Does an e-m10 ii count as tiny? I love it though. I have been thinking about something even smaller but i have a hard time using the lcd's on my cameras in general. You seem to love using cameras without viewfinders. I would love to hear your thoughts on the subject of no viewfinder. Any tips?
@@theamateurbunch5006 fun little thing! I gave mine to my cousins girl who turns 8 yrs old this saturday! I gave my cousin her D7200 back in 2018 when I upgraded to 5mk ii. using D7000 for photography and an old trusty GH4 for video!
@@theamateurbunch5006 The E-M10 ii 📷 definitely counts, especially with the newest M43 cameras being large enough for the LCD to serve as a carrier flight deck! 😊 And, of course, it has a pop-up flash. 📸
I picked the g100 up for a song. I already have lots mft lenses (long time g95 user) but the 20mm f1.7 is a perfect match. Also, it's just plain FUN to use!
@@ferdinandbardamu3945 Not in my opinion. Phones are still using tiny sensors which produce photos with very limited dynamic range. The better ones use some advanced computational tech to improve the image quality, and they are fine if you are only going to view them on a phone or social media page. A good friend claims his new iPhone takes "excellent" photos and sent me a sunset photo (nicely composed) as proof. Well, as soon as you enlarge it to 100% *all* the detail goes away and it looked like a watercolor painting. Having said all this, if a phone is all you have at the movement then it's the "best camera". But even these older, small, MFT cameras will take a variety of excellent lenses from primes to compact zooms which all give vastly better image quality than the simple lenses in smart phones. Again - shoot what you have.
@@ferdinandbardamu3945 Readiness of use is important. In my case, fumbling around getting the phone out, stabbing an app, it taking vital seconds to start and be ready to go, the moment has passed, the shot has gone.
@@ferdinandbardamu3945 I guess it's something everyone should answer to themselves. Personally, no. Even if we skip IQ. Unless you have a good phone and take your time to learn some more "manual" apps--with a phone you lose a lot of control over your image. So, carrying a small oly with 17mm lens or ricoh gr is well worth it (for me) in terms of control and ergonomics.
Well, after watching a series of your videos and of a few of your contemporaries in the TH-cam world, I just purchased my first Lumix GF3. Can’t wait to take some pictures. Thank you for the incredible content.
Instead of watching TV on my lunch break I started going out for a walk with my camera. Weather permitting of course. Been getting more practice and more opportunities to capture cool stuff. Plus I’m going healthier by walking instead on sitting on my butt watching TV and eating Cheetos for an hour.
So many good points Emily. It’s not always about the gear. We actually need to use it …. with reckless abandon! My current favourite tiny camera is the G100.
My every day is the GX85 (Gx80) IBIS and view finder included with a flip screen. Perfect for me and I use the 12-32 lens, set it at 18mm and it’s a one handed camera.
I recently got the Pen E-PL7 as my EDC after watching a number of your videos, and it’s an absolute delight to use! Thanks again for all your awesome videos!
Loved this video. I also never wanted to carry my "work" camera (sorry S5) but I am definitely willing to chuck my EDC in a little hip pouch. It's exactly why I bought a GX85 and 20mm f1.7 for an EDC. I wanted both front and rear control dials and opted for IBIS so I can also grab snippets of everyday life and I also don't edit--just dump into a timeline and output weekly--much like having the old VHS cams back in the day. I find that I'm more intentional with unloading my memory card and picking the good pics to share. I wanted to fill my instagram feed with a specific portrait look that I can get with this combo for documenting my everyday family life to share with friends and family. I'm tired of just having iphone photos & videos that I never look back on!
I just bought an EM10mk2 and im planning to pair it with a 14mm 2.5 as a compact edc. I choose the olympus due to the two wheels of exposure. Its a little bit thicker than the lumix body but i have ibis too!
I have an Olympus mini e-pm1 for every day carry with a 7artisans 18mm f:6,3 and I shoot constantly with it everyday. It’s a really great point and shoot.
