  • I got a new Panasonic GX9 camera! I'd been in the market for a new camera for a while and I had a pretty specific set of features that I needed!
    Then my local camera shop Conns Cameras in Dublin had a combined sale with Panasonic and I got €280 ($325) off its body only price of €799 to €520!!
    Absolutely in love with the new camera and really excited to use it :)

      They're great! You just have to be ready to work with the advantages and the disadvantages (but I always have fun using M43 cameras!) I'm waiting to see how the A7R-IV shapes up.. I think Sony is in seriously good form right now and in the next couple of years it'll make more sense for me to pick one up 😊 I'm very video/Editing based (that's my job) but I'd love to get into more stills work in a professional capacity in the future!

      I just jumped out of Canon into MFT with the G9 and I got to agree. I'm loving the 7-14 and the Leica/Panasonic 100-400 lenses. They stack up to my L-series glass very well. I think the 7-14 mounted on my G9 is sharper than my EF16-35Lii on my 5Dii. The 100-400 on the G9 is a freak show. I've been doing things that should be impossible were it not for the dual stabilisation you get from that combo.

    The GX8 wasn't really talked about either (especially here in Canadaland). I picked up the GX8 a couple of years ago for the sole reason that I needed to cheaply shoot a project in 4K (since my Canon full frame gear wasn't exactly up to the challenge). Of course I looked at Sony (and to a certain extent Fuji as well), but in the end I decided on the GX8 as it seemed to give me the best bang for the buck. And you know what happened? The little bugger turned out to be an awesome stills camera as well! It actually made me fall in love with photography again. I found that over the years I'd gotten complacent with my style, and the little GX8 and all it's charms gave me a reason to begin experimenting with composition and the artistry behind photography all over again. About six months after that, my studio was broken into and all of my Canon gear was stolen. The only thing the thieves left behind was my GX8 and the Panny 42.5mm 1.7 lens (probably thought it was just a toy)...so now I've fully embedded myself within the M43 ecosystem and I couldn't be happier! I use both the GH5 and the GX8 for studio photography, and I've started shooting concerts with the GH5. I absolutely LOVE these little cameras. Great video Conner!

    • @CreativeConnor

      Sven I'm sorry to hear about your studio my friend 😡 some people are just the worst! I'm delighted that you've found the GH5 and GX8 to be such brilliant workers for you 😁 I always love how much confidence i have using my GH5, I just feel I can get whatever shot I want 😍 and thats what it's all about!! The GX9 is making me a keen black and white shooter for stills now and I've never been happier out taking photographs for myself 😆 cheers for the awesome comment! I hope you're well? 😎

    Hi there, I LOVE the camera! I´m on the street with this camera for almost a year now and appreciate it every day more and more. It´s just the underdog that I was looking for. "Leica for the poor" with a lot more features and custom buttons and I can´t see any difference in the image quality to the G9. In combination with the 15mm f 1.7 a fantastic combo - and so deeply underrated! Good choice!

  • @chrishuang8763
    @chrishuang8763 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    You are absolutely right. The GX9 is a very under-rated camera. There are always haters who will always pick on things. If you are a street or travel photographer like me you will love this camera. Incidentally, I also own the GX9 with the 15mm f/1.7 lens. The controls/dials are where they should be.
    It even worked very well with my manual focus Samyang 12mm f/2.0 lens. Try that if you have not. Manual focusing is a breeze on the GX9. Great for low light and astro-photography.

    • @CreativeConnor
      @CreativeConnor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do love the 15mm F1.7 for it with my GH5 when doing some astro, so I'll have to give the GX9 a run and see how it compares! I agree it's a very underrated camera and with the current discounts its a steal 😆

      I just got a GX9 last week; it was the last one at the store, which is appropriate because I seem to be last person to have heard of it. I wasn't sure about focusing an all-manual lens, but was pleasantly surprised to find that I get blue outlines on in-focus elements in my finder. That means my 25mm f/0.95 Speedmaster lens will be a cinch to use in low light scenarios.

