orchestra as well
Hey! Glad I picked this one too! These are awesome suggestions. SO much music to listen to and talk about. I'm feeling like digging into Epica for a little while is going to be great.
Yoooo just to catch you up, during lockdown I live streamed live reactions and when life got busy again I had to stop. Back with hunger to jump back into this awesome culture. Welcome!

She did it with the help of Arjen Lucassen from Ayreon. It’s an amazing album. There are several videos from the album on TH-cam. Wishing you all the best from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 🤘 Oh and the original version of this song on the album, the intro is done by an orchestra. Also worth listening to.

Hey, found you again! So good that you have a bit of time again to do these reactions❣️ Gorgeous performance btw! Guess An ocean of strange islands is already on the list? 👀
Interesting thing about the filming of that video, the cameraman had to have another guy tracking him to make sure he didn’t step into the fire. Have you heard Simone singing Ombra Mai Fu? It is on their Classical Conspiracy CD. There is a fan made video of it but not good visual quality.
nice cinematography teamwork right there! Also... she HAS sung opera arias? Thank you that's huge. I'd love to listen. I have some friends who sing that aria regularly, so I'd love to get one of them in to see what they think.

@@CharlieCalottaReacts It's not a very long song (about 5 minutes), so is there any chance you could do a compare-and-contrast analysis video with this live version? Good mate. Been on the road a lot singing. Out of the house about 8-10 months of the year, and very grateful for that. Finally got to a point where I feel like I can breathe and jump back in where we left off here.
In case it wasn't already mentioned, the album version of this song does not have the intro guitar/piano, it's just an orchestral intro. So while watching this for the first time I struggled to identify the song at first even though it's my favourite Epica song 😂
My top 3 bands are: Nightwish (Floor), Epica (Simone) and The Warning (DPA - all can sing) - Epica Omega Alive, the whole virtual concert is fabulous. Epica has just played the Symphonic Synegy concert with full orchestra and choir in Amsterdam (I was there) and will do that again in Mexico, December 7th. Your friend Nicole Maria should see these concerts!
New to your channel here my friend and great reaction thank you for the breakdown of what is hands-down my favorite band. Just subbed to your channel 🤘🏻
please check out Theater of Tragedy, their first album really paved the way for these symphonic bands back in the 90s. Also The Gathering is another great band
Glad you're back. As a fellow musician you know there was a lot of pent up creativity after the pandemic and everybody has been busy. Epica had their 20th anniversary. New Nightwish album. Sleep Token has broken onto the scene, their singer has such an amazing voice. You are spoiled for choice as far as music to analyze.
lol I've been chomping at the bit for that new NW album... keeps popping up on my Spotify, but that's definitely one I want to dig into soon. I've known sleep token for a little while but nothing new. Excited!
I just came back to this song. Since you posted it, Epica has released 2 songs. The first is The Ghost in Me (Danse Macabre) based on the Saint Saens original, and Arcana. Both are available live from their recent concert in Amsterdam with a full orchestra and choirs. Arcana may be the best Simone has done after this one.
Talking symphonic metal, I assume you know the new Nightwish album is out soon. They have released a couple already. VERY symphonic bias, but still metal, so far.
Hey great! All of the great symphonic metal I’ve been introduced to by viewers has really shaped my musical taste since this all started. Hope you enjoy

Of course he has the more appropriate question will be has the ever listened to Dimash. And by the way Simone cowers to no metal singer other than possibly the power metal level aspect of Brittney Slayes, but Simone’s opalescent purity, belting power u see here, her flawless head to chest and bank transitions and the most perfect pitch of metal vocalists that is only matched by Tommy Karevick of Kamelot. Simone is goddess from Mt Olympus and Epica is symphonic METAL done proper.
He's back! And Epica is GODLIKE!

