    14:21 As the flight was chartered to EuroAtlantic, the EuroAtlantic crew will conduct all safety and security duties as they are rated on the type and in the aircraft country of registration. The LAM crew will be there to conduct the service ONLY as they are not rated on the aircraft type/ the country it is registered. This happens frequently with many airlines that do not have direct partners when faced with fleet constraints

      I flew once from Tbilisi to Yerevan on FlyOneArmenia...or was supposed to. We waited and waited and waited. Btw, I was the only non-local. (The locals in ex-Soviet countries usually think I am Estonian, Russian/other CIS or ex-Comecon)... And suddenly an unmarked aircraft (except a registration with a prefix I had never seen before) turned up at the gate. With an Armenian-Russian-BrokenEnglish-speaking crewmember for announcements and airplane plus rest of crew from Mongolian Cargo (!) Anyway there was no onboard service because TBS-EVN on a jet is a very short hop and I didn't mind who was who onboard since I could communicate with them all rudimentary in Russian... The Mongolian flight attendants were veeery cute and kind, btw, and I now have a Mongolian Airways Cargo A-320 safety card in my collection 🤭

    I'd done exactly the same thing in Guangzhou in China. I was flying with China Southern, and was supposed to connect through Guangzhou on a flight to Beijing, and then meet up with some friends and then we'd be catching an overland train to a 3rd city. Our flight was delayed due to weather and we missed the connection so they put us on buses and sent us to a hotel.
    Next morning on route back to the airport, they were trying to shepherd everyone back through an express security section (to reboard the flight and continue to Beijing) and I said I just needed to use the bathroom, ducked away from the group, got down to the train station and hopped on an express bullet train to the next city to meet my friends and ended up getting there 2hrs early!

    I saw a documentary about the Tenerife airport disaster (1977) and it was a similar situation concerning an escape. A KLM 747 headed for nearby Gran Canaria was diverted, along with many other planes to Tenerife. A woman tour-guide who actually lived on Tenerife also did an "escape" from the rest of the passengers and left the airport, instead of getting back on that ill-fated plane which would soon smash into a Pan AM 747 with a 100% fatality rate. She is effectively the only survivor from the KLM plane. Of course both Tenerife and Gran Canaria belong to Spain, so there was no way they could have legally forced her back onto the plane but in any case I think when there are diversions many air restrictions can be waived, though you don´t want to take the risk that the staff will still insist you getting back on.

      It's interesting that with international flights sometimes an "escape" is needed. Whereas for a domestic flight a traveler can simply choose not to travel. Realistically, unless immigration regulations/restrictions are involved, at traveler can simply refuse to board and just leave the airport. If immigration restrictions are involved, refusing to board would likely lead to forced boarding or deportation later on.

    I had a very similar situation happen to me a while back. Was scheduled to fly from St Louis to Orlando but a snow storm rolled into St Louis and grounded nearly all outbound flights, including mine. I was stuck in the airport until I saw a flight to Fort Myers was scheduled to leave. I needed to be back in Florida asap, so I switched from Orlando to the Fort Myers flight. We took off out of St Louis and then after a few hours they announced that they would need to make an early landing due to the “Lavatory being frozen.” And guess where we had to land, Orlando. 😂

    Lots of airports don’t have border force before getting to the departure hall (they would only have it before going to baggage claim). Also, a lot of airports disembark directly into the departure hall (Edinburgh, UK and Changi, Singapore spring to mind). So he may not have needed to clear security or immigration

    • @maijo2597
      @maijo2597 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Yes, this seems to be a relatively modern thing, especially with big, hub-type airports such as Singapore and KL. But UK? Really? I fly fairly frequently and I am sure that LHR does not have mingling of arrival and departure. One of the extremely annoying consequences of having a mingling of arriving passengers and departing passengers is the need for a double security check. So you have to go though security at the entrance to airside and you have to do it all over again at the general departure gate area. Really, really annoying. Or maybe that is just me. 😐