My favorite tiny camera was the Olympus E-PM1. I used it every day coupled with the also tiny Panasonic 14mm F2.5 till the image stabilization has stopped working. I used it from 2012 till 2024, almost every day!!! Absolute great color and never bothered me her 12 Mpixels only!!! I also use the Panasonic GX800 another extraordinary great camera with manual lenses!! You should check the extraordinary clean image at high ISO, of course coupled with a good Raw convertor!!! A new Panasonic very affordable camera with a 25Mpixels sensor will be a great success, I think!!! But these are only my hopes, I am not 100% sure!! But keep promoting this standard for the benefit of the true photographers community!!!!
I love the rant, first time I heard it I was hoping it was done in one take. But even then if it came off the top of your head and you hadn't written, it was brilliant and inspiring.
Could you do a video on battery life of these older cameras and where you might find replacement / after market batteries? Would think this a vital topic when talking about the long-term care of your cameras.
I've a G9II and an OM1 as main cameras but still use GF3 and 6 with pancakes as daily cameras, and still love them. When I plan to travel very light, I take the GF6 + 12-40 (from Xiaymi) + Pana 45-175 + 2 batteries, fits in a very small bag, In the pas I took the zuiko 14-150 but I don't like this lens. I bought a brand new, still boxed GF3 + the 14-42 pancake, in a special white edition and paid 45€ for all on a flea market.
My favourite tiny cameras from my collection are , the GX8, GX1 and Full Spectrum Infra Red converted GF1, LX100, Olympus E-M5 and Pen -F also my Pentax Q and now a Leica TL2.
@MicroFourNerds, I've been into photography all my life, and to this day, I still think the best photo's i've ever taken were with my phone. But, thanks to you I bought my first dedicated camera, the GF7, mainly due to two reasons. 1: Interchangable lenses 2: Natural background blurr And now I'm totally hooked and spending more money than i should (thank you for that as well i guess xD )
Following one of your reviews I purchased a GM1 and WOW - love the dinky little camera and great results. (See what impact you have as an 'influencer'). I am amazed at the results of the GM1 and it now sits alongside by LX100ii an GX9. This means my OM1 and EM5iii are having a rest.
Thanx Emily for this video. My favorite cameras, not just cheap everyday cameras, are the GX85 &. 9. I lean more towards the nine for a silly reason. I love the EC on the top plate. I mostly shoot street photography using aperture priority and change my exposure using the EC. I love the image output. I love IBIS. I love the tilting screen. The L monochrome D B&W jpeg is by far my favorite B&W. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I have the GF6 for taking to football matches and just chucking in the rucksack. I love the cases you can get that just attach to the tripod mount - the quality (even in low light) is pretty decent too if you get used to the settings and use an OIS lumix lens. The battery life is incredible though!
I adore my Panny TZ90 as my everyday carry. My goto choice since the TZ40. I have been tempted by the G ranges you've shown just to play with other lenses. Great video, lass.
This is such great advice - the everyday carry, not worrying about damage to expensive gear. I carry my Oly em5 mkiii plus 17mm f1.8 with me everyday. I have limited time for dedicated photography time - work plus 3 kids under 10. I often get off transit a bit early to walk and take photos and sometimes at lunch or the end of the day. I want to add that having a weekly or monthly photo project (like yours) is also so helpful to improving photography. I will look for the GF7 as it might be good for sneaking it into facilities that often don't allow cameras. Thanks!
Lovely video! On my last trip to London I thrifted a cute little Lumix LX7 and it has been my everyday carry since then, so I 100% get what you’re saying in this video!
That LX7 is a hidden gem. During my family vacation this summer, I used it more than my Canon 700D and got some lovely photos. Bottom line: I traded my Canon gear for an Olympus E-M5 mk2 based compact setup. And the LX7 is in my bag almost every day.
The quintessence of your philosophical discourse ist the reason how I found my way to your chancel. I started this year with shooting daily on my way with my cheap smartphone - remember the best camera is that you have with you. It works having a lot of good moments in the present moment and for improving my photographic view - but now it's time to find something practical above this crappy smartphone stuff.
