The GX9 compared to my old Canon 20D is in a class of its own, days are gone where lugging a big camera round with a big zoom lens are over, I love the tactile small feel of this camera and it does not disappoint, the imagines I get impress me every time, I think Panasonic won't bring out a GX9 MKII which is a shame, comapred to some of the Sony's, Fujifilm, Canons, and Nikons, this camera still holds its own, and the mega pixel sizes have not really jumped that much....lets face it, most print out at A4, and that's good enough at 8MP, so 20MP in my books is high enough for me. Brilliant camera, and so small compact, lightweight, but most of all brilliant image quality.

The GX9 (2018 release) is the small camera I have been looking for. (Small refers to overall size which relates to the lens ie. small “camera” means small lens). A 2024\2025 model for me is a most exciting thing to anticipate. I compare this to the X100 V to VI transition (added IBIS & subject recognition), that has made it a runaway success. Imagine a GX9 II with AI subject recognition for street and family, phase-detect fast AF, non-colour tearing EVF, smoother exp comp dial and a retained tilt LCD for street - wow. Panasonic would have a winner. I would have 2 systems - FF for quality and M43 for compactness. (A 3rd system too - GFX/Hasselblad for portraits when a $ windfall comes). I have a FUJI XT now - but I realise it’s a compromise between FF & M43 - it has neither the overall IQ nor compactness I crave - Fuji colours and looks being its only saviour. And FUJI AF can be frustrating like leaving home without my glasses. Panasonic can grow its niche.

Canon for work, but the GX9 for all the other stuff. Great daily carry-around camera. Wonderful image quality (even in low light), love the stabilisation, and I'm blown away by the Lumix universe. It's even got me looking at their FF bodies for work. On the negative, the camera isn't weather sealed (not great for winter here in Sweden). I gave up using back-button-focus as the buttons couldn't handle it. And if you rely on exposure compensation, this camera isn't great. Or rather, I've found the exposure compensation dial on my (new at point of purchase) camera was too stiff to use easily. Think clicks rather than a scroll. I shoot manual so it's not been a problem, but I'd definitely check to see how it works on other bodies if you an Aperture shooter.

Yes, the exposure compensation wheel is way too stiff. It has been quite a disapointment for me too. Fortunately you can easily reprogram the back dial to work as an exposure compensation dial. The official exp comp dial is now purely decorative on my camera :)
I've read similar complaint from other people on this channel, so its not only yours or mine.
I've stopped thinking about that issue for long.

@@marcrodet4900 I had GX85 sold it and regret it. I was considering a RX100iii, Va and VII, what it stopped me from buying its that they will get dust in the sensor either after few months or few year, but eventually they will. So I bought a GX9 instead. never had dust problem with the GX85 and if I have with the GX9 I can clean the sensor my self like I do with the rest of my cameras.
I had a budget for the Fuji X100VI but thinking about it now is a bit ridiculous price for a walk around camera that has the risk of getting dust in the sensor dow the road

Just wanted to thanks for this and other recent reviews of this camera and the way you did them
Being a guy who started learning when ISO was a film choice. Never had an issue finding a theme or subject though.
Then stopped photography really, young kids and other work … then later went to action video for vlogs etc around outdoor expeditions I got into.
Then eventually came back to photos recently, I’m sort of learning again and a bit overwhelmed with the stuff on there that I probably don’t want tbh.
Anyway, I won’t be running expositions any time soon but wanted something better than an iPhone 15 etc for actual photos so I just bought a used body and 3 lens options for less than the iPhone 15
I have to be honest, this camera is more capable than I am just now but what a thing it is … and everyone misses the point a bit sometimes …
Yeah we all want to be better but we also want doable fun doing it. This camera makes it possible at half the price of the Fuji x100vi and with 3 top end interchangeable lens.
I’ve some work to do to get intuitive with it and your help is appreciated… anyway, thanks

