  • Hey guys and thanks for tuning in this week.
Join me today as I see if the slightly milder climate is making a difference to my MG4 SE SR efficiencies. In December we were looking at 3 mi p/kWh with an average temperature of 5 degrees Celsius on the 40-mile mixed road cycle and now we're entering double digits (Celsius) we have to see improvements and hopefully head towards October's 4 mi p/kWh.

Another intesting video! In February I made a round trip from Crewe to the Watford area, it was my first long journey and I was anxious to see how far I could go before worrying about recharging. On the way down, I did what speed I could to get there relatively quickly and charged the car part way down. On arriving, I realised I could probably have made the journey without stopping, so resolved to try that approach on the way back. This made me consider whether having a lower average speed would help the efficiency of battery use. On the return journey, I completed 141.6 miles at an average speed of 45mph with 4.0 mls/kwh, leaving capacity in the battery for a further 68 miles. This gave confidence of the overall capability of the MG4 on longer journeys. On a shorter journey, recently, I amanaged to get up to 4.4 miles/kwh for 25.5 miles with an average speed of 31 mph. The point of these comments is to demonstrate how the speed you choose can help the efficiency of battery use and extend the distance you cover between charges. Hope this is of interest. Barry

You’re rocking it Barry. It’s great to experiment and understand the cars limits, it puts you at good peace of mind during longer journeys. How far at this speed and how far that speed etc, weather conditions, passenger loads etc
I know my SE SR will do at least 160mi on a full charger in winter at a constant 70mph on poor efficiency but as soon as we get above 16 degrees it’s goes up and I’m expecting it well north of 4mi p/kWh in the summer which should push it over the WLTP, that’s the limitations of LFP in winter.
It sounds like you know what you’re doing👍

Hi Stuart, Thanks for your very interesting videos always look forward to the next one.
I have a MG4 SE sr , I have been home charging from 15% upto 100% then seeing how many mile I can get out of the car. When the battery is back down to 15% I note the mileage.
I have had 86miles, 130miles, 135 and 120mile . As you can see varies somewhat.
It cost around the £7 to charge up and costing to & from 8,1p _ 5,1p per mile.
On a long journey over a weekend 380miles at 3.9 miles per Kwh, very happy with that.

Hi Nicholas, thanks for the kind comments and tuning in.
That’s great that you’re keeping tabs on your daily efficiencies. Those figures, are they the distance travelled on 85% of the battery?
More evidence driving an EV is a good move although I appreciate it can be out of scope for some for various reasons.
3.9 is great. What’s your average speed for that?
      How are you finding ownership?

Interesting video. I got my Trophy a few weeks ago and only done one fairly long journey of around 160 miles round trip. Comprised a mixture of country roads and dual carriageway. Temperature of around 7-10C, heating on, radio on, lights on the return journey, just left it in Normal mode with no changes and averaged 3.7 miles/kWh - very happy with that.

I drove from Wolverhampton (West Mids) to Northallerton (North Yorkshire) in our Trophy LR on Monday (27th Mar), 65 mph on ACC, with the occasional rise to 70 for overtaking. Heater/AC only used if steaming up & managed 4.1 miles/kWh (160 miles in total). Temp 13°C 👍🏻 Used ‘Custom’ mode with Energy Recovery switch on 👍🏻

I've got my Mg4 long range. Drove from Rotherham to London using it. 4.4miles /kwh on the m1.
Used ACC in the slow Lane, set to 60mph, as I was nervous.
It did the journey easily. I'll go faster and be more aggressive next time.

    • @stuart_thomas
      @stuart_thomas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

That’s great to test the waters first. 4.4 is fantastic, it’s a lot better than I got on my 60mph range test but that’s 3-100% driving at that speed. Yes, try faster next time and see what a difference it makes for you. As I say to most people, knowledge is power and it’s good to get to know the car and understand it’s limitations, you can make better calculated choices if you’re in a unfavourable situation .

I've got a 2020 ZS EV and I'd expect 3.7 or more this time of year. My long term average is about 3.8 and my record is 5.2 but that was an exceptional trip. I know the things depend a lot of driving style but I had hoped the MG 4 would be a bit better than I've seen in reviews so far.

Obvs I can’t speak for the LR battery as it has a different chemistry but SR model with the LFP cells will do much better when it’s a bit warmer, it’s unfortunately an issue even Tesla endure with their standard range M3/Y.
