Room temp snacks are always bad news, unless we're talking chips and nuts. My worst case of the both-end squirts was at a buffet in Brazil. Room temp crab and cheese...never again, three days of misery.
As I watch the video and I saw that you had tried the chicken that was room temperature I had a feeling that was probably not the best decision. And then when you alluded to their being an issue the next day, I guarantee that was probably the case. You can’t let chicken sit for any long period of time at room temperature. It is an extremely bad idea as you have found out my friend. I hope you are feeling better now. I’ve had food poisoning and it is not by any means. God bless you, my friend. Air India always makes sure to give passengers lasting memories either inflight or outside flight. Lucky passengers get a taste of both 😆. I had similar experience on Etihad (Abu Dhabi) to NYC when they served sweet potato as side dish, unfortunately, I got sick during the 16 hr flight. It was terrible experience.
Great flight, minus the airsickness! I didn’t realize that Air India picked up the former Delta 777s. I hated to see them leave the fleet, I got to experience one of them, ship 7105, on a trip from ATL to LAX in 2019. It had been freshly fitted with the D1 cabin, which was probably the nicest flight I’d ever taken. Good to see one of them still turning in miles.

Sorry about your food poising, hopefully you recovered quickly. The first overhead airport shot you showed in California is my home airport, Santa Rosa. How cool! Have you ever flown in / out of Charles M Schultz Sonoma County Airport? They have been doing lots of upgrades to the airport over the last decade, and now have several airlines who operate here.
Proves that you don't need to be in geographical India to get food poisioning. It can happen in the sky flying away from the country too. Air India, have your staff take a food safe course immediately to keep passengers safe. 16 hours? Noel you are a beast!

@noelphilips i guess that's why business and 1st class cost so much more...the things you get. Im going to Korea in January... jfk to icn...but all I can afford is economy. I'm sure it will be nice though.

Indeed! When I first took up a new job in India, back in 2001, in Delhi, I went curry mad. I love curry and it was literally curry overload. I was staying in the Taj Mahal New Delhi until I found a suitable residence, so I don't think it was food poisoning, more just system overload! But I couldn't leave the hotel room for 2-3 days, so bad was my stomach! Once I adjusted, i I could eat anything and not have a problem. I lived in India for 5 years and loved the food.
why bring antibiotics when India is where most drugs are manufactured and it has extremely lax prescription laws? just get them there. and make sure you aren’t taking them for a viral infection
Last summer, I did a 6 week Southeast Asia trip (Laos --> Vietnam --> Philippines). I was pleasantly surprised at how much they improved as I did not contract food poisoning at all on that trip. Apparently, India hasn't improved that much yet.

