As a veteran editor (35 years - CMX, Avid, Avid DS, Premiere/AE) I know what I want from an editor. A clean interface thats capable and has the ability to do all kinds of motion graphics. Out of curiosity I tried DaVinci and found it wanting. I dont need 2 editors (Cuts and Edit), I DO need the kind of abilities that Premiere and After Effects bring to the table. I hate Adobe for going rental with its software. I wanted to like DaVinci...but I dont. Maybe editors that are primarily cuts only guys with limited graphic needs it maybe i fine. But not for me. I went back to PR/AE.
hi Tom! Thanks for the feedback ! Could you give me an example about something you tried to do in DV and couldn't but in Premiere / AE was easy ? I'm scripting a video about how to do some things from one in the other, and would be super helpful !
It might be an honest comment, but the workflow of comments on TH-cam isn't the easiest... I have a dashboard for example to see new comments, but if you reply my comment it doesn't appear there 😬 Makes it really difficult to follow a conversation..
My biggest hang up keeping me from switching is I use so many presets in Premier Pro that give my video the style I like. I've wanted to switch mainly for quicker render speeds. But this has been what holds me back.
@@FlyEnri yes, titles, fake handheld camera zooms, transitions to mimic a film roll, zooms with motion blur. Now that I'm thinking about it, it's mainly the "transform" tool that a lot of my presets use. I also just started realizing the power of "nesting" images and videos within my main sequence and so I use that A LOT. I also use masks frequently.
All of these are possible within DaVinci also, but you'd have to find or create the similar things! I've been using some assets that were free and others paid, and it's enough. Nesting are Compound Clips in DaVinci and masking is much better on DaVinci !
I have both. DR Studio is great but I hate the way the playhead clips to the end of clip. Not sure if that can be tweaked. Furthermore I feel that PP is working better on my laptop that has plenty of power to run both. (i9, 64 gigs of ram etc). DR crashes more often than PP. Meaning PP pretty much never crashes. I also dislike the cramped color page which you can't adjust. Also PP is better with text in my opinion. That being said DR is great, in many ways much snappier, and indeed no need to switch between apps, fantastic effects and the price is a big plus. I'm still not totally into it but it might come.
Hi ! So the playhead clipping to the end can be turned off by clicking the Magnet button. DaVinci crashing more than PP is quite strange, maybe some plugins or extra stuff you've been using ? The Color Page can be a little full if your screen is small. The text I agree, i've been making tests and the transcription and text editing is still better in my opinion.
No no no you can’t be comparing da Vinci resolve to after effects. That’s apples and oranges. Resolve does everything premiere pro does only better. But yes, graphic creation is very convoluted in resolve… But why can’t you use resolve and after effects? I use after effects, Photoshop, illustrator, and resolve. Resolve does things that premiere pro can’t even dream of. And eat your heart out trying to rotoscope in after effect when magic mask is like 10 times. Better easier and faster. Rest my case.
Hi ! They are super simple Phillips Hue like wireless bulbs, that i can control with Google Home! Is a great hack to give some extra touch to the background, thanks for the feedback !
Ive used Sony Vegas for 4 years and Premiere Pro for 2, Im currently unable to use my editing machine everyday so im now interested in DR in the meantime 🤔
Bro i own a production company and am constantly dealing with memory issues in premiere yet i have a 4090 gpu, 64 gb of ddr4, and i9 12900k. I have atleast 3 crashes a project and it’s a nightmare. I finally am trying to switch after 10 years in premiere
Mate, same absolute thing with me here ! I got a 3060 Ti after a long time suffering with a worse card, and yet, the problems were not over ! With DaVinci almost zero problems !
Great overview! I switched to DR last year bc of the same issues w Premiere. I also caught your BenQ video, which is what brought me here. I have the same monitor. Somewhat technical Q: Just wondering if you use the workspace monitor calibration feature inside of DR or if you just calibrate outside of DR (w xrite, calibrite, etc.), or both. I shoot video mostly just for personal w the occassional YT upload for my business (webinars, etc.), so I'm not a colorist or film pro.
@@FlyEnri Thanks for the response. I'm not sure why some folks are saying DR ignores the icc profiles saved on operating systems. Your colors look great, so I'll definitely take your word for it!
the exact OPPOSITE happens for me, did 1 fusion clip with and the whoile programmed collapsed had to export it and finish it on premiere, I have to say that premiere right now has better features for faster editing and you don't have to click every single project to have cache rendered also Davinci ends up eating a lot of ram. Premiere used to crash a lot but now I'm doing dynamic links on many clips, so much effects that davinci couldn't handle a single one. I won't switch since I can do anything on premiere pro
The thing is Premiere being very temperamental, for you on your setup it's working so you're right, just keep it if it's working better than DaVinci. But majority of people will surely experience like me, with DaVinci being more stable and reliable. So weird yours was crashing so much... Anyways, if one of them works we're good! :D It's soooo frustrating to have the project and not being able to export or continue editing because of one clip.
It really depends, but the same video for youtube for example in my machine, will render twice as fast (or more) as the length on DaVinci, for example (10min for a 20min video timeline). While on Premiere it varies insanely, and usually took up to the same amount of time as the timeline. But it really depends on the machine and the type of video !
Thanks for your information, just I have 2 questions. If you can answer them, thank you. 1. Why do I hear that DaVinci is comparable to some Adobe software, not just one? For example, is it really comparable to Adobe Audition? Because Premiere Pro has a lot of audio settings, especially after the AI audio update, which improved its audio capabilities. However, Audition is still considered better and offers more features. So, is DaVinci for audio just as good as Premiere Pro, or does it truly offer advanced audio features like Adobe Audition? 2. As a beginner, I've heard that DaVinci's free version is great. But how great is it compared to Premiere Pro? Because I want to know what I can achieve with the free version before investing in it. But one thing for text behind objects u dont need ae, u can do it in pr.
Hi ! I didn't run a check on what exact features I can get on Audition vs Fairlight, but for the things I mainly use, I find them all on DaVinci but not on Premiere. If I'm editing with Premiere I need to go to Audition. Regarding 2, I'd say that the free version of DaVinci is better than paid Premiere, but it depends if the limitation of not handling 10bit footage and not exporting using the graphics card is a problem for you. If it is then I recommend the paid version of DaVinci over Premiere.
@@FlyEnri Thanks for your reply, I actually found a lot of Audio editing in Pr especially the new Ai for Enhance with more editing, but also DaVinci has impressed me a lot especially as an entry level so I might go for it because I feel it is worth it, thank you again. one more question, Have you tried Fusion? Fusion Studio in paid version can i have a simple modeling editing?
Thanks !! I'm using a Rode Videomic Pro just outside the frame, pointing at me, very close up. Love the sound of it also ! It's a massive upgrade from the usual lav mics !

If you have enough light on you, and the right exposure on camera, you should get a fairly good image already! Then it's about the color grading, mine is very subtle, since everything is fixed in the studio, white balance, power of light, etc
Me too, I still have the Adobe subscription mainly because of Lightroom, Photoshop and Illustrator, but I still use Audition because of the remix tool !

So hard not to be sarcastic about all this. Good video as usual. Hope to see you at NAB this year.
I can't help but notice that you don't have anything positive to say about Premiere Pro, or what it does better. Is this due to your personal preferences for Davinci Resolve? Is your review biased? What about for example the AI features recently incorporated into Premiere Pro, has Davinci incorporated AI into their platform? Thank you for the video.
Currently I find the text editing in Premiere to work a little bit better than DaVinci and I really like After Effects, which is not Premiere itself, but I love the integration between Fusion and DaVinci much more than After + Premiere.
