In DR external audio from a DJI Mic or Rode Wireless mic can sync automatically to the audio recorded in the video track, even Lumafusion can do this. 2: DR doesn’t need to know your shoe size and food preferences, Capcut needs to know all about you and your computer network and sends the data to China. I’ve never tried DaVinci. But I’ve been trying to learn Adobe Premiere Pro for years. Never really felt like I’ve become remotely good at it with all the panels and stuff that you have to remember. Then I tried CapCut for the first time and finally started to actually enjoy editing. It just lets me create!
I tried both this week. I found CapCut much better. It just works. Davinci had issues with different formats, and was choppy. Very frustrating, so got rid of it. My only gripe so far, is a crappy looking audio waveform. I rely on the waveform a lot for editing. Why can't they use a normal waveform, like all other programs? I HIGHLY recommend backing up the project to another drive, by simply locating the project folder and copying it. Also, no need to Save. It saves itself. :)
Yeah lack of ripple trim is kinda frustrating! Hope it will appear in the future! For now the way I work around it is to do captions and stickers and just deal with the main track first.
Thanks for the video. I already started using CapCut on my phone. Your video and my experience with the phone version has convinced me to use CapCut for my editing. I value my time and need to edit my videos quickly. CapCut seems like it will help me reach that goal. Thanks!
I've been using capcut as a beginner and think its great for starting video and edditing, I have since downloaded Davinci but find it very overwhelming with the amount of stuff there available to do. ill pick it up soon and maybe fully switch over

Great info! Thanks! I have been really annoyed by the inability to edit multi-track projects in CapCut so I will give DaVinci a try. Totally agree that the vertical space for audio editing is totally atrocious and pulling the audio out further exacerbates the problems with multi-track editing. Cheers
Trimming in Davinci isn't so obvious for me after Premiere. For example, i have very long foley sound beneath video, but video clip is short. If i try to trim all of my tracks at once, Premiere pro will delete gap between cursor and next nearest cut. This gap will be the same for all tracks - the smallest GAP of all of them. Davinci, instead, delete GAP for video and for sound separately to their nearest cut. That's annoying, especially for long wedding toasts filmed with 3 cameras and recorded for 2 or 3 sources of audio. And maybe it's the only reason to stick with premiere 😞
The stabilize function has recently become Pro only in CapCut, which has led to me looking for alternatives like DaVinci. For anyone seeking to edit action footage this function is vital.
Is it ever good to start in cap cut and move to divinici? Cap cut is great for short IG videos but i want to make TH-cam videos too.. the multi-track splitting would be a major life saver
I bought the Davinci Pro version ,2 years ago because it was on offer with the free mini console. I still have to master it (I'm almost 56 years old and for me it's just a hobby), I have little time and desire to do this, the updates are free and I have only paid for the software once, and in any case if I no longer had the free updates I would be equally happy because this software, given its current potential, will never become obsolete. And then... it has an Italian name p.s. will you do Davinci tutorials with 360 videos? Have a nice day
i've been editing with capcut for a few years, at firs on mobile then on desktop, but now I need to learn davinci or premiere so that I can work on a professional standard, it's very intimidating.
Honestly there’s no need. I’ve been working with premiere pro & DaVinci for nearly 15 years and now use CapCut for all of my projects due to better simplicity and templates.
summary - horses for courses. I've used PP CS6, Avid and now DR (DR for the last 4 years) and I agree with everything you've said about it. more for the novice breaking out into the bigger world of editing and DEFINITELY NOT for your average "8-second-attention-span" millennial, who'll just abandon it out of frustration. ask me how I know. Capcut seems like it's designed for a broader audience of beginner editors who don't have either a lot of time or enthusiasm for editing. now I'm looking to upgrade the DR to Studio version because I'm entering the world of drone photography/footage, using a whole different system of colouring (D-Log) and I have a brand new RTX4070 that needs some abuse that DV free version doesn't offer.
I tried Capcut for a while, but really hated how inaccurate the previews are in the timeline. I'm not sure if it's because my PC is compatively old or what but that was a dealbreaker for me. DR is now my new friend.
Thank you so much for this, it really helped me make up my mind. I have to go with Davinci, as I want to make videos longer than 15 minutes. I also want to be able to edit audio more easily. With your review, it's saved me many hours of using Capcut only to find I couldn't export the size of video I want! Very clear explanation and unbiased review. Thanks again.
