    I put my deposit down on a 2018 that will be delivered in January. I did that before you put out these two videos. Thank you for that, by the way. In the first video, you said you knew within five minutes that this would be your next bike. It was exactly the same for me. This was despite a lot of skepticism. All the standard concerns were at play. It costs too much. It’s HYUUUUGE. (Thank you, Mr. President.) I never thought I’d fit it with my 29” inseam. It’s weird and ugly. It’s a niche motorcycle. On and on with the reasons not to get this bike.
    Then I rode it. All my concerns went away, and I fell in love. I couldn’t believe the smile this motorcycle put on my face! This is “the” all around bike. Assuming you’re looking a touring or faired bikes, it is not huge...er...HYUUUGE(?)...when you’re on it. I should note that I test rode the standard height model. I ordered the low suspension model, though, because I know how much more manageable this already manageable bike will be. There aren’t a lot of low-slung tourers that can do what this bike does. For a short guy, this is a big selling point. It is not ugly when you come to love it, and there’s much to love in the details of the engineering. The more I look at it now, the more it tugs at my desire to ride it. It’s surprisingly, pleasantly light and agile. It’s confidence inspiring. It does everything well, and so it is not a niche motorcycle; quite the opposite. Cost notwithstanding, it screams practicality, capability and safety. The safety aspects of this motorcycle cannot be understated. For the 2018 model, they came out with a TFT display too. (Per BMW standard, you pay for it.) This cures one of the biggest complaints about the bike concerning the hard to read clocks.
    I have to say, though, that the criticism this motorcycle and it’s riders draw is alarming. The bike is expensive, and I mean very expensive. However, if it’s too expensive for some, I don’t see why they have to bad mouth the bike and its riders. It’s immature. Just don’t buy it. Market pressures/competition is a wonderful thing. There are a lot of very good competitors out there. Go for those. KTM is neck and neck with BMW, in my opinion. I can go on about good competition for this bike at both similar costs, and much cheaper costs. I think it’s too much of a digression, though.
    After riding the bike, then hearing the negative comments about GS riders being posers (“wankers” in the UK?), I think this response is also immature. The thing with motorcycles, for the vast majority of riders (at least here in the USA), is that they are NOT practical vehicles. (Note that we can only lane split in California.) They are vehicles we ride for the joy of riding them. Why would you judge a person’s joy? Just talk to them about it, compare notes and increase your own joy. I have never seen a motorcycle that makes me frown. Why would this one make anyone else frown and point an indignant finger? If we judged everyone the same as we judge riders of this bike, we would all drive 4-door, compact sedans. Admit it. By the way, if a rider is a tool because he rides a particular brand/type/style/price, he’s a tool in other ways too. You’re always going to run into assholes within any population.
    I bought mine as a do-everything bike, and I mean “everything”. It will be my bike for around town, commuting, touring, mountain carving, camping, and I am contemplating some adventure riding. I have every expectation that this bike will do all of it with aplomb. But most importantly, it will do it while putting a big ol’ smile on my face. While I’m smiling, I hope to meet a lot of riders and talk to them about their bikes too. So my hope for you is that you enjoy that bike, and don’t worry about the lack of heft in your wallet and negative comments. That’s to all of you, really. Because that is exactly what I’m going to do. We’ve only got this one life, after all.

    Thanks again for the videos. Cheers, mate.

      crusing275 I doesn't matter what you video for TH-cam it will take a bashing in the comments. You learn to develop a good understanding and a thick skin. I have done 1400 miles on it and I still can't stop smiling. It gives me more enjoyment then any other bike I have ridden. It doesn't do 0-60 in 2.9 seconds but the power delivery with the quick shift and sound is a total pleasure. As for the cost I don't put a price on enjoyment. We humans are supposed to explore if we don't it causes stress and anxiety. This bike is a fully equipped multi tool that a lot of people do not understand. Yes you can ride around the world on a Yamaha R1 but it would be incredibly tough. I need the full package. Never let the comments put you off mate you will truly enjoy it. Good luck and let me know how you get on.

