Should I skip carbs?

  • - NO. Eat carbs and stay calm.
    - Low-carb diets followed the low-fat diets as trends keep changing in the diet world.
    - Low-carb diets promise better insulin regulation and quicker weight loss, but there are many hormones in the body which all need to work properly for sustainable weight loss and health
    - In trying to reduce or remove carbs, you end up removing critical foods from your diet like certain fruits and vegetables, grains like rice, etc.
    - This invariably lead to poor energy levels, poor digestion, poor assimilation of nutrients like B12, fibre, etc.
    - Most traditional meals are an intelligent combination of all nutrients and ensure they are accessible to the body easily.

    I once followed your content on nutrition avidly. It supported all my beliefs on traditional Indian diets. However, over the years, my health deteriorated severely. I’m a 30 yr old female, and got PCOS, menstrual issues, IBS, which doctors said was due to hormonal issues. After a lot of experimentation, medicines etc, I finally resolved all my health issues with a low carb ketogenic diet.
    As a renowned influencer, people rely on you to provide scientifically sound advice. Their health depends on it.
    Someone with scientific temper must also check who funded the scientific research being cited. As a scientist myself, not all statical results and scientific papers are unbiased. Sometimes the funding also induces biases. For example, when Harvard researchers published the first low fat study to avoid coronary heart diseases 50 years ago it was funded by sugar industry and the fact the the people in the sample were also eating high carbs was not disclosed and their effect on the disease confounded the results. The authors also did not disclose sugar industry funding.
    Reports describing this controversy in detail can be easily found online and in scientific literature.

      @t1c2w3b4t5c6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ShreeVid K my experience is totally opposite. I have to disagree with you here. There is a lot of research done in the field of neurochemistry and biochemistry proving exactly otherwise which can be easily found on Google scholar. You can search for those papers there or even read neurochemistry or biochemistry books for the actual processes.
      my anxiety and depression is now resolved after being on a low carb diet. I eat approx 20-30 gm of carbs a day, which includes about 5-8 gm of regular sugar. Any more than that and my physical and mental health deteriorates in a few hours. To break this cycle I have to go on 24 hour fasts to allow my body to heal.
      Carbs are extremely addictive, both as per research and my own experience, and probably that is the reason why it's hard for people to accept that a low carb diet is even viable. The idea is to have a certain number of blood ketones so that your body can focus on healing itself physically as well as mentally. In India, in ancient times, I think this was being achieved by people going on frequent 24 hours fasts for mainly religious reason. But nowadays, unfortunately there are so many high carb "fast-proof" food products (sabudana khichdi, sweet potato mash!!) which ironically keep the blood ketones low and kill the purpose of fasting. Fun fact is that nowadays this self healing by fasting method is known as OMAD meaning "one meal a day" in the keto community.

    • @t1c2w3b4t5c6
      @t1c2w3b4t5c6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ShreeVK yes, those points are correct. However, a well formulated ketogenic diet (well-formulated is the key word) includes enough carbs to both support serotonin production and reduce inflammation. Together with exercise and intermittent fasting, it supports normal serotonin production. Those who experience ill effects of a keto diet are usually doing "dirty" keto - for example not including enough non-starchy vegetables, fermented veggies like pickled cabbage/cauliflower, yogurt etc; contrarily, they often eat those veggies containing lectins that lead to inflammation like peanuts, brinjal, tomatoes etc. Also, consuming foods that make the stomach alkaline (eg baking powder and baking soda) also disturb digestion. Don't confuse a keto diet with being a "no carb" or starvation diet. I have been eating far more healthy food in larger quantities than when I was on a high carb diet, and it makes my mind and body healthy. I also have a ketone measurement device with which I am tracking my health and moods correlated with ketones and the science adds up. I believe in data and not opinions and the data is objectively showing good results. Of course, I am not a medical doctor, only a professional statistician, so what you said about diet and medicines (eg anti psychotics etc) obviously stands true - whoever is on that treatment needs to talk to their doctor. However, there is research literature which shows that ketogenic diets have helped such people. It is for the medical and nutrition community to keep up to date with tge research and convey accurate information so that people can make objective decisions with awareness.

    • @t1c2w3b4t5c6
      @t1c2w3b4t5c6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ShreeVK The reason why I commented on this video is because Rujuta is a well know nutritionist with a large following. If someone like her gets acquainted with this research and accordingly investigates what's right for her customers/clients it's going to help. That said, Rutuja is not a doctor either, so I assume that anyone who is taking her advice has to seek a doctor's opinion as well.

    You always hit the Bulls eye 🎯
    Easy assessiblity to instant food and fast food has made things vulnerable. In my childhood the only thing which was instant and available was bread. Though Indian snacks like samosa and other fried stuff was available. We were safe because we don't have so many choices of fast food and instant food. The only instant food available was maggi. Today there are tremendous choices for children in packaged snacks that children want to try all of them and end end up eating one pack daily. Thanks to a diet plan which was enrolled by us and we switch from these kind of stuff to fruits and nuts. But I watch each and every video of yours and everytime I feel yes, aapne mere muh ki baat chheen Li. The way your spread awareness about seasonal, local, traditional is so priceless. Keep making videos Thank you for your efforts ❤️.

    Plz enlighten more about traditional proportions in a balanced diet. Because in some traditional proportions, rice is taken more than dal and sabjis. And if someone is diagnosed with diabetes, then first they are advised to cut down on white rice and wheat rotis.

      yes white rice is of high glycemic index. so has to be avoided or reduce the quantity. we should include all types of grains and not just wheat or rice. we should have diversity in the carbs. hand pounded rice, whole wheat flour, jowar, bajra, nachni and other millets. yes we can't eat 80% rice and 20% sabji+ dal. we should eat 60% rice + 20% sabji + 20% dal

    Once your body is adapted to fat, you crave for sugar and carbs. I have been in low carb diet. I am very happy and it works for me. Yes once in 2 weeks i do eat sugar and carbs. If you are well adapted to fat. No other diet will come in your mind. What's wrong with so called balanced diet. That it can't control you craving for sugar. Your insulin will spike and drops very quickly. You will be hungry again. with low carb diet or carnivore deit. You don't have craving at all. You don't even feel hungry. Even a full tub of ice cream in front of you can't make you eat it. But this all works only if your body is fat adapted. For some it will take a week for some it will take a month.but once your body is fat adapted you will not go for any other deit. Also there is no such thing as essential carb because to survive out body doesn't require carb. It just need energy, which we can get from protein or fat. If you think balance deit works for you then we'll and good. Sugar and carb industries are much much bigger than low carb one. If you do low carb or carnivore diet you have better gut. Hence your won't have any issue with poop or constipation. You must remember wheat and rice are only came to our deit 10,000 years ago. Before that human only lived eating low carb. That is our real human deit.