For 4 years now I have carried a camera every time I go out, eosm Lumix g100, Olympus Pen and the list goes on. It does get your mind tuned better for photography and the big outings with the DSLR are a lot easier if you do EDC
I get so excited when you talk about tiny cameras, Emily! ❤ I am always on the hunt but my GM5 coupled with my GX9 make me so happy 😁. I love a good deal so I hunt Lumix cameras in my free time. Thank you for covering the GF style. I wasn’t as familiar. As an aside, I’m way more apt to take out my M43 cameras instead of my Fuji cameras. In that sense the Lumix and Olympus cameras feel more robust. Lastly, I follow Roman as well and agree that photography on a daily basis helps me stay in the moment. Thanks!
Not strictly "every day carry" I suppose, but I always have a kit in the car which I can grab: Olympus e-pl6 with vf-2 evf with three lenses: Panny 14-42 ii (mounted), 35-100, and Oly 25 1.8. Perfectly capable of great photos if an unexpected moment arises. I love the little Oly pen, even if it is not a camera that I would likely take on a planned outing.
Very good video on the value of always having a proper camera with you and using it to practice your photography every day. I have a collection of various Olympus PEN cameras which make great small cameras even today. But I do favor the newer tech, so my EDC camera is a PEN E-P7 with the OM System 12-45mm f4 PRO lens. I can get some really great shots with that setup and it fits into a very small bag. Some days I mount a Lumix 20mm f1.7 pancake lens and then it all fits into a pocket.
Lots of yes! yes! yes! to the points you make in this video Emily. Cheap cameras still take great photos, if you point them at great photos! And for that you need to carry them, everyday, just like you say...👍
Great video. I've tried carrying various cameras every day and have come to the same conclusion as you - it needs to be cheap, already a bit scratched and I can't be worried about it breaking otherwise I won't carry it everywhere. Currently carrying my Olympus E-M5ii and the 25mm 1.8 with me everywhere and am so much happier and more productive than when I had any Fuji, Sony or Leica cameras that I was worried about.
I agree with your thoughts on Photography. I have a camera with me all the time and I read somewhere someone stating that not having a camera with me is a lost opportunity. I agree with that. As I am a visual artist and painter as well as a photographer I am always observing my surroundings. I find it enjoyable and I analyse the colours to work out how I will mix them to paint something. I enjoy all the aspects that make visual life absorbing, like shapes, lines colours, tone , stories to be told, etc and the big one composition.
I've been following your videos for a while and loving the tiny camera series. I just received my gm1 with 12-32mm kit lenses and I might already be addicted 😆. I'm so glad you posted this because I wanted another but couldn't justify gm prices again so instead I just bought a GF7 (in pink 💖) for 160 USD, can't wait to try it out!!
I had a GF1 then a (white)GF3 (twice! I sold it, then bought another coz I missed it!). Nowadays I use the GX80 and a TZ100(20MP, 1 inch sensor, fixed zoom). I do love my Olympus EM1 but the small Lumix cameras are what MFT started out as, quality in a small size. They are ideal for street work.
Fantastic video advocating the benefits of a "being present" lifestyle more than anything. I've got more gear and big lenses than i know what to do with but hardly used them outside "studio days". Then I picked up a Canon M6 mark ii. I'm utterly obsessed with this thing. I used to be headphones in, shut out the world, but now it's camera out everyday. My walks always take a bit longer lol, but it's the definition of stop and smell the roses. Incredible for my sense of peace and mental health. Getting better at photos happens as a natural consequence of just wanting to capture your fascination at the world. Thank you
Same here, I love my M6Mk2, up until my daughter decided to "borrow" it when she went off to school. I recently picked up a Canon M200 for a good price, and coupling that with the 22mm f2 pancake gives me a decent pocketable EDC.

My bag combo is an E-PL8 with the 14-42 mm pancake. I just love everything about it.
Also consider the Olympus E-PL series. The E-PL8 was the last in the line that will take and external EVF. 3-axis IBIS, solid metal construction and still cheaper than the Lumix GX/GM series.
