  • The MG ZS EV proved to be a huge success as one of the best value SUVs on the EV market. So what's changed with the latest version, and have there been any improvements?
    The original electric MG ZS provided a fantastic option as the affordable family EV, while punching well above its weight in spec. But with a couple of key areas letting it down, have MG now perfected the formula with the MG ZS EV Facelift?
    Our founder Richard Norris takes it through its paces to find out.
    Now available to view on the forecourt.
    Please call to book an appointment to view and test drive this great Electric Car.

    With the app on iPhone or android you can stop the charging before you go to the car and change the amount of charge it is being given. Once charging is stopped with the app you can remove the charge lead as soon as the car is unlocked. I’ve now done 4,500 miles in my long range Trophy and think it’s a very good car. Nice to drive and a great investment with fuel prices going up by the day. No mention of the cars app which is brilliant. So nice to turn the heating on with the app 20 minutes before you go out in the car on a cold winters morning. Or de-ice the screen in advance of getting into the car.

    Great review, full of accurate information and balanced opinion. I had the long range Trophy on test for a week and loved it. But as always a few negatives that I didn't think you picked up on. The electric drivers seat is nice but wish they had put a couple of memory buttons in. The steering wheel has no adjustment for height. The front seats cannot be lowered very far. My Android auto kept disconnecting. I could not find, no matter how hard I tried to adjust the fade on the stereo. Sounds like I'm having a go about the car but really not. It's by far the best value, very well put together, luxury feel family SUV available in the UK. With the tax break I will get, it's going to be my next company car later this year.

    I’ve recently ordered one of these. I was considering the MG5 at first, however I took the ZS EV out for a test drive straight after the MG5 and I preferred the ZS EV (much to my surprise). I’ve ordered the Trophy long range and looking forward to my first electric car.

      China are slowly hollowing out western companies and jobs. They cannot get traction with their own brands so they use western brands against us. This hollowing out will eventually empty out every single sector as they move all industries in house to China. Lotus knowledge will be sucked out and moved to China. The staff in the UK will be used and tossed aside. By buying a Chinese car, unlike any other purchase, you are directly supporting a Chinese Communist Party owned company. All car companies in China are directly or indirectly owned by the CCP. You are supporting CCP design, technology, and engineering. China are a self proclaimed enemy of western democracy and free people, that may sound like hyperbole but it is manifestly true. They are a communist/totalitarian regime. Partnership is not a part of their thinking process. It is the cover they use to slowly dismember western economies. They do not want partnership they want control and ownership. This is and will increasingly bleed in to political control and eventually erosion of western freedoms. China simply cannot allow freedom of thought or speech, it is not only antithetical but an existential threat to their regime. They need to extinguish freedom in as many places as possible. It is an innate need for all empires/civilisations to spread their model.
      We are walking ourselves in to totalitarian control. If you think it seems too far fetched then you need to think deeper and harder. If you think this process will be benign, you are wrong. China will slowly tighten their grip on democracy, it is already starting to happen, they constantly require other nations to limit their speech. On the current course, in the not too distant future, your government will be controlled by China, directly or indirectly, you will not be allowed to change your government, and your government will impose every single decision handed down by China. You will not be able to protest or question these decisions. You and your children will grow up without any freedom for the rest of your/their lives.
      As one example China forcibly sterilised and aborted their own women in the 80's, dragged them in to horrific surgeries, now the Uyghurs are being subjected to the same treatment.

    Great review getting mine ZS trophy long range end of April confirms all i thought about the car.
    I love the way you review cars not in a standard reviewer way that is looking for scratchy plastics and comparing apples to pears
    Or trying to judge a 30K car with the same standards as they judge a 60K car

    It is a great car and fantastic value. I ordered a long range Trophy last November, but I'm still waiting for a definitive delivery date... On the up side, my dealership was smart enough to register my order for the EV grant when it was at £2500 for anything under £35k, so I will get that rather than the current lower grant, for which the list price of the Trophy would be too high to qualify. The price difference between the MG and a similarly spec'ed Kia E-Niro was sufficient to cover the cost of 2.5kW of solar panels on my garage roof and a 7kW home charging point.

    Coming to the end of a M3P lease, with our first bambino on the way - the MG ZS is looking like our next EV. Quite the change admittedly, but the price point and features seem great. Any intel on wait times? Our current lease runs out March next year so getting the wheels in motion now (excuse the pun 🙂). Great vid!

      My cousin has ordered a Trophy long range version & been told the lead time is between 4 & 6 months depending on the production "batching" - apparently they produce x amount of one spec, then x amount of another.

    I have a strange question. I hope to get one (though the waiting list is enormous. In Thailand where I live, the MG ZS EV is a connected car which I don't like. I have some chats with people on this and the question now is where the antennas for this are because I want to be able to disconnect them. Any idea?

    Excellent review. One small possible mistake. The one small gripe you had was the 'Faff' with removing the charge plug after charge. You stated that you had to switch the car on and go into the infotainment system to unlock the charge plug. I did not find this on the demo. I did exactly as I do with my first version model. I simply unlock the car main doors and the plug can then be removed. Or was I just lucky?

    • @Jordwm
      @Jordwm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s very annoying , trust me , have had mine for a month now and it will only let you remove the charger when you unlock the car if it has finished charging or is not charging . Other wise charging has to be stopped via the phone app or the radio display

    • @mikemarriott
      @mikemarriott 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jordwm Ahhh, now I understand. Yes, the charging has to be stopped on my first version as well, which normally happens via the smart charger. Still waitin for delivery of my facelift version after 4.5 months so far.

    My daughter is looking to go EV as she is sick & tired of paying over £200/month at the pump for the commute. She started with test driving the Renault Zoe, which she didn't like at all, then the Vauxhall eCorsa, which was nice, but for the same money as an eCorsa, you can get an MG 5 or an MG ZS EV. It's n no-brainer really isn't it? Nicer, larger cars, great range in the Long Range version & the same price... She prefers the look & drive of the ZS, even though the 5 is just as nice to drive... Now all she has to do is wait for delivery...

    • @DriveGreen
      @DriveGreen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a great move and all of the cars mentioned will do her well. The ZS does have something about it mind you and of the cars listed above, it’s probably what we’d choose.

    While I do love the ZS, I think claiming the 360 cameras are “possibly one of the best” is just plain overkill. The cameras are genuinely bad. They are like early late 90s CCTV cameras. Other than that, the car is definitely very good.

      definitely it is not the quality of the camera but insufficient processing power of the infotainment system that they intentionally lower the resolution of the camera for a much responsive camera view, actually they can mark up the price a bit for the AMD processor like what tesla do