Get better Noel. You ate that Garuda Bird with a special sauce. When doing business traveling in south Asia . I was so sensitive to this I could never eat or drink out of a 5 star western hotel. I feel for you
Hey Noel I’m so sorry you had a bad experience with air India on your recent flight I’m happy that you loved my home town airport. Please give air India a few more years once all the aircraft are delivered you will have a much better experience with them.
The new terminal at BLR is great and much nicer than the old terminal I flew into and out of in 2022. I have been to that business lounge, and it is very different from the regular run-of-the-mill. When the European flights are leaving overnight, the whole place is a lot busier then. I'm kinda pleased your experience was similar to ours. Also, security is variable in India we found.
I flew out of Bangalore recently with BA. The worst plane food I have ever experienced. So much so I left it! Wouldn’t be surprised if the same caterers are used for multiple airlines.
Thanks Noel, for real. You know when it is sufficiently bad to report it.***** Watching all the hundreds of flights with videos of (slop, just pig slop) meals served, it is a miracle this is the first poisoning I've seen.
Love your videos. I've only got food poisoning twice in the same hotel going in different directions. I stopped in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 🇲🇾 as a stop over, going too and back from the UK. Going to the UK, the food poisoning didn't hit until I landed in Heathrow. When I came back to the same hotel on my way home back to Australia. I was at that hotel for less than 24 hours. It was more likely 12 hours. I had their buffet breakfast. It tasted very nice. I headed out to see the twin towers. Where I was walking around a shopping centre, I began not feeling well. I grabbed the first taxi back to my hotel. They say in Malaysia you have to barter the taxi fair. I didn't care, I just wanted to get back to my hotel. I think he charged me 20 Malaysian Riggits. I didn't care. I paid him and ran back to my room within minutes of me returning to my hotel. I became extremely unwell. I was extremely sick. It was so bad that my bathroom was covered in vomit. I had to ask housekeeping for a bucket. As it was coming out of both ends. I called the receptionist of the hotel asking for a doctor to come to my room. The hotel tried to convince me to take a taxi to a hospital. No taxi driver in their right mind would take me. They relented and got me a doctor. The doctor was fantastic. He gave me an injection to stop the vomiting and diahrea and a few sachets of electrolytes to rehydrate me. The doctor said that I had a very bad case of food poisoning. He was very concerned about me as I was travelling alone. So, he called me the next day just to check up on me. I went down the next day to the reception and paid the 800 Malaysian Riggits for the doctor. The hotel staff didn't trust me. They ordered me to sit as I looked extremely sick. The staff thought that I was going to collapse on them. I used their computer while they were doing all the paperwork for my doctor. They emailed me a questionnaire about their service. Of course, I told them that I got food poisoning from their breakfast. Later that day, I received a knock at the door. There stood about 4 men. The hotel owner, the hotel manager, the kitchen manager, and someone else whom I don't know what they did. They questioned me on everything I ate and whether it came from them. I told them I only ate at their restaurant. They jotted down everything I ate. They even gave me something in compensation. You'll never guess what my compensation was. It was a complimentary meal at one of their restaurants. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you have food poisoning. The last thing you're thinking of is food. I would rather have a gift voucher to the gift shop than a free meal. It was a good thing that I was in Malaysia for a week because that's how long I was sick. On my last day, I had the strength to eat my free meal. I chose their most expensive restaurants to eat. While eating my meal, the kitchen manager kept checking on me, making sure that everything was OK. He asked me about the time my flight was to Australia. It was around 6am. if my memory serves me correctly. The buffet wasn't open then. So, he asked me what I like for breakfast, and I would get room service on them. I told him bacon and eggs and coffee. Morning came, and so did my breakfast. I was just expecting a couple of slices of bacon, a couple of poached eggs, and a slice of toast. Well, it was more likely a mountain of bacon, a half a dozen eggs, a half a loaf of toast, 2 orange juice, 2 coffees, and 2 fruit salads. I was still full from the night before and still hadn't fully recovered from the food poisoning. To say the least, I couldn't eat it all. I was surprised that my flight on Malaysian Airlines could fly with me on board after eating that mammoth breakfast. I was glad that I had 7 days in Malaysia as there would be no way I could fly in that condition.
Delta had that same Tumi amenity about 7 years ago. You could bring the amenity kit to selected Tumi stores and they would monogram the kit for you. That's what the 3M sticker was for.
Great video... Sorry about the food poisoning. I was a little suspicious of the way the Diet coke was served. Wondering if they used local tap water to rinse the glass before pouring your drink in Bangalore. Anyway, take care. Greetings from Sweden.
Welcome to SFO. I also had a minor bout of food poisoning after eating on the new Air India A350 business class. It was a shame because the flight and crew were magnificent and they served so much food, it was amazing!
Interesting approach into SFO. I've flown in hundreds of times, and I've never seen the Bay Bridge on approach. Usually, they fly in from the south, flying over the peninsula. Ever since I was a wee spud (dad worked for UAL), I always took the window seat on the portside (usually A1!) so I could look down and see our house! Yeah, we lived in the flight path - and my folks indulged in lots of plane-spotting. Mom could even tell me where the (United) planes were coming from. Mom was my pre-cellphone FlightTracker! 😂
