- As a candidate, Donald Trump railed against corruption on the campaign trail. And he used the perception of many Americans that their political system is rigged against them to win the White House.
But as president, Trump has mixed private business and public duties in unprecedented ways.
Previous US presidents put their financial assets into a blind trust and sold their businesses before inauguration, to avoid the possibility of conflicts of interest.
But Trump refused to divest from the more than 500 companies he owns under the umbrella of the Trump Organization. Instead, he put them into a trust and handed over day-to-day management to his sons.
"When Donald Trump said he was giving up running the businesses and putting it into a trust, I literally erupted in laughter. Donald Trump doesn't run any businesses, he is not a competent businessman. He leaves it up to other people. And furthermore, the trust that Donald set up, the sons have said they tell dad what's going on in the business," says David Cay Johnston, editor of DC Report and author of The Making of Donald Trump and It's Even Worse Than You Think.
"He can reach in and withdraw money at any time. Whether or not he has done so, we don't know. But this is not anything at all like a blind trust. This is like what you expect to see in a family business posing as a country," he adds.
The overlap between Trump's business activities and his role as president has given rise to allegations that he is leveraging his office for personal gain.
These charges are laid out in a series of lawsuits, which allege that Trump is violating the Emoluments Clauses of the US Constitution, by accepting payments or benefits from foreign states as well as federal and state governments.
The attorney general for the District of Columbia, Karl Racine, calls the Emoluments Clauses the United States' "oldest anti-corruption law."
With the attorney general of Maryland, Racine has brought a lawsuit (known as D.C. and Maryland v. Trump) focused on the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC, and the payments or benefits from foreign and domestic governments the president may be receiving there.

If one 10th of the standard here by which president Trump is judged, was weighed upon Biden and family, not only would Biden suffer under the emoluments clause, he would suffer under the treason clause as well.

Okay, let that sink in while knowing actual history that tells us with verifiable fact that President Trump gave America the best economy, and most secure Nation in history.
He literally gave blacks, Hispanics and women lowest unemployment, highest employment and highest wages in history and in 50 years for everyone else, while simultaneously implementing the first step act that freed more than 11,000 black men and women from federal prison, put there by Joe Biden's '90s crime bills that punished blacks at a rate of 10 times that of whites who snorting powdered cocaine, for smoking crack.
Add those facts to the fact that President Trump is the first president in history to fund HBCU's long-term, instead of having them grovel for peanuts every year at the foot of the president. Let's also remember he officially placed our embassy in Jerusalem where he recognized it as officially Israel's, while making historic trade deals with Mexico and Canada, sanctioning China for the first time in decades after they've routinely abused America, stolen our technology, and spread deadly pandemics to kill millions of people around the world, and checked Russia at the gate, stopping them from profiting from a pipeline, now officially given the green light by Biden.
Yeah on balance I think we can clearly see that is is not president Trump himself who has profited from his presidency, but every single American during his tenure.
Sadly we will now experience the antithesis of President Trump's winning administration

This video is a tremendous stretch. The counter-argument is, what do you want from him? He can no longer stay at Maralago, which his visits drive up prices? He can no longer sell his name as a brand to put on buildings? Should he sell all of his buildings? I mean these are clearly unreasonable things to ask of him. I think the core of what is said in this video is basically that we cant have rich people as president because their involvement in other countries is a conflict of interests that could be construed as emoluments

You know what his tax documents are going to say? They would say that he took every single tax deduction humanly possible, pays very little tax and it would be used as a political football against him. It isnt a rule, why would he release it? Plus, it wouldnt show where his money is hidden, not even how much debt he has at Deutsch Bank.
I think this video is telling some things incorrectly. Basically, once you reach this level everyone would like to check out things you own, sometimes you just pick to stay in Trump hotel because he is the president and you want to try it. He is just doing what everyone would do, the politicians who sold their businesses, how big were the businesses. Do you expect Trump to sell his company? Be realistic if you were him would you sell it?
Please judge things equally, possibly there are things he's not doing right but don't say he shouldn't be making money when he owns an empire and he is a president too, of course it will continue to sell. If people didn't want him, how did he get there?

No one is saying he is not allowed to make money. We don't expect him to sell his business, we expect him to put it in a blind trust, which is what all former presidents, who had businesses, have done except Jimmy Carter who sold his peanut farm. The reason for this is to help prevent the president from being compromised and/or allowing other govvernments to have influence on him. Trump did not put his businesses in a blind trust because his intentions were always to personally profit off his presidency (he is about 4 million in debt). If you want access to trump all you have to do is spend money at his hotels. If you spend money at his hotels and your the head of state of another country you will have direct access to the president, just as Russia, Saudi arabia, and Turkey have done. What did they get in return for the money he personally made off of them? Russia had sanctions lifted, we pulled troops out of Syria allowing turkey to take over territory that is militarily advantageous to both turkey and Russia. Trump has stated his backing of Saudia arabia in their war with Yemen. Why? Because the have but a lot of military weaponry from us and in one trip to the USA spent over $250,000 at trumps Washington DC hotel. Do you see why it is imperative for the president to place their businesses in a blind trust?
