  • In todays video ima show you how to do an oil change on a mercury 115 4 stroke outboard. It’s very simple and easy and can save you money doing it yourself rather taking it to a dealer. Thanks for tuning in!!

The yellow plug under the oil filter is for attaching a drain tube to. That is where the oil gos when removing the filter

I kinda figured that but didn’t have any hose hose in the shop to demonstrate that. We’ve just always done it like this at our shop cus it creates the least amount of mess. Appreciate the comment tho so peeps can know if they don’t have a sucker like I did

Hey, I’ve got that same engine, it’s a 2020. I’m have a terrible problem with the spark plugs fouling, I’m currently on my 3rd set maybe 4th set of spark plugs. Is this normal for the Mercury 115hp engine? Do you have any suggestions???

Do you have a separate video for pumping the oil in through the bottom? I was told it needed to be pumped in? Not sure if that’s true

I’m assuming your talking about changing the lower gear lube oil and not this engine oil. But when you do gearlube change you fill from the bottom screw in the gearcase till it come out the top vent hole

Does boat need to be out of water to change oil?

Not necessarily. Def way easier and more enviornmently safe doing it on land. But u certainly could do it in the water as long as your high enough to get to the side drain for the oil

Question. My 2021 mercury outboard motor is blowing white ish smoke when I accelerate. The motor only has 20 hours on it. Boat is always in garage, and intake it out 5-10 times a year. Any idea why it would be blowing whitish smoke? Anything helps

Was it winterized? And this is your first start up? Maybe fogging oil/fuel treatment if so. Otherwise could just be steam

@outboardfinatic Sat in the garage, the last time I ran the boat on the water was two months ago. I added fuel stabilizer before I ran the boat on the water this morning. The only thing I did differently was I pumped 76 gas instead of Chevron.

This was just strictly an oil change video I did during winterization season. I’m well aware of the routine maintenances and this customer gets those services yearly with us