Hey Ben, awesome editing software vid. Total beginner here. Since viewing this, I have convinced myself that I can do this. CapCut and/or DaVinci. At some point there will be a need to use multi track audio. Honestly wanted to say thanks because I really learned something from your video. You sir may have helped to create a monster! G
thanks so much for this video, i got here after trying to use DaVinci to simply remove audio & trim video, which i've never even tried before, and it took forever to figure out what i was doing. even most of the youtube tutorials on how to do it wouldn't work because they assumed i knew even a little about using it lol, so i had to watch full on tutorials [like yours!] to figure out how to make a basic trim. I only need the editor for basic video edits for a Whirlyball sports league and i definitely don't intend to use any crazy features like DaVinci has, so i think i'll switch to capcut
Thank you for the helpful video. Is there a way to remove the capcut logo on videos? I tried to find a stii g but it seems that the only option is to crop to get rid of it
There a feature in capcut pro that makes it excellent for me: AI image expand + freeze frame + 3D Motion. Really saves you when theres no video or even a good photo for a sequence....makes it worth paying. IMO
What about LUT I haven't seen you explain it I have a 4k drone and it uses D-Log M I see some have a colour correction for that please can you tell me if it does it
Ben: I tried davinci a few versions ago and while I did make a basic video out of it, I found it so intimidating, I uninstalled it. i have been a Pinnacle studio user for probably 20 years and it has its issues and crashes frequently. They put out version 26 last year and they have stopped making it. I tried Capcut 2 days ago thanks to you and it is a nice program. I made a video from it and uploaded it, but found I cannot monetize it because of the music I used. So that is a bummer they don't have free music clips. I will go and watch your Davinci videos and maybe I'll give it a try again. Either way, thanks for doing this. you got my thumbs up.
Hi Danny, I do think CapCut is a great choice for a beginner friendly editor. The music should be royalty free however- are you sure your video wasn’t monetised because of the music track? Or was it another reason?
@@BenClaremont I have been on TH-cam for years. I assure you it named off 2 songs as the reason it could not be monetized nor shown in some countries, though it did not specify. I deleted the video so I no longer have access to what 2 songs it was.
Maybe this would work for some use cases, but you're creating generation loss by compressing the video in the export with capcut and then compressing it again in the export with davinci. Keep in mind too that capcut doesn't support 10-bit color as far as I know and so it would severely limit your color options for davinci after exporting from capcut
Love CapCut but wish same account could open in both mobile and laptop version…meaning I could start a project on my phone and then finish on the laptop. Canva allows this feature and I use it a lot.
Hey it does actually have that feature - it’s called spaces. However as videos are much larger file sizes than images, it’s slow and clunky and not really worth it.
Hello! Does anyone know of a video editing software that allows me to incorporate online media? For example, using a sound from a TH-cam video by extracting the audio? DaVinci Resolve doesn't seem to have what I'm looking for.
@BenClaremont You actually can do the placing the text using the viewer in davinci too. you just click on transform in the drop down menu in the bottom left corner of the viewer.
Hi Ben, Very nice review. Thank you. I'm in Thailand and CapCut doesnt seem to be limited for Exporting. I have exported videos over 1 1/2 hrs. Maybe its limited in the US?
Hi and thanks for that nice video. About your interactive View at 3:16. Press the transform button - the rectangel you can see under the left edge of the preview window and try to drag and move in the window ... . That works in Davinci as well :-)
Having been a CapCut user for 17 hours, I will agree with your closing statement in that CapCut may not be the end all of editing programs, it is a very nice tool to have in the tool box. Personally, I think that FCPX has gotten a bit long in the tooth and while it's still my preferred program for longer, multi layered projects, they have failed to keep up with current technology video editing trends. However, I sure wish CapCut will add the Marking feature...the M on FCPX, as it could solve a few issues. And Ben...promise that you'll never stop making reviews and tutorials!
As a work-around for the marking feature (coz there isn't one in CapCut), I use the in (i) and out (o) points as if they were markers. Works okay as temporary markers anyway, eg for coming back to the project and seeing where you left off.
@@drinkinslim I tried that, but here's the problem. When trying to find something like an audible sync point, CapCut doesn't have the ability to skim the audio track with the keyboard arrows so that you can find an exact point...so using the I/O method is hit and miss. Here's three more issues I've found: 1) While it has various masks options, there's no option to draw a mask. So, if you need to cut out a specific section, you're out of luck. 2) If you're using Captions for a production that has multiple camera angles and there's not a single on screen location that works for the caption placement, the only way to do this is by highlighting the desired captions you want to move and using the Uniform Scale to pinpoint locations. The "apply to all" selection is a bit confusing. It would be nice if you could drag and drop and have it only affect the captions you highlighted. 3) When working with multiple layers where one or more layers has the talent's background cutout, there's numbered buttons to select to make it work properly. I've watched a bunch of tutorials and I haven't seen anyone address this yet. Ben?
One more item: If you have b-roll or an image or two on a timeline and want to add a transition, it affects the entire video, not just the b-roll. As an example, if you add an earthquake style transition, and your intention is to have some shake between two images placed above the main timeline, it affects everything below it...not just the b-roll or images.