Couldn’t agree with you more - the everyday carry camera is THE way to develop your photographic eye while integrating it into your life. My weapon of choice is the Lumix LX-7 - taken everywhere, but particularly on dog walks. Just try composing a nice street scene, when your pooch is doing its best to drag you down the road. If nothing else, you’ll develop a Thor-like non camera arm!
Emily, I have the TG-6 specifically for snorkeling and "shallow" diving. I have a question: Which Olympus is the red one @ bottom right @ 2:48 on your video? Thx!! So to answer your question, I also use the TG-6 if I go on a short flight somewhere and don't want to lug my OM-1. Until a week ago, I kept it attached to a tiny retractable 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6EZ, fitting snuggly in half of an Olympus classic leather Postman's pouch together with a 12-100mm 1:4 IS PRO next to it, which is not light or small but a wonderful lens I love. Not a big case but just one too many to have to deal with the TSA stripping us down as if terrorists even when taking the smallest puddle jumper!! The TG-6 size, accessories and all, is a fraction of all that to carry! I realized not too long ago, that it was shameful not to take my OM-1 with me on trips like that, so when I mentioned the problem to my OM rep store, they suggested the new 14-150mm 1:4-5.6 II ED MSC which has the zoom capabilities of both lenses!!! So I got a smaller Olympus Pouch that barely fits camera and connected lens and now I am set without an excuse to leave it behind next time I go anywhere!! As irony would have it, I then went and bought the new 150-600 mammoth telephoto lens that needs its own suitcase!!! It's not going on a plane with me of course! I like your idea of having a smaller camera like the Lumix S9, but moving to a different platform even a MFT's one means learning to work a whole new camera and to tell you the truth, I am overwhelmed with the OM-1 intricacies as it is!! Though I love my camera, I do not live and breathe it like you do and I still feel unfamiliar to a lot of its workings. The day before, I was taking pictures of the Moon in 1st Q. phase w. OM-1 & the mammoth zoom and some setting would just not let me shoot a picture!! I have no idea what I did, I think I had it set it to Program and it refused to shoot! Luckily, the Moon is no a Puffin and pretty much stayed in place till I just switched to Manual on the dial and managed to get a few good shots (with a tripod). Hope all this didn't drive you nuts!!
Very good discussion. My latest everyday carry is a silver Olympus E-P2, usually with the Panasonic 20mm 1.7 lens and a cheap 35mm optical viewfinder for snapshot framing. It feels great in the hand, controls are simple and second-nature to me by now, and image quality is still very good. I even get compliments on how nice it looks.
I always enjoy your perspective. I'm disappointed with myself that I've spent as much on equipment as I have and don't feel comfortable with any of it being EDC. I don't have a whole lot and have tried to focus on creating rather than buying but something actually pocketable would help me a lot. Great vid/discussion as always. 👍🏼
I have a GM1, G100, Pentax Q7, GX9, and... a GM5 arriving today. All of this is because of you! hahaha I think my favorite has been the GM1. I haven't had the GX9 for very long but I'm beginning to like that a lot and really excited to get the GM5 today. Thank you for the video. Really enjoyed watching it!
I got the Oly PEN E-PM2. Its so lovely. So lovely. A red one. And mostly I 😂 use it with the 8-25pro lens. But now I also use my PEN-EE. A bit slower in usage, but its fun too.
@@MicroFourNerdsthe other thing apart from a smartphone that’s easy to carry and weather sealed to boot is a GoPro. How do we as Team Emily feel about a Hero 12 as an every day carry?
I love that MFT offers all these small and fun affordable options. Although I use a Olympus Pen E-PL8 for my "walkaround" camera, I'm really drawn to the character of the small Lumix cameras as well.
I usually shoot with Nikon, FF and APSC, but I couldn't possibly carry even an assortment of my gear everywhere. So I got an old Canon G12 (70€) because it fits in a pocket of my coat. The sensor is tiny even compared to MFT with "only" 10 MP, but boy, is it fun. My setting for spontaneous shooting are Auto-ISO and "P", and I don't mind if some think that's unprofessional -- I am happy to be an amateur, and for "serious" work I still have the Nikons.