      Crusing275, did you consider purchasing a 2017 model and save some money? I am on the same boat, and am not sure which direction to take. Any advice on your end?

    • @buddysinsight9834
      @buddysinsight9834  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jose Luis if you want my very honest opinion I think you should go for a used one with the gear shift assist. Save yourself a ton of money because they are pretty much the same bike. A bloke got an immaculate GSA TE on the same day as me and he saved £5k. I lost £5k when I rode a mile from the dealership. It would be lovely to have the new display but you will pay for it. If anyone asks me now I say look for one a year or two old with a full service history and you will be very happy. Plus your ownership period will be sensible on depreciation. I hope this helps

    • @crusing275
      @crusing275 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jose Luis, I concur with Buddy 100%. That may sound surprising, considering my choice. I’ll explain. You can save a lot of money buying a mildly used GSA. I’ve seen several examples. For me, however, there were two factors. It’s a luxury purchase, and I wanted it “just so”. Secondly, time is very important to me with the work I do. I spend two months overseas, two months at home and repeat. When I bought my last bike I spent all this time looking and looking for the right used bike, and I really lost a lot of riding time. So I realized time was more important than money, and I just decided to go all in and get the bike I want when I get back from a trip. My advice is, if you have time, buy used every time. I don’t regret my choice, but this will probably be my last new bike. Good luck in your search. I doubt it will be a difficult one.

    I brought my RT in for serving today. Sat on the exact same model. Couldn't get off of it,,,,,,I love my RT, but this thing just touched my soul. You can't explain it to anyone who doesn't feel it. Besides, the world would be pretty boring if we were all exactly the same. Great reviews! Thanks for sharing.

    I'm hitting my twilight years (turn 68 in a couple of months). My sister passed this year. Her passing made me realize how many things I still have on my bucket list. Owning a touring bike is on that list.
    While researching bikes, I've viewed hundreds of videos and visited all the manufacturing websites. Watching the videos I noticed that most people touring (especially in Europe) were riding BMWs. After watching your videos I may have to take another look at the GSA. I did some motto cross racing when I was younger. I never really got all the moto-X dust out of my veins. I think I still have four or five more years where I could do some modest off road riding. With the weather in west Texas you can ride for several months. Thanks for the videos. Like your bike.

      L Woods Hello mate.I am 47 and I wanted a bike that I was totally comfortable on. Also when you ride a GSA you get this really safe feeling on it. I chose it because you can just happily Cruise around for hours. I feel spoiled really with the features it has. It can go off road but I think it’s not ideal to do that. If it’s dirt tracks that’s fine but anything really heavy people get something lighter. It’s a joy to ride and tour on the way it gracefully takes corners. You should test ride one. I have things to tick off on the bucket list. Let me know how you get on👍

      L Woods I lost my very healthy dad to an unsuspecting brain tumour and that changed the whole families outlook on life. It’s partly why I wanted my adventure bike. I would love to ride around the world learning about people but life and commitments kind of take over.

    Bringing the bike into the house damn you have big balls.. I looked at BMW just couldn't believe that it was $10K more for almost the same machine elsewhere. I have met some strange people on BMW bikes it seems to be the arrogance that they have, that makes me not bother saying hello. It is almost the same issue with Harley riders whom assume that they immediately are in some type of brotherhood when they ride a Harley. BMW riders seem to think their in an motorcycle Gentleman's club. The reality is we are all riding a Motorcycle, so everyone needs to get off their high horse and just ride!!! Be Safe.

      To be honest with you on my BMW I haven't come across any attitude issues my self I tend to have a good chat with anyone who rides a motorbike no matter what there on. I get constant nods from super bike riders on it. When I ride superbikes you do find generally that harley riders don't acknowledge you. If anything I find Gs riders the friendliest of them all when in a biker cafe etc. I suppose everyone has different experiences.

