Bless you omggg, I had the exact same fan break internally and was GRINDING against the housing plate and causing my laptop to overheat. I was afraid I was gonna have to remove the entire heat sink. Now my laptop is cool, calm, and collected! The local repair store wanted to charge me $170 and keep it for 2 weeks for parts and repair and I fixed it in under 20 mins and spent $15 on eBay. I’m so glad I found your channel!! 😭

This is a very helpful video for those who experience cranking noise from the fan, basically a fan that still works but it making noise and seems to be stuck so it running slower and with much noise. That's basically what happen to my right fan, at first it started to make noise than over time it starts to make louder noise and the fan is running slower, not long after the fan is more and more stuck. I thought I need to buy a new fan but it just need some lube. I lube it with WD 40, just a little bit in the hole will do. And after I cut the edge off with the blade I didn't use tape or anything since there is one screw that holds the fan cover on. Definitely save me like $20-30 from buy a new fan and thermal paste, I always thought I need to remove the whole heat sink just to remove the fan. Thank you for making such useful video.

@@TheBest-zl3rm Glad it helped. I don't recommend WD-40 unless you bought the kind specifically made for lubricating parts. WD-40 is not a lubrication and just thins the oil that's in there. It can actually flush it out and basically cause the parts to run with no lubrication at all.

Repairing laptops has been a hobby for me over the years, never my business, did it for a few friends, hear and there for some chump change/a beer.
When I opened the laptop i was sure someone will find a way to replace that fan without disassembly of the cooling heatsinks.
Let me say this, it is visible that you are a professional at your work, you explained everything and made it all enjoyable , kinda made me remember how fun it was at the begining to repair the dell latitudes and the ibm/lenovos of the time.

Great video, helped me fix my loud fan for $0. I don't think you got back to discussing cutting off the long plastic bit that goes under the heatsink but after looking at mine (opposite side) and you the one in your video it looks like a channel that air would flow through in normal operation. Cutting it looks like it could leave the fan blowing some of the hot air into the body of the laptop, but I'm far from an expert.

I have a Asus Tuf Gaming F17 FX766LI the GPU fan started making a sound when I cleaned it yesterday. I think Asus does it on purpose. It gets some misalignment when you clean it. Happend with my CPU fan after cleaning started making a huge sound and then stopped working But I got it replaced free on warranty. I have added an SSD upgraded ram that voids my warranty even if I clean it at home it voids the warranty. So I removed the upgrades and when the Service Technician gave me back the laptop he was acting weird he told me to check it. I found it fine then I heard something move inside like something was lose. I tried to shake it nothing happend. I asked is something screw left inside. He did not reply just acting weird.
I was happy to get my laptop back ingored it
Went hope had trouble opening one of the screws but managed to open it put all the upgrades and screwed it back.
3 months later when I tried to open thata screw gave me problem I held it up with tweezers and managed to open it. I installed another SSD I could not get it to close I opened it and saw that the screw was under the Hinge and the metal threading that the screw fits into is held in place by a star shaped plastic housing that is protruding out of the back panel. This had been broken and now it was compleletly broke and piece of the plasti c were lose I collect it kept it.
Now I realized why the Service Technician was acting weird. He had damaged it put the asshole kept silent. I realized that the heat from teh CPU fan had made the plastic brittle. (Asus laptops are cheap shit) So he need take the blame and he could have got me a back panel replacement.
Now the problem is there is no way I can claim something like that happened without admitted that I tried to open the laptop if tell them I have opened the laptop my warranty is void.
So Now I am in a fix I really don't know what to do So I am searching how to fix this.
The strange part is if I flick the laptop with my finger in the fan area the noise stops. I opened it once and just checked the alignment just shook the fan beat it a little and there was no noise for 5 hourse. Otherwise ever since noise started if I flick it or tap it the noise would start again in 5 minutes or less.
Now it has again started making sound out of the blue. I again tapped it and its quiet. There seems to be no change in the fans speed when this happpens.
So I am not sure what to do I think I can try fixing.
I still have wrranty till the end of this year ends on Jan 1 2024.
But I cannot give it for service as the screw is not hodling it I have not screwed it back Kept it safely.
Will this work. Also is there any solution for the screw.
I am thining of gluing it to the hinge but not sure which glue would hold the screw if tigtened to tight.
If I could find a good metal to metal glue then I could just glue it. They can't see the plastic broken. But I will still throw in the piecs I picked up.
So when the Service Technician is opening it if he breaks the screw head glue then I he might think he broke the plastic housinc since he already broke it once before.
If its the same Service Technician . Then I will get my replacment.
Damn I am in a fix or else I can just a replacement fan but I can't find asus original. I guess using a chinese made knockoff is better than the the original replacment fan as evertime I clean it, it will fail. Atleast the chinese made knockof might last longer.

    • @ItsBinhRepaired
      @ItsBinhRepaired  ปีที่แล้ว

This is likely the issue th-cam.com/video/3zs_SJ3BXgA/w-d-xo.html If you cleaned the fan with canned air, that's the reason it broke. Canned air if you hold it too long will put condensation in the grease and mess it up. If you shook the can, it'll also shoot liquid into the fan.
People keep messing up their computers with those canned air things.

that damn plastic hook on the fan is ridiculous. my old asus laptop merely has three screws in the fan and you can take it right out and have immediate access to the heatsink fins. the same cannot be said for my new laptop. i can't even unhook it like this because the hook is now on top of the motherboard, directly under the heatsink next to the fins.
while this isn't as severe as what apple is doing, it sure is heading that way. making the life of consumers harder by practically denying access to self-repairs, or making them unnecessarily difficult and time consuming, is a violently common progress amongst all tech and it's both infuriating and exhausting to deal with. definitely my last time getting a laptop from asus, or any brand in general
