Thanks to you my laptop fan has finally stopped grinding. I can't order it locally because the sellers charged way too much and aliexpress is banned in my country. Thankfully your method works (although shaving the plastic is a bit scary) and I used sewing machine oil instead of motor oil.

I tried this on my HP laptop in the beginning of 2019 using 20W-50 synthetic motor oil. The laptop fan has been working fine for the last 4 years with nearly daily use. I also added the same oil on a project with a cheap fan that's running 24/7 year round since November 2020, the fan still spins flawlessly. I realized I get good results with heavy full-synthetic engine oils with 20W-50 spec.

So I have popped out the backplates of my old fans since they were unfixable and they were barely compatible with my new shipped fans (the parts you cut off with blade does not fully fit) so I just taped the backplates with electrical tape (only taped 2 major pieces unlike your 5-6 way). The backplates were kind of bent as cutting the connecting bits off didn't occur to me, so I have bent them back into their own shape. I have checked them multiple times to see if there were any noticable gaps and put it back together. The fans work fine but I wonder if my method was safe in the long run. What do you think?

These types of blowers, which can only be opened if you cut the plastic that holds the piece with the blade, are designed so there is no way to maintain them. It's a real pain. My notebook's blower is the same type and to be able to disassemble it whenever I want without using tape to close it, I took 4 microscrews and melted the plastic to create the threads for the screws. It's like something from the factory now. I just use white glue between the parts to prevent air leakage.