      But the main issue is whether he was flying internationally or not. If it was a domestic SA flight, then he would have needed to go through immigration first. yip, so he would only go through x ray and metal detector . and all they check is boarding pass and passport correspond...not immigration...he never entered SA...
      same as flying via Dubai, which is like a Fedex for people, they just offload the planes, chuck the people into the mall, resort them and reload them... security checks, but no immigraotion/customs. you thus never enter Dubai.. just check names and boarding passes.
      Johannesburg is the hub for Southern Africa, so plenty people transit to Botswana, Namibia, Zim and Moz through it without actually entering SA... you stay airside..Same for most Hub airports...Only Heathrow caused an issue with terminal 5 , which is seperate, and requires immigration and transit visas. Mate of mine was detained at heathrow for 24 hrs cos his travel agent had booked a ticket via Heathrow without informing him ( or did not know the terminal 5 situation) of need for transit visa (South Africans require visas for UK)
      It is only when you change to a local flight that you exit customs/immigration and they just want to know that your passport and visa are in order...the assumption being that if you are airside that you came on a plane from somewhere..so immigration does in any country does not check your boarding pass...not their job.
      only possible to do what he did without a checked bag. Leaving a plane with a checked bag onboard SHOULD cause alarm bells. I once spent 3 hrs on the tarmac at Charles de Gaulle due to a miscount of the heads that ended in all bags being offloaded onto the tarmac and each of us having to put our bag onto the conveyor back into the plane. When no bags were left over , they recounted and found the error... no apology!
      Skiplagging is a thing , especially in USA, but on their internal flights..
      I live in CapeTown and it is usually cheaper to fly to Venice in Italy via Dubai than it is to buy a ticket to Dubai...on the same plane...Vagaries of airline pricing.. I however would not try this stunt with the Dubai authorities 🤣and have thus been in Dubai on numerous occasions, but never entered it.

      If there was a checked bag, and the bag's owner did not re-board, would the airline be required to remove the checked bag from the airplane, because "unaccompanied" luggage (a bomb?) is prohibited from being carried? Also, if there was a checked-bag that was tagged to Noel's final destination (Jo'burg ?), the airline's responsibility is to carry it there. Granted, it may take a week for the airline to reroute it to Jo'burg, and to notify Noel of its final location. Noel did say that he had another flight (on another airline?) that day. Noel may have needed to eventually physically return to Jo'burg to claim his bag. So, not having any checked bags was the key to this "escape".

    It's not nice at all to get your meal substituted like that, but for me choosing lamb but somehow ending up with octopus would be nothing but a win. That looked _sooo_ good and now I want some.

    *_International flights can be like that. We were supposed to leave Karachi on a specific day, but a Baggage Handler strike in Mumbai threw off all the flight schedules in that part of the world, so we grabbed the first flight we could the next day and basically ended up playing hopscotch across the globe until we made it back to the States. Very fun video, but are you technically an International Fugitive now?_* 🤣

      Noel was already in the arrival terminal and by taking the transit lane, he ended up at the security check where they only require an onward ticket out of South Africa, and then stamp the passport with a " transit stamp", then off to the boarding gates for his next flight.

    The Euroatlantic crew is the flying crew that are type-rated and employed by the AOC holder. The LAM crew is there to do service only and are not type-rated on the aircraft and are not allowedrun the aircraft systems. You shuold know this Noel...

      I am a cargo airline pilot. It makes zero sense to me to carry non type rated LAM pilots on this flight so I would assume all the pilots are from Euro Atlantic . Training( every 6 months we have retraining)and paying pilots is a very expensive affair and I can guarantee you no airline would train and pay pilots just to offer service or not operate the aircraft. As for cabin crew I would assume the LAM crew are also issued a validation/ conversion to EASA to operate the Euroatlantic aircraft. It is much easier to convert Cabin crew as for pilots it is much harder and expensive. Legally things like evacuation require type rated crew at the mandatory exits so it does not make sense to have LAM cabin crew who can not handle their station during an evacuation.

    Euro Atlantic is a Portuguese wet-lease airline, and while it leases planes and crew to airlines all over the world, its focus is on the former Portuguese colonies in Africa. It operates flights for the national airlines of São Tomé and Príncipe, Angola, and Mozambique, some of which are or have been banned from EU airspace with their own planes or might not have the financial means to afford a long-haul jet (though TAAG Angola Airlines do fly their own 777-300ERs to Lisbon as well, yet it wet-leases Euro Atlantic's planes for some flights).
    And Noel, if you love Lisbon and "custard tarts" so much, it's time you learned their proper name, it isn't so hard, and they might not understand you if you ask for a "custard tart". Singular form: *"pastel de nata"* (in the approximate local pronunciation, "pash-TELL-DNAH-tah", like the Dubai-based catering company). Plural form: *"pastéis de nata"* ("pash-TAYESH-DNAH-tah"). The name means literally "cream pastry".

    • @goytabr
      @goytabr 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sachaquadrelli4674, not exactly true. The little tart is called "pastel de nata". But there is a specific bakery in the Lisbon district of Belém that makes particularly good and renowned ones, and THOSE are "pastéis de Belém". Elsewhere they are just "pastéis de nata".

    Speaking of Swifty’s . QANTAS was under pressure to reduce flights from Sydney to Melbourne (which is only about a 70 min flight) so they used an A380 to fly Swifty’s to Melbourne for the concert.