    Can fully understand your excitement over the GX9. I still use my GX7 a lot because it has a characteristic that no other M4/3 has. Panasonic did the right thing with the GX9 for that niche as a true improvement from the GX7. Great to see that camera around and being appreciated.

    Thanks for the video! I just bought the GX9, and I love it. I was using a full frame set up for a long time, the photos are great, but the gear is heavy!
    Everyone said go with Sony or Fuji, but I wanted the lightest kit possible. I got the GX9, a Leica 12-60 mm lens, and a Leica 50-200mm lens. The photos are almost as good as with my FF kit, at 1/3 the weight. I am a happy camper. The best camera is the one you are willing to carry!

    these cashback deals are why I have way too many cameras haha. I think you're so right - the naming of this device bombed the launch. I went in thinking it'd be a video-centric camera like the gx8, but the specs just confused me. no mic input... wahhhh??? But for stills, I bet it's brilliant! And I love the smaller form factor.

      Hello there!! I love your videos 😍 Especially the recent photo shoot one 📸👍 I know that a "deal" or "discount" still means you spend money 😅 BUT DAMMIT Panasonic... at that price I couldn't resist! 🤗 If it was my only camera I'd be bummed out about the mic input being missing but because I have the GH5 and the Tascam 60Dmkii I just don't have an issue with it 🙂 There are some great ways around it on a budget too. I love the Instamics and they are made for a situation were your camera doesn't have a mic input 👍 Check them out if you haven't already they are deadly!!😎

    Thanks for another very good video. I started off with the GF1, then the GX7. Bought a second "nos" GF1 i 2018, love the system,
    with all the available lenses. Mostly I use the 20mm lens with a Jupiter 50mm f1,5 from 1951 as a short tele option. I do have

    Just picked up the GX9, absolutely love it. Great little Leica wannabe that I can take with me everywhere. Especially with that 15mm 1.7. I love my Canon cameras, both DSLRs and mirrorless, but they’re huge and heavy and carrying a full kit requires a backpack or roller. The little LUMIX fits in my messenger bag or in a really small sling bag.

    Was in the same boat. Main cam is a gh5 and I wanted something smaller for street. Im loving it paired with the 14mm f2.5, 28mm is my favourite street focal length and with a pancake lens the entire system fits in a jacket pocket. only complaint is the grip ergonomics, however I ordered a thumbs-up thumb grip which has completely changed how I hold it it and certainly improved my experience.

    Looks like a great camera for what you’ve got in mind! I picked up an Olympus PEN-F in like new condition from the previous owner and it seems like both cameras target a similar audience. First time battery drain issue that'd completely drain the battery. The second time it kept having recording issues and the video files kept messing up, no matter what memory card. I've disabled screen touch af and focus and recompose. If i really need to change the focus point, I programmed the Fn1 button to activate D-pad focus. Usually shoot RAW+JPEG to get better colours in post. The metering and video on these cameras is excellent.

      @@CreativeConnor The Oly 45mm is really nice, focuses quick but not suuuuper quick on my GX7. Focus accuracy is around 80-85% to my liking, good enough for casual but I am afraid for using it on critical work. I read online that the Panasonic version has better AF due to the Dept of Defocus technology... The AF could completely be a different story on a GX9 that I guess is super super responsive compared to my old GX7. All that said, is super sharp, optically amazing and really small to be carried all around just in case. The 42.5 1.2 will never have that last benefit

    I've been using the GX80 as my smaller take out & about camera..
    The Summilux 15mm is astounding.
    Been watching the GX9 for months watching the price go up & down on Amazon. And then recently bought the GX9 and kit lens ( it was only £25 more) for £499.
    Can't wait to get the Summilux 15mm on there and start using it.
    ( I like the kit lens for video because of the body & lens double image stabilization.)
    It's in the post to me at time of writing.. 🙂
    I too was tempted with Fuji.
    But like you say, it's a whole other system.
    May switch in future years as I'm seeing image stabilization is on the XT4.