A good camera for street photography, so as not to confuse people around you with a big black camera (big black camera effect). It’s hardly noticeable in your hands, easy to carry, doesn’t take up much space, you can almost always take it with you not only on trips, but also on any walk in the park or in the city, or anywhere else at all! But the camera of the second version should be technically at a higher level than the first version. In this case, it can serve as a more realistic alternative to the main camera, and not a modest addition to it! I know that many enthusiast photographers would like to have a small but high-tech camera, understanding the problems of the technical limitations of small bodies, but still much closer in characteristics to the G9 and G9II cameras, with well-thought-out ergonomics, and with a capacious battery, which is very necessary for a comfortable feeling of sufficient battery charge when traveling and for a more comfortable grip.
Also important: Updating the fleet of optics (especially miniature ones) for MFT cameras. Not just cosmetic! And taking into account modern requirements and user requests. For users, the quality of the entire system, and not just its individual components, is very important.

I got the camera but I have trouble shooting with the viewfinder that beside being too small actually is not color-correct. Or for that matter, exposure correct. Maybe therés a setting for the viewfinder? Who knows. But the LCD on the back is good and easier to use and judge exposure and color on. Still, a charming camera that is fun to bring along.

4 months on from this video being made and was contemplating this camera but I have to be honest. It seems the battery for this one is not too popular in the shops here in the uk. It’s the only thing stopping me buying it. If I had the money to snap up a bunch of batteries straight away, I’d jump all over this camera.

Is this camera relevant enough to be used for outdoor activities that have slightly extreme weather intensity, even if you still use it carefully when blowing dust and splashing water?

I've had gx7, gx8, gx80, and a gx9 in the past. It is easy to say I'm a fan of the design of these cameras, but the gx9's exposure compensation dial is too stiff. I assigned it to one of the function control dials. It's also a shame they ditched the weather sealing of the gx8 and the much superior viewfinder. My wish list to Panasonic would be a weather sealed gx80, with the fantastic IBIS, mechanical shutter, 20mp sensor of a gx9, and viewfinder of the gx8. Size-wise the gx8 also was perfectly fine for me, so I don't mind a slightly larger body if it means we'd get weather sealing and a larger viewfinder back. In terms of looks, the gx7 with the 20mm f1.7ii was great (IMO better than the gx9 and pen-f), but not high on priorities for me. Although, it did also feel a bit more comfortable in the hands than the others. High end video features would also be unnecessary for me, so cutting back on those to make the device cheaper would be okay by me too. Throw in some new, small, affordable, weather sealed primes and they'd be onto a real winner for me. Unless, of course, Olympus get there first with a pen-f ii

I bought the 12mm Summilux for my mint silver GX8 now. This combo is so bombastic, I love it. It almost looks like a Leica and you have the weather sealing. If I find a mint GX9 I will buy it too and the 20mm 1.7 pancake, I think, or the 9mm or 15mm. The 12mm belongs to my GX8 I think.

Managed to pick one up in 2021 June as a birthday gift for myself. Came with the kit lens, a pancake zoom and surprisingly the retailer offered an additional original spare battery. Was so happy I got one I silver and it’s Brand New.
As I transited towards FF, I practically cleared all my M43 gears (Which I regret) but I still held onto my 17 f1.8 Oly lens. As my very first serious camera was actually a EM5II, that sentimental value made me held on to it.
Even till today, I am still picking this camera up with the Pany 17 f1.8. A killer combo for everyday photos.
Call me old school but I still prefer a camera over a smartphone camera.
Now my library of Lumix/OM System/Olympus grew so much since my GX9 purchase and was happy that I didn’t truly left this platform.
Made me realised it’s not about the sensor size, but the joy and experience of photography.

I had the GX8, but sold it as it (along with every M43 camera I looked at then) didn't allow exposure compensation using auto iso in manual mode, which I have found to be the best way for me to shoot. Is this any different in that regard?
