  • In our previous video, Simon reviewed the MG ZS EV (link at the end of this video). In this video, he goes for a long drive to see if he can get close to the claimed combined range of 440 km (WLTP).

    Not just related to the MG but I reckon that if the published figure for ANY EV car was a 'Typical Winter Range' (about 75 - 80% of WLTP, probably, in most cases) then there would be fewer 'range shock issues' for new EV drivers - with the bonus of there being 'added range' in the summer!!

    This test its giving good indicator how the car acting during the winter.
    However the test is ot much relevant due to the car was not on charge 100% when the test start.
    The battery charging and discharge is not linear function.

    Lovely to see the new ZS in action, just one question though, how long did it take at Mayfield to get your 16℅ charge afterall?.many thanks for this review.

      @nextecocar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Around 20 mins, averaged 31kW according to the screen on the charge unit. Charging speed generally isn’t optimal on any EV when starting from an already high state of charge.

    What did the MG charge at during the 1st charge? I'm guessing approx. 50KW, looked like an average charger. Would've been great to have seen the lovely Irish roads/scenery. An informative video, thanks.

    Great review, what was the high pitched screech from the charger in Gorey and could or would that happen from a domestic wall charger.

    Thanks Simon. Regarding the quote prices I got a quote of 38k after grants for the Exclusive. Which I thought was a bit much considering the advertised pricing starting at 32k. And as you mentioned it should be around 35k, so dealership markup?

      I’m not sure where the discrepancy lies, I know you had a cost breakdown. Only extra I’m aware of is paint and the V2L cable but maybe there are ‘on the road’ costs too? Which dealer did you go to Roland? My order is on a business lease so I’ve not seen a breakdown.

      I found it fine, I normally drive a Leaf 40 and didn’t notice much difference. The tyres are quite narrow compared to many of the recent EVs so that helps. Maybe I need to invest in a dB metre for future tests!

    I have seen many videos of people driving the ZS EV. In those videos, the car was very quiet. Why was there so much background noise when you were driving? Did you have a window open or did the others edit the audio in their reviews?

    • @IrishEVOwnersAssociationIEVOA
      @IrishEVOwnersAssociationIEVOA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably due to a combination of the road surface and the speed. Irish roads are not very smooth in most cases. It’s also possible that others have edited the sound.

      @Wooly Chewbakker I too was comparing the new ZS and 5, and literally the only thing that put me off the MG5 was that it still uses Halogen headlights... like come on MG... putting candles on an EV in 2021/22? at least this will be sorted come march when the new MG5 drops, but I ultimately went for the ZS EV in the end as I knew the government grant was changing and I didn't want whatever I bought to cost me an extra 2 grand!

    • @IrishEVOwnersAssociationIEVOA
      @IrishEVOwnersAssociationIEVOA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't swipe a credit or debit card at the charge points. You need to use either an app or a charge fob/card. ESB ecars offers a PAYG tariff or a subscription with slightly lower rates: esb.ie/ecars/price-plans/pay-as-you-go