      White balance ( AWB ) was rubbish compared to GX80,, and had noisy images ( long night exposures) compared to GX80.
      Maybe to do with more megapixels on the sensor?
      I returned it.
      Really didn't take to it.
      Daylight images were lovely, sharp, & detailed though.
      But I shoot a lot at night.
      I'll keep GX80 for time being.
      Then will probably be moving to Fuji sometime in the future..
      No rush though, using the GX9 has made me appreciate my GX80 more.
      And there's nothing much that has the same specs for the value.
      Fuji's image quality should be great for photography, but no in body image stabilization isn't something that appeals now I'm used to it.. GX80 does great video too.
      I have my canon SLR, do don't need another system slightly smaller.. it has to be GX80 kind of small..
      May hold on to GX80 for a while. Will miss my Summilux 15mm 1.7 if I ever leave M43

    The problem with the GX8 was that it was much bigger and more expensive than the GX7. I had a GX7 and I did not upgrade for those reasons. Then they came with the GX80 but the view finder didn't swivel like on the GX7 and GX8. In all the reviews of the GX80 they said it would be a great b-roll camera for video types using GH4 or 5. I bought the GX80 and I am so happy! Fab camera. Then the GX9 came out and they did the best thing, a sort of child of its parents the GX8 and GX80. You have the best GX camera! Don't talk about it like it is controversial or no good, the GX9 is an amazing camera. If I could afford to I would upgrade. But one year on from getting my GX80 I am still loving it. By the way don't knock Panasonic kit lenses. I use the 12-32 and it is sharp and a useful range.

    You're absolutely right about the price.. No way GX9 at £800 (so I bought a secondhand GX80, a beautiful little thing, the perfect m43 camera, size/quality mix).
    Then the GX9 price quietly drops, then the cashback in the UK right now, then a new WEX opens with another 10% off, so bought one just yesterday (GX80 sold on eBay, sob sob).
    It feels like the GX80 pro, or GX8 lite, but a super camera, again the perfect size/quality m43 camera. Very first impressions, very impressed. I'd really like to know your further thoughts on using it, and that 15mm lens, which tempts me..

    Totally agree about the GX9. I'm not a huge video guy. My main camera is the G9 - if I'm planning on going out and taking a lot of photos I'll take that. But the rest of the time I always have the GX9 in my day to day bag. It's so small and light I can carry it everywhere. I have the Leica 15mm too but usually I just leave the 12-32mm kit lens on the GX9 - didn't think it would be great but it's surprisingly good. Another big plus for me is the Bluetooth function. Geotagging is important for me and Bluetooth makes that so much more automatic than cameras which only have WiFi, like the G85. I didn't have a small Pansonic body before the GX9 though, so perhaps for me it's not suffering in any comparison to the prior models.

      Hi there Baggas,
      I really interested in your input as to which camera you most enjoy, GX9 or G9?
      I'm a amateur at best, and love to shot street photography, and landscapes... the truth of the matter is the frame is dominated my my kiddos.
      Based on that criteria (still images mixed with fast moving munchkins) which of those cameras would you recommend?
      Oh, I do dabble in video every now and then, but stills is where it at with me.
      Cheers

    • @baggas
      @baggas 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Marco. I am exactly same as you - amateur focussing on kids, landscape, streets, with little video. If you can afford it and don't mind the size, the G9 is still the far superior camera - it focusses a lot faster and is better in low light, weather sealed, better video features etc. But as a cheaper, smaller option, or for an every day carry around, the GX9 is not to be sneezed at.

    • @mvhan911
      @mvhan911 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@baggas that is an interesting view because i am also torn between G9 - GX9 for a very similar content. The weight/size is there so the question is if it is worth for the additional features. I am surprised G9 is better in low light since i thought it is the same sensor.
      Gx9 gets the most positive reviews for its still capability. But it has 1,25xcrop in 4K and no mic in which concerns me to take it instead of G9. Also it is said that G9 has best AF in video.

