    Those scanners that read the codes saved me thousands of dollars, a friend had one and it found the code and he helped me replace it and only cost about $150 in parts and about 3 hours of time. A garage would have charged a fortune. I fixed 3 items in the car I had and had the vehicle the longest ever I've owned one. They are an amazing item. Great job finding and fixing the issue. Well done.

      I have this OBDII for a couple of years and came in handy quite a few times between my vehicles and my sons. I agree it's well worth the investment. Should have mentioned good Multimeter as well.

    • @JohnCRV

      If you mean the clips that lock the plugs into the solenoids, their purpose is to prevent the the plugs from vibrating off. I'm sure the it's ok to temporarily operate the vehicle without them but I would look for the new ones at an auto parts store.

    I recently had a new camshaft changed placed due to the code, I drove it for a while the check engine light came back on. I returned to the mechanic and he cleaned and asked me if I had a recent oil change which I did . Could this also result in a timing issue?

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I mentioned in the video, Its possible , the last resort is a timing issue. I would wait till the engine light comes back on. It could be there was residue from the oil that clogged it again. One thing about these 4 c engines, they need oil change when its due. So hopefully you wont need to go further.

    I have a question, I initially took my car
    In that read brake vacuum booster sensor. Because I could not push the brake down to stop the vehicle, I was practically standing on it to stop. And it happened all of a sudden. Now after order a sensor for what I thought was the problem,
    Which I
    Could only do at the dealership. TheYve had my
    Vehicle since sept the 14. Which they just informed me it
    Was the time
    Chain $2000. Now it’s the cam shaft which they said could
    Not be coded. But here’s a video for it and it’s the same one that’s on the invoice paper.

    • @JohnCRV

      That is weird! All these issues at once would make me wonder as well. Not sure what to tell you but sounds like a misdiagnose happened there, which happens but that's an expensive misdiagnose in which they should give some kind of discount. But I doubt that will happen from a dealer.

    What settings do I set my multimeter on,?

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry I missed your question.
      The setting depends on the type multimeter you have but it should be on Ohms. This setting is used to measure the resistance, which is measured in ohms. The function on its own is called an ohmmeter. A great way to check the accuracy of your multi meter is to get a resistor that you know the resistance of, and use the ohms setting to test the resistance. If it reads correctly, you can be sure that your DMM is accurate. The ohm setting also a quick and easy way to test the condition of fuses - if the meter reads OL, the you can be sure the fuse has blown. SAFETY NOTE: only test fuses with the ohms setting when they are OUT of the circuit.

    So what about the camshaft position SENSOR? 🤔

      here’s a short video on it. there’s plenty of other videos as well. good luck.

      @@JohnCRV that’s the thing. Most of the videos on here are either the solenoids or the CRANKshaft position sensor, even though the title says “camshaft position sensor”. 😕 I’ll check it out. Thank you.

      @@JohnCRV yep, that’s the exhaust side. That’s the other 1/3 of the videos. I need the intake side and so far there’s only one video that even talks about it but the whole video is the guy removing this metal shroud to get to it and the video ends with “and that makes it so much easier!” …without showing where it actually is. 😕 Thanks anyways John.

    I replaced both and now I got p0011 on my 2015 chevy equinox LS.. Anyone know why?

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  ปีที่แล้ว

      The first thing you should do when you have this code is check your Equinox’s oil. If the oil level is too low, the camshaft actuators won’t work properly.

    • @jorgecarrejo
      @jorgecarrejo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnCRV unfortunately the oil is perfect.. What else could be the problem.. And before I replaced these 2, I had p0013 and p0014.. Now it's only p0011.

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jorgecarrejo You have done the following:
      If it has been a long time since you’ve changed your vehicle’s oil, or you find that there may be a reason to believe that the oil thickness is wrong, change the oil and see if that clears P0011 in your Chevy Equinox.
      You have changed intake actuator for a 10 or 11 code and or the exhaust actuator for a 13 or 14 code.
      Changing the intake actuator should have fixed code 11 as well, the only think I can tell you is to check the electric connection to it to make sure it's making good contact.
      If all the above doesn’t remove codes, then timing chain/belt jumped.
      You’ll have to get some mechanic advice with that. Good luck!
