  • This week it is time for Team Average to do the testing, 5 golfers test the NEW 2019 Cobra F9 driver, it is proving very popular with Rick Shiels, Mark Crossfield and Co but how will it perform for amateur golfers? and we throw in the opinion of a PGA Professional!
    Is this the best driver of 2019? Will it be better the the Callway Epic Flash, TaylorMade M5, TaylorMade M6 ?

      I like that you had the average golfer to test them. But I feel if you would have switched the weight to the low spin on some of them, they would have gotten even better results. A few of them got higher launch on the cobra than their gamer, also had more spin cause their ball to fall out of the air. Therefore not show any improvement if any.

    This maybe one of the best club testing vids I've seen, maybe ever. Something that actually relates to us the average golfer and not just a pro club tester bomber. Just need a woman in the mix and and I think you could own this niche. Keep it up mate and post more of this type of review!

  • @AndrewConnComedy
    @AndrewConnComedy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The spin rates was higher is why the f9 wasn’t going as far as there normal clubs. Should have put the weight forward for them

    • @seizethecarp_
      @seizethecarp_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This. The 14g in the back and 2g in the front makes the F9 spin like crazy. 14g up front and its a different animal.

    • @peterjohnston6329
      @peterjohnston6329 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely, the ex pro had a spin rate was almost 33% higher with the Cobra. He said it was 15 yards shorter. If he was fitted so the spin rates were closer then surely it would have been a different story.

    Did the last guy swap the weights? That'd probably fix some of that spin problem which caused him to lose distance vs. M3. Maybe not all because the M3 is a very low spin driver but just curious.

    Andy...in my opinion this is the best way to do club reviews...all the the other TH-camrs doing club reviews are generally professionals...99% of us are not. This format generates a lot more trust for us handicap gofers that the review is honest but more importantly relevant to our golf ability. I vote to use this format for all your golf club reviews...it would certainly make you unique in the TH-cam universe.

      The Average Golfer I concur, for us 7-11 handicappers (my best golf is behind me). A broad spectrum of ability testers is by far the most ‘trustworthy’ reference point. If I had a swing like Rick I’d be a shop pro or teaching pro, but I don’t. So I need 250-270 run out, straight drives and this review gave me the confidence to consider the F9 (although my Rouge is pretty damn good)!

      agree, I question how good they were fit, with shafts, lofts etc. But the M3 is a great driver to be fair. But my experience with the F9 is that for a lot of us the head is too light (190grams). My fitter added 8 grams to the head and the spin dropped dramatically and much easier to control to turn over. Might not think it makes a lot of difference but it really did. And he did that without telling me so no psychological effect at all.

For example, was the spin up for the scratch golfer because the loft was higher or the shaft wasn’t tuned? Was the titleists guy’s D set to the stamped loft at 9.5 and the cobra at 10.5? Interesting to know. Keep it up though, great stuff!

    this is what all test videos should be about - normal, club players comparing with what they currently have in the bag. Surprised with the stats on the Cobra, seems to be a higher launch / higher spinning club with perhaps a bit of draw bias ... might give it a go, spot on about the price point; £350 seems reasonable, I baulk at £450+ for 1 club

    Great reviews and format Andy well done, I tested this against the my current driver and some of the new batch out and saw a pickup of 3mph in club head speed and 12 yards and sound and feel were fantastic.... Definitely helped me to drop the spin moving the heavier weight to the front and lofting down a bit hit some bombs!! Pre-ordered it on the day as a no brainer at the price point!! Totally agree with the comments about some of the new driver prices its getting out of control and going up every year without any added performance so fairplay to Cobra for keeping it a very reasonable price point.

Straighter, longer, etc.! Came from an TM M3. I tried them all while being fit. But someone else could get better results from a Callaway or other manufacturer. So weird! To each their own! Good video Andy. Like the innovative format and comparison with their existing drivers. Given cost was a common theme, any chance of reviewing lesser known manufacturers' latest offerings such as Tommy Armour, Tour Edge and Benross as a comparison against the 'big boys'?

    Great to hear the unbiased assessment from average golfers. Proves that new clubs don’t get everyone longer drives. Working with my pro over the next few months to find the right new driver for me. Love to see more of these for the new releases this year.

    I did a personal test of the Cobra 9, Taylor-made M5 and the Calloway Epic Rogue. After seeing results, the Cobra is my pick. It seemed to be easier to hit. The differences between them was actually minimal as far as performance (distance, spin, head speed, etc.) and the pricing lower. What is not to like???

    Hi Andy, Great way to test clubs for all of us amature golfers. I enjoyed watching as much as you did making it I think. Would have liked to see you hit it too?? One of your best reviews . Pleas ekeep doing them🖒

    Solid review Andy, enjoyed seeing golfers of different abilities hit this club. Though the stats do raise some questions. Were the golfers fitted into different head lofts, shafts, flex, weight settings to optimise their performance? For example Lewis the scratch golfer was spinning it over 1100rpm higher than his own fitted M3, too high at 3519rpm, this would have significantly reduced his carry distance with the F9.

      Each had a different shaft, weight changed for Lewis produced lower spin but also lower launch, no doubt always potential to tweak and change but happy with the set up each had.

    Excellent review. I think one thing that stands out for me, is how little improvement there is compared to drivers that are 4/5 years old. I think the guy playing the 915 was noticeable in the sense that his dispersion (bar one hook), was much better, however thought the cobra was better even though he missed it both ways. Distance isn't everything...if you find a driver that gets it on the short stuff, then don't switch on a whim of 5 extra yards!