      All your observations resulting in the your same conclusion means one the thing, the common denominator is you. You are the anomaly, not the Harley and BMW riders. They’re all doing one thing, riding and having fun. In doing so there is an intrinsic brotherhood & sisterhood.

    Excellent video Buddy and thanks for the tip of using straps around the centre stand. Something to note about the centre stand; mine started to rust after about 3 months and BMW admitted this was due to the poor quality of paint used. However, they offered me two options, either to replace it or have it repainted. I chose the latter; they removed it and sent it away to a workshop where it was stripped and then powder coated. They also fitted an additional clear, plastic covering on the central bar for extra protection. It is now several months later and everything is still fine. Cheers, Andy

    You parked it … in the kitchen! Freaking hilarious. Absolutely Brilliant! And of course - new bike, new camera - right! completely justifiable! I rode dirts as a kid; streets for a decade commuting to work. Got married … and 20 years later, I started stockpiling gear over two years, like a squirrel gathers acorns, hiding each item strategically …. Well done, mate.
    Now, regarding the key fob: why not? They are great with cars; you could lose it as easily as keys, and when they first came out - quite possible to lock it in the car.
    When you commute on a bike, go run errands, keyless is wonderful. Honestly, I left the keys in the ignition numerous times hopping off and on , by mistake.
    There is no issue to live in the 21st Century …. Enjoy!

    I went with the 1250 and quickly returned it in favour of a 1200. Sounded like a nail (that horrendous left cylinder noise). BMW were incredibly arrogant and dismissive. Anyway, if you stick with a GS maybe move it on at the end of the warranty. $2k for a headlight and even more for when the rear suspension unit fails. Swear my Harleys never gave me any trouble but BMW..... It's all marketing BS.

We have cancelled the CCM Scrambler today it was supposed to be here in October and it's still not here. Plus they want to put a plastic tank on them now. It's supposed to be a handmade uk bike and it's started to not feel like one

    You forgot to mention that the riding mode not only adjusts the throttle sensitivity but is also adjusts the sensitivity of the ABS and Traction Control. Dynamic will make the throttle very responsive and back off both the ABS & Traction Control. Rain mode will back off throttle response and increase the sensitivity of ABS & Traction Control allowing both to cut in more easily if things get out of shape. The reason why the screen adjuster is on the right and angled toward the left is so you can adjust the screen height with your left hand enabling your right hand to remain on the throttle at all times

      Good luck with your viewing I actually sold mine which I hugely regret. I just can’t believe I sold it because out of all of the bikes I have owned in my life that was my favourite. Yes they are big but honestly that was one of my favourite things about the bike. If you wanted to get across country fast the low slung engine allows you to corner like your on rails. Mixed with the grunt and sound of the boxer engine made every journey so enjoyable. I can’t ride at the moment because of vaccine and covid damage but hopefully I will be able to again one day.

    Sadly cannot afford this but I can understand why if you can you would buy it. I can never understand why anyone who cannot afford something would slag it or its owner off. Having said that I am on my second older 1200GS after experimenting with a Cross Tourer which is another good bike but it just doesn't have the characteristics of a Boxer engine for me. Took me many years to find the appeal of a Boxer engine but now I have its the only engine I ever want. If I should win the Lottery and can afford to get one of these I will let you know but for now enjoy your bike.

    The Yank Blue Beemer here. Might I suggest you do a GPS-INCLUSIVE comparison between the Multistrada Endure and the GS 1200. I think one of the biggest differences between the operation of the two bikes is the electronics suites. All other reviews cover the mechanical and ride differences but no one covers the details of operating the different systems while riding.

    The new camera looks great, and if you drop it in a lake, you will probably catch a trout lol. Gorgeous bikes, you probably need more protection, if your the type to have your bike in the kitchen, and then buy a camera, your obviously into xtreme risk taking. Very inspirational, definitely a bike that calls out to those who love the look etc, very awesome. Thanks for sharing, and god bless.