It's funny you touch on this subject today. The other day - when I was out and about on a photo walk with my E-M5 III I was thinking about adding a cheap daily driver of sorts to the collection, for just this sort of thing. Toss it in my every day (work) backback to wherever and see what opportunities present themselfs. Initially been eyeballing a few Oly PEN camera's on MPB, but will look into the Lumix camera's as well.
In terms of size and image quality the olympus ones are fantastic too... I think the menus have shown their age a lot more on the olympus side in my opinion. So complex!
@@MicroFourNerds I Pulled the trigger on an Oly E-PL8 for around €250,- through MPB just now. My first hand experience with the E-M10 III, E-M5 III and more recently E-M1 III, there's no doubt my mind the specs/quality is there (even if this is a bit older). I'm thinking this generation of PEN camera's is basically E-M10 II internals in a different enclosure, and slightly stripped down software layer (compared to the OMD E-M models) From what's I've read, it's has solid build quality, can take a bit of a beating no problemen. As for menu's, you're not wrong. I hope my first hand experience with aforementioned OMD E-M camera's counts for something in that regard. While it certainly was a bit of chore to set these up to my liking, I hardly go into the menu's anymore once everything was setup to my liking.
I’m full in on MFT but when it comes to every day carry camera I picked up a Samsung NX300 with the compact power zoom. Has a tilty screen, wifi, priority modes. It’s still in great condition but it’s like you said, having this affordable option to throw into my bag just is a lot more fun than bringing my expensive gear on say work trips or trying to shoot it all with my Pixel 8 pro.
I used to have a Nikon 1 which was my hand bag camera- worth checking out as they are inter changable lens cameras although not as small as the ones you mention. My full frame camera comes out a lot, but I’ve invested in a phone with a good camera and that is my every day carry 😊. Some thing in pink or blue does appeal though……
Beautiful viewpoint. Subscribed. Im a canon shooter, but i do own a Lumix FZ-80 superzoom, which is actually the camera that got me back into photography after a decade long absence... And i have a Sony NEX-5 that is probably the closest thing i have to an everyday carry. I need a smaller lense for it but i really love it and it's odd nature. Ive been eyeing up micro four thirds for a long time though. This video is a great reminder of why i love photography so much and i need to remember to carry my camera everyday
Awesome video! It was this very thought that made me get my first camera. I was tired of trying to take ok photos with my phone. I still don't have a proper pocketable camera, but I try to carry my x100v whenever I can.
Excellent video and subject as usual! I've been hunting for a GM5 for a while now... really difficult to find with English menu and for a reasonable price... ;) On a side note: has anyone ever mentioned that you have a striking resemblance to the Mona Lisa? I think it could be super fun to recreate the painting as a photoshoot... ;)
I fully agree having an everyday carry camera is a good thing, especially these days, when the running cost is next to nothing. In film days I always had a small-ish camera with me and the Olympus XA series was the best to pack in my pocket. Film costs meant I was still fairly discerning about shooting with some care, though.
Y, you are right, those smaller Panasonics are probably the best value out there in the used market and they do a pretty good job. I've been running a GX800 for a while now, initially just picked it up as a backup body for travelling. I find I rarely head out without it, even if packing a more serious camera. It so small and light with the 12-32 pancake I can just keep specialised glass on the main body and do all the general stuff with the smaller camera, only having to faff with the big one when it's needed. Less mucking about with lens changes etc.
It was a great rant. I think my solution will be to get a pancake lens for my Fujifilm XE1 - to make it pocketable. But I can really see the benefit of an even smaller camera still for all the reasons you mentioned.
GF7 - yes, dials would be nicer, but I've also gotten used to "the wheel of doom" lol. Auto - using the wheel for exposure compensation is very easy. I've set up the FN1 button on the left for ISO (again with wheel). I carry two of these, battered but fully functional, one with Pana 20mm pancake, other with the 35-100 -- together they fit in a tiny camera bag (cm 18x12x8 / 7"x5"X3")
Enjoyed…I actually think you could have added the g100 here as well. It would be on the larger end, but still small (smaller I believe than the gx9) albeit a different style…but newer features and used quite inexpensive.
