  • It's time to rethink what flawless is. It's time to stop listening to social media.
the goal of foundation is to even the skin tone.
A full coverage foundation applied heavily does not make your skin look flawless. It makes you look like you have flawless foundation on!
And it doesn't make you look younger!

Your mama was so right, Kelly Ross. I get lovely compliments like "your makeup looks beautiful." I realize the person giving the compliment is being a sweetheart, and I know that they're not trying to hurt me. But when I would get a compliment like that, I would think to myself that I'm doing something terribly wrong, and then I start scaling it back a bit. My hubby always told me I don't need makeup at all. My hubby is the sweetest fibber, lol.

I used to skip foundation, and only use concealer where I needed it. Somehow, over the past 5-6 years, I've fallen into the foundation trap. i´m like how you was.Since 4 years i´m only using concealer under my eyes. But because i´m light, i don´t want to got without bronzer. And TH-cam ifluencr are telling us only with rouge we would look fresh.
Plus i personally loke highlighter. So i´m using all of these products and what happens it looks like i would have yoused foundaion anyway (so no assumption that my skin lokks good o its own) but because i have´t used foundation, bronzr, hghlighter and rouge are clogging up the pores..they make the pores visible .
So what now? Is it really better to go like less is more? Somehow i don´t think so, because i don´t see a solution.Wayn is smearing make up from left to right anyway. And i feel like saying to myself, if your using make up , go for it 100% or don´t take anything.

I think that this concept of "flawless skin" is very cultural. I'm French, I'm 58, and all my life I've seen my mother, most of my friends, my daughter, and her friends wearing no foundation and very little makeup. Most of us are obsessed with taking care of our skin. Sometimes, we are overdoing it, though. It seems "too much" should never be the answer.

    • @supposedlyhuman
      @supposedlyhuman ปีที่แล้ว +7

Skincare should always be the priority and embracing the natural skin no matter how it is should be the born. One shouldn't feel the need to wear makeup or as such they don't look good without it while you do.

THIS is why Wayne Goss will always be The Boss in the make-up game! A satin finish stick foundation with the least amount of product possible has been my go-to look since I found this channel nearly a decade ago. IMO, after age 45 or so, less really is more when it comes to make-up. Even if I'm just going to the supermarket, a clean, natural looking face & swipe of color on my lips is all I need to look pulled together & feel confident. Wayne, Lisa Eldridge & Hung Vanngo seem to be the only pro MUAs on social media who understand that beautiful, natural looking skin is the secret to a beautiful face. If only the rest of these You Tubers would take the hint, instead of slathering 2 & 3 pumps of foundation on every face they beat.

    • @supposedlyhuman

Even though i am 19 and started makeup an year back, i do this. Rarely any foundation all i want is even-ness. The advantage i feel is that i barely feel there's anything on my face. I don't even apply it to the areas I dont need. And it looks very natural,i can use a dot of foundation as a bb cream or skin tint as well, it's just the techniques. I don't wear makeup that often thou as i am a student and lack time and obviously i don't like wearing it everyday or often ,Maybe once or twice a month for me to test my skills and feel happy. Makeup is fun and it also makes me feel more confident when i know my features have been enhanced instead of making me look like a diff person. loved your comment, always such a treat to learn from seniors ❤️.

I used to think I had to cover every imperfection to look decently good, but lately I've been into the more natural look, my go-to base product's been the IT Cosmetics CC Nude Glow, super lightweight, one pump evens out my skin just enough, it gives me a healthy glow and my skin feels nicely hydrated until I take it off, and you know what? Literally nobody looks at us that close. Those are for dermatologists, not for us to become obsessed with the concept of "perfect" skin.

I've always loved this kind of look on skin. I've practiced the 'Lisa Eldrige skin' technique for a long time. It's quite hard to get that balance with just enough coverage and too much coverage. The places that need coverage on my face (the redness around nose) are usually ones where the foundation doesn't want to stay and look easily very cakey. You also need the right products, otherwise it'll look off no matter how you apply it.

I want to see my skin.. so I’ve started using very little tinted moisturizer, a dot or two of concealer where I need it, and cream blush. I look YEARS younger. I’ve started really taking care of the base, my skin. It’s done wonders. I’ll never go back to a full face again. Thanks for doing this Wayne. We need to normalize REAL skin again!

Wayne, you slap on product and it always comes out AWESOME ---- and you are very right about the perfect look. I was taught many years ago that less is more when it comes to makeup. Recently the layered look as come in fashion. That's not always good, and I'm not comfortable wearing "a mask" on my face. Thank you, wise one!

So true! Lately I’ve taken to mixing in moisturizer with my foundation OR I use my concealer in the same way.. I seem to always pull orange no matter the brand I use.. and after spending far too much money on expensive foundations, I bought a small tray w/ a metal mixer and I make my own concoction; using some color theory and a lot of trial and error, I’m finally getting some results I like! As always thanks for the encouragement and realistic representation of what skin IRL looks like ❤

Ugh Wayne you’re such a king. My best tips have come from you. I’ve never been a foundation wearer, because even though I wanted to use it when I was younger, I couldn’t find one that didn’t feel too heavy. Now in my late 30s, my skin is better, but my eyes have some lines, and foundation ages me. I spot conceal where necessary and focus on natural liner, lashes, brows, and lips.

Thank you!!! Finally some sanity in the media beauty space! When I talk to someone with too much foundation on, I always feel like I'm talking to a mask. This method has been my routine for more years than I care to admit and it works every single time, no matter the occasion. Two additional advantages of this is that it works for every age, and that you never have to worry about the dreaded "line of demarkation!" Brilliant!

My mother always taught me that fresh skin was prettiest! I am getting older (50’s) and my skin is still in okay condition and I’m doing my best to preserve it. Recently I’ve went to using a tinted sunscreen followed by a really rubbed in powder and my skin has never been happier. My daughter still had breakouts into her 20’s and I finally convinced her it was sensitive skin not acne! Now her skin is beautiful with just the occasional bump (seems to be dairy triggered.) Healthy skin is what we need!

I agree, this is great, thank you! With my tan olive skin tone it was always so hard to find a foundation color that didn't make me look gray, that I rarely wore it. I try to have great skin and just use a little concealer under my eyes and any blemishes I might have and always a healthy little flush. I'm always told I look younger than I am, foundation can look really aging.

I have been a stay at home for the last 4 years and have gotten used to seeing myself with no makeup. I was trying to use less liquid foundation and less makeup overall but found myself using the same amount. After watching your tutorial on how to use Laura Geller's double baked foundation and bare minerals pressed foundation I decided to give them a try and I love them both. I use much less makeup, my skin looks like skin and not a mask I can get it done in under 10 minutes. I am trying to remember makeup accentuates not covers up.

Exactly!!! Im 44 and I have a ton of broken capillaries in the center of my face but other than that my skin is aging nicely, a few fine lines, not much sagging/sinking. I use a light coat of medium cover foundation with a nice loose powder to set and a couple pumps of setting spray. It helps cover the capillaries but not totally so my skin looks REAL and ppl say how nice my skin looks, not how nice my makeup looks 😉

Numbers 11, if this is the case, learn about each foundation's viscosity, sounds like yours is too thick for you and consider method of application, brush, sponge, or fingers Marlena Stell just did a video about this today.