  • @jackoneil3933
    @jackoneil3933 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Having progressed through the GH1, GH2, GH3, GH4, I found the GX8 was a worthwhile improvement for Stills over the GH4 and was comparable for video to the GH4, and sold the GH4.
    I also love street photography and found the GX8 works very well for that. I have used the GX9 briefly and liked it, but the M43 camera i've got the best results for street photography with, that also does 4K VIdeo close to the GH4 and GX8 is the original LX100. I've found the fast Summilux Zoom on the LX100 rivals what I get from the GX8 with Good primes and Leica Zooms, and with Capture One I can often squeeze a few extra MP of frame size and making use of the LX100's selectable aspect ratio I often end up with the same megapixels I end up with after I crop images from the 20.3MP sensor from the GX8, and I think the colors and tonal quality of the LX100 is often better than the GX8 and GX9. And I spent a lot less for the GX8 Body and LX100 than a new GX9 and ended up with a second 4K video camera.

    The GX series has always been tempting to me, but I tend to wind up going for cameras that have a thicker grip simply because I have larger hands and prefer how they feel. I too have done the whole looking at Fuji as a second camera, but... Yeah, same reasons here too, it's effectively getting a second system. Then again, maybe it's because I'm simply happy with my G85, and parts of me have been second guessing the idea I've had about picking up a G9 to go alongside it...
    I've been rather tempted by that 15mm lens though!

    • @CreativeConnor

      Preach Wulfe (And great to hear from you!!) I love a good grip but haven't found it to hinder me yet.. i think if i was wielding the 35-100mm on it then I might start to feel a bit wanting for a grip (but its €65 for the official) The 15mm is so lovely and I have a wrist strap on the camera to make sure it doesn't slip! 😊I'll be making loads of videos and taking lots of photographs with it in the coming months! So you'll certainly get to see what the combo can do 😎 The G9 is suppose to be marvelous.. but if I were you and happy with the GX85 then wait and see what comes out in the next year from Panasonic. I think the sensor will change soon and megapixel count will go a lot higher with improvements to low light. The 20.1 megapixel that's in the G9 GH5 and GX9 are fantastic but I'm sure we'll see a new sensor soon 🤗 I didn't consider the GX9 until that price drop of 45% off the bodies retail price 😍

      I look forward to seeing what you do with the GX9!
      As for the G9, GH5, or... "insert shiny new unannounced camera here" (because there's always a new one on the horizon, or when you're looking to buy/upgrade, etc), I'm looking somewhat at the GH5 after thinking a bit more... I suspect it's the video capabilities as well as the native pre-amp you can get, but I'm going to wait and see on two things... First, how the rumoured "new and shiny" Olympus camera turns out (supposed to be announced/teased at Photokina), and secondly, I feel additional lenses would provide more tools to work with, whereas a new body just gives me a few more features and the newer sensor. ^_^;;;

    I had many FF cameras that I sold for several reasons, even a Sony A7RIII and currently I just have a GX8 with 2 lenses : the 25 F/1.4 for street photographie and the 75 F/1.8 manly for portraits. And I'll probably complete it with the 12-40 for travels. I have no reason to change for the GX9. Honestly, I don't regret my choice. FF were ideal to massage my ego. They delivered great pictures too, because I had the best lenses. But they were big, expensive and heavy.
    But once you take distance with marketing injunctions and overcome ego's issues, M4/3 is probably the best choice you can do. If I had to change today, I won't buy a Nikon Z or a Canon R, but a G9.

    Thanks for the video, I watched a lot of reviews and bought the gx9. It's great, little camera, so many options (not limited like Olympus did with e-m10 mk3).
    I was afraid that the EVF would not be good. I had not any comparision, because I was moving from ole Olympus DLSR - e520. But I think it's good and I don't need nothing more or bigger in such small camera. It's still about 30% bigger than viewfinder in e-520, even in 4/3 mode. I don't see any "rainbow effect" - I know it's individual, but I don't see anything so it's great for me.
    I prefer 3/2 ratio so I can choose it and it's even bigger, while RAW files are still saved in original 4/3.
    It's a perfect camera for travels (no extreme trips, I have never needed a water seal, so it's not an issue for me).
    Another thing - it looks like a normal "point and shoot" camera, nobody is staring at me.
    All those bad reviews about not having tiltable screen and microphone input - people haven't read it's made for travel and city photography not for video bloggers.