Hello ... what about the privacy issues with CapCut ? Did you read their terms for service. It looks like they are collecting everything you do! Am I missing something or Am I overreacting? I want to use it but WOW on this point. Welcome comments to change my thinking. Thanks all
I’m currently very on the fence still, I’ve been dabbling with Davinci for the past week or so with ProRes on iPhone 16 pro max. Still unsure if the learning curve along with the ProRes file sizes is for me. Going to finish the video I’m working on in Davinci along with grabbing a few free plugins and the next video I’ll edit in h265 and CapCut. Do you have a recommendation for someone getting into video for short form content with an iPhone specifically? I do have a mirrorless camera & im currently looking to dip my toes with my the new iPhone 16 pro max ( which has been buggy and full of issues ) until I further research and gather the gear i need to tailor my eos rp from photography to videography, by then I assume I’ll be more inclined to fully commit to Davinci and a larger codec
you also missed some big sells of DVR - the huge amount of add ons available in the market for just about text, transition and format. PLus the awesome speed editors, and the Ipad version .. its almost 98% the same as the desktop version - you just need to know how to open the extra tabs - most users won't need studio version of DVR and the speed editors include free licences too and yes it does text auto snap !
@@TeamAstroworkz those are all good things! Although CapCut has them too, except it’s all built in, no need to source third party assets etc. So it doesn’t change the overall equation much, in my opinion.
In the Ts & Cs CapCut says it basically has the rights to use your content and your account identity in any way it likes, including the use by all affiliated third parties and can profit from it without paying you anything. I wouldn't go near any app with those sort of terms.
Hi there, thanks for the very informative video. I have a question please. Im trying to learn video editing cinematic videos using a gopro12 and im olanning tod do sime color grading. Will davinci be a better choice? I don't have any experience with video editing whatsoever
Color grading is very hard to learn and understand well. So you'd want to use the tool the pros use, which is DaVinci Resolve. There are also many great tutorials on TH-cam and some really bad ones. But that goes for any software.
I'm using CapCut and I want to start working in the video editing industry, any advice on how to start learning? Would CapCut be okay to use for professional editing jobs?
Ben, is it possible to mix 360 clips and normal clips into a single video to be uploaded to TH-cam? For example ... I'd do an intro, then go on a 360 tour of location A. Then I stop and talk about location B (2D video), before I go on a 360 tour of location B. .. and so on until the end into a regular video. Is there a way to do that?
Great video! Though I must point out, Capcut doesn't have a 15 minute limit. I have been exporting videos over 30 minutes long for years. Haven't touched the payed version a single time. Either way though, great video, and points out highs and lows of both.
@@BenClaremont ah, I see. Well it seems for Australia there are no restrictions when it comes to time limit, so anyone may do with that what they will.

However phone home features are a no bueno for me. I do all of my editing offline so if it needs to phone home for anything then it's not going to work for me.

Yeah lack of ripple trim is kinda frustrating! Hope it will appear in the future! For now the way I work around it is to do captions and stickers and just deal with the main track first.
7:50 This can be changed in the menu the track if I'm not mistaken.
I've been looking for this video for several days. Now I've found it. Thank you!!!!
Thanks for the video. I already started using CapCut on my phone. Your video and my experience with the phone version has convinced me to use CapCut for my editing. I value my time and need to edit my videos quickly. CapCut seems like it will help me reach that goal. Thanks!
My pleasure!
Thanks Ben for sharing your thoughts about these programms.
I've been using capcut as a beginner and think its great for starting video and edditing, I have since downloaded Davinci but find it very overwhelming with the amount of stuff there available to do. ill pick it up soon and maybe fully switch over
I was doubting which I should use, until you mentioned that CapCut is free for shorter videos (under 15 minutes). Davinci Resolve it is!
3:48 just switched from caput to resolve and this is the number one feature that is driving me INSANE!! This feature needs to exist in resolve.
Been using capcut for a while and transitioning into DaVinci.....just to learn it .. even tho everything i do is mainly short form content etc
Davinci has "interactive viewer" as well.
Indeed I did discover this shortly after posting the video 😅
Hey Ben thank you so much!! Amazing video! Question: has CAPCUT gotten better lately? Did it maybe fix some of the issue?
Thanks - yes CapCut is already much improved in many ways 😀
Great info!
How you compare Capcut with a professional software like DaVinci???
Watch the video and you’ll see how
Lol. It is like saying I have a sword, why do I need a needle.
And then... it has an Italian name
p.s.
will you do Davinci tutorials with 360 videos?
Have a nice day
03:40 you can also do that in da vinci you just have to tick the transform tool
What if ur a beginner but ur videos are longer than 30 mins- so any other options??
i've been editing with capcut for a few years, at firs on mobile then on desktop, but now I need to learn davinci or premiere so that I can work on a professional standard, it's very intimidating.