One thing i love about Epica is how much they always seems to have so much fun during their performance. And because of Covid, i'm sure they missed that a lot so they went all in for Omega Alive :P
Anyway, don't fight your urge to watch it, do it!! I would definitely enjoy it and i'm sure i wouldn't be the only one! :P
It's good to hear more from you 😊
Amazing song and performance to come back
Coincidentally Epica is having an important show this friday with orchestra and they are streaming it worldwide too
Soon there would be brand new material to react to from this great band, and there's an upcoming album as well (from which they will probably do something in the show)
I’ve got my live stream ticket :)
@@CharlieCalottaReacts great!
It's good to see you again with the same love of music and professionalism as before.Welcome back and good luck!
Yo thank you! Happy to be digging in to the stuff I love with people who share the same appreciation for really cool singing
That entire event was brilliant, Once Upon a Nightmare being a standout, along with Kingdom of Heaven part 3.
But I recommend you listen to Rivers from this same event, very different and very cool.
Love this one!❤️ Will see them live in Amsterdam next thursday..with orchestra and choir🤘🤘🤘
Jealous!!!
I am so happy to see you again. I have missed your reactions!!!
Missed you too!
masterpiece of my favourite band ever. it just doesn't get better than this 🤘😎🤘
Feed the Puppers! Good to see you back.
lots out there waiting for ya, Arjen had another live Ayreon show (They Did TDTTWBD live!), Simone has new stuff out with Arjen, Also Dianne van Giersbergen (with Arjen) Nightwish has some new stuff coming . . .
Shoot thanks for the reminder… passed their dinner time. New Ayreon and Nightwish on the schedule 🫡
You're alive!? Great to see you back at it.
haha yeah :) better than ever actually. Burnout is a crazy thing.
Hello Charlie 🎉nice to see you again😊 greetings from the netherlands and yes Simone is great 🧡😘🍀
Hallo! Thanks for stopping by again :) had a great time visiting family in Amsterdam last summer. Can’t wait to go back
More Epica !!!
I’ve been aware of Lovebites and heard they’ve made a big splash onto the scene recently. Definitely gonna check them out!
Rivers with Apocalytica live at AFAS is so fricking beautiful!!
I did! I’d love to be there but unfortunately the live stream is sold out. Maybe I can book it to Mexico ✈️
@@CharlieCalottaReacts I didn't think the livestream could sell out. But I think there are a few tickets left for one of the two shows in Mexico. If you have the means and opportunity to go, I think you should.
I'm flying to Amsterdam in a few days.
@@CharlieCalottaReacts The livestream tickets are still available! :)
No you’re right. I got the wrong info. Just bought my live stream tickets.
Perfetto, starting with Epica
Planning more for the coming weeks, with some new Nightwish and probably within temptation, hopefully get some new recs from y’all :D
Counting down to september 19th, The Symphonic Synergy! Their next concert @ Afas Live, with orchestra and choir live on stage once again…… Will be epic! ( live stream available too!)
Just got my live stream ticket 🔥
@@CharlieCalottaReacts Did you enjoy it as well?
As fas as I know, Simone has almost never sung arias, at least outside
Two great recent performances in symphonic metal have been Dianne van Giersbergen's A Symphonic Tragedy, showcasing her vocals as majestic as they can be and Xandria's You Will Never Be Our God.
One of the most powerfull intros ever created
Plenty more to come 🫡
Talking about Epica or Charlie's self promotion? 😂😂😂
Lmao fair @Vogel2280
Never seen you or your channel before. Your pitch at the end won me over! Now subscribed and waiting for more 😀🤘
Yoooo just to catch you up, during lockdown I live streamed live reactions and when life got busy again I had to stop. Back with hunger to jump back into this awesome culture. Welcome!
Hey Charlie, it’s great to see you back. Your are looking great 👍
I really enjoy your way of reacting, even though I can’t sing like sh.. 😂
I subscribe to your channel again.
Thank you for reacting to my favorite band Epica.
Next week they will have a concert in Amsterdam which I have golden circle tickets for. For both nights!!! 🙌
They will perform with a complete orchestra and a choir just like they did in 2013.
Btw Simone released her first solo album on the 23 rd of August.
She did it with the help of Arjen Lucassen from Ayreon.
It’s an amazing album. There are several videos from the album on TH-cam.
Wishing you all the best from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 🤘
Oh and the original version of this song on the album, the intro is done by an orchestra.
Also worth listening to.
Awesome, these are super helpful, thank you! Wish I could make that concert…
@@CharlieCalottaReacts they also do two concerts with full orchestra and choir in Mexico in a few months. I don’t know how far away that is for you.
Just picked up the virtual live stream tickets
@@CharlieCalottaReacts oh great 👍 yes I forgot about that.
Luckily you found out yourself.
Have fun, I’ll be standing front row as I always do. So you might see me.
I’m the one wearing an Epica t-shirt. 😜
Ha! Great fashion for the event
Wow I watched your videos a few times long ago. I didn't recognize you without the mustache 😀
Clean shave and about 30lbs down from then lol
Hey, found you again! So good that you have a bit of time again to do these reactions❣️
Gorgeous performance btw!
Guess An ocean of strange islands is already on the list? 👀
You know it is :)
Great to see you here Pauline ❤️❤️🔥
Hee welcome back! 🎉😊
Yo thank youuuu
Interesting thing about the filming of that video, the cameraman had to have another guy tracking him to make sure he didn’t step into the fire.
Have you heard Simone singing Ombra Mai Fu? It is on their Classical Conspiracy CD. There is a fan made video of it but not good visual quality.
nice cinematography teamwork right there! Also... she HAS sung opera arias? Thank you that's huge. I'd love to listen. I have some friends who sing that aria regularly, so I'd love to get one of them in to see what they think.