    I have also a 2017 GSA, I am 195cm tall and find the bike absolutely rubbish regarding wind noise and buffeting. I have tried all sorts of windscreens in every height available together with different saddles in high and low position, without any improvement on wind noise and buffeting. Next month will try a different helmet, if that won't work then I will consider to sell my GSA and never ever buy another one again.
    Do you have any suggestions about this issue?
    Another thought about using the fog light at all times. In some countries in middle and eatern Europe you might get a fine to do such a thing. In some of these countries fog lights can be used only if weather conditions are bad (low visibility, fog, heavy rain etc.)

    • @buddysinsight9834
      @buddysinsight9834  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JT K I chose the lower model because of a few reasons. I have a 30inch inside leg so I can't ride the standard model. Also people say it handles better. When you are kitted out with all your touring gear you definitely need to have your feet flat on the road. I have it on single rider mode so the bike automatic lowers it's self.

    I have a 65 reg GS Triple Black. I love the bike. Spend a lot of time researching accessories, adding accessories, etc. I'd love to keep the bike for the rest of my days, but I feel there is one thing and one thing only that may force a trade-in on a new GS, and that is the gearbox! One day, I might get around to doing some TH-cam videos on the customisations, etc. that I have done ... things that I have had to discover myself. Anyway, enjoy your GSA TB ... and ride safe.

    Have you tried putting any bike onto the centre stand when either of the tyres, but especially the rear, is flat? Harder than you think as the pivot point and over centre has moved with the drop of two or three inches. If I thought that I was brave enough to replace my car with this for nine months a year, I would be tempted, but UK autumn through spring early morning temperatures and frost/ice risk put me off. I have to be on the road by 5.45 am year round.

I assume you, and everyone who decided to purchase a 2017 vs the 2018 at this time of the year is because of the savings. I am on the same boat and not sure what to do... Any thoughts on the matter are greatly appreciated. Btw, how much savings should we expect to receive?

It’s tiny and you personally hide it in your jacket. 👍

    To change either the riding mode or switch between soft normal and hard suspension it's easier just to select the one you want to go to so it shows up on the disply, then pull in the clutch, it changes immediately.

    Size matters! Love the big road presence I get when I'm riding.
    Apart from the Michelins they come out with, this bike is faultless.
    If you can afford one, get it!
    My tips after 1 year ownership;
    -ride with auxiliary lights on always but not angled up to piss people off.
    -switch to Conti tkc70's tyres
    -Remus8 can
    Can't imagine having any other bike ever as it would be a compromise.

    Great two vlogs mate, I nearly bought the 2017 Triple Black, it came down to testing back to back with the XR 1000 and the XR smoothness won, but I think in time when the hooligan inside me disappears I’ll end up with one. Loved the riding comfort and I like the new TFT screen. One question I have for you is at the start of this video your headlight looks to flash on and off when you’re riding, is this an optical elision or is It happening?

    Hi, im picking up a Ralley this weekend, trading in my Multistrada. What i wanted to ask, the keyless fuel cap, on my Multi, i have one, and the way it works is that you turn the engine off and you ve then got 20 seconds to open the cap, it had nothing to do with the key being in range. Can you confirm you do need the key in range or not. Cheers mate great review.

    • @buddysinsight9834
      @buddysinsight9834  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Williams Yes the key needs to be within 1 meter of the bike to open it. Be careful because it also needs to be close when you click it shut as well. Basically the key allows the little locking pin to move. It’s one amazing bit of kit but you really have to make sure you don’t lose the main key and back up one. The bike gets better the longer you own it and I can see why people buy a second and third. Enjoy it mate

    Other than the seat height, are there any other changes with the "low "model? For example, I know Harley Davidson Low touring models also have thinner grips.

    • @buddysinsight9834
      @buddysinsight9834  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jim Craig As far as I know there's no other adjustments. I could have gone for a lower seat to help with the height. There's one thing I have noticed that's helped me loads. When I set the dynamic ESA to single rider the bike electrically lowers itself which for me really helps my ability to handle it. Even with a pillion I keep it on this setting. 👍
