- In this video I show off my copy of Final Fantasy Anthology for the PS1 that has a silver disc. Most people are not aware that Sony allowed the reprinting of PS1 games as late as 2019, mostly because the only company that found it worth printing their games for that long was Square Enix. Because the manufacturing tools to create discs with the black surface were eventually taken out of use, very late PS1 printings were instead printed with a disc that was silver. This is just a demonstration of one of those games working.

I had no idea. If they’ve been printing these as late as 2019, that sounds promising for aspiring indie game developers who might want to press their games on silver discs
Sadly I don't think Sony would allow that, they were very strict on what was required to keep printing these games. Companies needed the original files for art that were approved back in the 90s or early 2000s and they could not change the art files. It seems SE were the only ones that could provide that or were the only ones willing. I do wonder how hard it would be to press a reproduction that would work on an actual PS1 without mods though, and how legal that would be. It's much harder to do that with discs than it is with cartridges.

@@bootmii98 yeah, I don't think legality would be the huge issue though, I think the biggest issue would be getting a game to boot on an unmodified console. The only disc based consoles I know of that that would be possible on are the Dreamcast and PS2 Slim (not fat).

i got silver reprints of final fantasy origins, chronicles, anthology, 9, and chrono cross off the square enix store back in 2020 as part of a black friday sale also got reprints of ff 10 and 10-2 as well as kingdom hearts 1 and 2 i added in kh3 and also shenmue 3 at the time to hit 100 usd or so to get free shipping. it was like 3.75 each ps1 game and 5.00 for each ps2 game. this was the last time i bought anything physical for older systems.

Well I'll be damned...I bought a "new" copy off of eBay years ago and thought it was a bootleg because it did not have the case sticker on top or was falsely being sold as "new" because of that cheap shrink wrap job. Now I feel bad for returning it to the seller.
Yeah, these aren't super well known and a lot of the reviews on the Amazon page even claim that they're bootleg copies. It's really uncommon for these to be talked about, even though they're very common copies of the games these days.
Yay physical games. So review tech USA quit the news spin cycle. I'm happy for the man, for the first time in years I'm happy to be a subscriber because I know when he comes back his occasional videos that he will upload will be quality. And he admits he makes enough money on the streams so that's a win-win for him and us.
I saw he stopped with the news recently. In any case, I'll make sure to always watch his content because I've been watching him for well over a decade at this point.
What HDMI cord are you using on your PS1. They're all over the internet. Nice flex with final fantasy x.
I'm using the Hyperkin HDMI cables. Highly recommend them, I have one for SNES/GameCube/N64, for PS1/PS2, and for Dreamcast. Their products are all super high quality and the HDMI cables are around $30 each.

The nicest adapter I have is from behrbros. Love that stuff.
Just bought a mcbazel ( the ability to change the size and definition has me interested) and a bitfunx ps1/ps2. The bitfunx works good, but I really love the mcbazel.

Do they have reprints of Parasite Eve or jus final fantasy??
Just the games I showed at the end of the video from the website in the description. Mostly just Final Fantasy, but also Chrono Trigger.