      I just use kit lens 12-60 - it's very good as a kit lens, AFAIK better than Olympus 14-42, and 24 eqiv. makes a difference. And my plan is to get small, wide, fixed lens.
      My opinion is: people have forgotten that they are the ones who take the pictures, not the cameras. We are amateurs and the camera should provide a comfortable way to take photos. We took nice photos with 2 megapixel cameras, so with current technology, it doesn't matter whether the iso3200 will have a little more noise or less.

Ideally want dont want to keep manually change the settings but I found the iA profile make some dark areas too dark. For night time street view with street lights I was using F3.5/SS25/ISO 400-1600. Thanks for the vid, but at a decisive moment for me, GH5 (that you are filming on) and Fuji were on my shopping list. The very reason I left the GH5 behind was your video. Unable to keep simple focus from a tripod, to a target barely moving. Before I get ugly responses, the footage that is in focus is brilliantly sharp and clear. This gives me doubts on all of the Panasonic range for video (my main use). Maybe next system change, things will have improved. Just an opinion. :) Happy snapping.

      Richard Hallford, I totally agree about the terrible auto focus on Panasonic cameras. It simply destroys any video period. Even more so with 4k. I own a gx85 and a g7. I turned off video AF from day one and only use the touch to focus then lock technique. This works very well. Since he was doing a talking head video, there is absolutely no excuse for being lazy using AF in this situation. It takes very little effort to use touch to focus. I shoot 4k many hours a week and just love these cameras, especially for the unlimited 4k video recording time without overheating, especially on unmanned tripods! I will have these cameras for a long time to come. No other camera can do this quality of video at this price point. One thing that concerns me is the new coming full frame Panasonic cameras with the auto focus. It is still only contrast detect!! No phase detect!! That is such a miss for Panasonic. They had their chance to take the market and blew it big time. I just don't understand their thinking. For video, these cameras are DOA. They are only good for photos. They fall short again with video. The winner is still the A7III by a long shot. But I don't have the money for the Sony and also it still has the artificial 30 minute video egg timer limit so it won't work for my shooting style for long live events on unmanned tripods from different angles.

    I bought the GF1 (12MP) the week it became available (2009, I think). Totally fell in love with it. Bought a couple lenses and I was off to the races. The first true successor to the GF1 was the GX1 (16MP). So I bought that one (2011). I loved that one even more. I bought some more lenses. Then came a long parade of would be successors, but no true ones. I didn't see any reason to upgrade from a 16MP to a 16MP, and the GX8 was too large. I wanted a camera like the GF1 or GX1 (okay, so I knew it wouldn't be as small and light as the GX1, not if I wanted in body stabilization-but that GX8 is massive (to me). So I waited. Then came the GX9. What a beauty! The image quality is better than the GX1 (no filter on the GX9, and it has in-body stabilization), and the shutter doesn't go off like a gunshot, like on the GX1. I know the GX9 will win me over . . . but . . . well . . . I've used a few cameras through the years, and only two have made it into my personal hall of fame: my Mamiya M645 1000S, and my Lumix GX1.