10/10 video explanation! THANK YOU!!!
Using CapCut because of speed to editing but using Resolve when I get into multi-cam editing
ive loved D R for the past two years or so, was a chore learning for vr180 videos but have templates set up for all the text, pretty easy.
I tried to find a stii g but it seems that the only option is to crop to get rid of it
How about other popular apps?
There a feature in capcut pro that makes it excellent for me: AI image expand + freeze frame + 3D Motion. Really saves you when theres no video or even a good photo for a sequence....makes it worth paying. IMO
I have capcut pro, what are these features
Which one do you prefer for slideshows?
CapCut
Canva
@@BenClaremont Thanks :)
What about LUT I haven't seen you explain it I have a 4k drone and it uses D-Log M I see some have a colour correction for that please can you tell me if it does it
Yes CapCut uses LUTs
Thanks for the video i needed this!
Edit in CapCut, get is all snazzy and then bring it in to Da Vinci Resolve for color grading? Does anyone do this?
Show me one that does genuine text scrolling.
What is genuine text scrolling?
Hi Ben, Very nice review. Thank you. I'm in Thailand and CapCut doesnt seem to be limited for Exporting. I have exported videos over 1 1/2 hrs. Maybe its limited in the US?
Interesting- yes perhaps the limitations are region based 🤔
Thank you so much for this video - I learned a lot.
I promise 😀
What about other popular editing apps as well?
Super helpful, great vid - thank you!
thank you for making this video
No worries
What about saving your projects long term? CapCut is limited but I still love it.
CapCut saves projects automatically to your computer, as does DaVinci
@@BenClaremont I am using iPad. Not sure how to backup those project files. I will save them to the cloud but that will run out eventually.
2:24 isn't it the same issue in filmora ?
i use both
What about PowerDirector 365 of Cyber Link? It is not for free, but easy to use and without the limitation you explain in the video.
i am using capcut and davinci together and it is perfect
i use capcut for most of my reels / shorts and daVinci for bigger client videos 👌
Nice 👍🏻
Hello ... what about the privacy issues with CapCut ?
13:00 🤔I've made videos longer than 15 minutes in Capcut
Much appreciated. I’m inspecting both of these, myself.
you also missed some big sells of DVR - the huge amount of add ons available in the market for just about text, transition and format.
What did you edit/export this video with? DaVinci... as it's beyond 15 min?
CapCut Pro- but… I also heard from multiple people that the 15 minute export limit is actually not being imposed in many countries
12:58 I exported a 2 hour video in Capcut and I Don't use Pro
In the Ts & Cs CapCut says it basically has the rights to use your content and your account identity in any way it likes, including the use by all affiliated third parties and can profit from it without paying you anything. I wouldn't go near any app with those sort of terms.
Even if it does- they don’t do that.
It's a chinese company, so yes they absolutely will.
When would you say is the right time to upgrade from Capcut to an advanced paid app? Or what separates experienced editors from beginner editors?
When your needs from an editor increase to more, beyond what the free version offers
I'm using CapCut and I want to start working in the video editing industry, any advice on how to start learning? Would CapCut be okay to use for professional editing jobs?
For professional jobs you could start with it for low budget clients, then move to Davinci Resolve once clients start getting bigger.
CapCut is neither meant for, nor will it ever be for professionals. If you want to become a professional, use the right tool from the beginning.
What's your thoughts on LumaFusion
Thank you for making this video.
Unfortunately not at this point.
Great video! Though I must point out, Capcut doesn't have a 15 minute limit.
I have been exporting videos over 30 minutes long for years. Haven't touched the payed version a single time.
Either way though, great video, and points out highs and lows of both.
It does, but it seems the restriction applies in certain countries but not others 👍🏻
@@BenClaremont ah, I see.
Well it seems for Australia there are no restrictions when it comes to time limit, so anyone may do with that what they will.
I wonder if it would be possible to Simply change the region on the computer without going crazy on a bunch of its other settings before launching the app or if it needs to be done during installation. However phone home features are a no bueno for me. I do all of my editing offline so if it needs to phone home for anything then it's not going to work for me.
thanks dude xD ..good info
Hi Ben,
I have got both softwares, but as the more professional software, in DaVinci I found lagging when I edit 4k videos. But not in Capcut, so Ive been using Capcut for editing, anyone know the reason for this ?
I use both CapCut on mobile / PC and DaVinci on PC both are solid choices so why not both..
I love your video Ben.
I needed this video so bad. Thank you for making it
other auto cutout features are not available to me for some reason.
Actually you can multitrack cut, you just need to select all media from timeline :)
Which is very annoying and inconvenient