I agree with your philosophy. Even if smartphones are able of producing good pictures having a small camera with a pancake is a different experience. Thanks for this video and the nice pictures.
My EDC is a GF7 with a tiny lens. Lives in my sling bag and with me every day and have gotten some great shots, some terrible shots, but it has been fun regardless.
I used to carry around my X100 around for EDC, but really even if that was the original one, I felt that it was too much money to carry around that could be broken / stolen / damaged at any moments notice. So I searched for a nice feeling (preferebly metal) camera that doesn't have completely poo image quality, a decent versatility (zoom or not) and a cheap cheap price so that I could carry it around without the fear of losing a substantial part of my savings alongside my backpack. I ended up with a Lumix LX5, which I bought from MPB for 110€. MPB messed up, and they left a battery in a camera AND the charger, so I got a spare for free ! So far no issues, of course it suffers in lower light, but that's for EDC stuff in day time, I honestly don't care that much. I'm not in love with the camera, it's versatile enough so that it doesn't leave me wishing for more for an EDC, and I think that's exactly where EDC cameras should be : if you love them too much you'll end up dissapointed if you break / lose them whereas if they are cheap and you don't care too much about them, as long as they get the job done anything could happen and you'd still be decenty happy. Works great so far for me ! (doesn't prevent me from taking my X100S to carry sometimes)
I fully agree on the point of having a small camera system that you can change lenses with as a daily carry. I understand that many people who buy a Fuji X100 or Ricoh GR pay that premium because they want that "challenge" of having one focal length but you could just buy one of the smaller Fuji mirrorless cameras and a pancake lens (Or a camera like you mentioned in the video) and have it still come out to cheaper then a X100 or Ricoh GR. Then you can either shoot it forever at one focal length and have it be a very similar experience for half or less the price; or you can avoid buyer's remorse if you find out that a fixed focal length of 28mm on an APS-C sensor is not a focal length you really use that often and try something different.
Also the higher end 1" sensor pocket zooms (Such as the Panasonic ZS100 which is my daily carry) are a good choice for daily carries too, and I think they very much get overlooked and overshadowed as the only "Zoom" pocket cameras people tend to gravitate towards are often old Digicams with the CCD sensors. Which have their charm... but for a slightly higher end and more responsive goes everywhere does everything camera from Landscapes, Street to even some casual Wildlife photography, I have yet to find a better camera for all of that in one package then the Panasonic ZS100 which is my Daily Carry.
Oooh, me home town. Nice! I love my cheap carries: A Ricoh GRDIII, all the Pentax Q series, a Pentax MX-1, a Mk I Sony RX-100, and most recently an Olympus E-PM2. None of them cost me over 20,000 yen (about $150) on Amazon Japan, and some, like the Ricoh cost me less than fifty quid.
My all-time favourite cheap camera is a taped up Olympus film camera with a cheap role of B&W film, but a close runner up is my Panasonic GX800 (very similar to the GF7, I think). I wrapped it in a rubber skin so I can throw in a bag without a worry and mostly pair it with the 14mm, or 20mm (or the cheaper 12-32mm if I go to a bar;)) I only shoot JPEG and mostly B&W. I do HATE that little plastic wheel though. Really does bug me how crap it is, so might change for a GM5
Hi there. I have watched so many of your videos the last couple of weeks. Absolutely love them. I’m a 53 yr old newbie, haven’t even purchased a camera or lens yet. I have had cameras in the past and never used h to em due to their size and I simply couldn’t be bothered to lug it all around. I’m wanting exactly what you are talking about here. Something small and something that I can grow with as I learn. I have seen the GX80 and GX9 along with the GM1 and wondering which one of those you would plump for if it was your money you were spending. I will continue to watch the videos as they come in, thick and fast hopefully. Thanks. Neil.
