Hey guys wanted to say thank you for clicking on my channel. I hope my content is sufficient and pleasing for you viewers. What I want to do with this channel is buy and flip outboards and show you guys how to do a lot of the work that is necessary to work on these marine engines. Also just general boating and "how to videos" and a lot of work to different varieties of not only outboards, but inboards and possibly even some jet skis. Would love to hear feedback from you guys and what you guys wanna see when I shoot these videos. As always thank you guys for watching the video

Merci de me dire la référence et les mesures du Turbine pompe a eau que vous avez changé. Merci pour votre vidéo
I have one of these and I tried installing a killswitch but now it won't start and I've pit the old one back on and it still won't start I've cleaned the card and I'm picking up a new sparkplug any tips?
Hello, I have the same engine and I have a question whether the crankshaft play up and down is a problem or is it supposed to be like this?
Question, I have the same motor but I can not get it to shift into forward I got into the lower unit everything seems to be in good shape....when I shift into forward it wants to go but I just hear a gear trying to get into the forward gear.. I have read that a new prop and bushing will solve any ideas thank you
Does boat need to be out of water to change oil?
Not necessarily. Def way easier and more enviornmently safe doing it on land. But u certainly could do it in the water as long as your high enough to get to the side drain for the oil
Is that a short shaft?thanks
Yes
it's not a fitter it's a one way valve
I rebuilt the exact same outboard motor.. Very reliable engine 👍🏻👍🏻
6:44 you want to make sure both the shift lever and prop are in neutral when you tighten the coupling nut. The nut should move up from the inspection port in forward and down from the inspection port in reverse.
Those nuts are supposed to be torque spec. What's the torq specs? I watched this video and burned out my impeller I had to buy another one
I need help know what to get for my shallow water tilt
Like the tilt pin? Or what do you mean
If the skag is trashed , don't buy the motor. It was previously abused.
Ola eu pedir a esfera do afogador vc sabe o diâmetro da esfera ????? 😮😮 A medida da esfera???
straight and to the point!!!! Thank you
Absolutely thank you for the comment/feedback much appreciated
do you know what the part number for the Carb kit was?
I used a Sierra 18-7212 carb kit. Don’t remember what the oem kit #is but the Sierra ones have been working fine for me. You won’t use all the gaskets in the kit but as long as you watch the carb part in my vid I show which ones you need
That black squiggly silicon on the power head mounting surface is the gasket.
Where did you get your spark tester?
From my vendor from work. I’m not sure how you get one maybe Amazon?
thanks for this super informative video! I am trying to disconnect the power unit from the midsection on my motor so that I can replace my cracked driveshaft housing. But after removing the 6 bolts like the service manual said, the power unit won't budge and not loose at all. Any ideas?
Never taken one apart that far but I have had problems before with some other small outboards where they bolt the exhaust tube underneath the powerhead and I had to remove those before the powerhead will lift off. Just a thought to check out as I never had to do that yet for this motor
Nice youtube.com/@marvinrschwartz7402?si=OzvvxwMKBGgtqkx4
The super loud music is not helpful. Would have preferred if you just gave some helpful narration during the process.
Yea I’ve kinda addressed that in my newer videos. My editing and stuff wasn’t the best but certainly getting better. Thank you for the feedback tho
the second gasket you put on at 16:12, is this required? most diagrams im seeing for a 1994 do not use this but everything else about this carb is the same
Yes it is necessary for it to run correctly. Depending on vintage of the motor they’ll have different setups for the fuel pump. One like this and others use a plastic piece in between the 2 pieces and has a spring on it
That only happens when you don’t flush the motor it clogs it up and causes problems
Not many mechanics in my area work on older motors and I’m having issues with mine. I’ve got a 1997 merc 150efi 2stroke, motor starts & runs great, but after going for a run and hitting 5000rpms it will shut off completely mid run. Starts right back up fine. Replaced fuel uptake in tank & gas line. I’ve seen some comments out there about voltage regulator. Any idea?
Could be a couple things. Hard to tell without seeing it and working on it but just some things come to mind is are you hitting the rev limiter. Is it overheating and the engine is putting you in guardian mode. Low oil in your tank cus the floats on them always go bad and the engine will shut you down so you don’t blow it up. The only other thing i can think of is not enough gas and or the injectors need cleaning/vst high pressure pump isn’t keeping up with then engine. Would almost have to do a fuel pressure test on the vst to see if it working properly or not. That’s just a handful of things to check out
@@outboardfinatic appreciate the response, my next step will be to perform a fuel pressure test. I’ve read about the rev limiter issue, but I’ve never heard of it shutting the engine off completely like mines does?
Awesome video! I just purchased a 2010 model that will not run, and this video has definitely increased my confidence. Thank you very much.
@@vinson6337 absolutely thank you for the feedback !!!
It's iron fortified
I’m looking to see if the 25xd 2 stroke has a thermostat and how to replace , having a heating problem at high speed
@@LanceEnglot it should have one. Usually they are right on the top of the water jacket. Should be just 2 bolts and then it’s really easy to replace. Just pull the thermostat out and it’ll more than likely have like a rubber grommet on it. Should be able to reuse it unless it torn. And believe they also just get a mounting gasket. Probs the easiest thermostats to do
@@outboardfinatic thank you , as far as I can tell mine is a late 80’s motor , I’ll take a look thank you for your reply !!
I had a merc inboard/ outboard and the manual stated to check the gear oil before every outing for water contamination and to also change out the drain plug gasket every year because they crack and let water into the gear case. This is what happens when people get complacent about regular preventative maintenance as stated in the OEM owners manual.