    My main camera is a sizable and weighty Nikon FF DSLR with equally sizeable and weighty lenses. I am planning on buying a small, easy to carry and discrete (for the Street ) camera that I can carry with me most of the time in a belt pouch. I had a look at the GX9 and The LX100ii fixed zoom lens compact in Bermingham's this morning. Now I'm torn between the two. In order to get the portability I require, I'd have to pair the GX9 with the 12-32 kit lens, which is tiny. It is, by all accounts, a very decent lens for what it is but it has a much slower max aperture vs the lens on the LX100ii and in FF terms has almost 10mm less reach.on the long end. On the other hand, the GX9 has 3mp more resolution (even though they share the same sensor), an articulating screen and I prefer the feel of it's slightly larger form factor in my hand. There is also the fact that the GX9 has self sensor cleaning and, if needs be, you can take the lens off and clean it manually. The fixed zoom lens cameras tend to suck in dust over time and getting the sensor cleaned is complicated and therefore expensive. Decisions, Decisions! I both love and hate buying a new camera!

      Hey Connor no problem. Well I have an assorted bunch of cameras. I have the GX7 which is still great and a few primes which all fit in a tiny bag and I use for travel or days out. Before that I had the GF1 which was a revelation to me and made me sell my Canon DSLR gear. I've also got some Fuji and Sony gear which have their place. I was thinking of replacing the GX7 with the GX9 but I'm not sure. I like the idea of the much softer shutter and IBIS but TBH the GX7 is still pretty awesome and I have too much gear as it is lol.

    Should have looked in to the Olympus O-MD E-M10 mark ii or mark iii if you want 4k. It's the same size but does an amazing job at photos. I've always felt that Olympus did a little better in the photography side and Panasonic dominated the video side.

    I just got my gx9 with the tiny kit lens in the post today, it is charging right now... and have the 15mm and the 14-140mm on the way in the post, so I am jumping into the m4/3 system (does the lens hood you have on, come with the 15 mm? or is it bought for itself?). I hope I will love it - I was looking for small/portability in a mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera with touch/tilt screen, wifi, stabilisation and of course good quality pictures and think gx9 fits the bill. I got soo tired of the "it is not an upgrade to gx8" which filled videos and blogs - when I just wanted to hear about the gx9 so I could deside if it was for me. Even if people say it is small - coming from a Lumix lx5 - it fells big/heavy :). And you should put an affiliate link for those batteries - because maybe I will need to get an ekstra battery ;)

    Definitely think it caused frustration and confusion not being upgrade from gx8. However street photography as a form of photography is quite hand in glove with the whole scene fuji tapped into and have made their own. Fuji is great but it's also hip to have one. This camera or any other lumix aimed at street would sell better with a different look (more retro) slicker marketing etc. If they don't have something special desirable which people get loyal about they are purely judged on the specs. Shame as in many ways this is great and likely better than fuji x100f in some areas but it doesn't have a soul. Just as a tool though it's a bargain.

    • @CreativeConnor
      @CreativeConnor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there Charlie! Welcome 😎 I agree with you that Fuji just got into that street space and set up shop.. extremely successfully (People go on and on about Leica for street but the Fujis are stellar for the price.. but those primes are expensive) 🤗 It's all about finding and exploiting that niche! I've played with the xt2 and it was cool but just didn't do it for me! As a bargain & Bcam for my studio set up the GX9 is a steal for the price I got it 😍 I've also been out walking the streets of Dublin and taking candid shots and have to say I love it! In terms of injecting some soul I'll be adding the JB walnut wooden grip and base to the camera to give it a little something something when I'm out with it 🙂 There's no perfect camera, there's just the camera you have and your desire to get the most out of it 📸 Thanks for the comment Charlie 👍

    I have a GX7 with the kit 14-42, a 45-150 which I never use and the Samyang 8mm fisheye and 12mm wide angle (love both of these lenses).
    I'm also tempted to upgrade to the GX9 and get the 15mm f1.7 like you. I've shot some pleasing landscapes on the gx7 as well as street.
    Since I also have a Nikon D7200 (great machine) I yearn to go full frame Nikon, but the m4/3's have a major advantage (as you know) and that is weight. Think I'll let the Hare sit on this one until my photography justifies an upgrade. I think you made a wise decision - sorry for going on....