Hi Neil! If you'd prefer a more comfortable grip, but still a small form factor, I'd go for the gx9 or the gx80. Both have a few more bells and whistles compared to the ones in this video, like in camera stabilisation and a view finder. If you value something super small, you can't get much more compact than the GM1 😁
@@MicroFourNerds thank you for your reply. I think I’m going to go for the GX9. Seems to give me lots of bang for the buck. Now I just need to learn how to take photos. 😂
@@neilprofitt1381 Good choice Neil. Any of Emily’s choices would work fine. I voted with my wallet and own both the GX85(80) and 9. Certainly more chunky than the bodies she mentioned. The GX80 & 9 have the bellls and whistles I want. These bodies have become more expensive over the last few years. I want the IBIS and EVF. Hope you love the camera you buy. You can’t go wrong with a small LUMIX body. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I have an Olympus E-P5 or E-PL8 with a 25mm f2 TTart or Pana 20mm f1.7 lens that I take everywhere. Some of my best images that have won me clients were taken with the E-PL8 and a 25mm f2 TTart, 20mm f1.7, or 45mm f1.8.
Last year I bought a used GF7 with a 12-32mm lens for €250. I use it with the 14mm 2.5 or with the tiny 12-23 zoom. I like that the GF7 even has a (limited) panoramic mode. Wish I could reconfigure the thumbwheel to scroll through images instead of zooming.
Im looking for a wee carry. Currently my glove compartment camera is an original em1 with the Pana 14-42 pancake. Not tiny, but small enough with great firmware updates. A bit of flexibility on the lens and one of the few "pro" cameras with an auto lazy git option.
Panasonic needs to bring back the GM series. Worst case, S9 body for MFT compact...at least we have tiny MFT lenses for it and perhaps smaller sensor means more room for a mech shutter and maybe tiny GM5 style EVF ? OM is rumoured to release something this fall...are they gonna answer the call? I tried the S9 and unfortunately, nope it's not it. It needs more fun in it like live view composite or multiple exposure or 4K photo or focus stacking or slow motion...it has LUTS but at this point, any photo from any device can be edited in Lumix lab so kinda moot.
I have a lumix g5 that is always in my rucsac if my trusty G9 had problem, however, I have one of "Mr Graham Houghton's" favourites, in excellent condition that I have had for 8 years, the Lumix FZ200, good enough.
So true, these cameras are far more realistic to walk around or take on holiday! If l had an expensive Fuji or whatever l would be worried about damaging it,get one of these and spend more time making photos!
It is just as you mention, it took me years to realize this. I recently picked a 16mp Lumix and carry it with me everywhere. My high end Sony stays home and I only take it for serious and planned photo shoots.
What's your fave tiny camera? Check out some related videos in the description next!
And, of course, it has a pop-up flash. 📸
I picked the g100 up for a song. I already have lots mft lenses (long time g95 user) but the 20mm f1.7 is a perfect match. Also, it's just plain FUN to use!
Olympus PEN F. I love this Camera.
this video is the most well-articulated "the best camera is the one you have with you" I've ever seen
Speaking of the camera you always have with you, doesn’t any 2024 phone with good camera specs at least match these?
@@ferdinandbardamu3945 strangely, it doesn't work with a phone, at least for me. My small camera pics are always more interesting.
I started learning about mindfullness and photography around the same time. They go perfectly together.
Me too!
So many good points Emily. It’s not always about the gear. We actually need to use it …. with reckless abandon! My current favourite tiny camera is the G100.
I need to take my g100 for another photo session soon, I haven't used it nearly enough recently!
I agree. I love my G100 original. Anything smaller, I have my smartphone.
Ahhh My two favorite English Photographer/TH-camrs
Emily and George, best quotes and tips you get from them 🥰
My every day is the GX85 (Gx80) IBIS and view finder included with a flip screen.
Its a little bit thicker than the lumix body but i have ibis too!
of all the tiny cameras that you've used which one would you say is the best for video?
I needed this video today. I find videos on EDC cameras always inspiring
@MicroFourNerds, I've been into photography all my life, and to this day, I still think the best photo's i've ever taken were with my phone.
