How they did it is mind boggling. How they kept their cool is just impressive. I don't understand it. I was panicking but they acted with too much calmness.
The way how the pilots handled just portrays how immense a training they need to go through, with the ives of so many people in their hand. Hats off to them and to the narration as well 👏
These pilots deserved rewards and recognition for managing successfully such exceptional situation. They saved 270 lives. It's a shame how the incident report was not even released.
While I applaud the great work of the pilots and ATC. I'm surprised no one is angry at Air India for not even submitting and incident report, let alone launching and investigation in to why these failures happened. 370 people including the brave pilots and crew could have died! It's shocking that this happened in 2018 and by the end of 2023, Air India have done nothing to find out what happened and how it can be prevented from happening again.
Wow. I'm in love with the pilots' professionalism. They were just calm. And related all Thier errors to ATC so calmly. The traffic controller at NewYork JFK did an amazing job. He analyzed the issues worked out an alternative Airport for the flight crew of AI 101. These people are,the type of people we need in other to make aviation safer. Even after landing at Newark, we were on the runway for a good hour or so. The passenger next to me called 911 to complain about Air India and its pilots not letting him off the plane and holding him captive on American soil. It got hot inside and the air hostesses were literally fanning the guy! I should have a picture somewhere. When we landed, someone remarked about it being September 11. Newark had ambulances and fire trucks lined up next to the landing strip! What a day -- and what a miracle to be alive; all thanks to Captain Rustom Palia! Hope to run into him someday and thank him personally.

Can't believe the fact that there is no investigation or reports on the incident. Shame on you Air India. Please don't wait for something to happen to act.
Shame on air india? No they worked hard to get the plane land safely and carried all the passengers safely with no injuries, the instrument failures were totally unpredictable and u can’t blame them for that! Instead of shaming air india , congratulate them for all the hardwork they put in , in order to get the flight to land safely
No investigation? Perhaps there should be redundant computer system. Life is priceless. Should learn lesson and take corrective action so human lives are not put at risk. Can there be better safety checks so the plane never takes off with such issues?
I've said this before and I'll say it now, Air India has some of the best pilots in the world. There is no doubt that they have to upgrade the aircrafts and amenities, but some of the best take-offs and landings I've had are with Air India. They have amazingly talented pilots, but they should invest in training their flight attendants. I hope Air India comes up (now that it has come home to the Tata Group) and soars even higher. Travelling to and from Japan in the B747 in 1996 and regular trips to and from the UAE from 2011-2017 have made me a lifetime fan of the brand.
Excellent storytelling! As a passenger on this route, I feel connected to all the souls on this flight. I wonder why Bollywood is not considering making a movie about this real-life event.

Great graphics. An experienced crew definitely made the difference in this case. I worked at JFK Airport for 15 years and I know how crazy it gets during inclement weather.
This is Air India for you! 7 minutes into the video and all I was hearing was the failures of various instruments. Air india (before acquisition by Tata - I can't comment on it now) has always been a badly managed cheap-ish airline which I would avoid at all costs. Have flown air india domestic flights and the planes really give you a sense of bad maintenance. Flying air india international is out of the question! I'm an Indian and air india just portrays our "chalta hai" attitude toward most things in life.
Reminded me of two times we had scare The presence of mind of Cockpit crew averted…… Air India pilots are the Best in the world I have worked with Air India in the 80’s Thanks for sharing God bless
Being a pilot myself (not commercial), the pilots did an astounding job with A101 heavy. Then the ATC's at JFK and EWR did an awesome job as well. Air India needs to really turn up their maintenance. Every system must work on an airplane. It's not a bus where you can stop and fix it en route. I am sure the incidents are reported and logged. They just didn't make a press release for already struggling airlines but the word quickly got around. I flew AirIndia many times and there are maintenance issues for sure. They just ignore the priority of safety inside the cockpits and in the main cabin. The crew themselves are prepared for more than standard training. I won't be surprised if they have handyman tools to fix problems.
Great commendable performance by the Air India flight crew! Multiple instruments failures is an indication of sub-standard aircraft maintenance and maintenance procedures; not an area to take shortcuts.
This story has been told wonderfully. You have explained all the complicated flight stuff so well! It was such a good video that I watched the entire 22 minutes, never got bored because of your awesome storytelling! Your tone matched with the story very well

Thank you. Having worked in Ministry of Civil Aviation, I appreciate your video. I really wonder how it was not reported by Pilots and also in 'Incident Report '. It won't happen again, since the TATA has now taken over Air India.
It definitely was reported by the pilots, but Air India has not released the investigation report to the public, so I had no official sources to know what the exact reasoning was. The video was made based on video interviews the pilots made to NDTV after the incident. Yes, now that Tata has taken over, I am keen to see how Air India improves. They have just made a large order of new aircraft. Fingers crossed to see the Maharaja being an actual Maharaja! :)
It was reported. I made and released the video in 4 days of the incident. If I would not have made the video, no one would have known about this incident. th-cam.com/video/5FTw9TQtw38/w-d-xo.html Great video by Wyngx especially with the narration and simulation.

I recently flew from JFK to DEL (including return) and believe me both the times the aircraft were too old to be considered safe. Most of their TVs and remotes were malfunctioning and the seats were too old. Well, I was hardly interested in TVs, remotes, and seats etc., what was bothering me were the conditions of the instruments crucial for flying because they were most likely be as old the TVs, remotes etc. If this video would have come two months ago and if I would have watched it I would have never flown with Air India. I still do not want to fly again with Air India because of their poor hospitality. I really hope that Air India consider replacing all of their too old aircraft before any major event happens.