My very first international flight (ATL-NRT) was on that aircraft back in 2015 when she was still N707DN! I even have a model of it to honor the significance of that plane to me. I wish Delta still had their 777s so they'd have a little bit more flexibility to expand internationally, but I'm happy to see it in service with someone making use of that expensive Delta One interior.
I lived in the Middle East for 3 years in the 90s and the ONLY time I ever got food poisoning was from a very expensive high end Indian Restaurant. All of the times I ate in street cafes I never had an issue
I'm sorry about your food poisoning. Tiresome trips will definitely compound the issue. I'm glad you look better, and I'm looking forward to the next video (after some good rest, of course). Cheers!
Something I have always wondered, how does the seatbelt work on a lie flat seat? Are you still expected to have it on? How tight, in case you turn? Is there enough room to sleep on your side?
Is that a BOAC VC-10 in the display case behind you? I was fortunate to fly on one when I was like 10 years old from JFK to LHR, my favorite plane of all time to this day. Once again great video.
Another great Noel review. Hard product looked pretty good. I wouldn't eat anything that was at room temperature - although it's possible you picked something up in the loo or just touching something. Good that Air India appear to have improved.
Everything was great in the video until you got food poisoning because of chicken tikka, but from my experience I could tell you that it could be the mint chutney/ dip that might have caused you this as when coriander leaves are not washed properly might contain bacteria in them or it could be stale and eating large quantity of chutney might triggered the stomach infection but as far as Air India is concerned they have done a nice improvement 👍
You haven't lived unless you've been stuck in a tiny lift, in the old Air India offices in Mumbai, after office hours on a Friday evening. And you have to wait a while for them to get someone to come and crank the lift door open and crawl out between floors! Yes, I was stuck in that lift with the then Director of Security and one of his managers, after a meeting about supplying some security apparatus, back in 2003. It was like sardines, the three of us in that small lift.
To be Honest Noel, I'm surprised you haven't gotten sick a lot more, you've got an iron gut, some of the stuff you eat on those planes is questionable at best! feel better soon!
Hey Noel! Welcome to SFO! Sorry it was uncomfortable after the fact, hope you're better now. BTW already use AirALO. Love it. Wouldn't have made it through either South Africa, Vietnam or even my last UK visit without it!
Just for some background: I am an infectious disease epidemiologist and physician specializing in travel and tropical medicine. Even the most rapidly replicating GI infection-undoubtedly bacterial-would take at least 16 hrs to manifest itself, and almost certainly more than 24 hrs. As contaminated as the food may be on the plane, it probably has nothing to do with the symptoms.
What kind of misinformation are you trying to spread, I've gotten food poisoning that happened less than 16 hours after I ate the food in question, heck it was more like 5-8 hours, not to mention many other high profile food poisoning cases (recent one I can remember is the one from the Bytedance HQ in Singapore) certainly take way less than 16 hours. Honestly anyone can come on here and say "I am an infectious disease epidemiologist and physician specializing in travel and tropical medicine".. ridiculous.
@@discorangutan "High profile food poisoning" - what does this mean really? Getting showcased on CNN for puking your guts out? I don't disagree with your comment but that comes across as an absurd statement
The ID Doc is correct. I am a primary care Nurse Practitioner, it just takes time for the bacteria to become pathological meaning symptomatic. Also, many people who believe they have food poisoning actually had a sensitivity reaction and not a true infection. This is quite common when people consume diets they are not used to. Trust the science.
Agree about Air India I flew with them back in the 90s from Heathrow to Delhi. The flight had come in from New York and was a 747 which was none to clean and the seat was quite worn. I liked the way the outside of the aircraft was painted with little Indian arches round the windows. But the inside was a different story. The cabin crew were not very polite either.
As a 6' 10" fellow tall person I tend to agree with you about the doors. Its not really private when my head sticks up above the walls of the suite. Although the one benefit I have found to them especially if I happen to be seated near a lavatory is I don't have random people crowding up and pushing into my suite.
The food poisoning was probably a freak accident rather than an indicative of the general product. If they’re were regularly giving people food poisoning that would probably become a talking point in aviation circles anyway
If they'd heatet up the chicken properly on board he would have been fine. Seems like the cabin crew on galley duty wasn't trained well. And yes, that actually happens to pretty much every airline it's just that these mostly are single events
Good on you for still recommending them in spite they made you suffer from food poisoning. As per their improvements and their position in the future, I think they will be in a okay-ish airline . It would have been very tough for you to recommend considering what you have gone through after the flight have safe journeys.
Sorry you weren’t well mate. There were hints on the way: 0:41 elevator doors opening sounded like a toilet flushing. The “Tumi” amenity kit 😔 Aside from that, they have improved by the looks of it ☺️