But, thanks to you I bought my first dedicated camera, the GF7, mainly due to two reasons.
1: Interchangable lenses
2: Natural background blurr
And now I'm totally hooked and spending more money than i should (thank you for that as well i guess xD )
EDC my GX85 with either the 20mm or 12-32. Such a handy and powerful tool.
Thank you, I totally agree. That's why besides my OM-5 & lenses, I just decided to buy the Though TG-7, just to have it with me everyday 😁
I couldn't agree more with the idea that photography engages us with the everyday: fantastic and it is photography's gift x Great vid, thanks x
I like so much your videos. I am a micro4/3 user. Olympus OMD 5 III in this case. . Great chanel!
I’m glad to have listened to the end ❤
Olympus Pen E-PL8? Solid Build! Nice!
Also consider the Olympus E-PL series. The E-PL8 was the last in the line that will take and external EVF. 3-axis IBIS, solid metal construction and still cheaper than the Lumix GX/GM series.
Excellent video! Really rounding off the best of the best that Panasonic hasn’t made in a bit! Thank you!
Just stumbled upon your channel as i’m considering getting a 4/3 camera for every day carry. Appreciate your advice!
All of this is because of you! hahaha
I think my favorite has been the GM1.
Olympus EP-2. Great features, spec, and durability
Nice video, I agree with you fully. Sadly, none of these cameras are usually available.
I agree, but do you have a video addressing the usual smartphone comparison? Why add another camera to your pocket?
Scripting as we speak 😊
@@MicroFourNerds Amazing 🤩 I think a “real camera” is easier for learning photography fundamentals, even if it’s a cheaper model.
@@MicroFourNerdsthe other thing apart from a smartphone that’s easy to carry and weather sealed to boot is a GoPro. How do we as Team Emily feel about a Hero 12 as an every day carry?
That was an outstanding discussion. Thanks.
My leica Q2 has been my edc. Pre-ordered the Q3. Can not wait.
I had no idea these produced such good results! thanks for widening my horizons
I agree! I cary my tiny olympus E-PM1 than may more capable Lumix GX8 and Olympus EM5ii
I AGREE WITH YOU %100...the small M43 bodies (particularly the small panasonic bodies) are Fun...usefull..and easy to hide in the pocket. Cheers
Great video, keep up the good work.
All of this Emily!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Enjoyed…I actually think you could have added the g100 here as well. It would be on the larger end, but still small (smaller I believe than the gx9) albeit a different style…but newer features and used quite inexpensive.
Excellent video, legend!
Inspiration fuel for sure!
Inspiring, I might have to look for an everyday 4/3. Thanks.
I enjoyed this video - many thanks
Oooh, me home town. Nice! I love my cheap carries: A Ricoh GRDIII, all the Pentax Q series, a Pentax MX-1, a Mk I Sony RX-100, and most recently an Olympus E-PM2. None of them cost me over 20,000 yen (about $150) on Amazon Japan, and some, like the Ricoh cost me less than fifty quid.
Great video. Love your thoughts on photography

I’m hoping for a GX replacement in the S9 body. PDAF and a microphone jac.

I have a lumix g5 that is always in my rucsac if my trusty G9 had problem, however, I have one of "Mr Graham Houghton's" favourites, in excellent condition that I have had for 8 years, the Lumix FZ200, good enough.
Loved your "rant" - great fun!
🙋🏼♂️ popping up like a flash
I'm going to add you to my pop-up flash montage 🤣
@@MicroFourNerdsomg yes!! 😅
I enjoyed this video. Thanks for this. Did you use the DJI Pocket 2 in your walking talking head? Cheers!
I used the Pocket 3. So handy!
At the minimum, i have a Fujifilm Finepix AX655 in my daily bag between ems agencies. A CoolPix P7000 and Lumix GF3 are my other two.
i own a gf5 but the gh7 is my edc, although i might switch it up with the gh4 once in a while
So true, these cameras are far more realistic to walk around or take on holiday!