@@brentsarazin6597No I've never been a pilot myself, just a random Aviation geek. No airliner currently can travel at 550 KIAS, 777's VMO is about 330 KIAS only. Basically the aerodynamic forces would put so much stress on the plane's body that it would break apart mid air. But this is a simulator in the video that's why it survived.
The investigation was done, partners in the investigation just decided not to report finding to the media. Air India and Boeing wouldn't want compromising information out there.

Wow those air India pilots and captain are amazing. They were looking at an utter catastrophe but kept their cool and used every resource and effort to best land the plane. They were very lucky too because if they did not land on their first attempt at the 400 ceiling of Newark, then there would be no second chance. They did really well. I hope the Indian Govt honoured them for that. Those pilots professionalism and calmness and focus saved everyone's life on the plane. The ATCs was very professional and helpful too. I can't help but compare those skilled air India pilots to the Air France pilots of 2009. The Air France flight was not in any kind of real trouble, but because they did not take corrective actions when the stall warning came on, that is what killed them. They were not on autopilot and had stall warnings for at least four minutes and were at an altitude where they could easily have recovered from. But the black box recorder showed that the pilots ignored the stall warnings and didn't even mention them. The pilots were utterly confused as to why the plane was losing altitude and behaving as it did. It took until seconds before the crash for one of the pilots to work out that the planes nose had been pointing up the whole time.

@@Arts11234 an APU is nowhere comparable to a spare tire or jack. its more like the light that comes on when you open your car door. being a frequent flier does not mean that you're as educated as a pilot or an engineer.

Really not the video to flaunt your faux patriotism lmfao. You're not an Indian!
i work with. alot of Indian guys, and in these pilots voices, i heard a type that i know all too well. Fantastic stuff.
I have watched a lot of crash videos and have seen pilots panicking and taking wrong decisions (Air France Flight 447 being the latest) but the way the pilots maintained their composure in this case is truly commendable and admirable!
Absolutely, agreed! :)
How they did it is mind boggling. How they kept their cool is just impressive. I don't understand it. I was panicking but they acted with too much calmness.
Panic in such situations leads to wrong and desperate decisions which is very catastrophic
@@samuelarthur2713of course but panic is a natural human response.. to manage it is what separates heroes from others

The way how the pilots handled just portrays how immense a training they need to go through, with the ives of so many people in their hand. Hats off to them and to the narration as well 👏
Thank you very much! :)
The pilots played GOD with people's lives. They were lucky.
They must have done those things; probably those things are confidential and not available to the public.
@@rachittripathi2033 If its not public, its not addressed, atleast to the level it must have been.

Wow! Good work on the report, and thank you for bringing the pilots heroic duties to the public. Even though they were not celebrated loudly for their heroism, they're worthy of being celebrated in this small space for their professionalism and heroism.
I literally got goosebumps the moment the scene of the plane landing and honestly it's so moving and inspiring because these pilots were placed in such heavy and highly stressful environment, and with everything that's going on, my god - these 4 pilots are highly calm, professional and focused on solutions. It's truly truly a motivating video for me to do better in my job and with calm despite the pressures. They 4 really are amazing. If they're reading this, I salute you 4.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I can't imagine how hard that would have been.

The decision taken by captain to push the aircraft down to the left immediately and still got everyone out alive is commendable
I was at the Newark airport to fly out to SFO for a work conference when all this happened. Never knew how serious it was. We did see emergency vehicles drive out onto one of the runways from the windows, but our gate agent had told us they were there for training purposes lol. Wasn't until I got to SFO that I heard the news from my then girlfriend about the situation, and didn't really learn what happened inside the cockpit until just now. Those pilots are heroes, thanks for this video!
Absolutely outstanding work on this video. Terrific editing, graphics, script, bit of dramatic music, good quality ATC audio usage, just really well done overall. Same with all your videos. Very high standard. Hope you keep doing them ! Thanks

For being a passenger on that flight it was horrifying people were so nervous and anxious and people were crying, and I get why. also I was thinking it’s September 11th and it was over New York and I was like, something like that can never happen again. I just have to thank the pilots for safely land the plane it’s was got me into aviation it should be a day to remember… great video it deserves more likes because you said EVERYTHING so accurately. And from what I remember (I was 7) someone had a anxiety attack or a heart attack and I remember a few people volunteering to help. I’m 13 now and I still remember that day like it was yesterday.

I second that.
On what basis are you saying that?

I feel like this is one of the most difficult situation because there isn't one obvious thing that makes a mayday call immediate. bad weather, low fuel, some instrument unreliable. all on there own could not be a big deal, but each and every one slowly creeping up, making a difficult situation suddenly an emergency.

Thanks for sharing! :)
Great commendable performance by the Air India flight crew! Multiple instruments failures is an indication of sub-standard aircraft maintenance and maintenance procedures; not an area to take shortcuts.

This is a story of incredible teamwork and resilience. The pilots, ATC, and crew worked together to overcome a series of challenges and land the plane safely. It's an inspiration!
That's a very interesting comparison. Thanks for your inputs and I am glad you enjoyed the video! :)