Absolutely correct. This guy just bought this boat and didn’t check it before running it unfortunately. Also with I/Os they had a lot more fail spots for gearlube to leak out. So you really gotta do you due diligence when owning one of those. I replace hundreds of gearlube hoses for the gearlube monitors to the outdrive they always crack and leak or like you said the gaskets and the biggest one is fishing line behind the prop shaft
Wheres the orientation of gaskets??
Man that lower unit has been beat to F###! Was time for a new one
Right lmao!!
That’s beat???? Lmao
@@JayZee-lo8qythink he was referring more so to the fact of the gears being shredded and not the visual of the outside housing lol. But none the less we still replaced the whole gearcase with a good used one we had rebuilt to sell and will probs be going through this one to see if it’s even worth it but most likely not
Surprised on the low speed, I have the 2024 model and it hits around 19mph. Still great video…
What kinda boat you got it on? I got the 5hp on a square stern scanoe and i'm getting almost 15. Gonna keep playing with the trim, upgrade the carb, and maybe a hydrofoil
@@rootwad running a 319 skimma stacer aluminium boat. So around 3.2m and weight around 50kg
I suggest throwing back those original float bowls in ur carb. The white ones that come with most of the carb rebuild kits tend to swell over time from gasoline and jam, causing flooding and all that👍🏻
How can I save this video? Got the same motor it works good but I’ve previously had proablems with the carberator and this video will be very helpful
How do you synchronize in time an engine like this? Have a 1986 mercury 20 horse outboard grill similar to this one I haven’t found much on timing and synchronization of these engines.
I have the same motor as that, and it won't rev as high as yours on the water. If i go full throttle, after about 3/4 and past it bogs right down and will just about stall. I have to find the magic spot to get it to rev as high as it will go but i know it should go higher.
Also I have a 9.9 hp parts motor, would I notice a performance difference by swapping carbs? Thanks
I have a 2004 EFI with the same exact problem so what other powerhead can I put online?
I can't find 14 nuts. Are you including the cowling mounts do those come off cuz I can't get mine to budge and it seems like I have all of them at 9 nuts so where could I be missing them other than those cowling mounts which are happen to be really rusty and they are bolts.
At 11:26 the float is turned upside down compared to 17:00 - ?
Where is the installation video, no luck locating it. THX!
The yellow plug under the oil filter is for attaching a drain tube to. That is where the oil gos when removing the filter
I kinda figured that but didn’t have any hose hose in the shop to demonstrate that. We’ve just always done it like this at our shop cus it creates the least amount of mess. Appreciate the comment tho so peeps can know if they don’t have a sucker like I did
Typical owners
Hahah ain’t that the truth
Thanks for showing the carb rebuild in detail. Very helpful!
Absolutely thank you for the feedback!!
Great vid. I'm trying to choose between buying one like this or a 4 stroke 9.9. The difference in weight is a big factor. But nice dilemma to have 😊
Best video I found 👍👍👍👍👍 Perfect now to fix up my 15 hp Mercury
Awesome thank you so much for the feedback. Have any qs lmk I also have some other vids similar to these 15s so you can also relate to those if need be. Happy fixing and hopefully you can get yours up and running smoothly
I looked for part two on here and couldn’t find it where you put it back together
th-cam.com/users/shorts9XVIiangWKo?si=jhFuYgDGWbgcAtaQ
What’s the trick to getting the bottom end back on? I can’t get the bolts up through the bottom end to get the nuts on after I was done.
Spin the powerhead and make sure it’s locking in the lower unit. As well as making sure the water tube is hitting. If that’s all lined up it should slide up very easily to put the nuts on
Did it still pee?
Hahah not before changing it out no it didn’t. I always test run them before just didn’t record it prior to changing it out
Yeah I figured was just wondering because I'm having a overheating issue and done changed thermostats and I opened up the head gasket cover to clean the water ways and stuff I'm guessing water pump/impeller but it still pee's
@@erikislas6734 yea that’s usually turns out to be a thermostat if it’s overheating or like you said the impeller. They can still pump and overheat. Just cus it’s pumping dosent mean it’s holding the water long enough in the block to actually keep it cool
@@outboardfinatic ok yeah I'm going to do the water pump it should be here this week i done the thermostats last week but still getting hot
@@erikislas6734 gotcha gotcha. Yea here at the shop it’s a bit easier to solve since we can hook up to it with a computer and that usually can tell you pretty quick what it is. But my guess is either something is cloggged up somewhere, thermostat isn’t doing what it’s suppose to be doing and also just make sure you put the right temp thermostat in cus there are different temp ones possibly. And or the water pump just isn’t pushing enough water through the system
Wrench. 5/8
Why is he hiding his face
Just to cover my identity that’s all
Where do you recommend getting all your parts? I have a 1980 mercury 25hp.
Hi there I get most of my parts from the boat dealer that I work for. A really good website that has parts and shows diagrams and what not is boats.net. When you look at your parts that you need as long as it has a green check mark next to it it means they have it in stock. No check mark means they don’t have it and if you order it it’ll take forever to get it. So just make sure there’s a green check mark next to it
Question. My 2021 mercury outboard motor is blowing white ish smoke when I accelerate. The motor only has 20 hours on it. Boat is always in garage, and intake it out 5-10 times a year. Any idea why it would be blowing whitish smoke? Anything helps
Was it winterized? And this is your first start up? Maybe fogging oil/fuel treatment if so. Otherwise could just be steam
@outboardfinatic Sat in the garage, the last time I ran the boat on the water was two months ago. I added fuel stabilizer before I ran the boat on the water this morning. The only thing I did differently was I pumped 76 gas instead of Chevron.