      One question: can you figure out a way to assign a useful function to the rear control wheel when in A or S mode? Well done video. Get well fast. I think the naming created a lot of confusion and dissatisfaction. It's the GX7iii in Japan. Ironically, when the GX8 was released there were a lot of complaints about it being too big, not having a flip out screen, and essentially not being a true successor to the GX7. For folks looking for a true GX8 successor with many of the G9 features in a rangefinder style body, the GX9 was a huge fail. It's really in the GX7, GX80/85, lineage. As noted in the video, it's not all things for all people. But if viewed as a street/travel type camera, it's really good.

      Pretty much all m43. Smaller bodies and lenses are a much better fit for my needs which includes things like hiking, travel, street. I've mostly used Olympus bodies. Lenses like the f/1.2 pro primes have little interest for me. for most of what I don I much prefer lenses like the 15mm f/1.7, 45 f/1.8, etc. I knew the GX9 was basically a modest upgrade of the GX80/85 with the 20mp sensor. I like it very much, but I also knew what it wasn't.

    Hi Connor, I agree the GX9 at its current £450 price body only is remarkable. Problem is as a 2nd hand buyer Im finding the residial prices are very high at £385 in excellent condition MPB so 85% of new price. I really want to but this but refuse to buy new and wont pay more than 75% of new price when purchasing 2nd hand ... perhaps crazy logic because if they were selling it at a perfectly reasonably £550 new I would prob be v happy with £385 2nd hand (70%) ... my mind works in strange ways sometimes :-)) Rich

    Did you use/try an external flash too? Can one use that in burst mode? I'm a m43 Olympus/Panasonic user since 2012(before decades Canon gear). I bought a new GX8 when it came out. Dude you're Timing is impeccable, I'm in the market for a camera. So I really need your help mate. I've been working with a DP in the industry for like 2-3 years (India) and I'm starting out my own gig now. so I'm planning to get the GH5 for video. I'm planning to use it for professional and casual vlogs. For professionals use, il use the manual focus, ONLY manual. On a curious note, how's the tweak for the autofocus in GH5? I will need it at some point, like in casual run and gun vlogging, say cycling and vlogging. I don't want it to pulse, which I did notice in this and the previous video about MFT's which I loved btw, that made me subscribe to your channel. MFT's are ♥️ when you're an indie who's venturing out. Just wanted ask you about the AF hack others talk about. I love Panasonic and Fuji, bloody genius engineers there.

    • @CreativeConnor
      @CreativeConnor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! You can't go wrong with the GH5! But if you're concerned about the AF hunting during vlogs then it might struggle! I use to care about it when the camera first release but in time I've stopped worrying and just go for it in a studio environment (a good light helps immensely)! The Canon m50 is cheap enough with a lens and has dual pixel AF im 1080p if you want something that's going to be great for vlogging? I don't vlog so much out and about but if I was using the GH5 id leave it on manual focus and set the fstop to 4-5.6 and you'll be in focus. The shallow depth of field might be less but at your face will be sharp! 😁 Grab the GH5 and start working and hussling and see where it takes you 😎😎 any other questions? 🙂🤘

      Connor Dunne . Dude I see a lot of YT'ers going bonkers about DoF, bokeh and noise artefacts crap which is absolutely baseless in unfair conditions (read : testing, apparently 🤦🏻‍♂️) No one really understands the post production part of videography and are swaying buyers by not mentioning it. This is a pocket beast, mount the Fujinon MK with MFT mount and an external recorder and audio blah blah blah, you have a cinematic monster at less than $10k. IL use my old war horse (70d) for talking head vlogs. GH5 when set properly can let you free. I'm actually returning the camera to the rental store as I type this, had it for three days only to find out the firmware wasn't updated. I updated it after getting their permission, the focus when set right wasn't hunting for me. Noise levels are managed in post. The losers dissing on the gh5 can really sodoff.
      Nope no more questions, I was happy to find you on YT, subbed, notifs on. Wish you talk more about filmmaking, cinematography et al. A lot of stuff needs to be debunked, real time work involves more than a camera, infact it's the least of my priority. I'll start vlogging after I get pass my physio. You take care mate. Cheers.