@@CharlieCalottaReacts This is the fan-made video I think Mike is referring to, with footage from various crappy mobile phones scattered throughout the audience (plus a little bit of generic orchestra footage from Epica's later 2013 concert, which btw had the same orchestra): th-cam.com/video/OidxfaRSJLg/w-d-xo.html
Just gave it a check for audio quality and it’s definitely good enough. Will record this soon!
@@CharlieCalottaReacts It's not a very long song (about 5 minutes), so is there any chance you could do a compare-and-contrast analysis video with this live version? I think it's the best one in terms of looking visually at Simone's technique: th-cam.com/video/d3uoUgtdcvI/w-d-xo.html
Fan-filmed in Philadelphia in 2010. Some unsteady camera at the start, but it settles down.
I've seen alot of Simone outfit and looks over the years but this one for me is the most beautiful
Welcome back Charlie. "Rivers - A Capella" on this same album will blow your vocal mind. Please react!
Love rivers. I’m sure I’m not ready for the a cappella 😬
@@CharlieCalottaReacts here’s the video. Choir, A Cappella, haunting production.
th-cam.com/video/7geGtgjyQlI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZkoWIx9_vJ3Zwczp
This is in the full concert video, right?
@@CharlieCalottaReacts this is a live performance that’s part of the Omega Alive album. It’s not live in front of an audience. It’s very much like the Once upon a Nightmare performance.
You should hear "The Miner" too. It's AMAZING ❤
Nice to see you back. You also look slightly younger now.
Got a lot healthier after lockdown, a lot more energy too! Thanks friend, good to see you back too
I so did not recognise Charlie without the tash! xD. A great ballad to mark your return!
Wooooo naked faaaaace!
Welcome back Charlie! I had just been wondering how you've been doing. Allow me to suggest Adrienne's live sing-through of "Almosttown" by Seven Spires.
Whaddup raptor! Not the first request for this, so worth a watch :) great to see you.
@@CharlieCalottaReacts good to see you too! How's everything been?
Good mate. Been on the road a lot singing. Out of the house about 8-10 months of the year, and very grateful for that. Finally got to a point where I feel like I can breathe and jump back in where we left off here.
Yes!!! Welcome back ❤❤❤
I would love to see a reaction of Ren, "Hi Ren" ❤
A friend of mine who just started doing reactions told me about this one
@@CharlieCalottaReacts You will love it and it will make your brain melt....in a good way
In case it wasn't already mentioned, the album version of this song does not have the intro guitar/piano, it's just an orchestral intro. So while watching this for the first time I struggled to identify the song at first even though it's my favourite Epica song 😂
Oh that’s interesting, something more intimate here but would be cool with the orchestra
EPICA IS BEAUTFUL METAL
Truuue
Welcome back…
My top 3 bands are: Nightwish (Floor), Epica (Simone) and The Warning (DPA - all can sing) - Epica Omega Alive, the whole virtual concert is fabulous. Epica has just played the Symphonic Synegy concert with full orchestra and choir in Amsterdam (I was there) and will do that again in Mexico, December 7th. Your friend Nicole Maria should see these concerts!
I think I saw you in the live stream. 🤣 check out my channel for more Epica
Epica is always a good choice. I don’t know about looking straight in to the camera though..😂
Lolol I’ve got a teleprompter so that’s where the video plays. does it creep you out? 🤣
New to your channel here my friend and great reaction thank you for the breakdown of what is hands-down my favorite band. I will say I am grateful to a number of very good symphonic metal bands like Therion, visions of Atlantis, Xandria, Nightwish, Delain and others that were my gateway up to the power and beauty of Epica! Just subbed to your channel 🤘🏻
Great suggestions, thank you!
please check out Theater of Tragedy, their first album really paved the way for these symphonic bands back in the 90s. Also The Gathering is another great band
Take a look at Simone Simons solo album and the new Nightwish songs. New album will come out on 20 septembre.
Can’t wait for that day
Glad you're back.
Excited!
bro, it's been so long I didn't recognise you without the beard
Getting cast as younger opera guys, need to look younger as I get older 🤣
I just came back to this song. Since you posted it, Epica has released 2 songs. The first is The Ghost in Me (Danse Macabre) based on the Saint Saens original, and Arcana. Both are available live from their recent concert in Amsterdam with a full orchestra and choirs. Arcana may be the best Simone has done after this one.
You should definitely check out Epica - In All Conscience (Omega Alive) :)
Will there be Twitch again?
NOT scheduled, but will definitely have some streams from time to time. I’ll announce here for sure if I plan one
Dude Seen her 5 times WOW YOUR MISSING OUT
For sure!
Watch the epica vidios from the wacken Show this is a wild epica Metall concert
Also, new Nightwish is out!!
It popped up on my Spotify and I had to resist hitting play 🤣
Talking symphonic metal, I assume you know the new Nightwish album is out soon. They have released a couple already. VERY symphonic bias, but still metal, so far.
Yes I heard. SUPER excited about this one. Nightwish was my first exposure to the genre so I’m really pumped to hear.
🤘🤘
React "Design Your Universe - Epica live at Retrospect" they're with the whole Orchestra, please!
Thanks for this!
@@CharlieCalottaReacts My Pleasure, and you know what, I'm still watching your other videos😅😅
Hey great! All of the great symphonic metal I’ve been introduced to by viewers has really shaped my musical taste since this all started. Hope you enjoy
@@CharlieCalottaReacts Once you're done with your Epica journey, you gotta check out Xandria with Dianne van Giersbergen on vocals!
Have you covered any Arias yet?
A few actually yeah.
18:27 ..one pronounces her last name like her first name... not SSaymons but Siemons That is how The dutch say her name, they know, she IS Dutch lol
I love how the AI completely butchers Simones name.... haha
And good effin seein ya charlie!
Lololol I tried so many iterations and that was the closest