I flew Air India as a boy with my family from JFK to Rome. It was a 747, which hadn't been out that long in 1971. It was fascinating. The interior decoration, and the stewardess at the time, were culturally on point. Good memories.

Just what i was going to say! That would have been hell on wings for everyone on-board, not to mention just trying to get through the airport being that sick. So relieved to see him home safe! Have an awesome week, my friend🤍🙏🕊

I did quite a few SCUBA diving liveaboards in the red sea and always got some stomach bug, I actually think that the 'chefs' had no idea about bacteria. Immodium FTW. that said you can get bacteria on your fingers from handles, etc, then transfer to food like chapati as you hold it.
"Don't forget to pack in the Imodium" - this quote needs to go onto a t-shirt😝
Remembering, of course, that the generic *"loperamide"* is exactly the same stuff, but a fraction of the price!
Had a friend who was very careful on what he ate and drank. Still got amoebiasis. Turns out, though he got mineral water, its was the ice that got him.
He was very careful about what he ate and drank and he drank something with ice in it?
Even children know that you should avoid ice in India or other developing countries 😂

Just got back from a 3 week trip in Manila. Thank you Noel Philips for filling the void between now and the next trip.
At 8:42 … As an Indian, I can translate the meaning of that name for you : it’s actually spelled ‘Khamba’, in the native language, which stands for a thick wooden post, driven into a hole. There. Now I hope that helps you take your mind off dirty things? 😜
I look forward to your videos every Sunday. Starts my week off with a smile generally. As I said, I hope this time you are feeling better and the food poisoning didn’t stick with you too long. Just remember, don’t eat room temperature chicken and I think you’ll be fine. God bless.
Food poisoning with something india related. How shocking and surprising. 100% wouldn't expect that
Air India always makes sure to give passengers lasting memories either inflight or outside flight. Lucky passengers get a taste of both 😆. I had similar experience on Etihad (Abu Dhabi) to NYC when they served sweet potato as side dish, unfortunately, I got sick during the 16 hr flight. It was terrible experience.
Glad to have you in San Francisco again, Noel! Sorry you had to spend your time here in pain. Hope you’re better!
Hope you are feeling better by now, Also its good to be back to the US, The scariest thing is to get sick abroad in a country that you are not familiar with , Always a pleasure to watch your videos .That triple 7 is such a beast. get well soon dear Noel.
And then what pay with your kidney for medicals in us. 😂
As a nervous flyer although still fly regularly, you make me much less nervous and I'm definitely going to download some vlogs to watch next week as I hate take off and you are very calm hahaha! Love the regular and consistent content! X
My whole Family (including me) got a Norovirus on the last flight. I never heard or had this before, but it's not uncommon to get this on a flight 😥
Proves that you don't need to be in geographical India to get food poisioning. It can happen in the sky flying away from the country too. Air India, have your staff take a food safe course immediately to keep passengers safe. 16 hours? Noel you are a beast!

This may be a silly question, but since I've never gotten an amenity kit (the cheap seats don't get them).... do you get to keep it all including the PJs? Wish I could afford business or 1st class, but I can't.
Yes you get to keep the amenity kit & it's contents & the PJ's.

Last summer, I did a 6 week Southeast Asia trip (Laos --> Vietnam --> Philippines). I was pleasantly surprised at how much they improved as I did not contract food poisoning at all on that trip. Apparently, India hasn't improved that much yet.

I’m happy that you loved my home town airport.

I always figured the doors on plane seats acted like a do not disturb sign.

Thanks Noel, for real. Excluding China, India poisons more people than the rest of the entire world combined.
That lounge is swamped at 3:00 in the morning.
Cheers!
So sorry that happened to you! Hope you are fully recovered.
If I was on a long flight I think I’d stick with bagged snacks and water as my “meal”. I’ll survive lol
Something I have always wondered, how does the seatbelt work on a lie flat seat? Are you still expected to have it on? How tight, in case you turn? Is there enough room to sleep on your side?

Really? Certainly the NHS advice suggests a lot more variability than you indicate, and how do you know it’s bacterial?
The ID Doc is correct. I am a primary care Nurse Practitioner, it just takes time for the bacteria to become pathological meaning symptomatic. Also, many people who believe they have food poisoning actually had a sensitivity reaction and not a true infection. This is quite common when people consume diets they are not used to. Trust the science.
I agree. It has something to do with Indian spices I believe that upsets Western stomachs. Not food poisoning.
They’ve just started flying their A350 into Heathrow, you have to try that one out plus stock up on Imodium 😂
Perhaps, but serving RT chicken does seem like bad practice.
It is already well known 😂
If they'd heatet up the chicken properly on board he would have been fine. Seems like the cabin crew on galley duty wasn't trained well. And yes, that actually happens to pretty much every airline it's just that these mostly are single events
Good on you for still recommending them in spite they made you suffer from food poisoning.
As per their improvements and their position in the future, I think they will be in a okay-ish airline

It would have been very tough for you to recommend considering what you have gone through after the flight have safe journeys.

I flew Air India as a boy with my family from JFK to Rome. It was a 747, which hadn't been out that long in 1971. It was fascinating. The interior decoration, and the stewardess at the time, were culturally on point. Good memories.
