  • @briansydnes1711

    The tube you pointed out is the EVAP Purge valve vacuum source. If it cracks it will cause a P0171, lean code for umetered air. Has nothing to do with VVT Solenoid malfunction or codes. To remove just take a pliers and grip the top of the solenoid case twist and pul, no need to struggle with various picks and screwdrivers. Use compressed air to blow away dirt and debris around the solenoids. Only use AC Delco, many have reported frequently failures with aftermarket solenoids.

      @timothyflynn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Brian I changed the actuators and the P011 code came back so I was thinking of replacing this tube but now I don't need to. I've changed the oil and still getting this code after a few hours of driving and also when braking at a stop the vehicle surges and rough idles. I'm flushing the tranny fluid next so hopefully that will take care of it.

      @@WilliamusTrades I changed out the position sensors with no change. Oddly I changed the transmission fluid and that helped a lot. Ultimately for me I think it is probably the timing chain(s) but not sure if I want to fix it. It happens periodically but then resets itself. Seems to be with more stop and go driving or aggressive acceleration. The timing chain replacement looks $$$$.

    I towed my 2012 chevy equinox to the dealership because it would not start. I was getting code P0013 and U0100 (Lost communication with ECM/PCM A). The dealership says thay want to update/reset the ECM for $40 and replace the Cam Shaft actuator solenoids $750... I don't understand why they would charge so much. I'm going to replace them myself for $100 on parts. Do you have any idea why they would charge $750 not including the diagnostic?

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, that means or timing chain needs to be replaced technically but your cylinder head is really the problem. It loses oil pressure, open the cylinder head, which will not actuator cam gears properly…. Other people may tell you differently because they’re trying to sell you something and it’s easier to sell something that’s cheaper than sell something that’s more expensive….. but I’m telling you this because I don’t have any skin in the game. I don’t have anything to gain you need a new cylinder head not a used one or one that is line board properly…

    So what did the engine run like when the bad ones were in ?

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well that’s a complicated question to answer because sometimes at stoplights it would die , and even though it needed new solenoids that wasn’t the complete problem. Sometimes it would run just fine.
      The problem often with these is the PCV valve gets plugged and that hurts the oil pressure on the inside of the engine so removing the intake and cleaning the PCV valve is often necessary in addition to replacing the solenoids.
      These engines are not very good engines they often have ring problems and a host of mini more.

    Hey clay.. First off. .Thank you for making it easy to understand (great vid) I do have one question . .How was the engine running before you replaced the selenoids?

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well since I made this video I learned a considerable amount more about these engines you can certainly try to change the solenoids it’s easy and sometimes effective because oil will basically buildup on the inside of the solenoid causing them not to work
      Ultimately though these are kind of junkie engines this one would not idle very well. It was fine when it was above an idol but ultimately it boils down to oil pressure not being consistent in the engine and running the cam phasers incorrectly. And that’s caused because the cam journal bearings were down overtime allowing for inconsistent oil pressure it’s not the oil pump it’s the bearings wearing down inside the engine if that makes sense
      Unfortunately these engines are complete doom and gloom.

      Can you grab it with pliers or anything since there’s no pressure on it any longer you may be able to take a little screwdriver and turn it. I’m assuming you don’t have a die grinder because you could put a notch in the top of it allowing you to unscrew it.
      You could try to drill a tiny hole in it with a 1/16 drillbit then insert what’s called an easy out which almost looks like a drill bit. Once you got the easy out inside there you turn it counterclockwise the easyout it will go further inside the hole then it will grab and start turning the stud out .
      I’m sure you could insert your new Solenoid inside there and drive it to a repair shop and they should be able to get it out in a couple of minutes.
      Hope some of that information is helpful for you and I’m sorry that happened to you