Now that AI is a thing it’s too funny to not play around and meme on it haha. Good to effin see ya too Paul :)
Their last single is amazing to and prefer life version from the AFAS in Amsterdam last Semptember.
You can listen Addio Del Passato from Lara Fabian
Oh great idea!

Epica rules….. and now your back…Nightwish released a couple of new songs from the on 20th of September release new album…. Yesterwind…
Marking it down
ITS SIMONE SIMONES NOT SIIII MONES GET IT ??
Lol
Almost did not recognize you all clean shaven.

Yo thank you!
sick reaction, look into the camera less tho, you staring straight into my soul for 90% of the video is kinda terrifying. it was fun tho, and i wish you good luck in all of your careers
Hahaha thanks. Was trying something new. The teleprompter is great but I think it’s more for song lyrics and Twitch chat now. More Epica coming soon.
@@CharlieCalottaReacts nice nice, i recommend abyss of time if u havent seen it yet
Okay thank you
old epica is way better, check out solitary ground live paradiso or design your universe live retrospect
Old epica definitely has an edge. I listened to design your universe live retrospect with a buddy of mine a few years ago on the channel, it is unreal th-cam.com/video/zcO6oQnsXLY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jTeGW0csPKdfbh73
Don't teach AI to pronounce her last name wrong. 😅
He obviously hasn’t listen to floor Jansen 😊
Teehee
Of course he has the more appropriate question will be has the ever listened to Dimash. And by the way Simone cowers to no metal singer other than possibly the power metal level aspect of Brittney Slayes, but Simone’s opalescent purity, belting power u see here, her flawless head to chest and bank transitions and the most perfect pitch of metal vocalists that is only matched by Tommy Karevick of Kamelot. Simone is goddess from Mt Olympus and Epica is symphonic METAL done proper.
Got a fresh Dimash video in the works
@@jonathanratliff4780the problem is, he has no self-made music I have heard xD
